tristan wolusky showed no emotion as he was led away in handcuffs. this afternoon jurors convicted him of all charges. prosecutors say the rochester man and two others went to rob wilkinson at his home and wilkinson was stabbed more than 20 times and his body dumped. wolusky's two friend pled guilty to second degree murder in exchange for testifying against wolusky. his toif attorney argued the coconspirators killed will kin on and said they lied during their testimony. >> he had compassion, he had a good heart. he was a kid, you know. i could go on and on. but i'm not going to. reporter: so wolusky will be sentenced in late november,

will be sentenced on november november 10. mike cronin, wmur news 9. tom: lawyers for a former st. paul's prep school student are reiterating their arguments that his most serious conviction be thrown out. owen labrie was convicted of five charges in connection to the all the of a teen-age girl. his lawyers say a felony computer related charge carries too harsh a penalty, requires him to register as a sex offender, and is inconsistent with lawmaker intent that someone convicted of misdemeanor sex assault should not have to register. jean: a rochester teenager was found dead in a motel room over the weekend. now police are investigating her death as a possible drug overdose. wmur's jennifer crompton is live in rochester with how spaulding high school is handling the death of this 17-year-old. reporter: 17-year-old evangelique tarmey, also known as eve, was a student here at

staff was asked to keep a close eye on students to today to see how they were coping since learning of her death on saturday. that while investigators await toxicology test results to see if she did die of a drug overdose. counselors are on hand for students and staff at spaulding high school, as the reality of evangelique tarmey's death sinks in. >> met with the staff this morning to give them an update and prepare for the day and there was certainly a lot of sadness. reporter: according to police the 17-year-old had been stayingity riffier yeah hotel with her mother and mother's boyfriend. police say he called 911 saturday morning about 5:00. she was declared dead at the scene a short time later. >> it is a suspicious death and we certainly are looking into the possibility of a drug overdose. reporter: police say there was nothing at the scene to indicate how she died. they won't comment on the two adults in the motel room with

investigation. reporter: we in the past have had reports of drug activity there, but really no more than any other location, there is a drug problem in row chester and throughout the seacoast area. so we respond to these types of calls frequently, of reports of drugs. reporter: at this point the school not focusing on what killed her but rather the profound loss of someone so young. >> we really aren't at that point yet, we want to try and get through a tough day today and figure out the longer term issues and what we need to help everybody with long-term. reporter: according to police those toxicology test results could take weeks, in the meantime they are asking anyone with information to contact them. jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. jean: now to the state's heroin epidemic. right now there are five drug courts in new hampshire counties and a proposal would expand drug courts statewide. supporters say these courts

helped battle addiction and fight crime. wmur's andy hershberger is joining us live in the newsroom. reporter: hillsboro county has been running a drug court for almost one year and supporters of the idea say it works. county. every monday at 2:00 it convenes, but this is not your traditional courtroom atmosphere. >> it is a traditionally supervised program designed to take high risk high need offenders and put them into a program that gives them both treatment and accountability with intense community supervision. reporter: this is one of five similar courts operating in the state, this program has 30 participants. all of these people have suspended prison time hanging over their heads and this court offers them a second chance. >> we know as a matter of fact and tickly during this opioid

crisis that traditional methods of criminal justice are not adequate, they're not working. or they're not working enough. reporter: you have to be selected to take part in drug court. the program usually lasts about a year. there is counseling, community service, intensive supervision and random drug testing. some are made to write essays about their experiences. >> i'm going to attempt to ask for help when i need it, it's going to be difficult, but i think i can manage to ask. reporter: honesty is the key. some relapse, some go to jail. those who follow the rules get to draw gift certificates from the fish bowl. >> this is a very difficult population. everybody who is in the drug court has either been to jail or prison, so this is a population that clearly traditional methods have not been working with. reporter: the bill in concord to expand drug courts could be on the governor's desk early next year.

live in the newsroom, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. jean: we instraight you to join us thursday night for a one-hour town hall on new hampshire's heroin epidemic, hear what it's like on the front lines of this battle from families living it, medical experts and police officers, a state of addiction, the war on heroin, thursday night at 7:00. tom: eversource officials are calling it a major milestone for the northern pass project. today the company made an official filing with the new hampshire site evaluation committee which has overnight of all large scale energy projects. this initiates the regulatory review process for the proposed transmission line from canada. >> as we get into the formal site evaluation process, there are many opportunities for public input. so we'll continue to listen and make adjustments as appropriate. >> it's pretty disappointing that northern task didn't take the opportunity to listen to the 80% of the comments of the

recent hearings that were in proposal. and they went ahead with what they had already proposed to do. tom: the site evaluation committee now has two months to review the latest filing by eversource. if it is approved, public hearings will resume 45 days later. jean: tonight the city of newington will city the plan to expand propane distribution in the region, they'll review safe concerns at 6:30. last week a superior court judge upheld the bore's approval of the project. sea three wants to nearly triple its offloading capacity. tom: still to come tonight, one of the top democratic candidates is spending less time campaigning here in new hampshire. how the momentum is shifting in the first in the nation primary state. jean: a police officer gets into a confrontation with a suspect during an arrest. how a 71-year-old man stepped in

we'll ta jean: to commitment 2016. multiple report suggest vice president joe biden could make a decision on a presidential run within the next 48 hours. tom: until that decision is made, however, it's hillary clinton and bernie sanders who are waging the battle in the first in the nation primary state. and once again the momentum could be shifting. josh mcelveen joins us now with a look. josh: should biden join a race already in progress, would it be interesting to see what impact that would have in new

that clinton has managed to blunt sanders' surge a bit. making the granite state the battle ground in this democratic primary race. >> certainly sound like some people are ready for a political revolution. report any crusade brings with it challenges and after a summer long sanders surge, recent polls suggest that it's hillary clinton now feeling the momentum after a strong debate performance and one prominent supporters points out, strong roots in new hampshire as well. >> started with 1992 when bill clinton was the come back kid here and it's continued in 2008 when hillary clinton won new hampshire and nobody thought she could, and i think she's going to win it again. reporter: at sanders headquarters staffers are busy, and his campaign director calls primary success critical. >> we're putting a lot of emphasis into making sure we're having the conversation about the senator's message and connecting him with as many people as possible. reporter: sanders has built awe campaign around the working class, but hillary clinton is no

>> if it can work for market basket across new england, it can work across america. reporter: lately, unlike earlier in the year, it has been clinton and not sanders who has been more visible in new hampshire. >> some might say he's beginning to take new hampshire for granted, i'm sure his people would not say that. >> the american people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn e mails. >> thank you. reporter: a good debate moment but perhaps not a sound one as he effectively took a pass at the scandal that dogged clintons campaign. >> it was an interesting calculation on bernie's part, remains to be seen what the bottom line is going to welcome back that. reporter: so the latest two polls post debate showed sanders with a shrinking lee and a dead heat between sanders and clinton in the other one. but those are snapshots in time that mean very little before the primary day and even less if joe

tom: a 71-year-old manchester man is being credited with helping a police officer make an arrest this past weekend. jean: 35-year-old ryan wilson faces several charges after he was pulled over sunday along south will will street. authority say as the officer approached the car, wilson stepped out of the vehicle and confronted the officer. a man who witnessed the fight stepped in to help. >> based on the fact the officer was fighting with this gentleman for a good amount of time there was a passer-by, a 71-year-old manchester resident, that happened to witness the whole ordeal, he opted to become a good samaritan and assisted officer smith and they ended up subduing him and placing him into custody. jean: wilson is expected in

court next month. mike: winter and fall all wrapped up into one from a picture early this morning in conway. you see the fading fall color in the foreground, that is a snow capped mount washington. 10 plus inches of snow so far this october, they average about 17 in the month. so that's what we're looking forward to, if you like that sort of thing. they got a run at the record. right now looks like we're warming, at least off to our west. although in the short term, there's a bit of snow approaching northern new hampshire on doppler radar. it's all quiet central and southern new hampshire right now. but the latest boundary is bumping in at just enough cold air that it's holding firm along the canadian border and into the mount washington valley to kick off a up the of snow this evening. many of these rain showers back to the west will tend to dry up as they approach central and southern new hampshire. but again in the great north woods, northern apartment of the white mountains you notice temperatures under the 30's to

light coating of snow the next couple hours. chilly atop mount washington at 18 degrees. so it's going to be a chilly evening. but then things start to change. a big wedge of summer warmth building deep south all the way to the northern plains, approaching the midwest and eventually noses in towards new england as the chilly air retreats to our north and northeast. so the jet stream flow shows milder conditions building in over the next few days, there will be a punch of cooler air thursday night into early on friday and then notice as we go toward the end of this weekend temperatures begin to climb again. so the real cold air is retreating at least for the next several days. in terms of snow again tonight, it mostly in the great north woods, there could be a coating, maybe an inch in the mountain tops, but then it begins to warm up in northern new hampshire. so any mix or snow showers will change over to rain showers. central, southern new hampshire states dry all evening, cloud

will build towards the early part of the morning, and there could be a passing shower or two, tomorrow clouds and partial sunshine and a slight chance of a shower and then more shower chances will increase later wednesday evening into wednesday night early thursday. here's a look at your sky cast, over manchester, clouds on the increase for tonight, temperatures coasting back, notice at sunup quite a few clouds and there could be a passing shower. but a good part of your tuesday will be dry, some partial sunshine, and notice temperatures, up into the lower 60's. so we are going to see a nice rebound as we go into tomorrow afternoon. mid 50's up north, on average lower 60's south. beyond that temperatures stay at or slightly above the norm. notice tonight 30 to 38, watch pout for a little wintery weather in the great north woods and northern white mountains. tomorrow could be a passing shower, some partial sun. temperatures on thursday several degrees above the average, despite a few showers. then we cooldown, it's bright and crisp on friday. early on saturday, by later
