the recount started at 9 a.m. monday morning. volunteers taking on the tedious process of counting 20,198 ballots by hand, undisputed ballots into boxes with candidates names. challenged ballots, forwarded to the board of recount. both candidates in manchester' s mayoral election, fully supportive of the process. >> it' s very important to my supporters that they understand where all the final numbers are so a recount was very necessary today. >> there' s always anticipation because anything can happen you know we sit here and we' re humbled by the voters that came out and i think it' s important that we just pay attention to what is happening and counting the votes. >> eight hours in manchester' s city clerk, was optimistic a new mayor would be named by day' s end. >> we are about three quarters of the way done, we have 4 wards left. we should be completed, i assume, by about 7 o' clock this evening. >> and it nearly 7:00 on the dot, the final recount numbers.

10, 021 votes. mayor theodore l. gatsas received 10, 085 votes. shelley: a victorious mayor gatsas, who stayed in the room during the entire recount, said he was ready to get to work, >> -- get to work. >> as a matter of fact, in 10 minutes there' s a school board meeting. shelley: and even though the recount showed a slimmer margin of victory for the mayor, down to 64 from 85 votes between him and craig, gatsas says the recount was necessary. >> when you have more votes counted than you did ballots that were processed, that was a mistake by everyone in that first count and they shouldn' t have counted. shelley: joyce craig released a statement congratulating mayor gatsas, and thanking all the volunteers who participated in the recount process. she was not available for an on camera interview this evening. tom: i went him woman who said she was raped by bill cosby is

now suing the comedian for defamation. while wmur doesn' t typically identify alleged victims of sexual assault. kristina ruehli has shared her story publicly with us and other media. in a philadelphia magazine article she alleged that cosby drugged her and sexually assaulted her in 1965. ruehli is now suing cosby in federal court in massachusetts over a statement made through his attorney after that article. she says the statement called her and other accusers liars. more than 50 women have accused cosby of sexual assault. he has never been criminally charged and has denied all the allegations. we contacted mr. cosby' s spokesman for a comment and have gotten no response. shelley: a coyote alert went out in one new hampshire town tonight. people are spotting more of them while on routine patrols. jean mackin has the story from merrimack.

people reported an increase in activity. police say it is not limited to just one part of town. they are putting out the coyote alert after taking calls about missing pets in a neighborhood in the northwest section of town. >> we' ve had more of an abundance of calls about coyotes in the area. people missing cats, small dogs. >> or woman living around french court cold police her small dog was taken two months ago and said since then she has seen more and more coyotes. her friend even reported finding pet collars in the woods. wayne colette says wildlife or at home around here there it the neighborhood backs up to conservation land. >> my wife did see some in the yard. i' ve seen bears and deer and bobcats and fisher cats in the art. >> he says he' s not concerned but keeps 19-year-old copperfield safe inside at night.
