erin: now on "daybreak," on high alert. concerns are growing about more terror attacks both in europe and in the u.s. security is tight. kevin: with clearing skies this morning comes a chilly breeze for the day. we'll look ahead for the weather for your busy travel day and your holiday weekend coming up. sean: get your skis and snow boards ready. several local ski areas are firing up and hope to open this week. >> they have done so much for the community. erin: friends are remembering two people killed in a head-on crash over the weekend.

in the community. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good morning to you. thanks for joining us on this monday. i'm erin fehlau. sean: good morning. i'm san mcdonald. i can't believe i'm saying this again. we're at thanksgiving week. it is like you blinked an eye. kevin: temperatures in the 30's. the breeze today is going to have a certain chill through the afternoon. we had a storm system move just off shore overnight. it skipped across south eastern areas. temperatures in the 30's and clears skies. it is going to feel cooler in south eastern spots. we'll look a string of sunny days and when that winds down coming up. we're joined live by deb davidson. good morning, deb.

deb: good morning, kevin. right now if you are starting your early morning commute, 93 is looking good in both directions. making your way from north of the notch down to the hooksett tolls from concord in to salem. 293 is moving well through the mill yard and even at lane shifts between exits five and the everett turnpike. 101, 111, and the spaulding are all up to speed and moving well. if you are commuting in to boston, all major roads in the state of massachusetts are up to speed and incident free. this report is brought to you by peter's honda, nissan, and kia of nashua. i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. sean: thanks. with the nights getting colder, the local ski areas are firing up the snow guns. trails will be open soon. erin: that includes loon mountain in lincoln. snow was flying through much of the weekend. ray brewer more on the preparation on the slopes.

slopes and not on the roads. breton woods hopes to open on tuesday. loon plans to open at the slopes on wednesday. at loon about a dozen people fired up the snow tabuns overthe weekend making the snow on 11 trails working from the top down. their targeted opening was a little later than last year. mid november is still fairly normal for loon to have enough snow. it takes a lot of work to get everything ready. >> we've been preparing ifer this season since we shut down the system at the end of last season. there's literally nine months of may maintenance and preparation for this weekend. >> temperatures are forecasted to be cold and great. yeah. we're all looking forward to wednesday. that's what we plan on. ray: now it is not clear how many trails will be open when the ski resort opens. that all depends on the weather. several ski areas in new hampshire hope to open by the end of next weekend.

obama and russia's president against isis. stephanie ramos, abc news, washington. erin: a man who worked in a camp counselor was laid to rest after he was killed in a terror attack in israel. 1,000 people turned out schwartz. he was killed last week delivering food. they will remember schwartz for his faith, devotion to his family, and his smile. >> i'm more frustrated than mad than upset. he has his whole life ahead of him. from him. they just took it away from him. he had so much more to give. erin: schwartz had been studying in israel. he worked at camp yavneh in northwood. he planned to return next year. sean: firefighters tried to destroy dozens of animals.

shelter from paxton just outside of wooster was enbuffed. they were able to save five dogs, but seven others died along with 30 cats. it is not clear how the fire started. donations and supplies are pouring in. two dogs died sunday a bedroom. they were called yesterday afternoon. no people were hurt. there's smoke damage throughout the home. the fire chief says the fire was accidental. erin: we're learning new details about two well known people killed in a crash saturday night in antrim. 76-year-old janet withington and 63-year-old james bouchard were beloved and can never be replaced. jim was always ready to help anyone. janet was a dedicated, compassionate nurse. >> jim was one of the kindest guys i know. whether it was an old

person or someone who -- i'll just just -- he would do many things for people. >> she didn't have a mean bone in her body. she was so caring about everybody, co-workers, especially her patients. erin: several people gathered to remember the couple. saturday's head-on crash remains under investigation. neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors. a boston man accused of master minding a scheme known as cat fishing is due in court today. rakeen austin made fake dating profiles to lure people. he targeted eight people since october. they think there are more victims. sean: a new abc news "washington post" poll shows bernie sanders gaining ground in the race. the vermont senator gained nine points after vice president joe biden announced he will not run. hillary clinton still holds a sizable lead. sanders has gained 13

kevin: monday morning, november 23rd. temperatures in the upper range of the 30's this morning. there had been a few rain showers overnight. looking at quick clearing this morning setting up a bright and brisk afternoon. the cooler air around for the first half of the week before he start turning milder again. details on the busy travel day and thanksgiving coming up. sean: efforts to help everyone have a delicious meal are kicking in to high gear. erin: volunteers yesterday put together all of the ingredients for more than 60 dinners. each of those meals will go to a family in need in the local community. >> we help out year round. we have a student pantry. they can get free snacks, school supplies, food to take home if

they need it. at thanksgiving, we get to take care of the whole family. erin: most of the donations came from students at spaulding. a local church put together 16 of the baskets. >> thanksgiving means spending time with family. there are more house fires on thanksgiving than any other day of the year. the vast majority are the result of cooking. officials say if you are cooking, wear short or tight fitting sleeves. make sure to set a timer on your turkey and keep your oven and cooking surfaces clean as well. you tend to be a little bit distracted on turkey day. keep an eye on the hot stove. erin: i had no idea it was such a busy day for firefighters. 5:13. coming up as you are making your christmas shopping list, be ware there are a few things that could be extremely hard to find. sean: the odds were in their favor. it's been her fight for twenty something is wrong with our

erin: two groups of people opened fire on each other last night in a playground in new orleans. 14-year-old girl. it is not clear how serious the injuries are. witnesses say the gunman ran off before officers arrived. hundreds of people gathered to take part in or watch a music video production at the time. police think the shooting may have been gang related. one of only four northern white rhinos left in the world pasted away. nola, a 41-year-old female, died after battling several health problems. the other other northern white rhinos are in a closely guarded preserve in kenya. they hope to use white rhinos as surrogate mothers to produce a calf within 15 years. sean: "the hunger games" back on

"spectre" was a distant second followed by "the peanuts movie." erin: apple says the pencil stylist and smart keyboard are both sold out. there's a four to five week waiting period. you can buy them on e-mail. with the demand, they are going for as much as $650. there's also a possible lego shortage. only in europe. sales were up 18%. production is struggling to keep up with all of the demand. there's now a black market for the plastic bricks. front for thanksgiving and for friday as well. you'll notice the last of the higher and mid level clouds continuing to make their way out of new hampshire along with the light shower that is were around in south earn areas during the evening hours. cooler air tries to arrive. clouded over with the lake effect snow machine going in some areas down northwesterly breeze that's going this morning back out to the west. you'll notice temperatures are in the 30's. we have the breeze to two along with it. wind chills down in the to -- 20's. wind chill in mt. washington 16. breeze. stained. 10-15 miles an hour. some occasional gusts. if you are outdoored, you want to dress for that. air will be around tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow evening. then a moderating trend back to the west starts to make its way in. for today, highs in the 30's to near 40 degrees with wind chills in the 20's through the afternoon.

sean: it is that time of year. many store fronts are showing off the special holiday protects. for macy's that includes pets. erin: this is the 29th year that macy's has featured cats and dogs from a local shelter in their holiday window. the displays are temperature controlled and have plenty of food and water for the animals. all the animals are ready to be adopted. sean: i assume a lot of people go home with an animal.

saturday. >> the air compressors are compressing the air at 90p.s.i. we have a large water system. ray: sunday night they focused on 11 trails beginning at the elevations. >> we've been preparing since we shut down the system the end of the last season. there's nine months of maintenance and the preparation for this weekend. >> we've got new hampshire's most powerful snow making system. temperatures are getting consistently cold now. ray: the mountain will open slightly later, they are excited to kick off the winter season. they hope to have another successful year. >> it feels great. standing out here. you can see your breath. everybody gets that that chill in the air. it really gets you excited. sean: loon mountain is not the only ski area. bretton woods plans to

open tomorrow. cranmore and cannon mountain set to open on friday. pats peak is scheduled to open on december 5th. you can check out when other ski areas are planning to open for the season by heading to skinew hampshire.com. in the studio, ray brewer. sean: thanks. already here. manchester police asking for your help in tracking down an armed robber. the man seen here held up the corner market around 8:30. the robber appeared to be armed with a knife or box cutter when he demanded cash. the suspect took off after gets money. the robber is described as a white man, possibility in his 20's. he was wearing a black ski mask, white sweatshirt, and gray gloves with black tips. erin: a woman accused of kidnapping a little girl is scheduled to face a judge today. lyndon albers was released from the hospital yesterday. her parents reported her missing early friday

morning. lyndon's former babysitter, 21-year-old abigail hanna, broke into the family's home in hamilton, massachusetts and kidnapped the girl. hours later someone was heading to work when they found the girl naked. >> they didn't know it was a girl. they thought it was a boy. they didn't know until they started putting the pieces together. erin: abigail hanna is scheduled to be arraigned on kidnapping and assault and battery on a child. sean: plenty of people will be doing holiday shopping online. rochester police say they take several reports of people having packages stolen right from their door steps. they say you can help prevent this by requesting a signature on your deliveries, signing up for an e-mail alert that will notify you, or choosing an alternative place, like work, for your packages to be delivered to.

erin: donald trump is igniting another media fire storm with a comment that he made on abc yesterday, calling in to this week with george stephanopoulos. the real estate mogul refused to run out a third party. this comes after he signed a pledge. he says he has to be treated fairly by the republican party. local supporters say by not ruling out a run, he's merely guarding against internal party attacks. >> he didn't say he would. there. because he was asked. he can use that on a club on rnc not to start playing dirty politics. erin: supporters say they don't believe trump will have to launch the third party run, because they expect he will be the republican nominee. lindsey graham is planning to make stops

in saturday's landslide. they are still pulling bodies out of the rubble. more than 100 people remain missing. a slide happened near the jade mine. sean: police in new york have recovered some of the weapons stolen from an armory. the spokesperson says a homeland man was collecting bottles and cans when he discovered a trash bag with three of the stolen guns. a man was arrested wednesday night and charged with stealing 16 weapons from that armory. erin: new research shows that eating breakfast is not only good for your health, it can help improve the grades. public health experts found that students who eat a healthy breakfast are twice as likely to get a above average assessment score. eating unalethia teems like sweets or potato chips had no positive impact. the study is drawing evidence that what people eat affects how

consecutive wins improving to 7-4. new hampshire will host colgate in the first round on saturday, november 28th at cowell stadium. erin: dozens of people turned out in hanover yesterday for the turkey trot fun run. it features a 10k and fun run for kids. the upper valley running club collected more than 100 sneakers for recycling. sean: looks like a nice day for running. we have been featuring local products made here. erin: we head to show you a family business that allows the public to get in on the fun. terrapin glassblowing studio is located off of route 202. the family business was launched in december, 2011. >> they were looking for some place to do more glass blowing. there was no place local. we decided to create our own glass blowing studio.

phenomenon experience in blowing glass. erin: dominque and her helper took some type to show us how they create one of the more popular pieces. they do everything from hand from blowing out the glass, torching it, and in the process that timing is everything. >> you get the holes or cracks. you have to start over. erin: not only does terrapin make and teach glass blowing, they bring in other local artists. >> so far we have the glass working and frame working, felting, blacksmithing, mixed media. so it is really great. it is really exciting. erin: one of the more special pieces are unique custom memorials. >> once somebody has been cremated, they send us a little bit of ashes. i can put them in memorials. it might help them with
