now wmur "news 9 daybreak." sean: it is monday, the last week of october. thanks for waking up with us. yesterday we started off cloudy. it turned into a beautiful night. kevin: we had the clear skies in a lot of areas. temperatures today will run about ten degrees cooler than the highs yesterday. it should come with partly to mostly sunny skies and a light breeze. it should feel good. we're expecting a good deal of sunshine. that's our next system moving in on wednesday. looks like the rainfall could be heavy. temperatures in the 30's and 40's early, climbing into the 40's to lower 50's with sunshine and light winds. we'll talk about the next system and where temperatures go from there. let's look at your monday morning ride right here in the granite state. good morning, deb. deb: good morning, kevin.

classmates celebrated her live. ray: eve tarmey's classmates planned the candle light vigil to help people grieve and remember the 17-year-old. tarmey was found dead last weekend in a rochester motel room where she was staying with her mother and mother's boyfriend. her death is being investigated as a possible drug overdose. more than 100 people gathered to honor her life and the impact she said along with sharing her memories of eve. >> she would always help people. she was really sweet. she was a beautiful person inside and out. >> she was such an outgoing and great girl to be around. we had dreams of being fashion designers together and starting our own business. it is nice to have that memory with her, you know. ray: several classmates say graduation in the spring will be difficult when eve isn't there to walk across the stage with them.

they are waiting for toxicology results to determine the exact cause of her death. sean: thanks. officials want to know who caused a lot of damage to the building this weekend. someone broke windows, painted graffiti and sprayed the inside with a fire extinguisher. league officials say despite the damage, they will be ready for the 2016 season. the team from bedford made it all the way to the new england regional championship game in this year's tournament. a londonderry woman is dead and another in the hospital after a crash on interstate 93 in windham. a car rolled over and ended up on its roof early yesterday morning. 20-year-old suzanne darcy was pronounced dead at the hospital. 22-year-old kelsey lenfest was taken to portsmouth regional hospital. the cause is under investigation. a truck driver said a mechanical problem caused him to lose

control as he tried to pull over in i-95 last night. his big rig went over an embankment and into the trees. two lanes were closed. the driver walked away. crews removed the truck. texans learned their lessons and were prepared for flash floods. the storm is still causing problems with nearly two feet of rain in one town just since thursday. bazi kanani reports. >> the lone star state drenched up. up to 20 inches of rain falling in texas. emergency crews going in with boats and humvees to reach stranded residents. a close call for more than 70 rescued south of dallas. this man and their dog pulled from the flooded truck. another man stuck when he waited in to find the submerged vehicle. >> i watched my car

killing his son is due in court. eugene martineau was charged with murder after his son was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. the boy and his sister were both born premature she remains hospitalized. her condition is not related to the boy's death. a crowd took part in the making strides against breast cancer walk. the goal was to raise more than $260,000 and attract more than 1,600 walkers. this event continues to grow. >> we have a couple of people that have just jumped on board to be event chair next year. we're looking forward to become bigger and bigger and bigger. sean: they continue to grow. the money raised to go to the american cancer safety to help find a cure for breast cancer and support programs and services as well. dozens of people took a few laps around the

not quite as chilly as what we had last week. we're going to look for cooler temperatures with almost complete sunshine today and tomorrow. details on the midweek system and chances of heavier rain coming up. sean: chilly start up north. halloween is still a few days away. one boy from rollinsford finished his trick or treating and got the night to himself. 10-year-old levi is battling brain cancer and will be recovering by the time the weekend rolls around. his teachers organized a special trick or treating event for little captain america with neighbors handing out his favorite treats. >> it made me very excited. i know what i went through last year when i went through chemotherapy. this is big to give something back. >> you see my hair?

a migrant toddler. they found the boy last wednesday along with a dozen others after the boat capsized. the child was barely responsive. the fisherman cleared the water from his lungs and warmed him up. the boy is back to normal. incredible story. police say a woman that drove her car into the crowd over the weekend is due in court this morning. 25-year-old adacia chambers is charged with four counts of second degree murder and driving under the influence. four people died and dozens more were hurt. chambers lawyer believes she suffers from a mental illness but wasn't drinking before the crash. they ended their frost issue black bear hunt because the kill rate was faster than expected and almost to the official limit. they suggest the bear population is bigger than they thought after plunging to just a few hundred in the 1970's.

the hunt was just approved after a contentious debate. it was a slow weekend at the box office with new releases failing to impress movie goers out there. instead after four weeks on the big screen, "the martian" reclaimed the top spot. "goosebumps" was a close second. "gem and the holograms" had one of the worst debuts with $1.3 million. people weren't interested, i guess. even "steve jobs" couldn't attract jobs. the biopick made $7.3 million, less than half of what had been predicted. general motors and the union have reached an agreement avoiding a strike. the deal was announced before the mid night deadline. exact details have not yet been released. local union leaders will vote on wednesday before

workers at gm plants weigh in. the contract covers 53,000 employees. president obama says too many schools obsess about testing and students spend too much time taking unnecessary exams. according to new numbers, students spent 20 to 25 hours each year. the white house wants to cap the standardized testing time at 2% of classroom time. right now the average eighth graders spends 2.3% on testing. a meeting is scheduled in the oval office today to discuss options. ski season is right around the corner. many ski areas say the business is surging without snow thanks to things like zip lines, mountain coasters, bike trails, weddings, festivals. loon mountain says revenue for the summer and fall was up 3% from a year ago. ken mountains aerial tram way was up 12%. bike rentals up 24% this summer.

you found out first hand about these things taking the zip line there at gunstock. i should say taking. you observed the zipline. >> yes. even the bike ride made me queazy. you get to a point are they rooting against the snow? sean: i'm sure that's not the case. there's lots to do. >> we start off this morning. you notice a live look in portsmouth. clear skies. temperatures have dropped back into the 40's there. there are a lot of 30's farther west and north. not a bad start to the day. we have a little bit of fog out there in a few spots this morning. we're going to be looking at a good deal of sunshine into the afternoon with temperatures today making their way back into the 40's to lower range of the 50's. it comes with just about full sunshine for us today. a light wind out of the northwest which will only go at around five miles an hour into the afternoon. mostly sunny skies tomorrow. then the clouds start to increase. the rainfall starts to push in on wednesday.

i think we start dry wednesday and end on the wet side. temperatures in the 30's to lower 40's early this morning. note the 16 on top of mt. washington. wind chill at 11 below zero. eventually the winds start to turn more southerly. we'll see a couple of notches warmer tomorrow with highs in the mid 40's to mid 50's ahead of the next system that arrives with milder air. mid 40's in the north country today. lower half of the 50's from the lakes region south. we'll with looking for a light wind today out of the northwest around five to ten miles into the afternoon. you'll notice we're expecting mostly sunny skies today. mostly sunny skies out there tomorrow. the high clouds ahead of the next system approaching start to drift in tomorrow night. it won't be quite as chilly tomorrow evening. rainfall on the doorstep. likely clouds thickening in the morning. once that starts,

after that anywhere after lunchtime could be heavy at times into the afternoon or even into the evening on wednesday before we end with some showers early thursday. looks like we'll have some milder air before the cooler air arrives on thursday afternoon behind the system. there could be the potential of over two inches of rainfall in a few spots out of this. it will be a fairly quick mover exiting to the northeast on thursday evening. that's it as far as weather systems through the end of the week. high temperatures today besting 50 degrees in state. we'll be in the mid to upper 40's up north. light wind and sunshine will make it feel good. tonight we ease back into the 30's. a lot of 20's farther west and up north with mostly clear skies and a light wind. more sunshine around tomorrow. the first couple of days this week feeling very autumn-like. then we start to increase the temperatures on a southeast wind. the rainfall develops either side of midday. it becomes heavy into the evening before ending showers on thursday. it will be turning

celebrate a life cut short. more than 100 people came together sunday night to say good-bye. >> it is hard to believe. i was talking to her just two weeks ago. all of the sudden it just happens. it's shocking. ray: a candle light vigil was held for the 17-year-old who died more than a week ago in a hotel room. police are investigating her death as a possible drug overdose. eve was a senior at spaulding high school. >> she would always help people. she was so sweet. she was a beautiful person inside and out. >> she was such an outgoing and great girl to be around. we had dreams of being fashion designers together. it is just nice to have that memory with her, you know. >> for me it is personal. i know eve's father. i don't know eve. she's a child. she's part of the community. ray: police haven't released the official cause, friends say the

drug crisis is getting worse and something needs to change. >> the greater hope is that we can start to have better facilities and more treatment for people in this community. ray: eve's classmates are trying to cope with the fact she will not be there when we graduate. >> i wish she was walking across the stage with us this year. it is really a tragedy. ray: right now police say there are no new developments in the investigation into eve's death. they are awaiting toxicology results. live in the newsroom, ray brewer. sean: thanks. a franklin father accused of holding his one-month-old baby hostage is scheduled to face a judge today. thomas carroll is expected to be arraigned on charges including resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child. carroll was arrested on friday when officers went to a home on west bow street for a complaint of domestic violence. carroll assaulted his wife and took their one month old baby hostage barricading himself in the home. detectives were able to negotiate their ware

inside. they arrested carroll after a brief struggle. two manchester men are accused of producing methamphetamine at a hotel in burlington, massachusetts. eric sowmick and 52-year-old tony pickard are charged with possession of meth following a dust. dustin beliveau was also arrested. they found a large quality of meth. hotel employees alerted them after seeing beliveau walk into a room carrying a container of paint thinner. another employee reported seeing him wear a gas mask. all three suspects are scheduled to be arraigned today. a massachusetts woman narrow le escaped injury when her house suddenly exploded. the explosion happened yesterday afternoon at a home in taunton. the blast and fire that followed leveled the home. neighbors as far away as a block say the explosion was so powerful it caused their homes to shake. the home owner was inside at the time. she managed to safely

we are following some breaking news right now out of afghanistan. a powerful earthquake rocked the country. there's no word yet on the full extent of damage from the 7.7 magnitude quake. no word yet whether anyone was killed. we'll keep you updated on the situation. an earthquake overthere this morning. at least five people were killed when a whale watching boat sank off of the coast on sunday. authorities say one person remains missing now. 27 people were on board when it made a may day call. the boat was partially submerged. they were able to pull 21 people to safety. officials say they don't know yet what caused the boat to sink. a shooting at north carolina central university sent one student to the hospital last night. the school says the victims suffered non-life threatening injuries. a university spokeswoman investigating. so far no arrests have been made.

airstrikes have destroyed the jail in northern iraq where dozens of hostages were freed last week. they worked together on the mission. one u.s. soldier was killed in the raid. newly released video shows the moments when trooped moved in for the jailbreak. the mission marks the first time that u.s. soldiers engaged isis fighters on the ground since the u.s. sent troops into the country last year. a man in washington state is trying to track down at the thief who stole his pricey star wars collection. he turned home last week to find $30 worth of star wars collectibles missing from his shelves. fortunately the thief did not take all of his memorabilia. he still has $15,000. >> thank god they left a lot of stuff. it is a mint condition millennium falcon. this sounds corny. when i get home, i like

from the chase. he's talking about next season already. there are a few bacon eaters out there. processed meats are just as big of cancer threat as cigarettes. they are publishing the report on the dangering meat. it is expected to list it it as a canner-causing substance. the world cancer research fund has warned for years that consuming too many processed meat is linked to bowel cancer. according to studies, black cats can bring bad luck when they cross your path. 46% of people who say they owned a black cat have won a contest or lottery compared to 40% of people who never owned a black cat.

over two inches of rain. for now, we have the clear skies and fairly quiet start to the day. it will be a light wind we have out there. high temperatures from the mid 40's to mid 50's. there's the next system. it is all producing extremely heavy rain through texas and flooding there and along the gulf coast. while that continues to lift north, it will gain speed. we won't quite see the numbers that they have been seeing down there as far as rainfall amounts. there could be one to two inches plus of rainfall. you can see a lot of areas settling back this morning. lower 40's at manchester boston regional i want. a lot of 30's on the map this is morning. temperatures settling back with the clear skies and light winds as we continue to cool off after a milder afternoon out there yesterday. sunshine today. should get us back into the mid 40's to mid 50's into the afternoon. a light wind out of the northwest. upper 40's to near 50. low and mid 50's elsewhere up to the foothills.

as you get to the other side of the white mountains, it looks like 40's is a likely possibility with the sunshine out there and just a few clouds around the mountains later on. tonight temperatures ease back into the 20's up north. kind of a seasonal night out there with mostly clear skies. tomorrow good deal of sunshine yet again. temperatures may be just a couple of degrees warmer than today with a fairly light wind yet again. you'll notice the clouds start to increase and thicken up on wednesday morning. you'll notice the shower activity starting to come in. anything that we see develop after early to mid afternoon on wednesday will turn heavy wednesday night before pulling away as scattered showers early on thursday. once it goes by, we get one mild afternoon thursday before we start to cool off friday into next weekend. so temperatures starting the day in the 20's and 30's. we get back into the mid 40's to mid 50's through the afternoon. as you'll notice, just a
