afternoon. the victim has been identified as 24-year-old glend lin johnson. she was shot in the chest. she was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. as we get more information, we will bring it along to you. police want to know if you have seen this woman, take a look. she is accused of hitting someone with her car in the parking lot on fort smallwood road in pasadena on friday and taking off. >> i can't believe someone would do that and then leave without trying to take care of their actions. consequences. that is frightening. >> a hit-and-run. it has jail time. you can do a lot of time for it. >> we are told that the victim is expected to be okay but anyone with information is asked to call metro crimestoppers. here is the number 1-866-7- lockup. at the live desk this morning, on a cell phone, driving close to 100 miles an hour. that is what witnesses told

police before a crash in california killed five people. this is a developing story out of lodai. five people died in a five car crash including a pregnant woman an unborn child. we don't know the numbers of all of those injured but we're told several including children were taken to hospitals to receive emergency care. witnesses standing by at a nearby middle school there reported seeing a man in an suv, speeding through an intersection, while on the cell phone, it is believed that car started a chain reaction, and many are calling it the worst accident like this in lodai's history. and police are investigating whether the cell phone distractions and alcohol and dprugs were a factor in the crash and and the identity of those injured and killed have not been released just yet. we are hearing information about 18-year-old brandon sh reeve, and he and two other teenagers are accused of stealing 70 boxes of ammunition from law enforcement. from ann arundel county. now, police say that they stole it from a shed in hanover, belonging to a federal air marshal program.

we are told that it was put there after a training exercise. the transportation security administration is looking into how the ammunition was stored and if any procedures were violated. this is the life blood for the port of baltimore but making the way for the panama canal traffic, it may create bigger problem force a southwest baltimore community. if csx gets its way it will have many tractor ailers coming through the old claremont rail yard and double stacked trains would be sent through the country. some people living near the proposed 70-acre site are not too happy about it. >> we have been informed that our properties will go down in value. there was nothing said to how we would even be compensated by the city or anyone. just that we will lose in the end. and the noise levels are going to go up. and 300 and some trucks a day will come through here.

in june. and he faces 8 1/2 years in prison. he is expected to speak at the hearing. and this video, it is pretty scary. a man in colorado. you can see right here. he is dangling from a highway by a balloon. and apparently he is doing it on purpose. it is an exercise product and onlookers had no idea and they thought he was about to fall and they called 911. also this morning, we all know sometimes things don't go as well as planned but these two buildings, it was in springfield illinois, this woman on the right came down and the woman on the left didn't. we don't know what is going on now. they don't know how it happened. but they are still working on it. something very few people have ever seen. we saw a rare fish last year caught on the shores of

california. the marine biologists are dissecting the serpent like creature to learn more about the species. >> it is just so cool. i feel very privileged to even just observe a fish like this. >> it is pretty cool. i mean this is a pretty cool animal. once in a lifetime opportunity to see a fish like this. >> and that's why they do what they do. biologists say the ore fish was pregnant and some of the eggs were thousands of feet below the ocean's surface and rarely seen. let's talk about what is going on right now with the satlight and radar. pretty active. we are looking at rain across the area. we can see one batch right now. then we see some more back off towards the west and mixing with some snow across indiana and also ohio this morning. and the snow is not going to make it toward our area. but we do have the rain. and the reason why, well, we do have this area of low pressure, so a little disturbance riding along this cold front that barreled through the area

yesterday, and behind the cold front, yes, we are much chillier. we have the cold air moving in. and behind that, high pressure will begin to work its way in here as well. so after we get rid of the heavier rain this morning, the steadier rain, we still have the potential for maybe a few showers to work their way in here toward the afternoon. we will get mostly cloudy skies. and that means that some of you might get tblimses of sunlight. but we -- glimpses of sunlight. but we will have more clouds around than the sun all day long. high pressure works its way in here toward thursday and friday. and here is what the temperatures are this morning. and already feeling the chill in the air. and it is 41 degrees in emmittsburg. and northville is at 44 degrees. and we're at 48 north east. and saint vincent, coming in at 47, and more of the same in denton. and chesapeake beach at 48 degrees. these temperatures won't budge much at all today. the tropics, we are still watching lorenzo right now and not really doing anything and weaken as the day goes on. the winds sustained at 50 miles an hour now. and moving east at 7 miles an

hour. and staying away from us. and abc 2's most accurate future trend picking up on the rain but then moving out of here throughout the day. and the planner looks pretty good. as we start to see changes in the forecast, coming in the seven-day forecast. but make sure you do download our app and all you have to do is go to abc 2 news .com. let's get a check of of the traffic now with lauren. >> well, if you are traveling in baltimore county, this morning, you are going to like what i have to say. you're taking a live look right now at repairs that are under way to fix that water main break on joppa road. jopa road has actually reopened. one lane of traffic is getting by in both directions. right between seven courts drive and bel air road. for the latest on this whole project, you can always follow me on twitter at maryland traffic. as we take a look at the main lines, this is good news, it is going to continue. the jfx, 54 miles an hour, southbound at northern parkway. and here is what 95 looks like. in the white marsh area. 65 miles an hour. at southbound of the beltway. you won't have any problems headed to the fort mchenry tunnel.

695 in great shape. it will be a calm commute from parkville, all the way up to towson. and as we head over to pikesville, this is where the beltway looks like at green spring avenue. no problems from 795, all the way down to 95. and that stretch will take you just a mormle 11 minutes. and -- normal 11 minutes to howard county and this is what interstate 70 looks like at columbia pike. nothing to get in your way. not much traffic as you make your push to the beltway. that is your time saver traffic. it turns out the flu vaccine may offer more protection than originally thought. a new study finds people who get a flu shot may decrease their risk of major cardiovascular events like a heart attack. in people who have had a recent cardiac event, the difference is not that significance. the cdc recommends everyone older than 6 months old to get the flu vaccine. all right, next week, your little trick-or-treaters will be going door to door in an all out candy grab. to make sure all of the candy isive is a, they're offering up -- safe, they're offering up x- ray machines. and halloween night, the 31st,

new details this morning about the boston marathon bombing suspect who was shot by police. authorities say that tamerlan tsarnaev was named as a participant in a triple homicide in 2011. the victim was found in an apartment with her neck cut. one of them was a friend of tsarnaev. and the informant was shot to death while being questioned by police. and the case went nowhere. new questions about the nevada school shooter, 12 years old. police are not releasing his name is protect his family but the boy area parents could face charges. police are trying to find out how the 7th grader obtained a nine millimeter is semi automatic handgun. district police say the boy brought the weapon to the sparks middle school monday morning and the teacher who

tried to stop the shooter was shot in the chest and killed. police have released the first 911 call moments after the shooting. >> a candlelight vigil in planned in front of the middle school to hopper the shooting victims -- to honor the shooting victims. in sports, 91-0, something has to lose but the score of a texas high school football game and one parent says the game got out of control and is now saying bullying is the result and the official complaint has been filed saying the coach should have done more to prevent the lopsided score. >> there was nothing unfair about it other than the fact that our players were better than their players. >> and an official investigation is now under way, and the two coaches expressed a

off a little bit more. but still chance for some showers by this afternoon. and this evening. we will start to get clearing skies. the temperatures are really going to drop off. but right now, we are still on the chilly side. the cold front has moved through. and we're dealing with temperatures in the 40s. and 53 in the city right now. and 35 in cockeysville. so really chilly. the planner looks like this for today. by 10:00, we will have the showers. and the temperature at 49 degrees. and by lunchtime, still quite chilly and 53 degrees will be that high for today and here is a check of of the seven-day forecast. for u, and not improving as we head toward the end of of the week. just drier but still quite cold outside. then we will start to trend milder as we head towards next week. let's get a check of the traffic with lauren. >> if you are heading to baltimore county this morning, an update on the water main break, from yesterday morning, in the perry hall area. east joppa road has reopened, seven court drive and route one. and one lane is getting by, in both directions. and repairs are under way this morning, and no word yet though on when everything will be

fixed. if you are heading off to hunt valley, 83, and nice and clear, and nothing to get in your way from swan road all the way to downtown baltimore and the jfx going to be in great shape, and here is what the beltway looks like in parkville at hazard road and inner loop will be clear down to 95. and the white marsh area. look at the outer loop drive times. 11 minutes from 95 up to 83. and over on the west side, you're looking at an 11 minute ride as well from 795 all the way down to 95. and no problems right now, on 95, in howard county, and just a normal 6 minute trip. route 100 up to the beltway. that is your time saver traffic. good morning. topping america's money, a boost for your 401k, the tepid september jobs report reassured investors feeling fresh gain, and the s&p 500 hit a new high while the nasdaq composite hit a 13 year high. the irs announced it will delay the beginning of tax filing season up to two weeks because of the government shutdown and it affects early filers and many rushed the returns to the

guys. and also rainy out there this morning. and we can see that on maryland's most powerful radar as of now and it is beginning to push into baltimore, it is staying mainly to the south of baltimore but now the light rain showers around that area. and i will take a picture of that in just a second and show you what is going on, as we do the radar, starting out, we are definitely seeing the heavier rain coming down at this point. and at cherry point, that's one of the places and around oakland, and spy glass, and shady side, so around verly beach this morning. and castle acres and huckleberry woods, and some moderate rain. now, we slide off toward the north and east. and this is what is going on around hayden. still in the yellow. so this is where we're talking about the moderate rain around dean's meadow and also around star, and we can see it around buckle's corner this morning, and bridge town and also around diggens road, and cedar lane and duke's road as well. as you head out and about this morning, you know what you need to do to keep yourself on the dry side. as we go into the afternoon, still a few showers, possible in the forecast, but we will

and the west side of the beltway, a live look at baltimore national pike, the inner loop in great shape and the outer loop also going be delay free. drive time of 11 minutes from 795 all the way down to 95. and 95 here in howard county, nothing to get in your way. north of 195, it will be clear, heading down to dc and northbound travel up to baltimore, just a 6 minute trip from route 100 up to the beltway. that is your time saver traffic. any time you hear about a registered sex offender in your community gone off the police radar, it is a concern. and a missing sex offender wasn't gone for too long but that wasn't until police put out to the media. 37-year-old arthur spicer could not be found at his home in columbia. after multiple checks spicer made the news and found at a friend's home in laurel. and he was convicted of a sex offense 16 years ago in michigan. >> this is a time of the year that concerns us. particularly because we're approaching halloween. and while every sex offender is not necessarily a child sex

offender, we want to do everything we can to keep our kids safe. >> arthur spicer was arrested for not complying with the requirements of updating police of a new address and for failure to pay child support. a man police describe as a violent sex offender is behind bars this morning. and he is scheduled to appear in a seattle courtroom today. michael staley is expected of sexually assaulting a 16-year- old boy, just days after arriving in washington state. he was released from jail in canada, in april of 2011, after completing a sentence for assault, and forcible confinement. he left the country after cutting off his electronic monitoring bracelet. at the live desk for you this morning, what quickly turned into a rollout fiasco, the affordable care act has the obama administration in damage control mode and a number of lawmakers are calling for the job of the health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius. and top republicans including congressman paul ryan have called on sebelius to resign. he is saying it was her job to get this thing off the ground

three weeks ago and they had years to get ready and also launched a petition web site funded by the rmc calling on the president to rehov her from office two day -- remove her from office two days ago. the white house says they are behind the hhs secretary and sebelius says contractors have been asked to bring in top engineers to fix the web site. >> the director didn't do such a great job so far. why didn't they bring in the a- team in the first place? >> and why now are you saying three weeks into it, bring the a-team into the equation. >> we were hoping they had the a-team on the table but i am talking to the ceos and urging them to make sure that we have the talent that they have available. >> okay, many say the web site is very cumbersome and difficult to navigate but sebelius, and the president, have both stressed the benefits of the affordable care act saying the problems are not related to construct, it is related to volume, because they insist so many people want to enroll. we have positive news about

our city this morning. new jobs are coming. and we're talking about good well-paying jobs. amazon .com is opening a distribution center on the city's southeast side and that's where roosevelt leftwich this morning. what kind of jobs are we talking about and how many people? >> ey're talking shipping and distribution jobs and amazon picked the site for the same reason that general motors built vans and cars for so many years. they like the location. and there are worst kept secrets here in the state, a spokesman for amazon says they're hoping to expand the coverage of the east coastisticly in the washington, d.c. corridor and and it is located off interstate 95 with easy access to the port and several other major highways. this would allow amazon to create same day service. itis a win-win for baltimore. the facility would bring in more than 1,000 jobs in the city. and amazon says its workers make 30% more at similar shipping distribution facilities around the country.

the only down side is once it is up and running, maryland residents have to pay 6% sales tax on all amazon purchases because amazon will no you have a physical presence in the state -- will now have a physical presence in the state. the construction on the site is expected to begin within a few months. with hopefully the facility being up and running fully sometime in 2014. reporting live, roosevelt leftwich, abc 2 news. coming up, it is the 5k for jk. state trooper jackie kline is recovering after being hit by a car during a traffic stop earlier this month. because of her love of running there is a 5k run to help raise money to pay for her hospital bills. it will be held in sykesville where she and other troopers trained. it will be held on november 10, starting at 10:00 in the morning. all right, well, he is known as board walk elvis. you have probably seen him if you have been in ocean city before. since the 1960s, you have seen norman peddling around ocean city. and he was hit by a car riding his bike over the weekend. he is okay but his bike is

incredible video for you on this wednesday morning. wildfires burning out of control in australia. and by the site of this, they still have a long way to go to get it under control. the weather is only making things worse because of the high temperatures and the wind. more than 200 homes have been wiped out as a result of this. and a number of people have been told to evacuate. two men had to be rescued after their boat hit a dam. and they say bad weather quickly moved in and they could not see. and this happened on the mississippi river in illinois. and the two men said that they were headed to the gulf of mexico. and that is when they ran into some trouble. a look at maryland's most powerful radar this morning because they are seeing the rain move in. you have doctor's appointments, and dentist appointments and plan accordingly and maybe you will be able to cancel them. and if you don't want to drive in the rain, because it is out here this morning and stick around. we are looking at heavier rain across the eastern shore now

this morning and this is going to be persistent. even around dc, if your travels are taking you that way as well. but around denton, we're dealing with that, so care line county, and some heavier rain across the area, and we can see it around scotttown, and mills and bennet point, and mill creek and even longwood. and this is the scenario this morning. a wet start as the kids head to the bus stop this morning and hopefully to drive them to the bus stop. or take them to school. that would be a better bet. and 46 degrees for a temperature. and 55 degrees will be the high temperature. so we are talking about chilly conditions. and all day long. and cold. as we head toward tomorrow. look at that temperature. or tonight rather, that temperature coming in at 35 degrees. temperature for tomorrow. staying chilly and stay chilly even through friday. but we will have more sunshine. let's get a check of traffic with lauren. >> well, we do have a problem in ann arundel county. there is a crash on route 100. right along the eastbound lanes at telegraph road. 97 though is nice and clear.

taking a live look at route 32. no delays headed up to the harbor tunnel throughway. and 70 nice and clear as well. here at columbia pike. a very calm commute this morning. for those of you making that push from ellicott city all the way over to the beltway. take a look at the latest drive times. on 695, green across the board. no delays on the west side. over on the east side of the beltway, just normal 11 minute trip to travel the outer loop from 95 up to 83. and there are no concerns on 95 in white marsh. 6 minutes it will take to travel from the freeway to the fort mchenry tunnel toll plaza. and east joppa road has reopened following yesterday's water main break. one lane getting by in both directions at seven course drive.

members of the united methodist church highest court are meeting in baltimore today to talk about the teachings of homosexuality in their churches. the judicial council is expected to decide if church ministries can advocate for the acceptance of homosexuality. and if ministers can officiate same-sex ceremonies we want to know what you think. should the united methodist church change its teachings on

and governor martin o'malley has a digital round table of education leaders talking about how to reach students in new and innovative ways. and they also want to talk about ways to prepare kids for the 21st century work force. >> well, some mixed news about college tuition cost, the bad news, all right, the costs are going up, that is the bad news. this is the good news, they're not increasing as high of a rate as they have in the past. the average cost for a four- year instate school is around $18,000 a year. and that's up 3%. and for an out of state four- year school, the average is around 31 grand, and that is also up right around 3%. if you have an opinion about dge's proposal to increase your rate, now is the time to have your voice heard. and the maryland public service commission is holding a series of hearings on the matter and today's hearing will start at 1:00 this afternoon at the psc office on saint paul street in baltimore. after today, people living in highlandtown will have to find another place to buy their groceries. the supermarket is closing its

southeast baltimore. as we find abc's roosevelt leftwich this morning and what kind of jobs are we talking about? >> reporter: we're talking about jobs that amazon says pace about 30% more than what standard jobs in the shipping and distribution agency will pay and amazon is hoping that delivering items around the east coast a faster process and negotiationsed on the site are the worst kept secret of the state. they're hoping to expand coverage of the east coast particularly in the washington, d.c. corridor. it is located off interstate 95 with easy access to the port and at the gm site and with easy access to highways. and it is a win-win for baltimore. the facility brings in more than 1,000 jobs to the cities. and amazon says its workers make 30% more than other worker at similar shipping and distribution facilities. the only down side is once it is up and running, maryland residents have to pay a 6% sales tax because amazon has a physical presence in the state.
