tonight we're taking your calls on wounds that just won't heal. there could be a variety of reasons. the doctor with the university of maryland medical center. doctor, talk about diabetes and why that can make if more difficult for the wounds to heal. >> diabetes affects you in multiple different ways. one it can affect your blood flow at the macro level. what i mean by that, we have blood vessels that we have given names to that we can tom and i as a vascular surgeon can do something about. it also impairs blood flow at

the very smallest tiniest blood vessels that are microscopic, called capillaries. when those get diseased, you don't get enough blood flow. whats did the blood flow do, it brings in oxygen. it heals, but if the blood flow can't get there, it won't heal. diabetics get neuropathy. basically diabetics have trouble feeling their feet. what we do, because we can feel if we have uncomfortable feeling we shift offer weight but dpeeb ticks don't know that -- diabetics don't know that and will have a breakdown in the skin. >> you have this wound two, three, four years, can you assume i won't heal are be treated? >> not at all. it's the matter of getting the right treatment. the same thing i've been saying

but abc junior justice correspondent shows us what it reveals behind the mind of a mass shooter. >> reporter: this is alexis armed with a sawed off shotgun hunting innocent victims. it started as a routine monday at the navy yard. alexis shows his pass and is waved in by a security guard, just before 8 am. surveillance cameras capture him driving into a parking garage and moments later walking in through the front door of building 197. he's been hired as a civilian contractor working on the building's computer network. there is no metal detector or bag check. we next see him armed with a shotgun, peeking behind doors, look be for someone, anyone to ambush. he moves quickly down the stairs with purpose, eager. look, he sees some people and ducks behind a wall. today the first official explanation of why. >> it was a mentally unable individual. >> reporter: this shotgun is the primary murder weapon. on it he etched a number of
