josh: this was a day that started bright and early at the state house, the first two major candidates to file, donald trump and martin o'malley. couldn't be more different in style, message or poll numbers. donald trump entered the state house in good spirits wednesday morning. >> it's a cashier's check, i don't think they would have taken mine. so this is from a bank that's not as rich as we are. reporter: trump will be the first to tell you that he doesn't have to dig deep for the $1,000 filing fee, but for a moment he appeared humbled by where he was. >> what i'm doing now is just special, it's in a different league, and i hope i can pull it off because i have so many friends that want this to happen and they know that together we're going to make this country so much better than it is right now. reporter: that sentiment was short lived as second later he was onto ben carson. >> there's an article today that he fall as sleep every time he gets into a car to drive.

reporter: a couple hours earlier it was martin o'malley getting a lesson on primary history from secretary gardner. after filling out his paperwork, he said the race begins now, and he believes he's hitting his stride. >> every day i try to improve, as much as i can in terms of communicating, as much as i can as a leader, and i try to squeeze every minute out of every day for the maximum benefit of this campaign. josh: o'malley had hoped to be the first democrat to file paperwork for the new hampshire primary, but by minutes that distinction went to mark stewart, a libertarian thinker who admits he's a long shot. >> realistically you're first, you're most important and i live close by. josh: that's always convenient. a major temporary tradition now under way. tomorrow marco rubio, carly

sanders will be there too. live, josh mcelveen, wmur news 9. jennifer: as far as jeb bush, he won't be filing until later in the month. but he is here in the granite state right now on a campaign bus tour. the republican is refocusing his effort on early voting states after a rough october that saw him sink in the polls. this afternoon bush sat down on his campaign bus for an extended interview with our john distaso, he said he's aware he needs to turn things around. >> i'm my toughest critic, i have a high expectation of me. but i have a really high expectation. reporter: this is day two of bush's three-day bus tour here in new hampshire. tonight he's in the lakes region, tomorrow morning he'll hold a town hall meeting in conway. tom: police are still looking for who ever shot and killed a 37-year-old husband and father in manchester. the shots rang out just after

are wrapping up their on scene investigation outside the granite street apartment building writ happened. andy hershberger is live with reporter: investigators don't think this shooting is random and they are asking for the case. authorities say 37-year-old michael pittman was shot to death outside his apartment on granite street tuesday night. officials say several people called 911 and neighbors gunshots. pittman lived at this apartment with his wife, his 2-year-old daughter and 13-year-old stepdaughter. by mid afternoon a small memorial was crafted on the sidewalk outside the four-story building. she was a friend of the victim and says she was at the apartment billion last night when they heard shots. >> we thought it was firecrackers. and so when we went outside then another guy was like no, someone got shot, so rewant downstairs.

very early stages, and at this time we have reason to believe this was not it a random act, but we are asking the public to remain vigilant until we have made an arrest in this case. reporter: an autopsy was scheduled for today to determine death. live in manchester, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. tom: we do have new and troubling numbers tonight concerning the state's heroin epidemic. jennifer: in manchester there have been 80 deadly opioid overdose this is year out of more than 600 overdose calls. this is according to american medical response. october was the worst for nashua, this year had five deaths. today the executive council voted to approve a special legislative session focused only on aaddressing the opioid crisis. amy coveno is in the newsroom with the bipartisan efforts here. reporter: yes, this is a bipartisan effort, but republican leadership are asking

what took the governor so long. >> we've had inaction, inaction, inaction and how the governor's office is saying hurry up hurry up hurry up. reporter: there was more fanfare before the executive council meeting than during it. some anticipated a fiery exchange between republican council members and the governor over the proposed special legislative session. but the 4-1 vote was cordial. >> i'd be really pleased that we continue to have bipartisan consensus. i know that the councilors, as many legislators, are hearing from their constituents. reporter: richards elementary school hosted the meeting, part of an initiative to bring the meetings on the road. >> you have to be pro-active, you have to think these things out, which is why the governor's administration i feel has really failed the state. >> families across new

hampshire, way too many of them, are grappling with the loss of a loved one to drug abuse, and we need to continue to work together and i'm very confident. now we've got a framework for doing that sooner rather than later. reporter: raising the penalty for illegally selling fentanyl to match that of heroin, increasing access to treatment and implementing drug courts state wild are aamong the priorities from the house and senate. >> as much as we want to address the supply side, we know we need to address the demand side and in addition to this package we continue to need to reauthorize or bipartisan medicaid expansion program because that brings in federal dollars for expanded treatment recovery. reporter: this evening there are some questions about how doctors around the state are reacting to the governor's emergency rules surrounding prescribing opioid for pain relief. the spin from the democrats and republicans started about an hour ago, we are following it, that special session begins

november 18. amy coveno, wmur news 9. jennifer: in her re-election bid, senator ayotte could face a challenge from within her own party. former house speaker bill o'brien and other liberty conservatives are holding a meeting tonight to discuss the possibility. o'brien and others say they are upset with her recent rote on the federal budget and support of the clean power plan. tom: the gap has widened as we get the official results from the manchester mayoral election, the final count now show thats 85 votes separates the count. many are wondering if there will be a recount. reporter: i spoke to mayor gatsas today and he said despite the slim margin of victory, a win is a win. nearly 20,000 votes were cast in the city last night. and even though he won by only 85 votes, gatsas says he's thrilled to have a fourth term

we contacted gatsas' challenger joyce craig to ask about a possible recount in the race, a spokesperson said she would not be commenting today. i asked mayor gatsas if he's concerned about a challenge to his win. >> that's certainly up to my challenger. if that's what way want to do, she has the prerogative to do it. but i don't think it changes anything. i've been in a couple recounts, these ballots are all machine counted and i don't think there will be a change. reporter: craig said she will decide in the coming days whether to ask for a recount. shelley walcott, wmur news 9. tom: thank you. straight ahead tonight -- german update on this rollover crash in manchester that was caught on camera and where the investigation stands tonight. mike: it's a weather wednesday and we're in meredith at moulton farm,

this was in the area of beech and silver streets yesterday. investigators are still trying to figure out what led up to the moz da collide -- mazda colliding with a saab. police say the driver and his pregnant wife had had an emergency c-section last night both suffered serious by nonlife threatening injuries. >> based on the fact that there's an active investigation i can't comment on what may have precipitated the crash. jennifer: they say the investigation could take several weeks to complete. tom: josh is here to fill us in on another gorgeous day today. josh: sure is a nice week out there and we'll talk about how much longer these temperatures last.

all your holiday needs. i'm going to try to pick up something, muffins, pie? too many choices, but weather wise we only have one choice and that's to enjoy this weather. josh: yes, the it sure was nice today with highs in the upper 60's, and the high spot in the state today, keene at 70 degrees. but even in the north country made it into the lower 60's. i'll step out of the way and let you enjoy this. that's the portsmouth, and there's a look at newfound lake. we had temperatures warm, the sun bright, and there's more on the way. here's a look at your current temperatures, obviously with clear skies and light winds, those temperatures are cooling down, but we're in the 40's to the north and 50's most everywhere else, couple of 40's sprinkled in there as well. most of us bottom out in the lower 40's and upper 30's, but

it might get chillier than that in the north country tonight, down to the lower 30's likely. average high for today in concord, 53. of course we made it to 68, so about 15 degrees above average no. where near the record, but certainly well above average. take a look at the clear skies, hardly any clouds out there all day long. and get ready for another day at least to start like that, maybe a little fog tomorrow morning, but then this big ridge in the jet stream steers in more clear skies and unusually warm temperatures, maybe a few clouds in the afternoon. but that's about it. the storminess staying to our west with snow and rain mixing in in parts of western united states. that's thanks to this dip in the jet stream, but it rises up and that steers all the weather up into southern can darks keeps it a way from us and brings up the warmth, and look at the forecast here. that continues for a couple more days. by the time we get to the weekend that dip to the west in the jet stream does move overhead, it clears things out

for the weekend you but did cool them down. saturday are be sunny but windy and sunday will be the cooler of the two days, topping off in the 40's. next week a bump in the jet stream comes up again, not as warm as this week, but above average again next week him some fog in the valleys tonight, tomorrow sunshine to start. late day mid to high leveling clouds streaming in. temperatures tomorrow similar to today, maybe a couple degrees warmer. friday might be the warmest day in a while, not as warm as yesterday but the warmest day we have for the next several, as we'll make it to the upper 60's and lower 70's. in front to our west will be approaching, but it does so so late in the day it will be just past or at sunset or into the evening hours. a quick shower and it pulls through, back to clearing skies. windy for the weekend. for tonight, 30's to the north, lower 40's elsewhere.

jamie: after three home games the celtics play their first road game of the year, in indiana to play the pacers. both teams have just one victory so far this season. u.n.h. football, the season is on the line, come saturday at 3:00 with four losses in year u.n.h. can still possibly make the playoffs. but they definitely need to win their final three games to have a chance and it start at home with a tough opponent, richmond. the spiders are ranked fifth in the country and they are coming to durham. >> they got some tremendous receivers, big offensive line. defensively they're the number five team in the country, they beat the number one team in the country for a reason. it's a really good football game. >> they're big up front and they have great receivers, the runningback is also very good,

he's fast, and they're a play making team. jamie: games you can watch on channel 9 this weekend, notre dame at pitt, florida state and clemson, a top 20 matchup, clemson the new number one team in the land. and ohio state they will host minnesota, all those games live here on channel 9. manchester monarchs have had a slow start to the season playing just four games in three weeks. but that will change when they hit the road this weekend. three games at the brampton, and then in kalamazoo, michigan. >> it's kind of the first long road trip of the year, so i guess we could use some team bonding and really get to know each other. we have four games this season, so we have to stick together. >> a big day of soccer semifinals in boys division one,
