the focus will likely be on hillary clinton. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good morning to you on this columbus day. looks like we're in for some more great weather today for the holiday. you want to check in with kevin skarupa. more warmth today? kevin: rounding out the holiday weekend in fine fashion. each of the last couple of days, temperatures have been warming. today will be the warmest of them. looks like temperatures just about statewide up into the 70's. we are starting off on the cool side this morning. you have over 12 hours of night time. temperatures just have that tendency to slip back even cooler than the afternoon highs will be. we're down into the mid 30's. we're in the mid to upper 40's. everyone likely at or above 70 this afternoon. as high as 78 in nashua this afternoon. with a light breeze out of the south and southwest. we'll talk shower chances in a bit. let's look at your

erin: thank you. our top story. five years have passed since a manchester woman was found dead in her home. her killer that has never been found. investigators ruled the death of lynne brennan a homicide. there are still many questions to be answered. ray brewer live from the manchester police department with reaction from brennan's family. ray: it was five years ago yesterday that lynn brin -- lynne brennan's body was found inside her apartment in manchester. it is unclear when she died. authorities have never said how. brennan's family says the mother of three was going through a divorce at the time of her death. she had been living in the apartment for just a few months. her brother says there were no signs of forced entry. beyond that, he doesn't know any details. he says it is important to bring attention to what happened in hopes it will make a difference in the investigation into her death. >> if i lived in your community and there was a killer on the loose or

there was an unsolved murder, i think i would want to know about it. i think it is newsworthy. i think it needs to be said. someone knows something. there's someone out there that committed a murder and is still possibility here. ray: we did reach out to the attorney general's office yesterday. they were not available to speak with us. if you have any information, you can always leave an anonymous tip. reporting live in manchester, ray brewer. erin: police are trying to figure out why two cars crashed head on in pelham sending three people to the hospital with serious injuries. officers say a car was turning into the tobacco junction convenience store on bridge street near the massachusetts state line when it was hit by an oncoming vehicle. a 34-year-old woman was flown to a boston hospital with life threatening injuries. two other people were seriously hurt. a 1-year-old child was

not hurt thanks to his child safety seat. two people were taken to the hospital after an suv hit a motorcycle in salem yesterday evening. police say that a 16-year-old driver was turning off glen road when he collided with an oncoming motorcycle. the rider of the bike was taken to a massachusetts hospital with serious injuries. his passenger was also hurt. turning now to politics. it is almost time for the democrats to take over the spotlight. the first democratic presidential debate is set for tomorrow night in las vegas with hillary clinton and bernie sanders leading in the polls. abc's kenneth moton is on the campaign trail. >> the time has come. hillary clinton and bernie sanders will finally face off. the front runner still in the lead. slipping in some polls. it will stay on center stage in the prime time debate in las vegas. it is a chance for the vermont senator rising in the polls to show a

can think of right now. reporter: unlike the republicans, there's a much smaller democratic field so candidates like martin o'malley and lincoln chaffetz need tour attention. they will get some in the debate. erin: a weekend hiking trip turned deadly. a 24-year-old man was quebec was hiking in lincoln on saturday when he collapsed. witnesses and rescue officials performed cpr. the man was outlifted out by helicopter. he died at the hospital. an autopsy is scheduled to determine exactly how he died. two more students in southern maine have been diagnosed with viral meningitis. the most recent case involves a child at k-3rd grade school in the town of cumberland. this comes two days after a high school student was diagnosed. last month two other cases were reported in berwick, maine.

forecast coming up. erin: a woman who grew up here in new hampshire says she fought off an intruder inside her home in indiana. karen dolley woke up early friday and found a man standing in the hallway. she's trained in medieval combat. she jumped out of bed and grabbed the sword and held the man down until police arrived. >> i can see the man standing right here. i came at him. i started punching like this. get out. get out. get out. erin: police say he was high and thought he was hiding from someone. he apologized on his way out. hundreds of people help honor fallen police officers in the queen city yesterday. the manchester police department hosted the ninth annual foot race for the fallen 5k. it went from the police

from prison is flying off store shelves. the company making the mask has had to start a new production run because demand is so high. even designers say they are surprised by the popularity. the pilot of an allegiant airlines flight had to slam on the brakes when one of the engines caught fire. there were more than 160 people on board. no one was hurt. the plane was already going more than 100 miles per hour when the pilot aborted and fire trucks raced to douse the plane on the tarmac. five coalition members were killed and five others hurt when they crashed at the nato base yesterday. british officials say at least two royal air force members are among the dead. the chopper went down while landing and officials are calling it a quote non-hostile innocent. it seems moviegoers are still excited about

the matt damon thriller, "the martian" pulled in $37 million to hold on to the top spot for the second week in a row. "hotel transylvania:2" remained number two. "pan" was third in the debut weekend. the curtain fell at the colonial theater last night. it may never rise again on the same stage. the ornate theater has operated since 1900. emerson college says major renovations are needed. right now the plan is to close down for about a year. when it re-opens, they are considering turning it into a welcome center or a dining hall with a performance space. emerson officials promise there will be future performances, though they are considering a variety of options. the foilage is at peak up north. the colors are amazing

colors even more vibrant. kevin: the attention is no precipitation. it came on friday. now back to the nice weather. we have another rain chance. before we get there, let's talk about the weather headlines. warm columbus day. temperatures into the 70's. there will be a few more clouds around tomorrow and partial sunshine on wednesday. each of those two days we'll have the chance of a couple of passing showers. what will be amazing is we get to the seven day forecast. each day the temperatures slip backward through the seven-day forecast. today with temperatures running 15-20 degrees above the average, that's about as high as we'll go. we're expecting almost nothing but sunshine today. just a few fair weather clouds into the afternoon. we're going to see the front come through tomorrow. then the upper level system on wednesday. temperatures in the 30's up north all the way down to keene, 39;

we're in the mid to upper 40's from rochester to the coast. the coolest of the air rotateing through. it was in the 90's yesterday in north dakota. that's the warmer air that heads in our direction. we're not going to get to that level around here. as you'll notice, temperatures into the afternoon climb above 70 degrees. wind out of the west and southwest at around five to ten miles an hour into the afternoon. clear skies through the day today. a clear start to the evening allowing temperatures to fall into the 40's to lower 50's. we start with a few break of sunshine. it will be limited. there will be the risk of a shower around. we're expecting a lot of dry hours to the day. nothing you are going to want to cancel any outdoor plans over. from there, risk of a passing shower through wednesday. wednesday just a little bit more sunshine around. tomorrow best chance will be early in the day. i think kind of scattered around through the day on wednesday. we'll have a few breaks of sun along with the risk of a passing shower. that's a secondary front that as that comes

through and behind that will be some much cooler air that's likely around through the end of the weekend. just continuing to skew cooler from there. high temperatures into the mid to upper 70's in southern areas. lower and mid 70's up north. it comes with a southerly and southwesterly breeze around five to ten miles an hour. just longer nights. temperatures drop back into the 40's to lower 50's. it will be with partly cloudy skies. tomorrow with quite a few clouds building in early, we'll have the risk of a shower. temperatures still going in the 60's to lower range of the 70's. as i mentioned, every forecast, temperatures go backward. that includes the overnight lows as well. ultimately by the time we get to the weekend, we're talking highs in of the 50's. i want you to appear closely, erin. look at the graphic closely late friday saturday. do you see the precipitation there? kevin: yes.

erin: checking our roads, we're looking at sunshine later on. here's a live look at how things are moving out there. kevin: for a look at morning drive, we're joined live by deb davidson. good monday morning, deb. deb: good monday morning. keep the snow flakes away from us, especially for the day today. a lot of commuters have the day off. the traffic is nice and light through the state of new hampshire as you are making your way on 93 north and south. right now 293 north and south. there are lane shifts in place between exits five and three. that's for some bridge maintenance. the exit four onramp is closed for construction on the northbound side. the everett turnpike southbound, we're not seeing any problems from the bedford follows. on route 63 southbound in hinsdale that's near the chesterfield town line, there's a tractor trailer that has the road closed. they expect the truck to be removed by 8:00 a.m.

it's been just -- whew. sorry. ray: it's been five years since his sister was murdered. time hasn't healed the void felt by his family. they ruled brennan's death a homicide but haven't said how or when she died. >> i'm a big control freak. there's no control here. there's no positive affirmation of anything. >> brennan was a mother of three. in 2012, her sons passed out fliers in hopes of answers. with each passing year, they grow more doubtful of solving the case. >> i think we're all pretty educated people the farther it gets along, the less likely resolved. the only people we can rely on are the attorney general's office and the local police here and the community. ray: he says his sister was going through a divorce at the time of her death. she had been living in the apartment for just a few months. >> he was at home. what i've been told

maine was hiking up the ammonoosuc ravine when she felt ill. she was able to hike down with help. she was taken to a local hospital. doing this morning. a scary scene in laconia sunday when a car caught fire on route 106. the laconia fire department says a ford 250 was fully engulfed in flames when they arbived. fortunately nobody was hurt. no word on what started the fire. in rochester, a motorcycle crash backed up traffic on route 125 sunday morning. police say the driver was motorcycle abruptly stopped and was rear ended by a car. the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. a driver hit a state trooper cruiser on 93 south in campton. they got a call a driver was weaving in and out

of traffic. minutes later, the driver hit sergeant muzzey's cruiser. they arrested katherine d'angelo for driving while intoxicated. the sergeant was treated for minor injuries. they have launched a new web site to help electricity consumer shop for competitive rates and suppliers. on puc.nh.gov customers identify if they are residential or small commercial businesses then select their local utility from a list of local companies. officials say it will make it easier for customers to scroll through the various products and prices and decide which best meets their needs. many travelers flying on southwest were faced with delays yesterday after a technical glitch slowed down the airline's web site and booking system. the system controlling digital boarding passes, the mobile app, they stop working. the trouble began around

southwest began manually issuing boarding passes. by 1:30, the number of affected flights eached 450. >> it is usually good. sometimes that murphy's law gets you, doesn't it? erin: southwest saws it doesn't know what caused the problem or when it will be fixed. they are causing fires to be arrived two hours before the scheduled departures. as of this morning, they weren't reporting any delays. it is a good idea to check ahead before heading out to catch the flight. maybe arrive a little early. it is a holiday weekend for many. the 19th annual lincoln craft festival continues. the village shops along with main street were packed with vendors yesterday. more than 100 artisans from 15 states are selling their crafts and food. one vendor in particular had a long line of people waiting to pica noellies straight from the north end in boston. >> i come up here to

mary shevory sat down with our sister station. her daughter was one on board. despite what happened, she isn't mad at the captain. >> i believe that if there was any way they could have prevented it, they would have, but the captain chose to ship out in that tropical storm. erin: shevory says her daughter described herself as being married to the sea. this morning the community is mourning the loss of a police officer killed in the line of duty. it happened yesterday in cordova, tennessee. terence olridge was off multiple times. the shooting is under investigation. a suspect is in custody. the early domination of the 2015 new england

setter, jennifer leedham went to the national championship, and her sister, johannah was one of the most accomplished in raven's history. good luck to them. all right. outside we're seeing temperatures in the 40's in many areas. later on today, we're going to see some 70's. kevin: it looks that way. a lot of sunshine. the fall foilage is peaking now. things looking very nice into the afternoon. we're starting in the 30's and 40's with the winds. no issues with fog if you are headed out early this morning. even if so shouldn't take long for that to burn off early on and warm day. probably one of the warmest days we'll have year. even though temperatures today are going to be running about ten degrees cooler than date. record high for concord today is 87. we're going to probably wind up about ten degrees shy of that.

it just gives you an idea to how warm it can be this time of year. panning out, you'll see a system to the west. the front comes through with a stray shower tomorrow. temperatures early this morning in the 40's to near 50 degrees. you'll notice a few upper 30's as you get into some of the lower lies valleys. then you get up north and we have the clear skies and light winds. you are going to see a lot of mid 30's here along with lower 40's depending on the cloud cover and your elevation. we'll look at temperatures into the afternoon making your way up above 70 degrees. 71 or 72. up in pittsburgh and lancaster as high as 78. there may be one or two spots in interior sections that tip out right around 80 this afternoon. again we're looking at low and mid 70's up north to mid and upper 70's in the southern areas. from for, we drop back again tonight in the 40's to near 50 degrees. partly cloudy start with clouds trying to drift in overnight. stray shower just about

any point tomorrow. you'll notice as you pan through the entire day, it is nothing more than a passing shower or two with a lot of drier hours mixed in between. it may start with sunshine on wednesday only to have clouds build in again. the chance of a shower or two. nothing that is going to amount to anything over a tenth or a quarter of an inch of rain. once that goes by, it drags down cooler air. we continue to step backyard in the extended forecast all the way through the end of the week and likely through next weekend. temperatures in the 30's and 40's early. we should be up to either side of 70 by lunch time. into the afternoon. everyone is in the 70's with a south and southwesterly breeze around five to ten miles an hour. as far as the extended forecast is concerned, you'll notice the afternoon highs and overnight lows that will go down together. a couple of systems we're tracking, one the cool front on tuesday with the risk of a shower. upper level system comes through with a chance of a shower on wednesday. another front comes through late thursday and early friday.
