this morning tapering off to scattered showers and drizzle this afternoon. many of us have seen it come to an end, but a wet feel for sure. the current temperatures, it's pretty uniform across the granite state as often is the case when the atmosphere is moist and mid and upper 40's will do it for you. the winds have calmed down. a little gusty earlier today. they have calmed at least for a moment. look for the winds to kick back up again in the coming days. so it will be a little bit windy as well, blowing some more leaves off some of those trees. your almanac for today, the high 49, the average high is 50, real close to average despite the damp and cloudy wet day that we've seen. the record for today, 70 degrees from back in 2002. a look at the radar, you can see the echoes diminishing in the last hour or two really down to just some light drizzle and sprinkles in a few spots. it's much drier to our west, although don't expect a lot of sunshine tomorrow, at least it will be drier to start the day a look at the doppler radar here, zooming in on the north

country, not much left here, drier there and the most organized showers left over in the state are in southeastern new hampshire headed toward the sea coast and then exiting the region. again, some drizzle may linger for a little while, but then things calm down it for a while until this next system moves in. this packs a punch right now. by the time it gets to us, it certainly loses a lot of that punch, but right now, it is weather. we were just mentioning this in the news a few minutes ago. here is the current active tornado warnings in iowa, three of them right now and many tornado watches for the entire area, many severe thunderstorm warnings in effect as well. that's those yellow colors that you see. by the time it spins its way toward us, it loses much of its luster. i'll show you that as it moves across the country right now heading toward us by tomorrow afternoon, the rain moves in and, yeah, it will be wet again tomorrow afternoon, but certainly not expecting any severe weather out of it. here is what we do expect, clouds tonight and into
5:21 pm
tomorrow, most likely mostly cloudy when you wake up, maybe a peek or two of sunshine in the morning, the best chance is well away from the coast. here comes from the rain from the system, no severe weather, but heavy downpours in some spots by tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night it's more scattered showers. they're pulling away by the time we get into friday. if you're in southern or southeastern parts of the states on friday, partly sunny and warmer. farther to the west and north, those temperatures will be a little cooler with a chance of a few scattered showers. we look ahead to the next several days. that takes us into and through the weekend as well. the weekend cool, breezy, sunday, the nicer of the two days and then we go back above average again. next week looking like a milder one and a pretty nice one as well. ups and downs the next several days before we get there. jean: a few of them. thanks, josh. well, a new approach to ptsd is happening right here in new england. josh: we'll take you to the

around new hampshire, but most of today's rain was concentrated in the southern half of the state. welcome back, folks, i'm josh mcelveen. jean: i'm jean mackin. the rain forces some cities to cancel their veterans day parades, the rain is good news. hayley lapoint can explain why. hayley: we desperately need the rain in southeastern parts of the state. here is a wrap-up of some of the totals. one of the highest areas i could fine, warner, 1.6, a little ways down the road, 1.14 inches. franklin, just under an inch, same thing in pelham point, 7.5 inches of rainfall. here is the latest on the drought. so in those areas where you see the yellow colors and that peach color, that's where we have either abnormally dry, so in the yellow areas or the peach color, you have what's called a moderate drought. that continues even now, so we made at least a little dent in
5:29 pm
in drought conditions in those areas. as far as manchester goes this gives you a good idea. since september 1, we have had 6.18 inches of rainfall. we are actually down over three inches of rain when you compare to where we should be in time in the fall. we still have a ways to go. we need a much heavier long-lived rainstorm to really catch up. josh judge has more on the forecasts in just a couple minutes. josh: a woman who is dying of cancer cannot get a registry card before the state opens marijuana dispensaries. linda has stage four lung cancer. she is suing the state to get a registry card now so she can get medical marijuana from dispensaries in maine. the law prevents h.h.s. from handling out cards until a registered and approved dispensary actually opens. that makes sure only accountable sources distribute it to residents.

underway to build a state memorial for members lost in the global war on terror. the group building the monument is still racing money and as adam sexton reports, they have enlisted the help of one of america's bravest soldiers. adam: at the state cemetery, new hampshire honors its heroes, monuments over 2 1/2 american centuries. those who gave their lives fighting for their country in iraq or afghanistan have yet to be memorialized. >> the global war on terror is my generation as war. adam: in 2014, ryan pitts of nashua received the "medal of honor" for extraordinary acts of heroism in combat in afghanistan. he is helping to race awareness for a new effort to build a memorial in boscawen to the grin it's state servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice in the war on terror. >> it serves several purposes.

5:32 pm
of honor," he was thinking of them. >> when the president was putting the award on, i was thinking about the guys. i was thinking directly in front of me the families, off to my left are almost all of the guys that were on the ground that day and i'm just, at that time i'm thinking about all of them. adam: while pitts' story is unique, the sacrifices he and his fellow soldiers are not. he is throwing his support behind this global terror memorial in boscawen. >> it's not about the servicemember on the wall and honoring their sacrifice, it honors the sacrifice that the family made and it shows the loved ones that their sacrifice hasn't been forgotten. adam: this advocate is leading to build the memorial, the hope is to unveil it next september. >> i personally escorted two gold star mothers over to the
5:33 pm
the memorial and they were definitely very, they appreciate what we're doing. adam: pitts says it will stand as a solemn reminder of what a select few are willing to sacrifice for all of us. >> think about the things that you enjoy every day, whether that's spending time with your children, being able to cook out in the backyard and get together with family and friends, enjoy holidays. all of those things are something that someone else gave up forever so we can have it. i take it for granted, but there are times i stop and appreciate the little moments with my son and that somebody made those sacrifices. adam: in boscawen, adam sexton, wmur news 9. jean: if you would like to support the memorial, you can find the link to the group's facebook page on wmur.com. they hope to have the monument in place by next september. josh: today in rochester, another example of veterans honoring one of their own.
