like we do. now wmur news 9 daybreak. >> good morning everybody. sean: a chilly start to our day. i noticed on my drive-in, rather foggy in certain spots. mike: the river valley, you have the cooler air over the warmer water and you get that fog. some of the lower valley' s seeing that play out. plymouth completely clear at this morning. we are setting up for a lot of sunshine out there today. a few extra clouds into the afternoon. temperatures not quite as chilly as what we had yesterday. still in the mid-30' s. in the 40' s and a lot of locations. high temperatures today 60. statewide, sunshine out there and light wind out of the north. much more in just a bit. let' s take a look at your morning ride. we are trying we are joined by

hassan pointed to her successes as governor. and ayotte responded by say she looks forward to a spirited year' s race for governor? ray brewer has a look at who is considering a run. ray: good morning. with maggie hassan' s announcement, the race for governor is certainly wide open. aisle are lining up. executive council chris sununu is also in the race. and will likely face stiff competition. frank able blue is exporting -- is exploring a run and jeb bradley is weighing his options. on the democratic side, senator andrew hosmer thinking about a run and colin van nostrand says he will make an announcement about his plans in the coming days. the former state security chief mike conley and stephanie shaheen, the daughter of jeanne

shaheen, have also expressed interest. it promises to be a busy campaign. >> open seats are very popular. you typically have a lot of people in the wings of both parties waiting for a shot and it open seat because you do not have the same kind of disadvantage you might have with an incumbent. ray: bottom line? there will be a new face in the corner office come january 2017. we will take a look at the latest poll to see how the candidates are stacking up. sean: thanks. voters in derry will get to weigh in on the town budget after the state supreme court rejected an appeal filed by the town council. i judge and previously awarded a town to hold a special election. the town council passed a controversial budget early this year that includes several cuts, including to public safety. but residents filed petitions. the election is set for next

tuesday, a week from today. one person was taken to the hospital with several serious injuries after a motorcycle collided with an suv in manchester last night. police say the harley davidson was heading north on elm street when the crash of an at the intersection with clark street. police arrested the driver they say crashed into dunkin' donuts at the intersection of main and granite streets sunday night. jason martinez morales of manchester is charged with criminal threatening, reckless conduct and conduct after an accident after running from the scene. a passenger was treated for nonlife threatening injuries. fire destroyed a seasonal cottage in spofford lake flight. when firefighters arrived just after 7:00, the home was already engulfed. the cuase i -- cuase is -- cause is under investigation. a former secret police officer has played guilty to assaulting

a man in custody in 2009. mark richardson was one of three officers seen in surveillance video that went viral. he was the only one charge when the jury failed to reach a berdych -- a verdict. instead of a real trial -- a re trial richeson has pled guilty. >> we have entered into a bully agreement -- a plea agreement. which is 12 months. 21 days suspended for two years. sean: the victim says he thinks richardson' s reserve more than the 21 days available under the cap. he will be given the opportunity to speak at the sentencing in november. president obama has not declared a major disaster for south carolina as that state deals with historic, deadly flooding. 10 people in palmolive state -- in the palmetto state have died. tens of thousands of people do not have to google water this morning.

this morning. reporter: after a virtual firehose of water was turned on south carolina, the state remains water locks. rain stopped does not mean we are out of the woods. reporter: roads has sadly even after avoiding hurricane joaquin, officials say this discretion is as bad as when hurricane hugo hit in 1989. about 40,000 people left without drinkable water. 550 bridges and roads closed, thousands in shelters or stranded. many like this driver escaping just-in-time. rescue workers pulled basket after basket of evacuees from the rising waters with tales of heroism coming from neighbors helping each other. >> when i saw the water rising, i said i have a truck. let' s, what can i do? she said, i think we need to evacuate.

there this morning along with patchy fog. there is fog to be had and a lot of that burns off quickly by 7:00 or 8:00 a.m., setting up mostly sunny skies. temperature is running five degrees warmer today than we had yesterday to details on that and the rest the work week coming up. sean: with the heroin epidemic continuing to grow, frisbie memorial hospital and rochester is teaming up with local pharmacies to make narcan available over-the-counter. doctors at the hospital assigned to standing order prescription for the nasal spray version of the drug, meaning it can be sold to anyone at risk of overdosing or to a family member or friend who has training and open your overdose prevention. >> we want to make sure that we are out in front of this, we are not playing games. everyone to do everything we can to make sure that the citizens of rochester are medically, emotionally support in this kind of an epidemic. sean: the standing orders are already available at the

rochester walgreens and will be in place at all pharmacies in the area. health experts and narcan could save more lives than any other medication in the u.s. this year. the captain of an american airlines flight from phoenix to boston died in midair yesterday. the plane made an emergency landing in syracuse, new york. the copilot radio asking for medics to board the plane as soon as possible, and reported the pilot was unresponsive and not breathing. his cause of death is not yet clear. has a just say they did not know the pilot had actually died until they got back on the plane to continue on to boston. a 12-year-old girl in texas is facing a serious problem doctors cannot figure out why. sean: schools in texas are pulling a textbook and the publisher is apologized ing because it refers to slaves as workers and interpreted slavery as immigration. the company will provide a free supplemental plan about the language in the books. hundreds of school district in texas are using the world geography book. competition for a job can sometimes be pretty hard but not usually to this extent. a state in northern india posted

we have clear skies and light went with patchy fog out there this morning. hurricane joaquin exiting stage right. moisture along the carolinas which is withering away. our next front located back to the north and west which slides in tomorrow afternoon could be a couple of sprinkles for the north country but that is it until that chance of showers friday. temperature is knock back into the 20' s up north. southern areas upper 30' s, lower 40' s. mid-30' s in the monadnock region. in most locations, we are several degrees above where we were yesterday. it is a chilly start to the day. surge of warmth in the ohio valley starts to come at us today. five degrees warmer today. another couple degrees tomorrow. that means 62 to 70. light breeze today. sunshine with a few fair weather clouds in the afternoon. tomorrow, partly sunny as we have that front approaching from the north and west. a couple of sprinkles for the north country tomorrow afternoon

but as that slides through some cooler air will start to draining behind that. highs tomorrow in the lower 60' s to lower 70' s. we eventually drop back from the mid-50' s to mid 60' s. we will drop five or seven degrees through the day on thursday. as that cooler air rushes in, we start to get the cooler air back in an increasing close thursday night. by friday, it does look like we will have a thickening of clouds in the morning and the chance of scattered showers focused into the afternoon on friday and start to pull away friday night. friday, getaway day for a lot of folks coming up for the foliage and traveling around for the holiday weekend. fingers crossed not too heavy on that on friday afternoon. you go much of the week without much in the way over rain chance. then things clear out nicely in time for the weekend. tonight, again, much like this morning, not quite is chilly. you will notice tomorrow we are warm again. temperatures 60' s to some lower 70'

it sets the stage for a highly competitive race that will be critical in determining majority control the senate. our latest granite state polls shows how close this race could be. the number show in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup, ayotte and hassan are in a dead heat with ayotte holding a two-point edge over the governor. this survey was taken last week before hassan announced her decision. with maggie hassan setting her site in washington, that leaves a wide-open race for governor in the upcoming cycle. ray brewer joins us at the statehouse with a look at who is eyeing a run for the corner office. ray: good morning. it looks like it is going to be a crowded race on both sides of the aisle. candidates lining up to run. >> a new governor will move into the corner office at the statehouse in january 2017. one candidate who is only in the

the 21-year-old was illegally running along powerlines on pheasant run drive yesterday morning when he crashed. authorities say it appears excessive speed was a factor in the accident. littleton police are asking for your help in tracking down an armed robber. they say the man seen in this picture held up the circle k irving station at knife point sunday night. police believe he had a dark tattoo on his left hand between his thumb and forefinger. the robber got away with items from the store. no one was hurt. concord police say they have arrested the would-be thief to employees. investigators say nathan lesage september 13. they say he got away with two drill sets worth $500. two days later, lesage was trying to steal more drills but employees confronted him and he made chicken noises at them before running away. a regional planning commission

causing the van to land on top of the car. the driver was cited for negligent operation. the head o f u.s. forces in afghanistan has returned to testify before congress this morning. as nikole killion explains, this is about the future of u.s. troops. nikole: joseph campbell will testify about the number of troops that should stay in afghanistan. the key question -- should present obama stick with her alter his plan to dramatically reduce the u.s. presence after 2016? campbell spoke about it at the pentagon saying afghan forces are getting better but still need help. >> where where they were a couple years ago to where they are today is astounding. i think they continue to be very resilient. and they continue to need our support. nikole: campbell addressed a u.s. airstrike on the clinic over the weekend. afghan forces asked for your support.
