he started to proceed down to his house. they accosted him at the corner. they grabbed him and there was a fight and i gather that one guy stepped back and fired a shot they hit him but they didn't seriously wound him. >> reporter: the victim, william brock man may spent his days waging legal battles on behalf of the state and on this flight he wasn't willing to go down without a fight. >> he is a young guy. he is in shape. he probably didn't realize they had a gun at the time. he took them on. he even had a broken arm taking them on. >> reporter: what happened next is no laughing matter for police. brock man bleeding from a gun shot wound tried to chase down the criminals on foot, sprinting on their heels for several blocks, before they finally split up and got away. >> he did yell. he did let out a loud yell and

then he did chase behind them, that was courage but we ask that you please not do that. >> reporter: police say several people called the police as brock man tried to chase down the men. officers and pirate ship made paramedics arrived with in a few minutes. if you saw anything that could help you are asked to call detectives with the southern district abc 2news. >> friends, family, classmates and strangers are spend thoughts to christian mullet since the thought she was shot by her ex-boyfriend. just weeks ago the ex-boyfriend showed up at her off campus place, shot her and her friend who died. police say that he turned the gun on himself. she survive but has spent weeks

recovering. this week she took to facebook to share some of what she had been going through and to give thanks for all the support she has received. the post reads i'm finally out of shock trauma and onto rehab. i have never been so amazed at the amount of help the community has come together to give myself and to my family. she talks about a her friend saying everybody needs to know how you saved my life that day. if you had not been there to protect me i know i would not be here to tell our story. as for her ex-boyfriend, she said you were never a bad person, just one who lost their way and couldn't get it back. i hope you have found a better place where you can find peace. >> police and fire crews in baltimore still trying to figure out what caused a parked truck to explode just hours ago on northern parkway. officials say that four homes were evacuated and those homeowners dealing repairs right now. the blast from the truck was so

strong that it blew them out. crews and police, arson, hazmat were called out to investigate. >> as the units arrived on the scene they came on this pickup truck that had the explosion that took place. the driver of the truck was out of the truck at the time. the members did arrive on the scene. >> start my truck. as in doing so, that's the result of it. other than that -- i don't know to much. >> the driver did have minor injuries but refused treatment. the fire department set up a safe zone keeping families out of the homes, act four of them out after the explosion. they are all back home tonight. investigators are still trying to find out what caused the truck to explode >> home should be a lot easier for drivers who got stuck behind a ten car crash this morning on southbound 83 at york road. the crash involved a tractor trailer that overturned and nine other cars. nobody was seriously hurt

to normal today. >> for thousands of employees today was the first day back since monday's shooting, only building 197 where it happened remains shut down. tonight we are learning more about the chilling encounter that a alabama family said they had with the shooter last month. linda boyd said that she was with her family at the norfolk airport when her family had a confrontation with alexis. she realized now that they were right to be afraid. >> he looked like he was troubled, like something was wrong. like you could tell his behavior or something wasn't right with him mentally. >> imagine that. watching on tv and making that connection alexis wrote the words better off this way and my elf weapon his gun. >> caught on camera a shooting triggered the police chase,

crash and s.w.a.t standoff in two counties, look at that video. two women were killed. the suspect then led police on a high speed chase. the suspect hit another car. there was an hourlong standoff. it ended with the suspect dead of a gun shot wound. it's unclear who shot him. >> telephone key pad a crash left a camper on the edge of an overpass. this happened on a new jersey lieway. state police shut down the road to get it up right again and fortunately nobody was hurt. >> now, on abc2, maryland's most accurate forecast. >> beautiful day. we will give it a ten today. it was beautiful. take a look. lot of blue sky. belaire, 75 degrees. warmest, that's for the entire week today and it'll get warmer tomorrow. dew points are coming up -- around 55 so feels like around 77. bay water temperature down to 75, sunset now at 7:08.

by next week prior to 7:00 we are talking about a sunset. that's depressing. 8:00 temperature around 68. we are falling to 61 at 11. we will be in to the 50s again for tonight and then eventually 74 at lunchtime should bring us into the 80s by tomorrow. so we maxed out this afternoon at 77 degrees, we should be at 77 so we are right at average and the record back in 1983 hit 94 degrees. headlines comfortably cool we will call it tonight. we will be into the 50s, hands down the best day is tomorrow. 80 degrees. low humidity. it'll be beautiful and unfortunately mom, nature is not going to play nice by the weekend. we are talking more showers and will talk more about that in a second. it's 76 in the city. low 70s to the north and west. annapolis at 71. the wind off the bay right now and dew points, they are starting to climb. it'll get a little stickier by tomorrow. have you noticed the dew point trend right now in that

comfortable threshold. by tomorrow afternoon dew points will spike to around 75. that's that puppy feel that will come in as we go into tomorrow afternoon. for the time being clear skies right now. it's dry, comfortable. not a drop on the radar from the eastside to the westside of the state. high pressure still in control. back out to the south and west. there is heat, humidity and storms and this will be a problem as we go into the day on saturday. so 75 in the city right now. 77 out toward morgantown. on to the south. 80s and 91 right now in st. louis. not going to get that hot here but we will see a piece of this warmth in our direction. for tonight 50s. to the north and west low 50s. lots of sun. pushing 80 and as we get into your day on saturday the clouds will inland s will increase. when does the rain move in and we think around 11:00 in the morning north and west of the city. by the afternoon steadier showers around the 3:00 hour

. breaking news we brought you at top of the show. >> a retired baltimore county fire captain has been charged with sexual offenses against a minor. >> we know him as bird man. he was arrested yesterday after allegations were made last month and what we know so far is that the victim was in their early teens when the alleged

abuse happened but it wasn't until late last month when it was reported to police. he retired from the fire department in 2008 but he was -- we know him as baltimore's bird man. he is currently out on $750,000 bond. >> taking a look at other stories making the news tonight. a lawyer with the attorney general shot during an armed robbery the william brock hit by a pitch is already back -- brockman is already back at home. he chased after the criminals but they got away. anyone with information is asked to call the police >> did you feel this afternoon? around the corner. a truck exploded on northern parkway blowing out windows in nearby homes. a vapor explosion was set off by an open can of freon left inside the truck. four homes were evacuated but the people who live there are back home right now. the driver of the truck refused
