erin: good morning and thanks for joining us. m erin fehlau. sean: good morning. i' m sean mcdonald. we' ve got to talk about the weather yesterday. i was out playing tennis of all things yesterday. it did not feel like november. kevin: you continue to stretch this out a few more days and at some point you say, this does not feel, look, act normal. we start off with a little bit of patchy fog this morning, otherwise we are going to have a good deal of sunshine across the area. a lighter breeze through the afternoon. highs in the 60' s will feel like it. we will have much more as we look toward the weekend and the big changes coming in a bit. let' s take a look at your morning drive.

very soon after neighbors reported hearing gunshots. police aren' t saying much at this point, right? ray: not saying anything at all, sean, as a matter of fact. there are police cruisers at the scene on granite street. i saw an investigator in the alley there. police rushed to 472 granite street last night after witnesses say they heard several gunshot. police blocked off granite street for several hours working late into the night gathering information. the attorney general' s office is also involved in the investigation. officials have not released any details. >> on my porch about a block away and then i suddenly heard about 5-6 gunshots. >> i was in my house with my two kids and i heard six gunshots right in a row, no stopping.

that was pretty much it until the sirens. it was loud. ray: investigators with the ag' s office say they will release information, but it is unclear when that update will happen. reporting live in manchester, ray brewer. erin: an autopsy is planned for today on a body found following a fire in swansea. firefighters were called to 209 carlton road yesterday morning. the fire marshal' s office says the owner of the home had died on monday, the day before the fire, and the body was still inside. that person' s name has not been released. it is not clear what caused the flames. sean: manchester mayor ted gatsas has won a fourth term leading new hampshire' s largest city. his margin of victory is so narrow that top democrats expect

with nearly 20,000 ballots cast, he beat democratic challenger joyce craig by just 75 votes. it was clear early on the results were going to be close. with high voter turnout, they watch the results closely. craig is not conceding it. >> i will make a decision in the next couple days. >> i' m very humbled by the people who are sending me back for another two years. sean: 10 cities health mayoral elections yesterday. in concord, incumbent jim bouley easily won another term. in berlin, incumbent paul brenier won another term. in dover, mayor karen weston is returning for another term. for complete results from the

we have posted all of the information we have received. erin: voters in the city of portland, maine rejected a proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour. the city council had already improved -- approved raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour. presidential candidates can officially filed for the primary election in new hampshire starting today. at least two are not wasting any time. martin o' malley is scheduled to file this morning at 8:00. donald trump will file his paperwork at 10:00 this morning. you can watch live at wmur.com every time one of the candidates files. several other candidates are in new hampshire today to campaign. jeb bush, marco rubio, and lindsey graham all have multiple stops scheduled. sean: exeter police are investigating the third deadly heroin overdose in that

21-year-old jordan welch was found unconscious inside a camper on monday and died at the hospital. with this serious drug issue facing our state, the executive council will vote on governor maggie hassan' s requests that lawmakers return to concord for a special legislative session to focus only on heroin and opioid and the crisis. the governor wants to put criminal penalties for the sale of the painkiller fentanyl on the same level as heroin and appropriate money for statewide drug courts. erin: one of the most-watched votes yesterday was in ohio yesterday, where voters rejected a proposal to legalize medical and recreational marijuana. wmur' s reid binion takes a look at this.

>> this was the first that to legalization. we are not going away. reid: ian james does not have to go away, but his organization' s plan to legalize marijuana in the state does have to go back to the drawing board. ohio voters rejected issue 3, the first ballot measure in u.s. history aimed to simultaneously legalizing medical and recreational marijuana. issue 3 had issues of its own. 10 of them to be precise. 10 being the number of predetermined farms that would have gotten exclusive commercial growing rights for a period of four years. advocacy groups slammed the plan as an attempt by its backers to write themselves into the law. >> issue 3 was designed to garner massive and exclusive profits for a small group of

it is with partly cloudy skies, as opposed to the overcast skies this afternoon. we will talk about your weekend coming up. sean: a local mother is back home after hitting all the way to mount everest for her son. erin: tonya dreher from peterborough set out to raise awareness and money for duchenne muscular dystrophy. her son suffers from the disease. tonya and a team of people touched by the disease tracked 17,500 feet to reach the mount everest base camp. >> saying their names out loud makes it that much more real, that we have gone there for them. it was pretty emotional, especially saying my own sons name. erin: the group raised $50,000

for more information, you can head to our website wmur.com. sean: hunting season is underway, but game wardens are cracking down on poachers thanks to robotic deer decoys that look like white tailed deer. some even have motors inside that allow them to move and appear to be realistic. they are deployed in area were wardens get complaints about people shooting from roadways are vehicles. the wardens are usually able to stop the people right away. erin: that is a lifelike decoy. several people removed from a flight in l.a. after a seat was double booked. some passengers say this was racially motivated. sean: a beautiful site has

erin: we are following breaking news from south sudan where a cargo plane crashed just after takeoff killing at least 23 people. some of the victims are children and the wreckage from the russian-made plane is strewn across the nile river. several people were escorted by police often airplane in los angeles and they claim it was became -- because they are black. spirit airlines said the man got upset because his seat was double booked and they offered the man and his girlfriend two other seats on the same flight. all of the passengers were given hotel vouchers and booked on another flight. spirit is investigating to see if there was discrimination. sean: five years have passed since 33 miners were rescued and nine of them are suing their lawyers for fraud.

[laughter] erin: they are beautiful. kevin: they can head back north for a little while. sean: seriously. kevin: this weekend, we go through the lion share at or above average. we continue one with warmer temperatures. today runs from 56 in pittsburgh to 66 in nashua. a front eventually comes through with a chance of a shower. beyond that, the dry skies extend through the weekend and through the middle of next week. it looks like we will start warming back up again starting on monday. we should have what should be another really nice day.

around five miles per hour. the ridge of high pressure is continuing to work its way eastward slowly. the clouds are deflected north end east of that. that leaves the weather systems to our north and to the west. this front back to the west moves across the state by the time we get to friday. the timing of that is right in the middle of the weekend. a few spots down near the freezing mark out west or up north. a little bit of fog out there, which should just take an hour or two to burn off. light winds today. turning southwesterly tomorrow and friday. highs today in most locations at or above 60. there will be some holdouts in the mid to upper 50' s. that is with a light wind. partly cloudy skies tonight.

erin: the shots were fired about 6:30 last night on the city' s west side. ray brewer joins us live from the scene. was anyone hurt? ray: at this point, the attorney general' s office is not telling us if anyone was injure. witnesses say they heard at least a half dozen gunshots before police closed off the section of granite street. police rushed to the scene of a shooting on granite street around 6:30 tuesday night after witnesses say they heard several gunshots. >> i was on my porch about a block away and i heard about five-x gunshots. pretty intense. >> i was in the house with my kids and all of a sudden, i heard like six gunshots right in a row, no stopping. it was loud. >> i was freaking out. i told him, we are going inside because i don' t want to be another victim. ray: the focus of the

gatsas won the election over his democratic challenger joyce craig by a very narrow margin. he won by only a 75-vote margin. top democrats do expect a recount. the city of nashua elected a new mayor who held the position back in the 1980' s. he claimed victory over chris williams by about 2000 votes. the current mayor did not run for reelection. >> the city budget needs to be proposed very quickly. we have a heroin public health emergency in the city. those are two things that need to be taken on. erin: voter turnout was about 30%. in kne eene, voters elected kendall lane. in rochester, caroline mccarley won the election over david

walker. you can see more election results, including aldermen and city council races by heading to our website, wmur.com. sean: a pregnant woman injured in a serious crash in manchester has delivered her baby. about to see is graphic. the crash happened yesterday morning. you can see their car collide with another vehicle before flipping over. dennis was thrown from the car. he and britney suffered serious, but nonlife threatening injuries. britney was pregnant at the time. after the accident, her baby was delivered seven weeks early by c-section. >> we are just thanking the stars that all three survived. dennis, i believe he must' ve been knocked out for a minute. brittany says she remembers everything. flipping over and, you know, the car landing upside down and he was thrown out and crawled his

way over to her to see if she was ok. sean: he believes his daughter' s car caught between two cars that were racing. police are not saying if any charges will be filed. erin: the driver in salem narrowly escaped injury after crashing a car into a hair salon. a car slammed into the front of supercuts on north broadway. one person was inside the salon, but that person was not injured. the crash caused minimal structural damage. sean: another bottle of meth has been discovered in franklin. it was found on the northern rail trail. a man stumbled upon some other meth bottles while walking in the woods near spring street. erin: the doma county delegation has approved more than $8

a little bit of fog to burn off early. lighter wind out there today. low and mid 60' s for most this afternoon. it continues. for how long? we will look at that coming up. erin: we are following some breaking news for you out of south sudan. sean: witnesses say at least 25 people, including children, were killed in a cargo plane crash early this morning. the russian-made plane went down shortly after takeoff near the international airport near the capital of juba. erin: a georgia prisoner who escaped while being transferred between jails is back behind bars this morning. jim edward lowry was we captured late last -- recaptured after a massive manhunt. he is awaiting trial for allegedly killing a georgia sheriff back in june.

somehow managed to get his leg shackles off, use them to break the window, and somehow disappeared into the woods. he was captured without incident. sean: an arkansas police officer is facing charges after he lied about being shot during a traffic stop. >> there was no stop, there was no shooting, except for him shooting his own uniform shirt. sean: the 50-year-old officer was arrested yesterday on suspicion of filing a false report. he admitted about lying. crime scene. he said the shot grazed his bullet-proof vest and deflected off of him. erin: a new study shows that the likely making you dumber. the study reported that stuffy

the wall. it is apparently payback. sean: the annual granite state baseball dinner is being held on november 21 at the radisson and bow center. a stellar cast of ballplayers including jackie bradley jr., chris cola bellow, and sissel fielder will be there. erin: the royals and their fans celebrated their world series victory with a parade through kansas city yesterday. the route was 2.3 miles long and is being called one of the biggest parties the city has ever thrown. this is their first championship in 30 years. the royals also won the world series back in 1985. sean: a diehard mets fan has a permanent reminder of his team' s loss in the world series.

josh davis jumped the gun on getting a world series champs tattoo before the series began. he got the tattoo on his ribs. when he went to his appointment, the artist said they could not talk them out of getting the infamous inc.. >> it is a risk you run for sure. the way he came in and it meant so much to him, you know, it is all good. it' s all good. we have all kinds of ways to cover it up. >> i think it is a whole cool experience. m looking at all the positive aspects of it. [laughter] sean: that' s the thing. his $300 tattoo represents his dedication to his favorite team, he said. erin: a little too dedicated. maybe you can turn that five into a six, fingers crossed. [laughter] shirt, i suppose. erin: it is a big tattoo. sean: he went for it.

we are enjoying some warmer than normal far temperatures. erin: we rarely get questions about the weather from our viewers. we are answering common ones in "what the winter?" >> we get all types of wintry precipitation falling out of the sky. most of us will see each type of this winter weather this season, sometimes even in one storm, depending on the temperatures. the temperature dictates everything and it is not just the temperature at the ground, it is also the temperature up in the sky. here is how certain types of winter reapers the petition happen. first, we are going to start with rain. rain happens when the air in the clouds and on the ground are above freezing. when layers are different from each other, we get nasty mixing. for freezing rain, you get rain droplets that fall into a shallow layer of cold air near the ground and then it can

freeze upon contact with the ground, leaving a coating of glaze. sleet is frozen precipitation that falls as ice pellets. ice pellets occur when snowflakes melt into raindrops as they passed through a thin layer of warmer area. the raindrops than re-freeze then fall onto a layer of subfreezing air near the ground. ok. let' s talk about snow. this one is a little easier. it happens when the air in the clouds and on ground are freezing. hale never falls in the winter. it only falls out of warm season thunderstorms. there is a big difference to how it forms. that is this week' s "what the winter weather?" we want your questions. send them to wmur.com or facebook us. kevin: i' ve had enough over the years. [laughter] kevin: we start off this morning with what looks like a pretty quiet start to the day. otherwise, we are looking at a good deal of sunshine into the afternoon. the exception the last couple of days has been the north country, which has been stuck in the clouds. today, a good deal more sunshine is expected there and temperatures will respond. you can see a few lingering clouds in that direction. you can see patchy fog in lower lying valleys. we will continue to see a pretty nice afternoon with temperatures working their way up into the low-end mid 60' s. a huge ridge of high pressure and control across the northeast going all the way down through texas. eventually, a front bumps into this. this ridge is reinforced next week. after the course of the weekend, we start warming up again next week.

temperatures with a much lighter the big change for us. we will have a much lighter wind through the afternoon. half of the 40' s and then submit 30' s -- some mid-30' s in the north country. high temperatures today, low-end mid 60' afternoon. a much lighter breeze at around five miles per hour into the afternoon. it may turn into a seabreeze later on this afternoon. anywhere from the 30' s to the lower ranges of the 40' s. 34-45 overnight. tomorrow, we recover yet again back into the 60' s. lower 60' s north to mid and upper 60' s. then you will notice the clouds starting to work their way in. clouds, maybe a few breaks during the day on friday with highs in the 60' s to lower 70' s. a front approaches late in the day.

once that goes by, the clearing skies, the breeze picks up and temperatures fall off in time for the weekend. a lot of areas only up through the 40' s by the time we get through sunday afternoon. highs getting back through the 60' s in most locations. certainly, a mild day and then we will fall back from the mid-30' s to the mid-40' s overnight. a little bit more fog around by the time we get to friday morning. that will be our best chance for a shower or two. we could have one early in the day or late in the day. the wind will pick up and bring in the cooler air. highs only in the 50' s, but feeling cooler than that on saturday. sunday, highs only in the 40' s before the recovery by the beginning and middle of next week as the ridge comes back in again and could be around for the first couple of weeks for

the photographer had just set the fall seen when the dear walked out of the woods and surprised them. it is not the first time this dear has made an appearance. the animal has been sneaking into the photo since the beginning of the summer. the deer is saying, the paparazzi is back for me. sean: just a part of the photo package. you get a deer in the background. a sweater worn by nirvana front man kurt cobain is going up for auction. he wore this green cardigan during nirvana' s mtv unplugged taping back in 1993. the starting bid is $20,000. it is expected to sell between $40,000 and $60,000. kevin: it was obtained by a close friend of the cobain family.
