the a motel room last weekend. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur news 9 at 5:00. josh: a father is facing charges after police say he assaulted his wife, barricaded himself inside a home while holding his own baby hostage. good evening, i'm josh mcelveen. jean: i'm jean mackin. stephanie woods is live in franklin tonight with new details on the investigation. reporter: franklin police say when they arrived at 72 west bow street a man was standing in the doorway holding his baby girl and threatening to stab police officers with a screwdriver if they stepped on his property. 33-year-old thomas carroll allegedly hit his wife, locked her out of their house and then barricaded himself inside with their 1-month-old around 8:30 this morning. police and state troopers surrounded the home and talked their way inside. officers say carroll took the baby out of the dangerous cold

and set her down inside. carroll alley resisted arrest, but officer tackled him to the ground and took him into custody. tonight carroll is facing several domestic violence charges, he'll be arraigned on monday and is being held on $25,000 cash bail. as of now the wife and baby are out of the hospital and doing okay. josh: police are searching for a shirtless man who walked into a mcdonald's in concord, pointed a gun at a cashier and threatened to hill her if she dnld hand over the cash drawer. reporter: police say the suspect was only wearing a mask, shorts and what looks like water shoes when he held up this mcdonald's here on fisherville road early this morning. surveillance images show the man

walking into the restaurant shortly before 1:00 a.m., shirtless, carrying what looks like a rifle or shotgun. police say the suspect pointed the weapon at one of the workers, demanded money and threatened to kill the employees several times. when the clerk went to give the man money, he grabbed the entire cash drawer and fled. police say the man ran north and may have left the scene in a dark colored car. >> obviously the weapon is seen, you can see that in several of the stills, somebody may recognize that. it's unusual that we would have a robbery involving a large weapon, a rifle or shotgun, it's not typical. so we're hoping that's something that stands out in someone's mind. reporter: police say they can only speculate about the man's strange appearance, but they are hopeful that someone will recognize something. anyone who has any information is asked to call concord police. andy hershberger, wmur news 9. josh: thanks. a manchester police are

up a 7-11 on webster street overnight. the man put several items on the counterrer, then demanded cash from the register. police say the suspect is a white man in his 50's. soon after the holdup a car was seen leaving the area by the gas pumps, at this time it's not clear if this car was involved. jean: we're having a cool start to the weekend. josh: yes, the is meredith where it a brisk 45 degrees at the lake. mike haddad will tell us if we'll see any warmer temperatures this weekend. mike: way may. still a little color hanging on in the lakes region, just at or past peak for many parts of new hampshire, from the lakes region north and west. right now, down into the upper 30's in the great north woods, struggled to get up to 40 degrees today, 40's and lower 50's over southeastern parts of the state. and a big temperature dip from

take a look at this, anywhere from 13 to 27 degrees colder than last night. clouds will hang tough across the great north woods, upper valley. highs generally between 50 and 55 degrees. nice cool and crisp weather, not so down in mexico. strongest hurricane ever to form in the western hemisphere, ready to make landfall, we'll talk more about that in a little bit. jean: thanks, mike. calling hours begin at 6:00 tonight for a spaulding high school senior who died from a suspected drug voafer dose. 17-year-old eve tarmey was found dead saturday in a motel room where she was staying with her mother and mother's boyfriend. jennifer crompton joins us from our seacoast bureau with how some of her classmates are planning a vigil in her honor. reporter: we can only imagine how difficult a week it's been

for family, friends and school community. the exact cause of death won't be determined until the results of toxicology tests are back, but that will come soon enough. her classmates are planning this vigil to grieve together and honor her memory. fellow seniors have it a memory card in eve tarmey's honor. it was just last friday, the day before she died, that she gathered with them all at spaulding high school for a class picture. >> you could definitely tell something was wrong, and i don't know, it's just heartbreaking because you just witnessed such a sweet and beautiful soul and to see her struggle like that, it's just very hard. reporter: the next morning she was gone. her death investigated as a possible drug overdose. >> definitely very tough, a lot of kids, we've passed them in the hall asks they've been crying. reporter: she spent time at a summer camp with eve years ago and remembers her as a happy girl with dreams of being a fashion designer.

the years, stevie and some stoppings who don't know eve well have planned a vigil in her honor sunday night. >> we really wanted the community to come together as a unit and try and support one another and grieve together, loss. reporter: students have coordinated all the details from the permit and candles to the memories. >> it's just, if someone lost their life and somebody lost their daughter and it's just i think people need to take a step back and realize that it's not about how she died right now, it's about remembering who she was and how she made you feel. reporter: both young women did talk about the heroin problem and admitted it is touching all around them. one of the things that they know is that whether or not eve's death ends up being tied at all to drugs, stevie russ says, and i quote, i hope it doesn't have to take another death for people

jeb bush's presidential campaign meanwhile is undergoing a shakeup. the former florida governor's national operation is cutting payroll and travel and will be hampshire. bush's campaign already has a dozen paid staff members here in the granite state. his local advisors say they're eager to add more soon. >> in a very wild and turbulent climate, it makes sense to put your resource where is they matter most, which is on the ground here in new hampshire. josh: bush plans to be back in the state immediately after next week's republican debate. in ohio, governor kasich also touring the granite state today, town halls in manchester and milford another, he has another one in concord at 6:00. jean: south carolina senator lindsey graham is in new hampshire today, he toured a business in rochester and is attending a house party at scott brown's home in rye this evening. and republican candidate george pataki sat down with us at wmur's candidate cafe this afternoon.

josh: massive water main break flooded a section of queens this morning, the break apparently started at a construction site. it flooded nearby streets and made a mess of traffic. it took quite a while to cap the main as well. fortunately none of the workers were hurt. jean: police are searching for suspects in a shooting at tennessee state university in nashville. police say the shooting happened after an apparent dispute over a dice game. one person was killed, two others injured in the shooting at an outdoor court yard. josh: more than 40 people were killed when a bus and a truck crashed head on in france. both vehicles burst into flames, the bus was carrying mainly elderly passengers. 43 people in total lost their lives. officials say the truck driver lost control and the bus tried to avoid it when the two collided. jean: the nurse from maine who made headlines defying her home

quarantine after working with ebola patients is now suing new jersey governor chris christie. she was quarantined when she arrived back in the u.s. last year, says she was questioned for several hours after arriving at newark airport and was quarantined in a tent outside the hospital. she claims she was illegally held against her will. josh: that is the sound of hurricane sirens in mexico where the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the western hemisphere is expected to make landfall tonight. the category 5 storm is also headed for some popular tourists areas, it could also create big problems in texas. reporter: as hurricane patricia continues to strengthen, heading toward mexico, nasa officials say the satellite images they have captured are just jaw dropping. and forecasters say with wind reaching more than 200 miles per hour, this is unprecedented.

category 1 stat us and rapidly intensified into category 5, very dangerous conditions. reporter: preparations and evacuations are already under way in puerto vallarta, mexico, sending travelers scrambling to leave town ahead of the storm. >> we have to catch our connecting flight from mexico tonight, so we have to fly on out. >> we're closely coordinating with mexican noter and advice u.s. citizens to follow mexican authorities' guidance. reporter: u.s. officials are also on alert for residences in parts of texas, still recovering from flash flooding with another storm. now with news of this powerful system threatening to drench texas with more heavy rain, this weekend. part of texas have already received over three inches of rain, four to eight possible into the next couple days with locally higher amounts. some locations in texas could receive over a foot of rain. reporter: already at least 100 flights in and out of certain

cities in the hurricane's path have been canceled. officials are warning residents to prepare for a significant weather event. elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. mike: here it is on satellite imagery, hurricane patricia barreling in towards western parts of mexico, will likely make landfall over the next several hours as a major category 5 storm. top wind a few hours ago up to 200, now down just 10 miles per hour, but still going to be a deadly storm i'm sure in parts of western mexico. catastrophic damage, 190-mile per hour wind as it nears the coastline of western mexico. there's the track. notice by tomorrow morning this thing has weakened down to a tropical storm. the reason, well, it works off of the warm waters of the pacific and over a big mountainous area, so it will of the wind.

headaches inland. and into southern parts of the u.s., sometime later in the weekend and early next week. so that's the story with hurricane patricia right now. we're taking a look at the weather around here which is much quieter. our web cam network over skies. you notice the fall color still anging around out there at strawbery banke. we do have sunshine working back in for the next hour or so 6:00. notice on satellite, quite a few stub bonds clouds across the great north woods and portions of the white mountains into the upper valley, they'll dissipate through the course of the night. that means clear skies for many through early tomorrow. but there is another system back to the west and that will approach as we go into tomorrow night and the first half of saturday. quite chilly now, upper 30's coastline.

you want to take in one of the fnf games tonight. low 40's for kickoff. upper 30's at half time. mid to upper 30's on your way home. so certainly bundle up, but at least you won't have any rain or snow to contend with for tonight. overnight tonight back into the 20's for many, widespread frost and freeze statewide. the exception to the freezing temperatures right along the immediate coastline. but after that cold start we do bounce back into the low to mid 50's by the afternoon as some of this area rolls on in. sunday a little piece of warmth tries to approach, gets in here by sunday midday and afternoon, so at least low, maybe mid 60's before we cool down once again. so fair skies out there for tonight. good part of your saturday features lots of sun. a few high cloud that advance during the afternoon hours. then later tomorrow night best shot of a couple showers will be in western new hampshire and then during the predawn hours elsewhere here's that chance of a few showers sunday morning. but the system, it's a quick mover, out of here by late

developing sun for the afternoon. along with a milder temperature. tomorrow temperatures go to the low to mid 50's. there's a look at future cast as we advance into sunday night and monday, notice the remnant of patricia hanging around the gulf, well, some of that rain could approach here sometime later wednesday night or thursday of next week. we're not talking about any flooding concern at this point, but we could get some beneficial rain out of that system, even though it's approaching western mexico at this time. low 60's on sunday. dry and cool monday and tuesday, then it starts to warm up as rain approaches. best timetable on that wednesday night into thursday. josh: wow, that storm is a beast. jean: mazing to watch, thanks, mike. the nutrition chain gnc is being sued, the state attorney general says the company lied when it sold fitness supplements called all natural. josh: and the suspended police

growing by 2% a year over the course of the last 20 years. and our dry summer is likely a big reason for a mild lyme disease season. new hampshire has seen about 10% fewer cases this year compared to 2014. maine and vert also reported drops, that comes a year after maine set a record. biologists say that ticks are less active in dry weather. jean: a lawsuit filed today against nutrition super store gnc claims the company was buying by sell supplements spikedded with synthetic drugs, but tiding that they're all natural. t.j. holmes has the details. reporter: this morning gnc hit with a major lawsuit accused of knowingly selling fitness supplements advertised as all natural that were actually spiked with synthetic drugs. the attorney general going after gnc for allegedly misrepresenting 22 workout and fat burner supplements stating some contained two synthetic

in russia used to treat neurological conditions, and another one similar to amphetamine, associated with certain times of strokes. the attorney general also claiming gnc knew both products were considered unlawful dietary supplements. gnc has come under scrutiny before. in march the company agreed to tricker testing of its herbal supplements after a new york attorney general investigation revealed some of them didn't actually contain any of the herbs on the label. >> companies that manufacture or sell herbal supplements have a responsibility to make sure their products contain every ingredient that's on the label and do not include ingredients that are not on the label. reporter: but this time the largest retailer in the industry is fighting back, telling abc news overnight the oregon attorney general's accusations are without merit and in response to f.d.a. statements

jean: embattled canterbury police chief john laroche has been indicted on 10 charges accusing him of sexually assaulting an under gauge girl. i'm jean mackin. josh: i'm josh mcelveen. laroche remains on unpaid leave. mike cronin joins us with new details. reporter: laroche was arrested in august, but is now charged with seven felonies each of them punishable by 10 to 20 years in state prison. the indictment says that the alleged victim did not give consent. laroche has pleaded not guilty. suspended canterbury police chief john laroche faces new charges after he was indicted by a grand jury. he's accused of assaulting a teen-age girl more than 15 years ago. laroche is now charged with six count of aggravated felonious sexual assault, one count of attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault and three misdemeanors.

part of the legal process and not a big surprise on our part. reporter: a canterbury police sergeant is currently rung the department's day-to-day operations. >> nothing has changed as far as status of the police chief, he's still on unpaid administrative leave. reporter: court documents say the assaults happened between january 1999 and august of 2000 when the girl was 16 to 17 years old. laroche was a boscawen police officer at the time and supervised the department's explorer program where teenagers learn what it takes to be a police officer. according to the indictment, laroche assaulted the alleged victim in a police cruiser at the boscawen police department and at the town's boat ramp. court documents say the 44-year-old used his position of authority to coerce her to submit. she spoke up to boscawen police last year. for now canterbury town leaders say they won't make any yor staffing changes. >> at this stage of the game we have to wait for the outcome of

the process and the indictment is the next step, it's not it a conviction. when and if something changes then we'll advise our citizenry. reporter: officials say no one has raised concerns about laroche. >> to my knowledge we've had no questions from anyone in town. reporter: laroches attorney says an indictment is just an accusation and he asks people not to make any judgments until the evidence is presented. eat be arained on the new carriages on november 18. mike cronin, wmur news 9. jean: new hampshire state police arrestedded a woman wanted for more than a decade after her car broke down on the interstate. today she faced a judge in manchester. ray brewer has more on what she was wanted for and where she'll be returning to face the charges. reporter: andrea erceg is wanted in pennsylvania, the original warrant said they would only extradite from surrounding states, but new hampshire state police have contacted the district attorney's office in mercers county and they say they

want erceg back. after 12 years on the run, andrea erceg agreed to go back to pennsylvania where she's charged with burglary, retail theft. the judge asking her if she wanted to challenge extradition. >> if it going to happen it going to happen. reporter: she was arrested thursday afternoon as she was heading up 93 north by exit 8. >> we observed her vehicle traveling approximately 30 miles per hour. we believe she was having some mechanical difficulties, she was pulled over for the concern of the public, there were several her. reporter: she was the old one in trooper. a record check turned up the arrest want for mercer county in taken into custody. the trooper says this arrest highlights the dangers of a traffic stop. >> it always a concern stopping these vehicles who we're deal with, we never know. no car stop is routine. reporter: pennsylvania authorities have until november 3 to come and get erceg, if they don't another hearing will be had held and she

in manchester, ray brewer, wmur news 9. jean: a rochester middle school student has been suspended for bringing a bee-bee gun to school on thursday. the school superintendent says a fellow students alerted administration. a bee-bee gun was found after a search of the student's locker. a letter went home to parents, school officials say there was no safety threat. >> the great news is that students are telling us when there's concern, so we want to make sure that happens and the research shows that's how we're safest is students telling administrators and we'll check on things. jean: there will be a hearing with the school board discipline committee to determine how long the student should be suspended. josh: 17 connecticut schools on lockdown this morning because of a bomb threat. police say a man called fairfield schools at 9:00 a.m. stating he had gilled his girlfriend and was on the highway with a pipe bomb. then three schools received threats rerchtses pipe bombs.

schools were dismissed at noon after they couldn't find anything. jean: a driver and dog died in a fiery crash in newport last night. police say a car went off john stark highway, hit a tree and burst into flames. a second dog in the car survived and was taken to a veterinarian for treatment. the road was shut down for three hours while the accident reconstruction team investigated. the driver's name has not been released. josh: a claremont man can thank two strangers for saving him from a burning car, the maryland couple saw him on interstate 91 near springfield, vermont. they noticed flames coming from under the hood and heard him calling for help. farn ham couldn't unlock the doors or roll down the windows, so the maryland man broke a back window and pulled farnham to safety. jean: the tipster who raised questions about one of the aaron hernandez jurors was questioned in courts today. the former patriots player convicted in the murder of odin

jean: 10 victims of former subway spokesman jared fogle have received a total of $1 million in restitution since he agreed to plead guilty to child sex charges. an assistant u.s. attorney says each received a $100,000 check. four other victims will get checks by the time fogle is sentenced next month. the payments are part of his plea deal where fogle will admit to child pornography and sex crime charges. josh: mcdonald's sales increased this quarter, ending a two-year streak of quarterly declines. fewer people actually visited the fast food chain, but customers are spending more money. mcdonald's recently changed some of its food prep and added all day breakfast in hopes of bringing the customers back. jean: a new public-private partnership is designed to address crimes related to bitcoin. the virtual currency has been gaining popularity among businesses and regulators.

until 8:00 p.m. jean: in this week's viewers choice we asked you to tell us which haunted houses are the best in new hampshire. there was a two-way tie for fourth. the fright fest in newton and mike has tested a lot of these for haunted thursdays. and the null one haunted house in the granite state, according to our viewers, it is fright kingdom in nashua. mike: yes, i have been to many of those, they are awe scary places, you won't be disappointed in any of them. weather wise out there a beautiful start to the weekend, if you like that cool crisp start to the season. well, we've got that out there with temperatures well below where they were yesterday. notice the sun getting very low the the sky, just about to set. out there in dublin. so we do have clear skies, but temperatures are already falling

had earlier today. notice up there in pittsburgh, the clouds are in, and it's been a struggle to find a lot of sun today, but eventually the clouds will move out giving way to clearing tonight and even across the great north woods a fair amount of sunshine to kick off the weekend on your saturday. there are changes coming in through the great lakes, that's the next system that we'll be tracking as we go into early sunday morning. so a cold start to the weekend, 20's for many tonight, a few low 30's in downtown manchester and along the coast, but elsewhere well below freezing with patchy fog and widespread frost. bright and cool for your saturday before it warms up with scattered showers on sunday. a dry, cool start to next week. the next shot of some rain comes in later wednesday into thursday. across the board right now it's chilly across the great north woods into the heart of the white mountains, upper 30's to around 40, just a little above that points south and southeast. several degrees below average for this time of year, but factor in today and yesterday and it all balances out.

it was 70 plus in many spots south of concord during the day on thursday. right now we're tracking low temperatures that will dip as low as 20 or 21 in the great north woods by early tomorrow morning. to as high as 35 at the coast. now, there is a sill surge of spring warmth trying to build in towards new england. that will arrive later saturday night into sunday. but it will be accompanied by quite a few clouds, so instead of getting into the 70's, lower to possibly mid 60's not out of the question for the second half of the weekend. right now nice and quiet. winds have been fairly busy a good part of the day. they'll shut down later tonight under clear skies with clearing where the clouds are holding tough in the north country. lots of sun for the day tomorrow. a few high clouds build in later in the afternoon. here comes that chance of a few showers creeping in towards early sunday morning through about midday. once we get past that time frame, it clears out to some partial sun and temperatures nice and mild. as for the highs tomorrow, they'll run basically in the 50's statewide. but in the lower half of the

advance into the sunday -- into the day on sunday. once we get into the afternoon stretch we'll see a bit of partial sun of that will again get those temperatures at least at or above the norm. low to mid 50's far north,. clear skies in a good part of the state tonight. to the north and west, cloud will give way to clearing, and frosty cold later on. a sunny and cool saturday. winds not as strong as today. a couple of showers on sunday morning, before it dries out in the afternoon. nice quiet early next week. some of that rain later wednesday into thursday indirectly tied in with that powerful monster hurricane that's ready to hit western mexico. we'll talk more about patricia at 6:00. josh: thanks. jean: thanks, mike. the state's largest auto show shifted into high gear today. josh: the new hampshire auto show opened to the public today at noon, cars of all makes and
