upgraded charges against the square skuires -- >> state police investigators followed the evidence that led them from bridgewater where miss bortner's body was found to dorchester and onto new hampshire. report it's been three weeks since the body of 29-year-old ashley bortner of new jersey was found burned along railroad tracks in bridgewater, massachusetts. investigators now think that 43-year-old fernando owens of dorchester killed her, believing she was involved in the shooting death of his son the night before. authorities say that owens and julian squires are long-time friends and that the charges against squires and have been upgraded. >> we believe the couple was involved in the disposal of the body. reporter: the two were arraigned

on charges of lying to police and misleading investigators. >> she said they were never in bridgewater that night and denied ever meeting her. reporter: a combination of witness sightings of a black s.u.v. and cell phone pings police say contributed to charges of being accessories after the fact of murder. >> sphen records indicate that the squires were in the bridgewater area at the time the police received the 911 call. reporter: police say the investigation is not over and that more charges could be filed. meantime tonight the primary focus is on the manhunt for fernando owens who they believe is armed and dangerous. tom: the st. paul prep school student who was convicted of sexually assaulting a classmate is now on vermont's sex offender registry. owen labrie was sentenced to a year in jail but remains free on bail while he appeals. mike cronin joins us live now with more on what this means. reporter: after his conviction,

labrie's attorneys filed to prevent him from being required to register as a sex offender but were unsuccessful. the 20-year-old had to register immediately in his home state and that process is now done and the registry paid shows a picture of labrie taken yesterday. his location is listed as his home town in vermont where he's staying with his parents. he's following a curfew during the appeals process which could take years. prosecutors said labrie learned a then 15 -- lured a then 15-year-old freshman into an area of the school and sexually assaulted her. in a mixed verdict jurors found him guilty of a felony charge of prohibited use of a computer and misdemeanor sexual assault charges. while the appeals process is ongoing the judge said that the appeal is only for the suspended felony sentence of three and a half to seven years and that labrie will still have to serve a year for the misdemeanor sex assault. labrie will be able to apply to be removed from the registry 15 years after serving his sentence.

jennifer: the man who needed guilty to his involvement in a deadly crash that killed his girlfriend now says it was caused by a defect in the car. robert pitts pleaded guilty in 2013 to several charges including negligent homicide. he was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison. but his family now says they have uncovered evidence that the car he crashed was part of a recall, a problem with the ignition switch could cause the engine to shut off. an expert testified about the problems that could create. >> you would lose your power steering, with the brakes if you pump the brakes more than a few times you'd lose your vacuum booster and you wouldn't have the ability to use -- well, you would, but would it be much more difficult to apply your brakes. reporter: he add in addition the airbag wouldn't deploy, but admitted under cross-examination that this failure did not cause the car to go off the road. tom: right now a multicar crash slowing down traffic in

involved on canal street. one person suffered serious injuries. tow trucks are removing the cars so that side of the road can be reopened. two women trapped in their cars on a busy manchester bridge after they hit head on of it happened shortly before 11:00 this morning, the jaws of life had to be used to rescue them. the van crossed the center line, hitting the car. the woman in the van was unconscious when first responders got there. and came to as they removed her from the vehicle. but a witness says the woman in the car was talking and frantic. >> she was just get me out of here, get me out of here, my leg my leg my leg. and it was sad, she was stuck. tom: police say that woman was med flighted to boston with serious injuries to her lower body, the other woman taken to a local hospital. that accident still under investigation tonight. jennifer: to the weather and a few flurries to the north. chilly to the south. but the all clear has been given for thanksgiving travel.

all, and instead how about a warmup. chief meteorologist mike haddad takes a look ahead. mike: looks good and sounds good for that warmup. many will be heading out not only tomorrow but into thanksgiving day and friday, and the warming trend carries us into that stretch. here are the flakes flying a cross the great north woods and white mountains. they'll dissipate in the next couple hours. region wide we've got the winter chill all over the place, lower 30's for many, mid to upper 30's manchester and along the coast. notice how skies are clear over southern new england. eventually the clouds over the granite state will give way to clearing and all the fair skies to our west move in for the big travel day tomorrow. manchester, mostly sunny, light winds, mid 40's for afternoon highs. and across a good part of the northeast from new york to philly and d.c., all the way back to chicago, upper 40's and lower 50's will do it with fair skies and no weather headaches in terms of traveling for the day tomorrow.

weekend? that's ahead. tom: in tonight's commitment 016 coverage, the new hampshire ballot law commission heard challenges to several candidates who applied to be on the presidential primary ballot. jennifer: the challenges came against both democrats and republicans. wmur's andy hershberger is here with what the commission decided. reporter: the commission made it clear today that they don't get into constitutional issues. their only responsibility is to make sure everything was filed properly where the secretary of state's office. the challenge to bernie sanders' run for president in the democratic primary came by phone from san francisco, where republican andy martin said the senator from vermont is in fact an independent and should not be allowed to run as a democrat. >> they want to talk out of both sides of their mouth. bernie wants to be an independent on one side of the street and he wants to be a democrat on the other side of the street. reporter: the argument was made

today to the ballot law commission, where martin cited a federal website that lists sanders as an independent. but those representing sanders today said all of his paperwork was in order when he filed as a democrat and the state party recognizes him as such. >> we fundamentally believe that it's the responsibility of the political parties to determine who can be their candidates and who can participate in the primary. so the basis of his challenge we reject. reporter: the commission unanimously agreed with buckley democrat. there was also a challenge to donald trump's run on the republican side, brought forward by former new hampshire colin. >> there is lots of evidence republican. he certainly does not represent the views of the republican party. reporter: but the commission chairman bread ford cook said their sole task is to determine if trump's filing was legal and accurate, which they say it was.

straight through december 11. mike: storm watch 9 tracking storm-free weather across new found lake today. take a look at the fair skies from sunup to sundown there were some clouds that did build in from the west northwest through the midday and afternoon, but it did remain dry except in the north country. there you can see the snow showers hitting portions of the great north woods into the mount washington valley, outside of that it does remain snow-free here in the month of november. how about those snow stats for concord in november? of course none so far this november. the average snowfall this month is 4 inches, and the record set way back in 1921 at 20.1 inches of snow. last november we all recall the big snowstorm just prior to thanksgiving day, 12.9. by the way, one out of every four novembers we go snowless. so it's not unheard of, just not

upper 20's and lower 30's across a good part of northern and central new hampshire. mid to upper 30's manchester and right along the immediate coastline. again temperatures are on the chilly side, it will only get colder from here, down to about 12 in the great north woods, upper teens, lower 20's upper valley through the lakes region. low to mid 20's along the coastline. there is warmer air building to our west, we'll be tracking that over the next few days. in the short term though through tomorrow temperatures run at or slightly below the average. but by later in the afternoon, into thanksgiving and beyond, the dry weather continues to temperatures. so we're heading up into the low 50's for thanksgiving afternoon, and possibly near 60 in a few spots on friday. mostly clear skies will develop late this evening, any flurries will come to an end up north. for tomorrow, not only is it dry in northeast but all the way back to chicago and points south to atlanta and into florida. so again no major issues flying

patriots, they beat the buffalo bills 20-13 last night on monday night football. pats have at least 10 wins for 13 straight seasons, second only to the 49ers who did it 16 years in a row. tom brady keeps piling up the stats, especially against buffalo, he's 25-3 against them. second most wins in a career against one team. brady had 62 touchdown passes against buffalo, second most in history against one team. dan marino threw 72 against the jets. the most important stat though the pats are 10-0 this year. >> made enough plays and got some big plays and special teams got some big plays defensively. so it was good, scored enough points. so we'll take it and move onto denver. >> they're a good football team, they deserve to win and we know right now we just got to find a way to get better, eve man get better, each coach get better. when with we do we'll see if
