stephanie: now 6:00. it was just a drill -- but first responders prepared for a very serious scenario in goffstown today. superintendent: this is every superintendent' s worst nightmare. stephanie: the extra tool police used to help them evaluate their work today. this isn' t a typical sight in the queen city -- a moose on the run! the animal' s quick trip through the west side. hayley: cold enough tonight statewide that many of us will wake up to frost. how chilly the temperatures will be and your work week forecast coming up. stephanie: a new poll shows presidential candidate donald trump' s lead is shrinking in the republican field. which opponent is gaining on him.

>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 at 6:00. stephanie: good evening. i' m stephanie woods. three days after a man shot and killed nine people at a community college in oregon, authorities here in new hampshire are testing their own ability to handle a similar situation. the active shooter drill took place at goffstown high school. wmur' s kristen carosa was there and joins us now with our top story. kristen: this drill was scheduled before the shooting at . authorities here in new hampshire say something like if it does, they' ll be ready. >> there' s a shooter in the theater area. kristen: police responded to goffstown high school sunday for reports of an active shooter inside. thankfully this is just a drill. t ever want to have to make this kind of response, but the reality is at times you do. kristen: officers knew the initial shooter was in the auditorium, but when they got inside they found out there were two.

emily martuscello: we had the initial shooters inside that discharged some blank rounds which prompted teachers to put in place their protective action to put the school into lockdown. kristen: the drill comes three days after nine people were killed in oregon after a gunman opened fire at umpqua community college. brian balke, superintendent: unfortunately, we need to be prepared. we need to plan for these things. kristen: police quickly caught the shooters. then the focus shifted to taking care of injured people inside, which included a police officer who was shot in the leg. one by one, they were taken outside to ambulances. >> we had one fatality and a number of other people injured. yes, there were casualties. there were 10 people taken to the hospital. kristen: with officers guarding the halls, police then walked into all of the classrooms. people found inside were walked out and checked for weapons. once the school was clear, the drill was over. >> hopefully, they will never happen. but if they do, we have to have

our training to fall back on. we have to plan for that, and we have to allow our first responders to have enough practice and enough training so they feel comfortable responding to these critical incidents. kristen: as a reminder, this was a drill and noone was hurt. go-pro cameras were placed on walls and on many of the first responders so they can go back and review what happened. authorities will talk about what worked and what didn' t as they prepare for the next drill. reporting live, kristen carosa, wmur news 9. stephanie: thank you. pelham police seized multiple guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition from an apartment last night after a caller said his neighbor was claiming he shot four people. officers found mark schlagel in his apartment on nashua road sitting naked in a chair, yelling for police, and with a gun laying beside him. he told officers four people tried to break into his apartment and that he' d shot all of them, but police found no signs of a break-in. police say schlagel fired off numerous shots, but no one was hurt. he was arrested for reckless

manchester' s west side neighborhood had an unexpected visitor this morning. a moose was on the loose. one of the reporters caught it on camera. manchester. ve seen a moose in the woods. s a rare sight. he was last seen jumping over this car and running down that narrow alley. video. one of our crews recorded it just before 9:00 this morning. the moose was running down amory street in manchester' s west side he then cut across someone' s yard and continued running on rimmon street. seconds later, the moose leaps over a honda civic and disappears down the alley. manchester police say he was last spotted by officers along the powerlines, heading safely into the woods in goffstown. neighbors were stunned by the video. kent klardie: i just think it' s a once in a lifetime thing

governor lincoln chafee are in rochester right now. they are attending the strafford county democratic committee' s fall social. donald trump is still leading the field of republican presidential candidates in the latest poll of primary voters in new hampshire, but his lead is shrinking. the nbc news-wall street journal-marist poll shows trump with a five-point lead over carly fiorina in new hampshire. last month, the same poll had trump with a 16-point lead in new hampshire over his closest competitor -- --john kasich. this poll was conducted after the second republican debate and after rick perry and scott walker dropped out of the race. this crisp fall day will turn into a chilly night. a frost advisory is up for most of the state. meteorologist hayley lapoint shows us exactly where. hayley: it is going to be a cold night. today felt like an october day with temperatures only in the 50' s in a lot of spots. a couple of areas got close to 60. here is where we stand now. 55 implement.

55 implement. concord, 53. the great north woods only in the 20' s. 33 in concord. a lot of areas will see frost tonight, including areas in the southern part of the state. if you still have plans in the ground, you want to make sure you cover up your plants tonight or bring potted plants indoors. tomorrow morning. i will talk more about the warm-up ahead. stephanie: thank you. more on the chilly weather. for minor hypothermia at a regatta in lowell, massachusetts, today. high winds on the merrimack river sent water into at least two boats. first responders had to bring 12 people from the two boats onto shore. three people were taken to the hospital to be treated. the regatta was suspended.

people in south carolina are dealing with record flooding from a major rainstorm. in columbia, two major bridges had to be shut down. the state department of transportation says an employee was working along the flooded road this afternoon and is missing. one woman was killed when her vehicle was swept into floodwaters. this afternoon, the coast guard spotted lifejackets, containers, and an oil sheen in the area new bahamas where they are searching for a missing cargo ship. the ship lost contact last week. 33 people are on board. family members say four are from maine. those families are traveling to florida. this weekend, people got to go to the top of the observatory. you have not missed your chance to experience fall foliage from new heights. hayley: the foliage beautiful now. statewide, we are starting to

two-year contract extension -- stephanie: welcome back to news 9. a fire destroyed a home in madbury. several fire departments rushed to 54 nute road just after 4:00 yesterday afternoon and found heavy fire coming from the house. no one was hurt. the state fire marshal' s office is trying to determine how the fire started. the observation deck of the weston observatory in manchester is open to the public, but it' s for a limited time. the city landmark is open to fundraise for the manchester historic association. the tower is 360 feet higher than elm street and is a great spot to look at fall foliage. it was open from 10:00 to 4:00 today, and it will reopen again next saturday and sunday. john clayton: in addition to being able to go up the observatory, we are doing a walking tour of oak hill. there is a legendary swimming hole that you can walk by, the top of mcintyre ski area, it'

now we are at 55 in concord. 54 in nashua. lower 50' s in jaffrey. already falling to 50 in berlin. it is going to be a cold night, especially in the northern part of the state. the winds continue to be breezy. the airport in nashua reporting 10 miles an hour out of the northeast. this is a cooler, drier direction we are getting this error. with clear skies tonight, temperatures are going to bottom out. clouds will act like a blanket and retain the heat from the day. without clouds, the cold settles in. temperatures in the 20' s over the northern part of the state. 30, plymouth. 39 in manchester. in the southern part of the state, temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30' s. i would not be surprised if some of the valleys could get frost,

even though temperatures are hovering just above freezing. because of that, we do have a frost advisory posted for the hard frost yet. you will get frost in the northern part of the state, but t have an advisory because the growing season is over because frost has happened. where that has not happened yet, you have an advisory. you may want to cover your sensitive plants. re are waiting for the tomatoes or mums, you want to cover those up to protect from the frost. here is the good news. temperatures will be on the rebound over the next couple of days. it has been cool even for october. the average high 65. we have been below that. we will get warmer. by wednesday, close to 70 degrees. completely clear skies across the area. just high, thin clouds. that will be how it remains overnight. tomorrow morning, there may be lingering clouds in southern new

after the game, they saluted don orsillo, who called his last game for boston. in the booth. dodgers starter clayton kershaw became the first pitcher since randy johnson in 2002 with 300 strikeouts in a single season. kershaw struck out seven over 3 -- seven and 2/3 innings of work to finish the regular season with 301 k' s. the patriots are enjoying a sunday off. it' s their bye week. in fact, the players had today off completely. they get back at it next sunday at the dallas cowboys. elsewhere in the afc east, the jets and dolphins played in london this morning. chris ivory had a career day for new york, running for 166 yards and this touchdown. that made it 7-0. in the second quarter, ryan fitzpatrick finds eric decker for the touchdown. jets win 27-14. they are 3-1. the bills were home with the giants. in the fourth quarter 16-3 , giants.

williams out of the backfield. 23-yard touchdown. he is the only back in the league with a touchdown in each of the first four games. that made it 16-10 giants. but later in the fourth, eli manning dumps it off to rashad jennings and he does the rest. 51 yard touchdown. the giants win it 24-10. both teams are now 2-2. the patriots are still undefeated in the league. new york jets at 3-1. the dolphins struggling, 1-3. chip kelly' s eagles were in washington. fourth quarter, 16-13 redskins. sam bradford throws deep into the endzone to miles austin for the 39-yard touchdown. eagles take their first lead of the day. 20-16. game. kirk cousins hits pierre garcon and the redskins get the touchdown. the eagles are 1-3.

jason: the unh hockey team played an exhibition against st francis xavier today. first period, the x-men on the power play. eric locke is able to stuff it past danny tirone. 1-0 visitors in the first. later in the period, collin macdonald feeds richard boyd. and the sophomore finds the back of the net. 1-1 after one. the x-men got three goals in the second. that makes it to-one. they led 4-1 before unh would score again. it was 4-2 st. francis after two. unh got three in the third. at last check, the wildcats led 5-4. we will have those results and reaction at 11:00. the third race just wrapped up
