tom: and chester police are concerned something may have happened to a woman who' s been missing for more than two weeks, now that her roommate has been found dead in by parent suicide. shelley: sue hutchinson and stephen andrade lived together on caleb wrote. they both disappeared last month. stephanie joins us live with more on that. stephanie: manchester police have been searching for sue hutchinson since our family reported her missing on september 20. now police and neighbors are even more concerned. >> we' re just really hoping that she shows up, and just comes back. >> chris peffer has lived in the upper apartment of 169 calef road for 5 years. he says his lower-level neighbor 57-year-old sue hutchinson was always there. >> sue' s been here since before i lived here. she' s just a homebody and always around. just a helpful lady. never had anything mean to say.

>> but on september 20 she disappeared. peffer says she left all her clothes food and her beloved dog in the house. >> it just didn' t seem right that she up and left with all her stuff behind. >> but hutchinson' s roommate 36-year-old steven andrade disappeared at the same time. manchester police say andrade was last seen driving hutchinson' s silver bmw. which was found monday in merrimack. on tuesday andrade' s body was found in a motel 6 in tewksbury, massachusetts where he apparently shot and killed himself. >> the fact that there' s a self-inflicted gunshot wound by steven andrade we' re starting to be more concerned that something untoward may have happened to sue hutchinson. >> police say andrade had been dating hutchinson' s daughter. although the two broke up they say there were no reported problems between hutchinson and andrade. peffer says he hopes that hutchinson just ran away after some trouble and prays that she' s safe. >> if it' s something as simple as her just taking off, sue, if you'

october 29 sentencing date. live in the studio suzanne roantree wmur news 9 tom: a judge has denied a request to reduce his sentence for a man who gave a friend heroine that led to his death. his friend at a party. it was argued the rest of his because he' s been an exemplary prisoner for eight years. shelley: the department of health and human services says this year new hampshire is averaging 27 drug-related deaths a month. 91% of those are related to opioids, especially heroine and fentanyl. one of the people seeing that increase firsthand is the president of new england largest family-owned funeral home.

grim reality. >> it' s a sad trend and it' s happened over the last two or three years in terms of our firm being asked by the medical examiner' s office, by families, to respond to heroine dess throughout the new hampshire market. shelley: he said they have responded to 50 opioids as so far this year. most of those he said attributed to heroine overdoses. >> ten years ago if we had a younger person that passed away from a drug overdose it was, oh my god look what happened. this 18-year-old woman passed away, and it was shocking. fast forward 10 years it' s almost de-sensitized my staff. >> phaneuf says the average age of those who have died is 32-years-old and the majority have been women. another trend he' s now seeing, families using obituaries and social media to tell people

>> families are using a really tragic event as a way to educate the public, saying this is what happened to my son. this is what happened to my dad. we don' t want it to happen again. shelley: and like so many other people, phaneuf is hoping addicts can get the treatment they need, so there are less overdose deaths. >> for my staff and the families that we have to serve, i hope this issue goes away and goes away fairly quickly. shelley: a recent wmur-granite state poll listed heroin as the number one problem facing the state. state leaders are urging people who need treatment for addiction to go online to nh treatment.org. some in the treatment community say there' s a big difference between availability of treatment and the ability to access it. melissa crews of hope for new hampshire recovery says the state should exert pressure on insurance companies to cover more treatment services. >> we have a kid here that' s been hanging out here with us for a couple weeks, living in a tent down by the river.

he really wants recovery and doesn' t qualify for any. shelley: the new hampshire providers association says the most important thing someone struggling with addiction can do is get an assessment to determine the level of care they need. tom: senator jeanne shaheen is in europe tonight, leading a delegation that' s reviewing the syrian refugee crisis. the group will look at how germany and greece are handling the influx of refugees, and look at the impact of russia' s aggression into the ukraine. due to security, the trip wasn' t made public until after the delegation already left. this morning, president obama signed a bill into law that senator shaheen authored to fix a flaw in the affordable care act. the law will now block insurance rate increases for many small businesses. a super-pac ad urging vice race for president is no longer running. the vice president had signaled he preferred that ad not be on the air. draft biden is an independent

group that has been calling on the vice president to run for president. biden has yet to make a decision about the presidential race, saying he' s not sure he' s ready after the death of his son. shelley: a merrimack native has become the first division one men' s basketball coach to come out as gay. chris burns is an assistant coach at bryant university in rhode island. he came out publicly in a personal essay posted on the website outsports.com. he says meeting other members of the lgbt community at a sports summit made him realize the importance of telling his story. bryant university says it fully supports burns. the first class of a new leadership program at dartmouth -- dartmouth hitchcock medical center was recognized today in concord. there were 30 graduates. they are group of health care professionals at dartmouth who have completed a six-month program designed to create and

>> what we want to do is make new hampshire the model for this country. the leadership fellowship will allow us to do that and retain, as i' ve said, the brightest and best right here at home at dartmouth hitchcock. shelley: organizers say they hope to graduate three classes per year. tom: a long line at barnes and noble in manchester tonight to see anne romney and get her book signed. mitt romney' s wife has written a book called " in this together, my story." it details her successes and struggles in the battle against multiple sclerosis. romney was diagnosed with m.s. in 1997. and while the disease can' t be cured, it can be managed. she says she has had so many up and downs but she wrote the book for others who face the same challenges. >> i couldn' t function anymore i was not able to take care of my family or do anything. i was just barely able to take care of myself, and the coming through that and getting better, for me i want the people to know , there is hope. and that life is bueatiful and worth living.

(applause) jeb. proven conservative. real results. right to rise usa is responsible for the content of this message. shelley: one of the americans who stopped a shooter on the french train is now hospitalized after he was stabbed. police say airman first class spencer stone was stabbed during a fight outside a bar in california early this morning. the hospital says he is in serious condition. stone and two friends jumped into action this summer when a man opened fire while they were on a train in france. the last obstacle to approving a fund to help victims of a train derailment in quebec is gone. tom: a runaway train with 72 oil tankers derailed in quebec, in july 2013 bursting into flames, and killing 47 people.

dropped its objections to the settlement fund for victims and $338 million families of those killed. at this hour, 10 years ago, evacuations were underway in alstead, as the water was rapidly rising. governor john lynch was one of the key figures in the town' s recovery even going so far as to , give out his personal cell phone number to residents. wmur' s jennifer vaughn sat down with former governor lynch to hear his memories of this disaster. jennifer as the rain pounded : alstead, then-governor john lynch was halfway around the world. >> the mission was to germany, ukraine and chezch republic. jennifer the trade mission was : not to be. as lynch arrived in berlin, an urgent phone call came in. >> i got on the next plane which was 45 minutes later and , returned home, went to eoc and alstead the next morning out. what he saw was horrifying. jenniferwhat he saw was horrifying. : >> the place was devastated, as we know.

here is the forecast for overnight tonight, 30' s up north, 40' s almost everywhere else including concord. about 47 in manchester. tomorrow will be kind of a gray day with rain from midday on and then scattered showers in the evening. the foliage going on in the northern part of the state and high color for a lot of the rest of the state from north of the lakes region, modern -- moderate cover for southern new hampshire. temperatures warming up, so it will be comfortable when you' re stepping out of the car and taking pictures of the beautiful foliage. then little cooler as we head into next week. tom: a lot of people have columbus day off. ,: let' s get over to jamie and
