it's so important that i spend as much table as i can with them. >> reporter: now a group has put together a time for them to spend together at a place she has always wanted to visit, the grand canyon. >> i think just being out there, being in god's nature, just being surrounded by all that beauty will just take my mind off always having to battle cancer. >> reporter: watching the news this week she heard the government shut down has closed all national parks, the flight and hotel are already booked for next week so they are going, they just hope they will have something amazing to see when they arrive. >> i know some say may the grand canyon will always be there. with the type of cancer i'm battling, there is no guarantee that i will always be there. >> reporter: it appears you can still see portions of the grand canyon but with the park closed many of the best points are as

to. tracking down the person they believe filmed it, taking the unedited version. while it appears now that the confrontation started when the driver of the suv hit a motorcyclist who was stopped short in front of him the attorney representing that biker, the only person charged in this case so far said there is much more to the story. >> the video doesn't show everything that happened before. >> reporter: police believe that the driver of the suv shown in this facebook photograph acted out of fear. proven they say by the four calls to 911 his wife made in the span of just eight minutes asking for help as they along with their 2-year-old daughter found themselves with their tires slashed, surrounded by a group of bikers. the wife released a statement that reads, we were facing with a life threatening situation. my husband was forced under the circumstances to take the actions that he did in order to protect the lives of our family. some feel those actions which

we look north toward cecil. 82 now. sunset at 6:46ful the days keep getting shorter. if you are headed out toward the bay your tomorrow it'll be haze again. warm at 84, bay water temperature of 71 at thomas point. light wind expected out southwest tomorrow. maybe just a little higher than that. you can see low 80s the story right now. just about statewide. some 70s. humidity has been high and will crank up into the upper 60s for dew points, it'll feel summer like. about 65 you will start to notice the humidity. that's where we are by friday evening. you look fine to head out on the town. dress light. temperatures will be warm after a morning in the 60s. we bump up into the mid80s. warm and humid and a slow cool off tomorrow. that extra humidity, always working to keep the temperatures from falling off to sharply in the evening.

you notice the difference like dry, crisp air. not going to have that the next couple of days, right now closest rain into ohio and south into the tennessee valley. this action generally sets the stage to the west and north. still that frontal boundary draped north of here. this will be the focus for some showers in to the day tomorrow. most indications are that it'll stay north of maryland and then into pennsylvania in terms of showers along that frontal boundary. high pressure will keep dominating. it'll keep republicanning in warm -- wrapping in warm southerly boundaries. some rain shower activity but i think most of that staying north of maryland. then it gets more interesting into saturday. saturday looks quiet for you. maybe isolated shower just north of maryland. you see the front starting to slope in the central part of the midwest. this is one weather player as we go toward the tail end of the weekend but it's far from the only one.

that front will interact with a lot of moisture from karen. now a named storm. storm is cycling right now but there are indications it'll spin up to a brief category one before making landfall around pensacola florida. then you see the fans monday afternoon, edging into southern maryland. that's going to be just a tropical low at that point but it could provide quite a bit of rain around here into early next week weekend looks good. we barely get it in and looks like definite rain. 60s tonight. mix of clouds and maybe a little low fog in spots. tomorrow 86. at the city but i think the outlying areas in the low to mid80s and the next couple of days low to mid80s the story here. warmest day will probably happen saturday then we go beyond it into early next week. that's where we get the rain from what will be left of karen

fire marshall today after we found locks on several exit doors in one school. >> take the highest paid people in baltimore are all the big names in nope. many are every day police officers making huge salaries because of overtime. investigators dig in to the numbers. yesterday our investigator found a city school using bolts and padlocks. . >> now this isn't the first time that school that been cited for the same concerns >> reporter: bolts on exit doors, padlocks through the bolts, students at mariti say that was just a reality inside that school for every door but the main entrance, a giant fire hazard even parents didn't know

about. >> if it's a fire, they wouldn't be able to get out. many. >> reporter: did you know? >> if you knew what would you have done? >> i would have called the school and complained and went to the school board and asked them to take them off. >> reporter: today it wasn't the school board taking the bolts off, it was by direct order of the fire marshall. after we found the padlocked doors the fire department made it clear to the principal that these locks preventing the use of these doors is a critical breach of any fire safety code anywhere. period. >> make sure that the doors are not padlocked. also, other aspects of the fire code comply. >> reporter: we saw them removing the bolts. the dead bolts the door. was that something you asked them to do? >> yes. >> reporter: meanwhile baltimore city public schools has declined a request for an

interview. two days in a row it can't claim to be i go rant. records show that locking exit doors at that school has been a problem in the past. we obtained these records detailing past inspections. in february of 2011 they were cited, writing all exit doors must remain unlocked when any students are in the building. back then it required immediate compliance or face legal action but now more than two and a half years later they were using bolts and padlocks doors >> does it concern you it was still happening? >> yeah. that is a concern i ordered my inspectors to go to 12 random schools schools

to inspect . >> reporter: including this morning and having staff cut bolts off exit doors. in baltimore. abc 2news. >> now again, we asked the folks on north avenue to answer the questions we have and you are sure to ask them about these locks, we got in response. you can bet we will keep asking. you can follow all of the investigations on brian's twitter account >> update now on the breaking breaking, the nation's capitol on lockdown after gun fire outside. tonight we know how it started when a woman tried to ram her car through the white house barricade. she then led police on a chase. tonight reports she was shot and killed by police. a police officer was also injured but they are not life threatening. just moments before the shooting, a congressman said he was on the hill heading to his office.

>> i didn't hear thing. i was there two minutes before the shots were fired. when i got into my office building suddenly people said go to your office, it's a lockdown. they are shooting. so i did that. we were -- we went through procedures and our staff are trained what to do in situations like this. what they tell you to do is turn off the lights, lock all the doors and listen to communication from the capitol police. >> reporter: the congressman's staff said they were on lockdown for about a half hour. >> we are learning more about what happened at the capitol there will be more on world news at 6:30. always complete coverage on your home page now that the navy air force game is a go that doesn't mean the naval academy is clear from the shut down. 60% of its teachers and civilians and all of them are furloughed. the academy made plans last week in case
