warrant out for their arrest. >> how do i fix this? i just want to know how to fix it because i've never been in trouble before. >> undercover police officers in virginia caught thieves allegedly masquerading as officers just last year, the scammers tell victims to pay up or go to jail. the only way to avoid serving time the scammers claim is to pay a fine. >> it's a growing problem and anyone who loses money to these scammers is one too many. >> reporter: victims are instructed to get a pay paul account, put money on an over the counter prepaid card or for a quote immediate payment, asked to give up their debit card and pin numbers. >> they can be convincing and play on our self-doubt. all of us think maybe we missed something and going to try to get money out you have you. >> police around the country received hundreds of calls from victims. so many of falling prey to the scam, the ftc is issuing an urgent warning.
