sean: now at noon, a serious crash in portsmouth. a tractor trailer and compact car collide, forcing a road to be shut down. nearly two dozen people are without a place to live because of an overnight fire that every engine in manchester responded to. kevin: cooler air coming in on a breeze this afternoon, how that sets us up for the halloween weekend ahead. sean: heroes and villains are taking over the granite state for an epic battle. we take you behind the scenes at marvel universe live. sean: we begin this noon with a [captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] >> no one covers new hampshire like we do.

sean: and we do begin this noon with a developing situation out of portsmouth. right now, ocean road is closed because of a serious crash involving a tractor trailer a small car. good afternoon, everybody. thanks for joining us. i' m sean mcdonald. let' s get right to wmur' s jennifer crompton with the latest from portsmouth. jennifer: a serious accident has shut down ocean road in portsmouth. it happened at about 10:00 this morning. a red chevy somehow jammed under the bed of a tractor trailer from a building materials supplier. to the hospital. not clear the extent of his injuries. the tractor-trailer driver was not injured. state police are on scene assisting local with accident reconstruction. ocean road will be closed for at least the next few hours. police are asking drivers to avoid the area. in portsmouth, jennifer crompton, wmur news 9.

morning crash in franklin. fire officials say a compact car and suv clashed head on in the middle of the roadway near south main street. officials say the driver of a compact car was severely trapped. rescue crews worked to extricate the driver for nearly an hour. the driver was med-flighted to the hospital with several serious injuries. the driver of the suv was also injured, but those were minor. the cause of the crash is now under investigation. there is also a crash on 93 north under investigation this it involved an unmarked state the accident happened in northfield shortly after 8:00 a.m. while the state police air craft unit was conducting speed during that time, a parked state police cruiser was struck from car. according to police, the car attempted to get off at exit 19 but then veered back onto 93, hitting the cruiser. lt. ferry: when they are conducting operations in the zone, there is signage that is set up, warning traffic ahead

so we are asking the motoring public to be cognizant of that as they are travelling north bound. sean: both the trooper and the driver were taken to the hospital and are expected to recover. 20 people are homeless this afternoon after an early morning fire in manchester. the fire swept through the three-story apartment house, trapping some people inside, until firefighters were able to lead them to safety. firefighters were also worried about the fire spreading to neighboring apartment buildings. ray brewer is live outside the apartment house, and ray, do they know how this fire started? ray: we have just learned, sean, that the fire started in the third floor porch, and it was caused by careless disposal of smoking materials. this video shot by the first arriving officers shows what they were dealing with when they arrived at clifford avenue in manchester. chief gamache: the rear of the building the porches on the second and third floor were fully involved fire extending above the roof. ray: the fire was reported just before 1:00. kristy seibert lives in the building and says she heard an explosion. kristy it was loud it shook the

house. ray: then went to her door. kristy: i could see flames dripping down like a waterfall, and i just heard a bunch of people screaming, and i could smell the smoke, so i had to go and wake up my husband and my son who were sleeping and get them out as soon as possible. ray: there were 20 people inside the six-unit apartment house at the time, 14 adults and six children. firefighters did have to help some people get out. >> smoke was hindering people' s escape through the common areas. ray: everyone made it out, although one person was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. as the fire continued, a third alarm was sounded. >> every fire truck in the city of manchester was on the scene here, including all off duty personnel. ray: the district chief says this was a very labor intensive fire as they had several major concerns they had to deal with simultaneously. >> buildings in close proximity and in a very large building, people still trapped, animals still trapped, so it was very

labor intensive for the initial stages of the fire. ray: fortunately, firefighters were able to rescue the people and animals and keep the fire from spreading to surrounding buildings. the damage to this building is put at approximately $100,000. as for the people displaced, well, the red cross is assisting many of them. reporting live in manchester, ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: all right, ray, thanks. we have an update on the condition of the mount vernon man seriously burned last june in a water park explosion in taiwan. the mother of alex haas says he cannot lift his left foot at all and will need several more surgeries. over 90% of haas' body was burned in the explosion. although full recovery will take some time, his mother says he still has a wonderful attitude and thanks the community for all their support. a prisoner who walked away from a transitional housing center in concord four weeks ago has been caught. 21-year-old adam bergeron was tracked to to a home in haverhill, massachusetts wednesday where he was arrested as he arrived. he was serving time for a burglary in pelham back in 2013 and was recently eligible for parole, but that had not been

he will now face escape charges. s a beautiful cool and breezy day and we' re expecting a sweet night of weather for trick or treaters. kevin: as we get to around sunset, as we watch the breeze day down, we are looking into burger in the 40' s to even50' s as the winds start to die off. you will notice quite a few more clouds up north. sets up a good deal of sunshine as we kick off the weekend only to see more clouds start to build and saturday evening. that may start to serve temperatures up fights and we get to trick-or-treating tomorrow evening. we will have the details on the in any showers as along with another warm up in the forecast running up just a veteran -- it just a bit. sean: all right, sounds good. halloween is tomorrow, but some

sean: developing now, the u.s. is set to deploy troops on the ground in syria to help rebel forces combating isis. the u.s. will deploy fewer than 50 special operations forces to kurdish-controlled territory in northern syria. the american troops will help kurdish and arab forces fighting isis with logistics and are planning to bolster their efforts. after a rare early morning vote, budget deal, sending it over to president obama. this means that government will paid for the next two years. it also raises the borrowing limit through early 2017. cruz and rand paul, protested the agreement leaving the campaign trial to rail against it in washington. now to that scary disaster averted on a flight in florida.

plane heading to venezuela when it burst into flames moments before takeoff. nearly two dozen people are abc' s marci gonzalez has more. marci: today, the ntsb on the scene, investigating this scare >> engine' engine' marci: passengers sliding down the emergency chutes frantically poured out of the other side of daniela magro: i was freaking out. i was terrified at what was going on. marci: the dynamic airways flight was about to take off from fort lauderdale to venezuela thursday when another pilot first spotted a fuel leak. >> do you copy? >> yes, sir, we copy. marci: that fuel quickly igniting. david magro: in the window, it' s like flames all over the turbine of the plane. marci: all 101 people on board escaping, but more than 20 were hurt.

>> now, meteorologist kevin skarupa with your stormwatch 9 forecast. kevin: the last 36 hours, we have seen huge temperature swings across the area, and it continues of the cooler air feeds in the northwesterly wind, was has been gusting 20, 25, even near 30 miles an hour. the cool air shuttles in, makes for a beautiful scene out there. central and southern areas, a new fairweather clouds, and the central and southern areas. furthermore hugo, thicker cloud cover, and atop mount washington, temperatures in the teens. wind chill is below zero, and obviously snowing in that direction. the bulk of the thicker cloud cover, as you would expect, northwest wind of banking up against the northern and western slopes. that is where we are seeing those clouds cured opposite effects, down slope effect creating figure clout spirit of

sean: a quick update to a story we brought you earlier -- ocean road in was smith has been reopened. if you are heading through that area. once again, ocean road in portsmouth has been reopened. make sure you wear orange heading into the woods. muzzleloader season starts tomorrow, regular season is on the 11th and runs through december 6. fish and game officials a hunting commissions should be pretty good this year. once you' re done with trick-or-treating, stores hope shopping. yes, walmart and target are both but target may be winning customers over online. the retail giant is offering free shipping on all online orders with no minimum purchase requirement between november 1 and christmas. yes, it is starting even earlier, as you are mentioning before.
