everything looks great on the northbound side. coming down on the southbound side, we are not seeing any delays down through the state. it looks great even at the bow junction at 93. we are seeing delays on 111 eastbound in the nashua area. but it is hasslefree getting into windham. 93 south in mass, we are slowing down. this report is being brought to you by peters honda, nissan, and kia of nashua. from the wzid traffic network, i' m deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. sean: the heroin epidemic in southern new hampshire has received a lot of attention, but it is also a serious problem up north. erin: nearly 300 people have died of drug overdoses in the granite state so far this year. seven of those have been in berlin. ray brewer is here with a closer look at the issue and the forum

ray: more than 200 50 people packing the cafeteria at berlin high school last night for a forum called facing heroin. school administrators say bruins high schools rate heroin use -- berlin' s high school heroin use is 93% higher than the state average. berlin police are responding to two or three overdoses every week. organizers of last night' s forum say the goal is to increase prevention efforts, treatment, and recovery options in the north country. there was a new chemical free prevention program at the high school aimed at keeping kids away from drugs. >> we are not sure we are necessarily going to see some major impact in those numbers this round. but we are committed to doing whatever we can to make a difference, so that those numbers do go down. ray: berlin' s police chief says

juvenile incidents are up 22%. he is blaming much of that on the drug problem. sean: thanks. state lawmakers have now created to focus on fast tracking bills dealing with the heroin crisis. the task force of 26 lawmakers will spend the next six weeks writing initiatives. those bills will focus on a variety of issues including treatment and drug courts. a could be passed into law by january. narcan is used to reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and the fda has approved an drug as a nasal spray. it could be less than half the cost of the injectable version. it delivers the same dose with a fraction of the liquid. erin: investigators in paris say the mastermind of last week' s deadly attacks was not arrested during a massive raid, but they

a suicide bomber and heavy gunfire were encountered. eight people were arrested, two were killed. a senior obama administration official tells abc news there are conflicting reports about whether the suspected ringleader of the attacks died in that raid . the u.s. is waiting for france to officially confirm. abc news, washington. erin: more than 100 students and faculty members gathered on the campus of unh to show support for the people of france last night. university president mark huddleston called the attacks an assault on values held dear at every college campus in america. there was a close call for a member of the university family. >> one of our faculty members actually was very close -- she was at a restaurant close to the restaurant that was the scene of the worst terrorist attack in paris and she is back in the country now.

parisians will be pre-regions -- france will keep cool. and reason will overcome. erin: a sign of the heightened awareness, there were several that vigil. sean: fire damage several vehicles at a car dealership in chichester last night. the driver involved in a fiery crash in rye has turned himself in. 21-year-old cory lowe flipped his suv and over and early tuesday morning -- end over end early tuesday morning. he ran off leaving a passenger behind with serious injuries. officers say speed and alcohol were factors. erin: four men face charges after an armed home invasion in rochester.

two of the men were armed with a gun and a box cutter when they entered an apartment on tuesday night. two people inside were forced to the floor and robbed. one victim says a gun was put to his head. the men were later arrested at a motel. a man who escaped from police and failed to show up for court is back in custody this morning. mark george was arrested last year in kingston, but climbed out the window of the police station. he was later found in massachusetts, but never showed up to court. u.s. marshals tracked him down to lawrence, massachusetts and say he has an extensive arrest history. sean: still to come, everything must go. dozens of people signed up to buy things once owned by convict tax evaders ed and elaine brown . erin: do you ever get cravings for a specific kind of food? there is an app for that. sean: dream wedding on the seacoast.

we will continue to see the temperatures work their way to back within a few degrees of 50 in the afternoon. then we are expecting dry conditions to last through a good part of the state for the morning hours. the system back out to our west moves closer. one or two breaks in the overcast, but a mostly cloudy sky. the mainline really starts to make its way into western areas around midafternoon. we will progress slowly eastward through the afternoon and the evening -- that is when the rainfall will be the best possibility. temperatures in a lot of locations, upper 30' s, lower 40' s, r 15-20 degrees milder than yesterday at this time. mount washington was warmer yesterday. as we look back to the west, the warmer temperatures are moving in today. then we skew cooler.

i temperatures today within a few degrees of 50 in the afternoon. inland sections may be a little milder toward the coast. we see the rainfall trying to edge in. everyone is into the heavier rainfall at some point this evening and overnight before eventually pulling away early tomorrow morning. the wind eventually turns to the west. any rainfall chances through the overnight hours tonight will lead to quit clearing tomorrow morning. -- quick clearing tomorrow afternoon. you can see that bout of heavier rainfall around overnight. we stop this around 6:00 in the morning one sunrise kicks in. the clearing skies trying to take hold quickly behind that. you get the theme for tomorrow. any early rain gives way to

the high school to talk about night and how to combat it. >> it is a community problem. when we identify a community community solution. ray: more than 250 people came together wednesday night to try to find solutions to new hampshire' s heroin epidemic. bob thompson of berlin public schools says the high school has one of the worst terror when abuse rates in the state. bob: i think there might be some connection with the socioeconomic status. i know that a lot of people have different opinions on why that is. we have a couple of prisons in town. i think we are all done here pointing outside of ourselves for finding a reason for it. ray: bruins police chief says his officers are responding to two or three overdoses per week.

the group "north country listens" posted the forum to increase prevention, treatment, and recovery in the north country. >> we probably are not going to walk away with a solution, but it is a step in the right direction of building community awareness and identifying local community actions to put us on the right path. ray: thompson said he is hoping that the new chemical free prevention programs at the high school will discourage students from using drugs. bob: we are not sure we are going to see some major impact in the numbers this round, but we are committed to doing whatever we can, partnering with whoever we can to make a difference so that the numbers do go down. ray: police believe the drug in crime in the city. burglaries are up 82% from last year. by 22%. ray brewer, wmur. accused of crashing his car in driving drunk.

48-year-old rene drapeau was heading north on pickering road around 6:00 last night when his car went off the road and slammed into a utility pole before rolling over. the road had to be shut down while the cracked bowl was repaired -- pole was repaired. erin: an investigation is underway into a deadly crash that happened around 7:30 tuesday night on burley hill road. the driver and his passenger were thrown from the car. the passenger, a 24-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. the driver was flown to the hospital, where he was in critical condition at last check. speed and alcohol are both believed to be factors in the crash. sean: republican presidential candidate jeb bush has a full day of events ahead of him in new hampshire. last night, he kicked off his visit at a house party in bedford. he called for replenishing the

ranks of the u.s. military and sending more troops to the middle east to fight isis. he says his experience offers the primary. jeb bush: when you get to the serious part of this, i think you are looking at the guy who is going to be the nominee. i know, or a fact, i have the skills to be able to beat the likely democratic nominee. sean: today, he will head to hampshire primary. he will also hold a town hall in londonderry tonight. george pataki also plans to file today. last major presidential tomorrow. s boy at the center of a death investigation in alexandria. the boy is 11-month-old shawn sylvester. police were forced called to a hot -- first called to a home he had been injured.

an autopsy has been completed, but the results are not yet been released pending further investigation. sean: a new poll shows that most with a proposal to extend commuter rail transport from boston to manchester. 74% of new hampshire residents support rail expansion. a different pull in february of in favor. if approved, it would create two rail stops in nashua and two in manchester. the plymouth community has stepped up to help the town complete its new ski jump -- high school complete its new ski jump. the original ski jump had to be torn down this year due to safety concerns. the new one should be finished by the end of next week. erin: the winning couple of the seacoast hitched heroes wedding contest is tied the knot.

lawmakers are set to vote on legislation to strengthen screening for refugees coming to the u.s. president obama already threatening a veto, right? nikole: that' s right. president obama says that syrian refugees already go through a vigorous vetting process and he said that lawmaker rhetoric does not jive with reality. his comments come as house republicans prepared to take up a bill to increase screening for syrian and iraqi refugees that would require them to undergo fbi background checks. democrats say the measure targets muslims, while republicans insisted is not a religious test. >> it would mean a pause in the program until we can be certain beyond any doubt that those coming here are not a threat. president obama: the overwhelming numbers who have complied our children and women,

nikole: even if the president vetoes the bill, the issue could come back because some conservatives want to attach it to a must pass spending bill, which could raise the chances of a government shutdown. sean: the issue is creating a lot of buzz in the 2016 presidential race. what are the candidates saying? nikole: today, we will hear more on hillary clinton' s plans to take on isis. she is giving a speech on national security. bernie sanders will address foreign policy. just yesterday, jeb bush put out his plan to deal with isis. donald trump has released a new radio ad. sean: thank you. erin: starting next year, high school juniors in new hampshire will be able to take the sat for free. the state department of education got the approval to replace the statewide assessment with a college board sat in the spring of 2016. the move is meant to better

careers and ensures that students in the state, regardless of their financial circumstances, will be allowed to take the sat, which typically costs more than $50. sean: today marks the 30th annual great american smoke out. the event encourages smokers to use the day to kick their habit or make a plan to quit. the society says about 42 million americans still smoke cigarettes and tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of disease and death in the u.s. cop has county has the highest percentage of smokers in new hampshire. merrimack county has the lowest percentage. erin: a small town in wisconsin is taking a new approach in tackling the issue of bullying in schools. the accused bully' s parents run the risk of being slapped with a fine. for the first offense, they are

given just a warning. >> they don' t know what to do. we will be able to provide them guidance. >> kids have disputes. yes. but this repeated behavior, where somebody is intentionally being malicious, that is when we are involved. erin: so far, police have not received any bullying complaints. sean: a couple of thieves in virginia made a surprising with a child inside. s mother left the boy in the car office. when she came back out, her car and her son were gone. within 15 minutes, police found the boy at his school. they say the thieves dropped them off. school unharmed, sitting in the classroom with a smile on his face. he said two guys got into the are here to take you to school,

sean: police say the thieves will likely be charged with kidnapping and grand larceny. but i guess it is a happy ending. erin: thank goodness nothing happened to the kid. sean: the celtics took on the dallas mavericks last night at td garden. erin: dirk nowitzki hit a three-pointer to close in on the celtics lead. down the stretch in the fourth, isaiah thomas dished to jared sullinger, who followed up and scored to put the celtics ahead. took the lead. the mavericks went on to win this one 106-102. the celtics host to the nets and play them on sunday. the los angeles kings have suspended manchester monarchs goalie patrik bartosak. the suspension comes after he was arrested on multiple domestic violence related charges.

according to police, he showed up at his girlfriend' s apartment in manchester, accusing her of cheating on him and assaulted her over the course of several hours. sean: check out this wacky video from the game between the jazz. in the ball got stuck behind the backboard. he started poking at it with a broom and then boom, right into the basket. the jazz went on to win the game. i' m just happy to know that even 6", [laughter] kevin: the center, apparently, [laughter] sean: get a broomstick. kevin: things like that happen. you have a backboard and things are going to get stuck in it occasionally. the clouds continue to race in. they will only thicken and lower during the morning hours.

lot more on the mild side as we walk out the door early this morning. into the afternoon, we have rain chances making their way in. it does not look all that impressive back to our west. mainly just show him shower activity -- some shower activity. a lot of this will continue to run up along this front. by the time that gets here into this evening, there could be some locally heavy rain. temperatures going from the upper 30' s to the lower 40' s, running 15-20 degrees milder than yesterday at this time and even warmer than the day before. we are looking at the milder temperatures for a couple of days before the front of cooler air eventually wins out later tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. there may be a stray shower before 11:00. the better chances are going to be after 1:00 or 2:00 in western areas and after 3:00 or 4:00 in

the mid-40' s in the north country to lower 50' s in there. you are on borrowed time. futurecast by lunchtime just pointing out a couple of showers , nothing heavy, nothing that is going to last that long. widespread rainfall, the better chances of locally heavy rain will be later on this evening. you can see that being depicted here. we stop this at about 6:00 tomorrow morning. right after the rainfall winds down, there is rapid clearing behind that. i think the wind out of the west shows that out of here. that is going to set us up with partly cloudy skies for a good part of the evening and overnight hours. by the time we get later into saturday evening, we will start to notice the next system starting to approach and it may be just cool enough that it could be in the form of a couple of mixed showers or a couple of areas of light snow for an hour
