wrong with this is. >> the bakers have pulled the daughter out of school and they have filed complaints with the department of education human rights commission and the office of civil rights. it's move that many students in one california school district are happy about. some parents are not too excited about it. some schools are cutting back on the amount of homework that students are taking home. and they are going to be adding more reading homework and cutting back on the bessy work. however -- busy work. however little or no homework raised eyebrows with some parents saying there's zero accountability because the students don't have anything to turn into their teachers and without a hard copy, it makes it harder to know how students are doing. >> i think there are more focused on family time. the teacher is sending home a type of homework it's more based on the parent being more involved. i think which is better and it's reading every night and it's up to us to do it and be parents and look at our kids work every day and go through it and take responsibility for

we are following breaking news this morning a two alarm fire in east bolt mo on -- baltimore on east fayette

avenue and rosy leftwich is there with details. >> reporter: the fire broke out after 4 at 1306 east lafayette avenue. fire crews are on the scene. it's right just about a block or two shy of north avenue where this happened. once again it broke out around 4 a.m. people were in the house but they did manage to get out. it was put up to two alarms because as you can see the nature of the houses are connected so they wanted to make sure that fire didn't spread from one house to the other. again the fire broke out just after 4 a.m. people inside the house did manage to get out. fire crews right now are making sure that there are no hot spots as they continue to try to make sure everything is under control. after this the investigation will begin to determine what touched off the fire here in the 1300 block of east lafayette. reporting live from east lafayette. >> the red cross wants you to know most home fires can be prevented so this is what they are doing.

today volunteers with the american red cross will join members of the baltimore city fire department to help spread safety information. they will be at pimlico neighborhood giving information how to install smoke detectors and talk about how to cope with the effects of the home fire including the loss of a loved one. the group will be on the streets between 9:30 and 11 this morning and then they will do it again from 1 in the afternoon until 3. at the naval academy they will try to figure out if a string of fires were intentionally set. there have been 7 small fires at the school in the last two weeks. they were in trash cans in five buildings one in a dorm and the others a academic buildings. naval academy officials increased security patrols in the buildings. we will keep you posted on what they find today. fire officials say the four- year-old playing with a lighter started a fire in a house on sea pine circle in severn. it started in a upstairs bedroom a home sprerchgler in the house alerted the -- spnkler in the house went off

and helped for fighters put out the flames before they got -- firefighters put out the flames before they got there. investigators say it should be a lesson to anyone about matches lighters and children. >> lighters and matches in the hands of children can be extremely dangerous. children typically don't understand the impact and growth a fire can have and the speed which it can grow and quickly can become injured or injure other people in the home. >> five people that live in the house have been relocated so repairs can be done before they go back. 44 firefighters from baltimore county who died over the past year will be honored this weekend. so there's going to be a ceremony held on sunday at towson united methodist church. the annual memorial service honors career and volunteered firefighters and emergency medical personnel and ladies auxiliary members and other fire service members who passed away. kevin kamenetz laid a wreath to honor the fallen firefighters. today they will take time

right now in westminster. this is what looks like on the satellite and radar. in the mid upper levels of the atmosphere not a lot going on and in western maryland we are dealing with a few more clouds but we will get plenty of sunshine continuing through the day. speaking of the clouds we have a few clouds at the ground. so that translates into patchy fog this morning. so as you head out and about, heading north heading off toward the west, yes be prepared for that. and speaking of heading west, if you are heading far back to the west across the midwest you will run into showers and thunderstorms across the area this morning. and we are dealing with rain in west virginia this morning as well. diving down into the carolinas. but at the surface we still have high pressure in control of our weather. so as we work through the day, we will start to warm the temperatures up as we are getting that onshore flow. now, on the move, yes, we do have a cold front and this is the one that is going to be bringing us plenty of rain as we work our way into the first half of the weekend.

moving along on the inner loop and outer loop. normal drive time 11 minutes from 795 down to 59. and i am again on -- 95. and i am on twitter causing the tractor trailer fire in prince george's county. that's your timesaver traffic. we are following breaking news this morning. a two alarm fire in east baltimore is on east fayette avenue near harford and roosevelt leftwich is there live with the latest details. what can you tell us? >> reporter: look hobbed me and -- you can look honed me and it's -- behind me and it's somewhat of a active scene it happened in the 1300 block of east laugh yet 1306 eastlafayette avenue. it broke out out 4:20 and people inside the house according to neighbors reports, it was two i mean two children and an elderly man were inside the house at the time when the fire broke out. they managed to get out of the house okay. fire department -- the fire department has been out here since that time making sure

that there's no hot spots left in the fire. they pulled two alarms because they wanted to make sure once again that everybody was out of the house and that way they brought in more manpower so they could make an extensive search. when they got to the scene fire was pouring out of the second floor window. and they were-- they had to knock that down pretty quickly but they wanted to make sure everyone was out of the house and they know everybody is out of the house the three people inside the house an elderly man and two children were out of the house. they are making sure too once again the fire is out. and they are checking to see if there were any what touched off the fire in the wee hours of the morning. reporting live from east baltimore roosevelt leftwich. 13 people shot a 3-year-old boy hit in the face. what happened in chicago late last night. this morning police are trying to figure that out after a gunman opened fire in a park. three people including that child are in critical conditio
