by fewer than a hundred votes. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 at 5:00. josh: federal officials have joined the search for answers in the murder of denise robert. good evening, i' m josh mcelveen jean: and i' m jean mackin. members of the fbi fanned out through the neighborhood today where robert was killed on august 30. wmur' s andy hershberger joins us live with details on the fbi' s investigation. andy: fbi officials were in the area of the shooting most of the day looking for any piece of evidence connected to this crime. search crews today used everything from metal detectors and knives to ladder trucks to look for clues in the murder of denise robert. the 62-year-old woman was shot and killed while walking in this neighborhood on august 30. her killer remains at large. robert died from a single gunshot wound. much of this area has already been searched and officials say the work done today by the fbi

josh: two men are facing resisting arrest charges after a pair of foot chases in 27-year-old cory roukey was wanted on another warrant. police found him at the subway on second street yesterdya afternoon. after locking himself in the bathroom he started running. an officer took him into custody after tasing him. police say a friend, 24-year-old aaron birmingham of lebanon, he was eventually arrested as well. jean: an investigation is underway after a small plane registered to a seacoast man crashed in the water near new york city last night. one body was recovered. it' s not clear if the owner of the plane was the person on board. wmur' s shelley walcott joins us live from the newsroom with more. shelley: police say the plane that crashed off the coast of new york, was registered to james mcgee from rye, new hampshire.

one body was recovered after the plane went down about a mile and a half off breezy point in queens. but the identity of the victim has not been released. the ntsb says no one else was on board the two-seater plane when it crashed. the plane had taken off from northeast philadelphia airport and was en route to portsmouth international airport at pease. the faa says no distress call was ever made. witnesses describe seeing the plane. >> he was really low. you usually don' t fly that low, and you usually go straight across the ocean. you don' t fly over breezy point. shelley: the ntsb and the federal aviation administration are investigating. a preliminary report on the crash will be released in 10 days. live in the newsroom, i' m shelley walcott, wmur news 9. jean: it was an unseasonably warm day in the granite state. josh: many people were outside enjoying the sunshine and nice weather. chief meteorolgist mike haddad tells us if the warm temperatures are going to stick around. >> i don'

shower, and how much cooler will it get over the weekend? we will take a look at all of that coming up in a few minutes. josh: now to commitment 2016 coverage. a busy day of first-in-the-nation filings at the statehouse. one of the candidates to shake hands with secretary of state bill gardner today, democrat bernie sanders. wmur political reporter adam sexton joins us live from concord where there was no drama today, about the vermont senator' s party affiliation. adam: that was something of a question mark heading into today. sanders has previously identified and run as an independent but now says he' s a democrat. this afternoon the secretary of state said he takes sanders stated affiliation at face value and had no basis to challenge it. the vermont senator stopped by bill gardner' s office just before 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. the halls lined with his

supporters. he made his filing, held a brief press conference, and then headed outside for a big campaign rally. sanders says he is launching nothing less than a revolution to take down what he says is a corrupt system rigged for millionaires and billionaires. as far as comment on his party affiliation even though he had party chairman ray buckley at his side to validate his status as a democrat sanders doesn' t exactly sound like someone fully embracing the party of jefferson and jackson. >> for this campaign right now, i' m running as a democrat. i intend to win this nomination, and i intend, by the way, to help lead a transformation of the democratic party to bring in more young people and bring in more working people. adam: sanders was asked about his relative lack of retail campaigning here in new hampshire. he said it is something he does at his rallies. he essentially said he can' t help it if his message is resonating with a lot of people

and drawing big crowds. that makes it harder for him to meet one-on-one with every voter. live in concord, adam sexton, wmur news 9. josh: before sanders, two republican candidates added their names to the primary ballot. the first was florida senator marco rubio who had to ask for a pen before he could officially file. after making sure his paperwork was in order rubio took questions from reporters. he gave a sharp response to comments donald trump made in in concord yesterday, when he said rubio' s personal finances were a, quote, disaster. >> i find it ironic that the only person running for president that' s ever declared a bankruptcy four times in the last 25 years is attacking anyone on finances. josh: trump has pointed out that he never filed personal bankruptcy. rubio says he has never done anything illegal or unethical when it comes to money. >> i believe that we will win. i believe that we will win. josh: not long after rubio, a chanting crowd greeted carly fiorina. after filing her forms and thanking supporters, she was asked about her own perceived

23-year-old harrison lambert back on september third outside of his parents' home. the just released ag' s report says lambert' s father called 911 to say lambert was armed with a knife and threatening his parents. three officers responded, and according to the report, told lambert to drop the knife, but he ran towards them, and two opened fire, killing him. tonight, seven people are displaced after a fire in berlin. flames tore through the second avenue apartment building around 5:00 this morning. no injuries are reported. an investigation is underway to figure out what started the fire. time now to check at how traffic is flowing around the state. it looks like there is some troubles southbound at 293 in manchester. josh: 95.7 wzi-d' s peggy james joins us live with a look at your evening commute. peggy: you can enjoy the mild temperatures at least, maybe crack the window for the ride home tonight.

jean: investigators say the man behind the stabbing at the university of california merced was a freshman from the san francisco bay area. josh: 18-year-old fasial mohammad of santa clara was shot and killed by police after stabbing four students with a hunting knife. the motive behind the attack is not clear, but another student described the attacker as anti >> didn' t talk much. anybody. walking to class i never saw him walk with anybody.

josh: officers are crediting a construction worker who confronted the attacker with saving others lives. he is one of the stabbing victims. all of the victims are expected to survive. the campus will resume classes tomorrow. jean: a lawyer for the woman charged with killing four people when she allegedly drove her car into the oklahoma state homecoming parade says she has psychological problems. documents from her mental evaluation show she thought the year was 2016 and she thought she was talking to jesus. 25-year-old adacia chambers is charged with 4 counts of second-degree murder and 46 counts of felony assault. she faces a prison sentence of at least 40 years. josh: the illinois police officer who made his suicide look like he was killed on duty at one point may have tried to hire a hit man. investigators say lieutenant joe gliniewicz was worried that a village administrator would expose him for embezzlement. they say he texted someone to try to arrange a meeting with a gang member. authorities treated his death as a homicide for the last two months but now say he killed himself.

jean: more countries are banning airlines from flying to egypt' s sinai peninsula after the deadly crash of a russian airliner. as abc' s stephanie ramos tells us, investigators in egypt say officials in the u.s. and u.k. are moving too quickly to blame the crash on terrorism. russian, egypt in, and other international teams continue to investigate. the question is still looming. what caused the jet carrying 224 vacationers, mainly russian, to break apart in the sky? in an exclusive interview with abc' s bob woodruff the u.s. secretary of defense agreed with u.k. officials that the plane was more likely than not downed by a bomb. an exclusive device. that is consistent with what we know.

>> now your storm watch nine forecast. >> what a stretch with temperatures not only above average but close to record highs this week. we have a great shot along the coast. that' s where we take you now. a lot of sun to be had out there with a few clouds building in a times this afternoon. overall, nice and bright and nice and warm. here are the official highs. so far today, low 70' s, even across the great north woods. the average high only 53 degrees. we were just three shy of the record in concord and along the coast. inland, concord' s record high as 75. with enough sunshine, we could reach it, but it will be a battle with clouds sometimes during the day on friday. you will notice right now temperatures are cooling a little bit.

mid to upper 60' s central and south east. the winds are very gentle right now. that has allowed temperatures to crash or rise into the 60' s and 70' s. they will crash this weekend and drive-in much cooler air. very mild in concord right now. the dew point at 51. that' s relatively high for this time of year as well. that' s primarily due to the wind out of the south and southwest. tomorrow in concord, only about a 20% shot of a shower late in the day, up near 70, and then we cool back to reality. even colder on sunday, temperatures at or even slightly below average for a change. but how about this? overnight lows tonight, mid 40' s north, 50-50 five central, self running very close to average highs for this time of year.

distribution in the region. the company will expand its propane transfer facility in newington. residents have expressed concerns about safety. tomorrow, the state will review the plan for final approval. josh: a woman killed in a murder suicide in maine was able to call 911 before she died. police say her boyfriend shot her last night along with two other people. there are three-year-old daughter was not hurt. police say her emergency call gave them valuable information about the shooting rampage. although they have not released details. the girl is with her grandmother. jean: also in maine, one high school student was killed and 3 more injured when their car crashed into some trees early this morning. the crash happened in buxton. a portion of the road was closed while crews made repairs. the students' high school has called in a crisis team for the students and staff. josh: a maine woman is in the hospital after her car hit a moose on the maine turnpike last night.

california, maryland, new york, pennsylvania and wisconsin will shut down. the closures will cut the factory workforce by 15%, kraft heinz will also close its meat processing plant in iowa. josh: gifford' s ice cream plans to double the amount of ice cream its maine factory can produce. the company plans to spend one production. the privately owned company is operated by fifth-generation gifford family members, and the ice cream is still made using antique 1940's freezers in skowhegan, maine. a formal announcement will be made at an ice cream scooping ceremony tomorrow. u.s. car sales are close to reaching a record this year and profits are already generating more money than the last record-breaking sales year in 2000. october was one of the best months for car sales in the industry' s history with sales up 14% from last year. drivers are also spending more on new features including

bit low just buy a couple of degrees on sunday. showers and a couple of thunderstorms late tomorrow afternoon, early evening. a few sprinkles tonight. other than that, rain free. tomorrow, upper 60' s. again, the record high at the coast is only 62 degrees. we will shatter that. notice how much cooler he gets on saturday. in southern new hampshire, on average, mid to upper 50' s. tonight, again, a mild one. only down to around 50. mid to upper 40' s north. lower 50' s self. some 50' s at the coast and in clouds off and on, and a couple out. tomorrow, clouds will break for some partial sun. shower, breezy and warm.

s. only around 50 on sunday, it' s going to come back, but early next week is not that bad either. josh: nothing to complain about. jean: nasa releasing new findings from its mission to mars. josh: nasa says solar winds stripped away the planet' s atmosphere and the search for water on the red planet has been successful. scientists believe the planet was at one time both warm and wet. jean: check out this view of this cyclone from space. nasa released images of the storm making landfall on yemen early tuesday. it lashed the central coast with maximum sustained winds of about 85 miles per hour. this cyclone is the first tropical storm on record to make landfall in the impoverished arab country. >> now, news nine sports. jamie: the boston bruins are ready to skate in dc tonight

the bruins have not lost on the gametime 7:00. it' s a vanilla non-conference schedule for the unh hockey team this year. no traditional powerhouse teams like michigan, minnesota, or denver. other than dartmouth, the most interesting of the games may be this weekend. they play two games at michigan state university. the spartans program has been down a bit in recent years but they will be tough at home. >> it' s all about travel. it' s a great facility, great tradition. we are looking forward to that. again, we will put a couple of 60 minute hockey games together. jamie the regular season is over : but the show must go on. week number ten of the friday night football report will feature playoff previews in all three divisions, so join jason king tomorrow night at 11:00. coming up at 6:00, hometown hero thursday.

work. that student has since graduated, but shared the picture on facebook as a thank you. she was living at a shelter at the time and couldn' t afford daycare. >> she was a very focused student. she knew what she wanted to do, so we wanted to help her the best way we could. josh: guy coaches a diploma program to help students at risk of not graduating. his former student is now in culinary school and living with her son in atlanta. good stuff. jean: that' s why we love our teachers. josh: his name is tommy guy. what did they call him when he was younger? it jean: tom [sfx:] all candidates' voices talking over one another my dad carried mail on his back. they called him "john the mailman" and they loved him because he looked out for everyone in those neighborhoods. i learned something from my father, do your best to look out for other pdople. we turned ohio around and we created jobs and cut taxes and balanced our budgets.
