line in his wheelchair. >> no one covers new hampshire leak -- like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good morning to you. thanks for joining us today. i'm erin fehlau. sean: good morning. i'm sean mcdonald. i have a lot more calories after eating a lot of halloween candy. erin: seems like there's a lot left over. sean: it is a gorgeous weekend. kevin: this begins of holidays of all of the eating and thanksgiving and christmas and christmas eve. thus it begins. we start off this morning. we have a fairly quiet start to the day. the exception is the north country. clouds. there will be the risk morning. winds on top of mt. washington early on. you are going to notice as we organize our way through the day a good deal for sunshine and central areas. up north, the clouds keeping temperatures up over night will slow the temperature climb through the day into the lower half of the 50's. upper 50's and lower 60's in central areas.

malnourished and laying on railroad tracks in claremont. erin: she weighs half of what is considered healthy. she's getting the care she needs. ray: hope was find by someone walking their dog. she was abandoned, starving, and cold. she was under care now. she's between one and four years old and has had puppies in the past. she weighs just 27 pounds and can barely walk on her own. she only just started drinking water on her own. police are aware of the situation. it is unclear if the dog was abuse or neglected. animal shelter officials say they believe someone left her to die. >> i mean the person is out there that did this. please man up. there's no excuse for this. they obviously need help themselves. >> she's still going to be needing special diets for a long time.

she's going to need things like massage therapy, and that's not cheap. ray: police are asking anyone with information to call. they have set up a go fund me page. care will likely last for months. if you would like to help or make a donation, visit the store. ray brewer,wmur news 9. erin: police are looking for whoever broke into a kennel and stole three puppies. the owner of the kennel showed up a few minutes after the alarm went off and found the back door open. they didn't notice anything missing until the next morning. store employees say three people had asked specifically about the puppies. now they have concerned. >> the most important thing at this point is that the puppies get taken care of. they do need additional shots and certain food. erin: the puppies are all microshipped.

make it easier to track them down. sean: a man is in the hospital after crashing his atv. 44-year-old gerard demers was riding in mills field when he wednesday all of the road and crashed. he's still in the hospital. he has been charged with oui. speed, alcohol, and driving after dark were all factors. in dunbar ton someone stole several expensive tools yesterday morning. they have evidence showing that the theft took place just before 4:30 at a home on clinton street. anyone who saw anyone or anything suspicious in the area is asked to call police right away. voters in ten cities across the state will head to the polls tomorrow to elect mayors. you can see in each city with seats up for grabs on the map right here, including the largest city where ted gastas is running against joyce craig. to learn more about the

erin: what a great team. coach jeff hunt says the players were just as proud to be part of the moment as his own players were. just a special moment. sean: great to see that. hats off to all of the players. today is a national day of mourning in russia after a passenger jet crashed over the weekend people. we are learning new details about what happened. erin: officials think they have found the wreckage of the cargo ship that sank during hurricane joaquin. it could be weeks before they get a closer look.

kevin: monday morning, november 2nd. temperatures in the 30's this morning. we continue to have some passing clouds in the area. we're looking at fair skies today. a pretty good breeze. temperatures well into

the 50's. details on the warming trend through most of the workweek coming up. erin: investigators say a russian jetliner that crashed over the weekend broke apart at high altitude, killing all 224 people on board. an airline official insists a technical problem could not have caused the crash. sean: this morning some of the bodies of the victims arrived in russia as that country observes a day of mourning. more on the investigation into what happened. lana: this morning the remains of more than 140 bodies are returning to grief stricken families in st. petersburg, russia. among the 224 dead, 25 children. these photos show happy families ready to make their way home from a vacation in the resort town. today they are digging deeper into the mystery of what brought down the plane 23 minutes after take off.

>> it happened so quickly there may not be any evidence. what's going to be more important is looking at the wreckage on the ground, how it is laid out. lana: with eight miles of scattered debris, one possibility is a bomb. >> the idea is something caused it. an explosion on the airplane. lana: another problem is the problem with the plane. the ex-wife says he had complained about the plane on the morning of the plane. an isis group claimed responsibility of taking down a plane. they lack the missiles. >> some of the claims we're hearing do not jive with what might have happened to the airplane. lana: terrorism from the ground is extremely unlikely according to experts, several airlines have pledged not to fly in the space

until authorities determine exactly what went wrong. lana zak, abc news, washington. erin: federal investigators believe they have found the wreckage of the cargo ship that sank during hurricane joaquin a month ago. based on sonar images, it appears the ship landed upright on the ocean floor under about 15,000 feet of water east of the bahamas. finding the data recorder could take up to two weeks using a remotely operated deep sea vehicle that will document and record the wreckage. several of the 33 people on board were from or had ties to new england. 12 minutes past 5:00 this morning. "the martian" continues to dominate. anticipation is building for a potential blockbuster.

sean: a massive leather back sea turtle that was found died. she was tangled and had a two foot section of rope in her mouth. they are one of the largest reptiles and turtles in the world. they are calling it an act of terrorism after kkk fliers were stuffed into the african-american women. they want to know if a hate group is trying to take route in the area incident. they say police should have gotten involved sooner by the dispatcher dismissed the complaint. they are calling for a rally to end hate. erin: they are still out of the world for matt damon. "the martian" took the top spot for a fourth

"goosebumps" was another close second. anticipation is building for next weekend when the new james bond movie "spectre" hits screens. they just recorded the the uk. 22 people have gotten sick with e. coli linked to washington state and oregon's most of the six people had eaten there during the last few weeks. it is likely caused by a fresh food product delivered to the restaurants. they have shut down all 43 restaurants in both states. sean: it may seem hard to believe, but you can start picking out your fresh christmas tree. early tagging starts on saturday on the south side up in gilford. the family operated farm is protected forever from development. they will donate $10 from every christmas tree sold to the lakes trust.

kevin: i don't think they did. the exception to all of this will be the north country. they have quite a few lingering clouds. it may start to break apart to sunshine. the big story is the warming trend with the warmest days being thursday and friday. looks like it will be mainly dry skies except for maybe a shower up north this morning until some showers start to creep in along the cool front that changes the temperatures that arrives on friday. there's a look at it early this morning. quite a few clouds. a west and northwest the clouds before lightening up. southern areas of the state, a few high clouds. overall along and south of the white mountains, it is main linn fair skies. no huge systems to hang our hat on until the cold front arrives on friday. some of the lower valleys down into the 30's. 40's. except in the warm country. the warm spot in whitefield at 50 degrees thanks to the clouds and higher elevation there. back farther to the west we have the warmer

temperatures. temperatures moderate through the week. by the time we get to the end of the week, temperatures in the mid to upper 60's. today it is 50's to lower range of the 60's. there will be a breeze. the numbers climb to the levels by about 2:30 this afternoon, the breeze makes it feel cooler than that. quite a few clouds up north. you'll notice those attempt to give way into the afternoon. central and southern areas, any high clouds early this morning giving way to a mostly sunny sky through the afternoon. a weak system collides across northern areas tonight. mostly clear skies for a good part of the state. temperatures will drop back into the lower 30's. we begin to be about 45 degrees warmer than today. 60's for most. 60's on wednesday and the then the winds turn to the southwest ahead of the next front that arrives thursday into friday. that should be the warmest days as temperatures climb into the mid to upper 60's and maybe a couple of

spots reaching 70 degrees by friday. highs today within a few degrees of 60. we'll have that blend of sunshine for most while we'll have some extra clouds up north and what should be a pleasant day. dropping into the 30's to lower range of the 40's later on tonight. mostly clear skies. we'll have another weak system gliding through with the chance of a shower. extended forecast from the upper 50's to mid to upper 60's. there will be a front approaching during the second half of friday or early saturday providing shower activity. you can see the temperatures starting to tumble. not a bad week. normal for the month of october. now we start off mild here for the first week of november. sean: good start to the month. erin: we want to check in with ray brewer. : claremont police seeking information about a dog that animal shelter experts say was left to die. hope was found last week by someone walking their own dog abandoned,

starving, and cold. with extreme starvation, she weighs 27 pounds, half of what she should. she's just barely able to walk and only just started drinking water on her own. erin: is man in the hospital with serious life threatening injuries after crashing his atv in northern new hampshire. fish and game officers say speed and alcohol were likely both factors. police are looking for three puppies stolen from a kennel in massachusetts. someone broke in in the middle of the night. the puppies are all microchipped. they hope they can track them down. sean: there have been incredible advances. now a 10-year-old boy has made his own

erin: the owner of a bar in salt lake city has come up with a unique way to stop customers from driving after drinking. sean: he funder the bathroom into a jail cell to remind people where they will end up if they drink and drive. the room is about the same size as a cell. there's even a prison uniform cut out on the mirror. it is part of a partnership with the utah highway patrol. there it is. the cutout. it is a good reminder. erin: stay safe. 3d printers are helping with amazing things. one boy is using it to help get a grip on life. sean: 10-year-old colin consavage was born with a defect. his hand is small and he decided to make a mechanical hand using a 3d printer at the local public library. now he can pick things up like he has never won before.

>> i actually won in arm wrestle. >> we live in a really fantastic age. it is the ultimate show and tell. >> yeah. sean: it is incredible. it took about 12 hours to print and several more to assemble all of the pieces. so far it seems to work very well. he's not letting things slow him down. i suspect he has a bright future. erin: it was a couple of hundred to do that as opposed to thousands to get a prosthetic. baseball season is over. the royals, they are on top of the baseball world. sean: growing concerns in burlington, massachusetts after vandals targeted the local islamic center again.

>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good morning to you. it is monday, november 2nd. of course, you know, we're all well rested. we have that extra hour over the weekend. sean: well rested. right. check that off of the list. it wasn't a bad weekend. it is going to be a mild week. kevin will talk about that in a moment. first the top stories. a pit bull is recovering after she was bound abandoned and starving along a set of railroad tracks in claremont. a man accused of leading police on a chase is due in court today. and people are asking for help tracking down the suspects that vandalized an islamic center. erin: we had some weekend weather for halloween. kevin: looks like things fairly comfortable. clouds up north keeping

either direction. your monday morning commute. this report is being brought to you by peter's honda, nissan, and kia of nashua. from the traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. erin: a malnourished dog is recovering after she was found lying near a set of railroad tracks in claremont. sean: hope will need several months of care. they are asking anyone for information to give them a call. ray brewer live in the studio with her story. ray: it was around 1:00 in the morning when hope was found abandoned and starving near a set of railroad tracks. right now she weighs 27 pounds. that's about half of what she should weigh. she has a long road of recovery ahead of her. hope is weak and needs help walking. this is only the third day since last week that

but despite all of it, now. >> one thing about her now, she's going to know what love is. ray: the female pit bull is under the care of kathy sullivan. hope was found in the middle of the night last week by someone walking their dog on the railroad tracks not far from sullivan's home. >> her condition when she was found, there's no way she walked there. the vet said probably another four and she would have been gone. ray: sullivan estimates hope is between one and four. she has had puppies. it is unclear how the dog ended up on the railroad track. she feels confident that someone left her to die. >> she has not eaten for quite a while. this just doesn't happen overnight. there's no way. years. that's the worst i've seen that was still alive. ray: people from claremont are pitching in to help. the hue pain society

charges. erin: attention the commuters, work on the sarah long bridge could slow you down. inspectors are working on the bridge. lane closures will take effect between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30. they are asked to seek alternative routes. sean: police in massachusetts are investigating an act of vandalism at an islamic center in bulkton. a call came in early sunday morning reporting graffiti and other damage at the center. the letter usa were stray painted on the outside of the building. this time security cameras captured two suspects getting out of a white crown victoria and putting masks on. the car. he fears the crimes could escalate. >> i am concerned about safety of the people. what would be the next? what would they do next? 200 to 300 childrens

coming on sunday classes. they are concerned and asking me questions what would they do? how can you prevent it? sean: the executive director says the group will formerly ask the fbi's boston office to conduct an inquiry into the crime. erin: the countdown is on to the new hampshire primary. it is now just 99 days away. this week the filing period opens here in the granite state. beginning wednesday, anyone that wants to be on the ballot can register. several presidential candidates will be here to file and drum up some support. >> we see this as kind of a fall, you know, sort of fall reset for the candidates. this is, you know, now the game is really on. you are registering and going to be on the ballot. it means that you are good to go as a campaign. erin: the filing period will be open until november 20th. a number of presidential candidates will be in new hampshire this week. today rand paul will host a student rally at

u.n.h. later on in the week, marco rubio and carly fiorina will come to file. sean: more than 1,000 people ran the annual manchester city marathon, half marathon, and relay. the event drew runners from 30 states. the first runner to cross the finish line was morgan kennedy of portland, maine. 32-year-old mary klene of manchester finished first for the women. another winner got a lot of attention. a 73-year-old runner from las vegas completed his 50th marathon. john maultsby has run seven marathons alone. it took him 13 years to reach his goal of running a marathon in all 50 state. he has now completed that task. erin: that's awesome. oh my goodness. sean: tired legs.

this is after the poor performance at the debate last week. speaking, representatives gathered sunday to discuss changes to the format and those who emerged called it a good meeting. >> the campaigns want a greater degree of transparency and the accountability in the way the debate process is working. there's a method to put into place to achieve that. nikole: some of the proposed changes include mandatory opening and closing statements, equal number of questions, and bypassing rnc to negotiate with the network. sean: the rnc is not part of the meeting. nikole: right before the meeting got underway, the chief of staff sent out an e-mail to most of the campaigns announcing a staff shakeup naming a new person to facilitate the process. unclear what role they will play if the

it is seen as an attempt to quell some of the dissatisfaction with the process. sean: thank you. erin: we have a traffic alert to pass along to drivers on i-93. police are on the scene of a crash on the southbound side of the highway in windham. there's no word on whether anyone was hurt. d.o.t. officials say one lane in the area is closed. be aware of that if you are heading to that area people across the country are mourning the death of former senator and actor, fred thompson. his family said he died yesterday after a recurrence of lymphoma. he served as u.s. senator forking eight years retired in 2003. thompson appeared in a dozen movies including "the hunt for red october "and "cape fear." he's only known for his

"law and order." sean: bucharest fire is expected to rise significantly. a fire broke out on a pyrotechnics show. there was a stampede. one doctor said the number of deaths could double due to the amount of people who suffered severe burns. erin: an incident in pennsylvania is serving as a reminder to check your kids halloween candy. they found sewing needles in five twix bars. the kids who got them went trick or treating together. they haven't been able to pin point where it came from. none of them were ingested. sean: people fear for their safety in america more than living in sudan.

reported being victims of crime. 26% say they do not feel safe walking alone at night, a rate higher in egypt, sudan, and bangladesh. erin: in sports, the kansas city royals are waking up as world series champions. the team rallied in the minute when eric hosmer came home. the royals finally broke away in the 12th to beat the mets 7-2. ned yost said he never doubted his team would win the title. >> from day one there was no doubt they wouldn't accomplish it. there was no doubt in their mind they wouldn't accomplish it. the cool thing about the team is everything they set out to accomplish they did. erin: royals catcher was voted the most valuable player of the world series.

sean: the celtics were at td garden. the spurs were up 17-9 in the first quarter opinion manu ginobli passed for the inside layup. san antonio hung on to its lead and went on to win the game 95-87. erin: nascar drivers took part in race number seven yesterday with less than 50 laps to go. joey logano was in the lead. matt kenseth decided to change that. he wrecked 22 preventing him from winning the fourth straight race. he took over the lead and was able to hold off jamie mcmurray to win for the 93rd time in his career. sean: today we are bringing back our granite state made series. each monday we'll show you some of the many unique products made

here in new hampshire. we're kicking things off to a bakery with a special mission. peace of mind is a gluten free, vegan bakery. she started the business from her home kitchen seven years ago for a very good reason. she suffers from celiac and chron's disease. her daughter suffering from an alerly to dairy. >> i'm going to be feeding this to my kid. i want them to grow healthy and strong. sean: nancy started by making gluten free vegan muffins. soon after she began making pizza crust. she approached flat bread about carrying her crust. flat bread was like, yes, get us samples,

you'll notice temperatures in the 40's across a good part of state. sprinkled in between here a couple of mid and upper 30's this morning. gets more numerous up into the central parts of the state. then you get to the over side of the white mountains. temperatures in the 40's to near 50 degrees this morning. as we go through the day today, we're talking temperatures ranging from the lower 50's up north. of course not much of a temperature climb there. we'll be up into the lower range of the 60's into central and southern new hampshire. we're going to continue to see a breeze today which at times will be hour. the occasional clouds drifting through. beyond that, fair skies for the afternoon. with clear skies, we drop back into the 30's to near 40 degrees. things should be relatively quiet through a good part of the week. light and out of the northwest. on wednesday, it will be light out of the south. temperatures may slip back by a degree or two

the cooler ocean water. then eventually wind starts to turn more southwest ahead of the front. the off shore breeze provides the warmest temperatures. temperatures in the 60's to maybe near 70 degrees on friday afternoon. ahead of the front that comes through with a chance of a shower. that doesn't look like a huge system for us as it stands now. it is just the bigger story out of that will be the temperature drop that comes in behind it after a fairly mild week. temperatures up into the 60's for a good part of we should be either side of 60 in southern parts of the state today. another four or five afternoon. from there, temperatures will remain in the 60's all the way through the end of the week. friday. we'll have quite a few clouds around. as we get our way into the weekend, beyond the front a breeze picks up on saturday. temperatures by sunday fall back to the 40's to lower range of the 50's. at or above normal through a good part of the week. sean: we're falling back yet again.
