5:16 pm
great north woods, lower to mid 40's elsewhere, winds are very light out of the southwest, but during the day tomorrow they begin to turn on shore, so right now even though the coastline is one of the warm spots sitting at 56 degrees, it will be one of the cool spots tomorrow. speaking of that wind, it's very general out of the southwest, visibility is unlimited. that will change tomorrow afternoon, as rain is on the increase. we notice the chance of precipitation tomorrow along the coast and up to about concord, about 20% through about 3:00 or 4:00. but then those chances increase quite a bit as we go into the day on wednesday, then the shower chance for that 100% is not until the afternoon on thursday, so we're not talking about an all day rain on wednesday, thursday and friday. but things will be changing for the unsettled as we go through the next couple days. overnight tonight it upper 20's north, upper 20's and lower 30's elsewhere and even though it's nice and warm in the mid part of the country, temperatures will remain on the cool side due to tin crease in cloud cover and
5:17 pm
the on shore winds. so let's look at the timeline in terms of the rain. none out there tonight, none for the morning commute or lunch time tomorrow, it's late in the afternoon when the thicker clouds produce a little rain for the evening commute. mainly from concord south. then everyone gets in on some rain later tomorrow evening, into the first half of veterans day, once the rain clears, the clouds tend to linger and the breeze will be up quite a bit as we go through the afternoon. wednesday. notice precipitation, all of that blue indicates about a half inch to an inch, and there could be a couple pots that get a little more, but all of that rain. we're going to get our fair share for tuesday night and early on wednesday. beyond that clouds on the increase again on thursday after a bright start. couple showers roll in later in the afternoon, then it turns cooler. so on friday a blend of sun and clouds. by saturday mixed rain and snow showers in the north country, a sprinkle or flurry elsewhere.
5:18 pm
and seasonably chilly on monday. it was so nice and warm last week, and now all those temperatures outside of the 50's tomorrow, right near the average for in time of year. so we go from warm to what we call normal. josh: what's going on with the sun? mike: it's busy. jean: there are have been at least a dozen minor events on this part of the sun, we're told, over the last 30 hours. can you see the solar material jumping from the surface and that has led to several small flares on our sun. josh: well, the sun wasn't much help during a record setting blackout that hit the u.s. 50 years ago tonight, at the peak of rush hour, a problem with the electrical grid left much of the northeast and southern canada in the dark, that included boston, new york and toronto. one pilot going into logan for a landing says all the city lights just blinked out at once. you can see much more from that night on the slide show on wmur.com.
