top liberty conservatives met near the state house to talk about replacing senator ayotte conservative. the closed door meeting and did selected. former house speaker bill brien' s name has been floated night. many who attended say they were upset with her record. >> she has been drinking the drinking it and that is a problem. it is a problem for the people who fought for her and worked for her and knocked on doors for her, that she is now turning her back on them. ray: now, former new hampshire gop chairman jack kimball says it is key that the movement get behind a single candidate so that support is not split. senator ayotte responded by telling news 9 that new hampshire comes first and that she is focused on doing her job

results. reporting live, ray brewer. sean: thanks. with governor maggie hassan also running for senator ayotte' s seat, the race to replace her in the corner office is growing. mark connolly will officially launch campaign later today in manchester. the 60-year-old newcastle democrat has worked in the private sector as a financial advisor and served in government as the deputy secretary of state and that ahead of bureau securities of regulation. he wants more transparency in state government and less partisanship. mark connolly: i' m a democrat, but we are from new hampshire first. i' m hoping to attract independents, some republicans. i will be a pragmatic voice for all new hampshire. sean: he is pledging that if he

he says, like john lynch, he has no interest to go to washington. he is the second democrat in the race. state house majority leader jack flanagan has stepped down from his duties effective immediately. he recently formed an exploratory committee to consider running for congress in the second district. this is the seat currently held by annie kuster. erin: a small plane registered to a man from rye has crashed off the coast of queens, new york. the coast guard says they have recovered a body. the beechcraft plane crashed around 8:00 last night a mile and a half from breezy point. the debris was found about an hour and a half later. the plane is registered to james mcgee of rye, but it is not clear if he was actually on board or why the plane went down.

meantime, both american and british officials say they now a russian jetliner that crashed in the egyptian desert may have been brought down by a bomb with isis. the area indefinitely. lana zak reports. lana: the actions taken by the british government are being according to egyptian officials. an explosive device rather than mechanical failure likely brought down the russian jetliner in the sinai peninsula. investigators are taking more seriously the claims of an isis-affiliated terrorist group. the immediate aftermath of the plane crash scene in this new video. plumes of smoke rising from the stretchers.

bruins, and celtics have been paid since 2012 to host tributes to the troops, including $700,000 to the patriots. $53 million of taxpayer money went to dozens of teams across the nation over the past few years. the department of defense says it was all part of recruitment and military support, but says it will end the program. >> there is a lot of good things that professional sports do to honor the men and women who serve in the military. but these millions of dollars are not acceptable as an expenditure of taxpayer dollars. erin: the nfl says if it finds any inappropriate payments, teams will be required to refund that money. paid patriotism will be banned when the defense organization act is signed soon. sean: there might not be any snow on the ground yet, but that is not stopping skiers from training. the historic ski club of waterville valley has year-round

good morning. ray: good morning, sean. there isn' t a challenger just yet, but those present at that meeting did decide to continue that effort to replace ayotte with someone who is more conservative. top liberty conservatives gathered in concord on wednesday night to talk about challenging incumbent republican senator primary. really ticked off at her. ray: many who attended the meeting are upset with the recent vote by the senator on the budget and her support for white house. kool-aid and she has been liking drinking it in washington and that is a problem. it is a problem for the people who fought for her and worked for her and knocked on doors for her, that she is now turning her back on them. ray: former house speaker bill o' brien was at the meeting.

>> if kelly ayotte had been doing her job and voting the way she told us she was going to come of this meeting would not happen. ray: o' brien said the focus is on organizing for now. >> let' s make sure we have the answers about support, financial, grassroots, and so forth. ray: if the former' s bigger does not lead the charge, others appear to be ready. jack kimball says the key is to ensure the movement gets behind a single candidate. >> we have a very strong conservative base. you had 72% of the conservative votes let between six can' s -- split between six candidates in 2010. we' ve got to come out of this with one. that is how you win. ray: in response to the meeting, senator ayotte said, "new hampshire comes first for me and i' m focused on doing my job and continuing to deliver results for the people of new hampshire."

erin: three more presidential candidates are expected to file today and have their names included on the new hampshire primary ballot. marco rubio is set to file at the secretary of state' s office at 9:00 this morning. carly fiorina will file at noon. bernie sanders will be filing at 3:00. you can watch the filings live on wmur.com or on her mobile app. two other candidates filed for the primary on wednesday. martin o' malley was the first contender to make the trip to concord. donald trump also filed to have his name on the ballot. a few other candidates are going to be in the granite state today, but they are not planning on filing just yet. john kasich will be making stops. lindsey graham is paying visits to salem and manchester. chris christie is attending events in nashua and somersworth. sean: several new hampshire democrats are pleading for more debates between the presidential

candidates. the dnc has approved six debates and the head of the dnc says no feel the committee is overstepping its authority. >> the people ought to show. that is the key. we are the people. we are the voters of new hampshire. debates are essential. sean: so far, the republican candidates have taken part in three debates and another is set for next week. the democratic candidates have only had one debate. erin: the search continues for the person who shot and killed a manchester man outside his apartment on tuesday night. police were called to 472 granite street after several residents reported hearing gunshots. authorities identified the victim as 37-year-old michael pittman. he lived at the apartment with his wife, 2-year-old daughter and 13-year-old stepdaughter. investigators say they do not believe the shooting was random.

anyone with information is urged to contact the manchester police department. sean: a 16-year-old hunter helped a 66-year-old man who was injured in an atv accident. a 16-year-old hunter happened to be in the area and heard the man yelling for help and immediately called 911. the teen stayed with the man until emergency crews arrived. erin: a litchfield man wanted in massachusetts on a number of charges was captured this week. the four-year-old joseph staph was arrested -- 24-year-old joseph staph was arrested. he was originally charged with crimes including two counts of breaking and entering and was wanted as a fugitive from justice. sean: a lancaster business owner has been sentenced on three felony theft charges.

he solicited 13 customers to refinance their auto loans and then kept the proceeds without paying the original loans. those customers ended up with two loans on the same vehicle. erin: the executive council has voted to approve governor maggie hassan' s request to reconvene the legislature for a special session solely focused on addressing the heroin crisis. the governor said the state cannot wait until january to address the heroin epidemic, single-minded focus and bipartisan action. in a four to one vote yesterday, criticism. >> we have had in action, in action, in action, and now the governor is saying, hurry up, hurry up. >> i' bipartisan consensus. i know that the counselors are

erin: the special session is set to get underway on wednesday, november 18. sean: the commission created to look into child-abuse deaths has released its first report. so far, the commission has reported that communication at dcyf is lacking and they are concerned it is not a 24-hour organization. the third issue has to do with dcyf purging records of abuse. reports deemed unfounded are purged in three years. those that are founded are purged in seven years. since march, there has been a 33% increase in people reporting possible abuse or neglect. erin: senator jeanne shaheen is urging the secretary of veterans affairs to use a database to identify world war ii vets exposed to mustard gas. she and richard blumenthal are asking the secretary to use the national public radio database, which identifies 3900 veterans

from 64 to 72 from north to south. we will have the details coming right up. erin: we' re following breaking news. police are looking for a teenager missing from the hampshire country school, which provides services to students with disabilities. sean: state fish and game officers say 16-year-old julian hofstetter has not been seen since last night. he is about six feet tall and weighs 200 pounds and has brown hair. he was last seen on foot wearing a blue coat. erin: we are following a developing story out of maine. we have just learned that four people are dead after an overnight shooting in oakland. sean: maine state police say the last night. the gunman has been identified as herman durico.

a four-year-old girl was inside the home at the time, but she was not hurt. the investigation continues into a bizarre case out in illinois. erin: authorities say a veteran police officer staged a scene to make it appear that he was shot and killed, when he actually committed suicide. his death proctored a massive manhunt two months ago. it all began when lieutenant charles gliniewicz radioed in saying he was in pursuit of three suspicious men. minutes later, police found the officers dead. hundreds of fellow officers attended his funeral, believing he had been murdered. on wednesday, investigators revealed that he staged his own suicide. >> he committed the ultimate betrayal to the citizens he served and his community. erin: he was about to be exposed stealing thousands of dollars police department.

digital amnesia. many of us expect our phones to remember everything for us. a survey conducted by a cyber security firm in massachusetts found that 91% of participants treated mobile devices as an extent of their brain. 44% believes their smartphone need to know. >> it is not just phone numbers. like dates, memories. >> the key is for people to ask themselves, what are they offloading from their brain and putting on to their device? look for the appropriate app or piece of software to protect it. sean: 35% of the youngest people surveyed say they would panic if they lost access to their smartphone data. erin: in sports, the celtics play their first road game of the season last night at the indiana pacers.

[laughter] erin: what is that? a spotted skunk was caught on camera showing off his handstand skills. that is amazing. it is actually part of the animal' s defense mechanism. before spraying, spotted skunks will do a handstand to try to intimidate any possible aggressors. kevin: i would do that, too, if i could do a handstand. sean: whenever you feel threatened, get on your hands and stand like that. kevin: they don' t have any other sort of defense. i don' t think they do anything else besides the handstand. sean: just the handstand. kevin: we start off with clear skies in the southern areas. some fog developing with warmer water over the cooler air. we will continue to see patchy fog in spots near area water. we are looking at clear skies to start. eventually partly sunny skies to finish. it has been a charmed life through most of the week. temperatures ranging 10-20 degrees above the average. a front eventually approaches late in the day tomorrow. there is much cooler air behind this. sunday, highs with sunshine likely not out of the 40' s. we start off this morning with temperatures in a few degrees of 40 early on. inland sections easing back into the mid to upper 30' s. you have some patchy fog in some of the lower line valleys.

we will see a southwesterly breeze which will kick up over 10-50 miles per hour. -- 10-15 miles per hour. highs are in the lower 60' s to upper -- upper 60' s to lower 70' s. that likely continues tomorrow through the front approaching. tomorrow is the best chance for a shower in the next four or five days. the 60' s to the lower 70' today. s tonight. low clouds, fog, maybe drizzle tries to form near shorelines. temperatures will work their way back into the 60' tomorrow. a thicker cloud cover late in the day. notice the broken line of showers coming through. we clear skies out later on
