erin: now on "daybreak," on high alert. concerns are growing on more terror attacks both in europe and in the u.s. security is tight. kevin: clearing skies coming a chilly breeze. we'll look ahead for the weather for your busy travel day and holiday weekend coming up. sean: get your skis and snow boards ready. several local ski areas are firing up and hope to open this week. >> both in their own ways have done so much for the community. erin: friends are remembering two people killed in a head-on crash in antrim over the weekend. they say they will leave a void in the community. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9

daybreak." erin: it is a bit rainy yesterday. looks like we're going to get some sunshine today. sean: eventually it is going to turn mild. not today. it is going to be chilly. kevin: next four or five days a good deal of sunshine. looks like that extends through the end of the workweek itself. from there, the changes start to weed their way back in by the time we get toward the weekend. we start off early with the morning with the clearing skies. a storm system moved across south eastern area with a couple of showers. we start the day in the 20's up north. in the mid 30's in southern spots. only ebbing up a couple of degrees today with a chilly breeze counteracting the mostly sunny sky we'll have in to the afternoon before much colder nights are set up. all of the details coming up in just a bit. let's look at your monday morning ride right here in the granite state. join live by deb davidson. good morning, deb. deb: good morning. right now if you are starting your early morning commute on this monday morning all major roads in the state of

open tomorrow. it wasn't great snow making weather. hay plan to open the slopes on wednesday. at loon about a dozen people firing up the snow guns over the weekend working from the topdown. their targeted opening is later than last year. mid november still fairly normal for loon to have enough snow. it takes a lot of work to get everything ready. >> we've been preparing if there are season since we shut down the system the end of last season. there's literally nine months of maintenance and preparation for this weekend. >> temperatures are forecasted to be cold and great. yeah. we're all looking forward to wednesday. that's what we plan on. : it is not clear how many trails will be open. that all depends on the weather. several ski areas in new hampshire hope to open by the end of next weekend. in the studio, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: the city of brussels is on high alert this morning amid

concernings that groups allied with isis may be planning a terror attack there. several people were arrested over the weekend and hundreds of troops are patrolling the streets. meanwhile with the holiday week underway here in the u.s., security is being stepped up wherever crowds gather. >> american cities on edge. >> it makes you question definitely every loud noise. reporter: in atlanta, police saying they received information about a threat over the pro wrestling event. nothing happening here. americans alert and caution more than a week after the paris terror attacks. even on flights. the southwest airlines diverted because of suspicions about several passengers. >> terrorists groups are always looking for the target that is are softer that have lots of people that are difficult to secure. reporter: in new york city, n.y.p.d. offices swarming the subway station, guns drown, during the plan drill simulating an active underground.

>> these exercises are vitally necessary. in new york city, we are, at this time, very well prepared. reporter: and in europe for the third day in a row, brussels the capitol of the small european nation and home to nato put on the highest terror warning. >> christmas tree. armored vehicle. that's not normal. reporter: police on the lookout. cinemas and schools closed. amidst of the lockdown, the manhunt growing for salah abdehsalam. he went to paris following the attack. he was not one of 22 people raided. the government extending a state of emergency for three months. today french president, francois hollande will meet with david cameron and later president obama. he will try to pit president obama and

vladmir putin, against isis. erin: a man killed in a terror attack in israel was laid to rest. nearly 1,000 people turned out for the funeral of ezra schwartz. he was killed while delivering food to soldiers in the west bank. they will remember schwartz for his faith, his devotion to his family, and his smile. >> i'm more frustrated and mad than upset. because he has his whole life ahead of him. someone stole his life from him. they just took it away from him. he has so much more to give. erin: schwartz had been studying in israel. he worked at camp yavneh in north wood. they planned to return next year. sean: firefighters tried to save dozens of animals. the animal rescue shelter just engulfed when crews arrived there. firefighters and volunteers were able to

save five dogs. seven others died along with 30 cats. right now it is not clear how the fire started and donations and supplies are already pouring in to help the shelter recover. two dogs died sunday when fire broke out. yesterday afternoon. no people were hurt. there's smoke damage throughout the home. the fire chief says the fire was accidental. erin: we're learning new details about two well known people killed in a crash saturday night in antrim. friends say 67-year-old janet withington and 63-year-old james bouchard were beloved replaced. jim was always ready to help anyone. janet was a dead indicated and compassionate nurse in hopkinton. >> jim was one of the kindest people i know. he would do many things for people. >> she didn't have a

mean bone in her body. she was so caring about everybody. co-workers, especially her patients. erin: several people gathered last night to remember this couple. saturday's head-on crash remains under investigation. police say neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors. sean: a new abc news "washington post" poll shows bernie sanders gaining ground in the race for the democratic nomination. the senator gained nine points after joe biden announced he will not run. hillary clinton still holds a sizable lead. points in the last month. not much as changed. donald trump remains the front runner with 32% followed by ben carson at 22%. and terrorism is now one of the most race. a third of those surveyed say the economy is the top issue. terrorism is a close second as you can see. the poll was conducted

kevin: monday morning, november 23rd. is debts up a bright and brisk day. temperatures putting on the breaks in the 30's to near 40 degrees through the afternoon. we're going to look at a warming trend. along with it, a good deal of sunshine. all of the details coming up. sean: i know i've said this. thanksgiving is just a few days away. efforts to help everyone are kicking in to high gear. erin: they are. volunteers put together for more than 60 dinners. each of those meals will go to a family in need in the local community. >> we help out year around here. we have a student food pantry that serves the students. all year round we can take care of the kids. they can get free snacks and free school supplies and have food to take home with them if they need it. at thanksgiving, we get to take care of the whole family. erin: most of the donations come

church put together 16 of the baskets. sean: that's great. for many people, thanksgiving means spending time with family. fire officials say there are more house fires than any other day of the year. the vast majority are a result of cooking. officials say if you are cooking, wear short or tight fitting sleeves, make sure to set a timer on your turkey, and keep your oven and cooking surfaces clean. a reminder that so many first responders have to work on thanksgiving as well. erin: my family is happy that i'm not cooking. not kitchen causing a fire. are you making your christmas shopping list? there are a few things that could be hard to find. sean: the odds were in their

erin: 16 people were hurt when two groups of fire opened fire at a playground. one of the victims is a 14-year-old girl. it is not clear how serious the injuries are. the gunman ran off before officers arrived. hundreds of people gathered to take part in or watch the music video production. police think the shooting may have been gang related. one of only four northern white rhinos believed to be left in the world has passed away. nola, a 41-year-old female died yesterday at a zoo after battling several health problems. the only other are in a closely guarded preserve in kenya. they hope to use southern white rhinos as surrogate mothers to years. sean: the hunger games are back on top at the box office. "mocking jay:part ii" was easily the top movie million.

it is the fifth largest debut of the year. it is well below the first weekend of "mocking jay: part i." "specter" followed by the "peanuts movie." erin: apple says the pencil stylist and smart keyboard for the ipad pro are both sold out. there's a four to five week waiting period. ebay. with the demand, the styluses are going for $650. there's also a possible lego shortage. right now only in parts of europe. sales in the first half of the year were up 18% thanks in large part to the lego movie. production is struggling to keep up. there's even now a black market for these plastic bricks. ed good news it appears that u.s. retailers should have enough to

the holidays. sean: phew. i'm cue yous about the black market. we have to get amy coveno to cover the story. kevin: a fantastic visual image. where they could sell them. erin: the play ground. kevin: the shady guy across the street. you wonder. erin: i can't believe they are in short supply. they are everywhere. kevin: they are everywhere. including at erin's house. we start off with the clear skies out there. the clearing skies across the area setting up what should be a lot of sunshine today. a breeze out of the northwest. which will be a factor into the afternoon gusting at times over 15 to even 20 miles an hour. it sets up the coolest air that we've had so later tonight. a lot of areas will be teens. if you don't get in to the teens tonight, you have a good chance tomorrow evening. the storm system which scraped across the south eastern areas with a few showers now long gone and pulling away.

that leaves us with a huge amount of real estate minus lake effect snow going back out to the pacific northwest for the next system which doesn't arrive until friday or early saturday. temperatures in the upper range of the 20's. mid 30's in southern spots. breeze today will be noticeable. out of the north, north/west. it will go at times 20 miles an hour. that continues to bring in the cooler air out of canada which will be out there before wednesday before we start to turn the corner at the end of the week. the coolest of the air going down in to florida. it is not just us here in the northeast with at the glancing blow of the arctic air. it is all the way through the deep south. temperatures today 30's to lower range of the 40's. with the breeze though, it is going to feel a lot cooler than this. you have to bear in mind, these are the high temperatures for a brief moment. then with the clear sky and the lighter winds tonight, it is teens to lower to mid 20's for most. then tomorrow we'll be looking at sunshine

across the area. lighter of the a breeze out of the west and northwest. it is 30's to lower range of the 40's. another clear, cold night as we work our way through tuesday and in to early wednesday. you'll notice how the clouds that we have start to turn instead of moving from west to east. they start to turn more southerly. eventually southwesterly. that's the area of high pressure. eventually means lighter winds and a warming trend for the end of the week. where temperatures start to get back in to the lower range of the 50's. then in to the 50's statewide forker black friday before cooler air tries to arrive over the weekend. high temperatures in the mid to upper 30's. it comes with a good deal of sunshine. the breeze, which will make it feel cooler than that. everyone dropping back into the teens and 20's. as cold as 12 or 13 in parts to maybe around 250 closer to the shoreline. maybe right out at the manchester boston regional airport. the extended forecast

shows the next four days warmer than the day before. overnight lows doing the same. there will be a shower late friday night or saturday morning. that's the leading edge of cooler air. temperatures will start falling saturday afternoon and likely will continue to do so through sunday. highs may not be much out of the 30's. erin: mother nature being kinder to us. kevin: it certainly looks that way. sean: don't ask me any questions, but i was able to find the leeing -- legos. no questions. several ski areas hope to open for business. they fired up the snow guns at loon. there's a few days -- that's a few days later than last year. friends and neighbors gathered to remember a couple from hillsborough who died in a head-on crash. janet withington and james bouchard were very well known around town. a man who worked as a camp counselor in

>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good morning to you. we're waking up to some cloudy skies out there. here's a live look at portsmouth. it is now 36 degrees. we are expecting to see the sunshine later on today though. monday. kevin will talk the forecast in a moment. first the top stories. manchester police are on the lookout for an armed robber that held up a street last night. a massachusetts woman accused of kidnapping and assaulting a child he used to babysit is expected to make a court appearance today. ski areas across the state are getting ready to open for the season. several mountains are planning to open this week. erin: what kind of deal did you

about a dozen began making snow on saturday. >> the air compressors are compressing the air at 90 p.s.i. we have a large water pumping system that will pump water up the mountain. ray: sunday night they focused on 11 trails beginning at the summit where it is coldest and working towards lower elevations. >> we've been preparing for the season since we shut down the system last season. there's nine months of maintenance and preparation for this weekend. >> we've got new hampshire's most powerful snow making system. temperatures are getting consistently cold now. ray: the mountain will open slightly later than last year, they are excited to kick off the winter season. they hope to have another successful year. >> it feels great. standing out here. you can see your breath. everybody gets that buzz. that chill in the air. it really gets you exciteed.

ray: loon mountain is not the only one, breton woods, cranmore, gunnstock plans to open december 4th, pats peak is scheduled to open on december 5th. you can check out when other ski areas are planning to open for the season by heading to skinh.com. in the studio, ray sean: thanks. manchester police are asking for your help in tracking down an armed robber. the man seen here in the surveillance pictures held up shawn's corner market around 8:30 last night. the clerk told officers the robber appeared to be armed with a knife or box cutter when he demanded cash. the suspect took off after getting some money. no one was hurt. the robber is described as a white man in his to -- 20's. he was wearing a black ski mask, white sweatshirt, and gray gloves with black tips. erin: a woman accused of

court. lyndon albers was released from the hospital. her former babysitter, 21-year-old abigail hanna, broke into the family's home in hamilton, massachusetts and kidnapped the girl. hours later a couple was headed to work when they found the girl naked road. >> they didn't know it was a girl. they thought it was a boy because the hair was shaved. they didn't know until they started putting the pieces together who it was. erin: abigail hanna is scheduled to be arraigned on kidnapping and assault and battery of a child. this morning the family released a statement saying quote we are grateful to have our daughter back. we are extremely thankful for the incredible efforts to rescue our daughter by the police and all of the emergency responders. we are extremely grateful to the kind couple who found our daughter. sean: plenty of people will be

police are reminding you to be vigilant when having packages delivered. they take several reports of people having packages stolen. you can help prevent this by requesting a significant on your deliveries, signing up for an e-mail alert that will notify you, or choosing an alternative place, like work, for your packages to be delivered to. erin: donald trump is igniting another media fire storm with a comment that he made on abc yesterday. calling in to this week with george stephanopoulos, he refused to rule out a third-party run. that comes after trump signed a pledge in early september to not run as an independent. he now says he has to be treated fairly by the republican party. by not ruling out a run, he's merely guarding against internal party attack. >> he didn't say he would.

he just left it out there because it was asked. he can use that as a club on the rnc not to start playing dirty politics with him again. they would love to. erin: supporters say they do not believe trump will have to launch a third party candidacy. they expect he will be the republican nominee. in other commitment news, a couple of other candidates will be in new hampshire today. lindsey graham is planning to make stops in hillsborough, keene, and rindge, and martin o'malley has events planned in bedford, rindge, and exeter. sean: the national firefighters are announcing their support for operation warm. it raises money to provide new coats for needy children. each coat cost $34. they identified 34,000 children living in poverty. if you would like to give the gift of warmth to a less fortunate

they are increasing the counterterrorism with britain announcing it may join the airstrikes in syria. >> we have begin to intensify our strikes. we're going to choose tarts that make as much damage as possible. nikole: for the meeting, it comes as belgium is on lockdown. schools and subways are shut down following the terror raids that resulted in 16 arrests. tomorrow hollande comes to the white house. president obama's strategy is coming under quite a bit of fire on capitol hill. this has many cities beef up their security ahead of the thanksgiving day holiday. the head of homeland security says there's no specific or credible intelligence about a paris-style attack. sean: with the holidays, what else is being done in terms of security? nikole: homeland security encourages

the family business was launched in december, december,2011 by dominque casey. >> we were looking to do some glass blowing. there was no place local. we decided to create our efferent dominque and her helper showed us how to create a glass piggy bank. they do everything by hand from blowing out the glass, torching it, and blowing it out. a process in which timing is everything. >> then the glass gets cold, it is going to crack. it will start warping and lose the shape. erin: not only do take make and teach, they bring in other local artists to teach their crafts. >> so far we have a glass artist, flame working artist, felting, blacksmithing, stone working, mixed media.

"chronicle." you can do this. it would take some practice. look what you can do. details on the thing. look at the tail. i love the tail on this guy. kevin: no two ever the same. you'll notice they are holding them. i am not. erin: are you nervous? sean: ever since the incident. kevin: it is live tv. you have to not take fate in to someone's hands. very beautiful and local. erin: they are. really cool. kevin: we start off with the clearing skies across the area. you'll notice the last in eastern and south eastern areas they had a few showers. most of that in liquid form. temperatures in the upper 30's. farther west and north, we have quite a bit more in the way of clearer skies. what will be a bright and brisk day. winds will bust at 15-20 miles an hour. that continues to bring in the cooler air. coming with it though, this is the trade off, is a big area of high pressure. which eventually return flow around that brings

us a warm up for the second half of the week. the next system is just moving its way in to the pacific northwest. we have a lot of time between now and then. extra clouds develop because of the lake effect. temperatures have been settling back through the 30's early this morning. there's some 20's in some of the sheltered valleys out west and farther north you go. we'll edge up by four or five degrees in most locations which puts folks between 28 in far northern spots to the upper range of the 30's in southern areas. eventually with the afternoon comes the sunshine and that breeze out of the northwest. at times today it is going to gust over 20 to 25 miles an hour at times. again very slow, steady climb. then with clearer skies and lighter winds, temperatures will start falling off. we're in the teens up north to lower and mid 20's by the time we get going tomorrow morning. it is going to be a couple of colder nights. area of high pressure

means good traveling weather. a lot of sunshine expected through the day on wednesday. the turning point for us is wednesday night and early thursday. the area of high pressure that will be overhead over the next couple of days starting to move off shore. you'll notice the clouds starting to move more southerly. then as i mention next system located all the way out of the pacific northwest doesn't arrive here with just a couple of showers until late friday night or in to early saturday. temperatures in the 30's out there. probably holding there through the day. bear in mind the breeze is going to make it feel cooler than that. there will be a lot of wind chills in the 20's. as the wind starts to lighten, back into the teens to lower to mid 20's. each of the next four days and through friday we warm up each of those days. we're looking at temperatures for overnight lows and highs. by the time we get to friday, we peak in the 50's. temperatures will start falling saturday afternoon and sets up the cooler air for the remainder of the
