manchester. police have made an arrest in connection with a deadly stick -- deadly shooting of michael pittman. it was killed outside his november 3. tom: the chief confirms that earlier this evening investigators took a manager custody on dartmouth street. they are not releasing his name at this point. on dartmouth right now. shelley: this comes just a few hours after surveillance photos were released of a man investigators wanted to talk to. we will continue to follow this breaking news story and bring you any details as they come into our newsroom. good evening, i' m shelley walcott. tom: the big story tonight, heavy rain moving into the granite state. you' re taking a live look in manchester where there' s just some light rain falling now. chief meteorologist mike haddad

tells us how long the rain will last. mike: just a quick moving system so that means it will be out in seven or eight hours. the rain may linger along the coast. look at the rainfall, we' re now up to orders of an inch in concord, 2.37 average through the day. that means were still 1.5 inches below average but all this rain moving in right now will put a dent in that deficit for the month of november, lightly averaging right at the norm by the time we get to do more afternoon. heavy rain building into the merrimack valley, especially in the heart of the lakes region and points south and west. we will look at the timeline on that in a sneak peek into the weekend in a few minutes. shelley: workers were cutting down trees in a merrimack neighborhood this afternoon when a tree fell over, crushing the house. a worker was tied to a tree. stephanie woods'

s live with what may have caused that accident. stephanie: the owner said the backyard, causing it to tip over. but the homeowner said she did not know it was there. tree works to cut down 20 trees road. thursday afternoon the crane hit a septic tank in the backyard was there. a sinkhole opened up, the crane the roof of the house. i said oh my god, i said the crane has tipped. i can see it through the window i said walter, the crane is right over. stephanie: she and her husband were inside the house when the crane smashed through the back roof. the crane missed them but a worker was left hanging from a tree. was hanging. i said oh, you've got to be kidding me. i felt so bad for the kid. stephanie: the homeowner has

lived in the house for 28 years but says she never knew about the old septic tank in the backyard. healey tree works says the climber had to jump down from the tree he was cutting to miss the crane. >> crane operator started yelling to our climber saying, ' it' s coming over. it' s going over. are you ok? and he was just holding on the tree as close as he could so he wouldn' t get hurt or killed and the next thing you know, he tried to boom and twist the crane, to miss him, but the bottom of the crane hit his foot and crushed it. stephanie: josh, one of the workers says the crew had been working since 7:00 thursday morning. and this was the last tree they were removing. >> took down 20 plus trees, last one just went haywire. it' s murphy' s law. stephanie: the owner of healey tree works says his climber is in the hospital with a broken foot but will hopefully be back to work in 4 to 6 weeks. the merrimack fire department

s snow melted, how much snow and cold will we be facing this year? our own meteorologist hayley lapoint has a look at our weather team' s winter forecast, and it may not be what you expected. haley: are we in for it, again? this was the scene from last year in southern new hampshire t soon be forgetting. our backs are still recovering from that 100 inches plus of snow some of us got. can we take another round this year? well, it looks like we won' t have to. el nino is back this winter and it' s one of the strongest on record. during an el nino, the water in the pacific ocean near the equator heats up. we can already tell this is going on because look at those , toasty temps, the ocean water is very warm. this crazy warmth likely even strengthened hurricane patricia a few weeks ago, you might remember that.

which ended up being the strongest hurricane ever in the eastern pacific and atlantic. el nino not only affects the weather globally but also right here in new hampshire. here is what a typical el nio does for the weather across the entire u.s.. the jet stream is nearly right on top of us or to the north. that means deep, arctic cold stays locked in place north of us and slightly mild air remains. it also means that while we will get storms rolling through, some may not produce just snow. these storms may become more of a messy mix. to get a better idea of what a strong el nino winter looks like here in new hampshire, we took a look back in time at the winter of 1997-1998. that winter, there was one big snow storm two days before christmas. here' s some video of the clean up in new london. >> we have no power at all in town. all the roads are closed.

is the ice storm of january 1998. areas in northern new england and new york were devastated. some people were out of power for weeks. that winter we ended up with 59.1 inches of snow. the average for concord is about 63 inches. you can see that here. given year. re comparing one winter here, this is a small sample size, but it of the 5 strong el nio' s all but one has had below average snowfall. temperatures for more than half of the of these strong el nino years was above average. here' s our forecast for the winter season. 2015-2016 temperatures will be fairly mild, not 70' s of course but a couple degrees warmer than usual. an active storm track tied to el nino should deliver storms, so

for a wetter season but keep in mind we may not get all snow. right now, it looks like the worst of winter may arrive after february. s, current ocean temperatures and weather patterns, this winter looks i' m meteorologist hayley lapoint, wmur news 9. tom: take all of that to the bank. mike: you can take part of that to the bank or leave part of it in a snow bank, if you want. it' s always interesting to follow, no question about it. we will see how it pans out. the overcast skies all day long did produce a little bit of rain, generally on the light, but now with his son, we' re seeing the clouds lingering and they are producing quite a bit of rain. the heaviest rain from the storm

is hitting right at this hour from the great north woods all the way down into the lakes region and points south and west. some of this rain coming down at a pretty good clip. i half inch to an inch by the time all is said and done. in manchester another batch of heavier rain entering the monadnock region right now and still more heavy rain through the great north woods. but back to the west, drier air. is reports of new york and pennsylvania, dealing with heavy rain. they were already seeing clearing skies and the back edge will move right through new hampshire through the early part of the morning commute. many can wake up to rain if you' re up early. upper 40' s, lower 50' s. temperatures on the mild side, still running above the average for daytime highs this time of year. overnight, we will hold for the most part in the 40' s to around 50 degrees. once we get beyond the rain early more morning, notice all

the years is that build it for the rest of the day and linger into saturday and saturday evening before a weak system approaches by early on sunday. right now showing the heavy rain , an inch or more in some spots. by early morning it' s all done with the clearing line right behind it. so a good part of the day will feature a lot of sun from west to east. tomorrow night, more the way of clear skies. about a half-inch of rain fall far north but a good for the state of to an inch and a half by the time we get through early tomorrow morning. the rain coming down over the queen city, lingering through the predawn and winding down in time for the morning commute. once we get past 6:00 or 7:00, the rain will shut off weekly. right into sunshine and the temperatures jumping to the upper 50' s in many spots. the next system holds off until
