s take a look at your morning ride. we are joined live right -- by 95.7 wzid' s deb davidson. deb: good thursday morning. we are going to start off with some problems on interstate 89 northbound. a tractor-trailer has jackknifed trying to avoid a deer and the fuel tank ruptured, so crews are trying to get that cleaned up. we are also seeing road closures on 93 south in the concord area. they are removing the old bridge and you will be detoured back onto the highway around the 89 merge. if you are commuting into boston right now, all major roads in massachusetts are up to speed. this report is being brought to kia of nashua. i'

>> why would he do something like this? i have absolutely no idea. >> we' ve got one guy down. one guy in the back of a car. erin: the two people accused in a mass shooting in san bernardino, california are dead this morning after a shootout with police. they have been identified as 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik, his wife. police say they are confident that they were the only shooters. sean: investigators say they were armed with assault rifles and handguns and targeted farook' s coworkers, who were holding a celebration at the time. the couple killed 14 people and wounded 17 others and appeared to be on a mission. erin: lauren lister is in san

[sirens] lauren: it ended much as it began, with a barrage of gunfire , captured on this cell phone video. four hours of terror in san bernardino after gunmen stormed an office building, killing 14 people. the final confrontation on a neighborhood street lined with houses. a dark suv riddled with bullets. >> we are reasonably confident that we had to shooters and we have two dead suspects and they were armed. i do have information on what they were armed with. both were armed with assault rifles. lauren: the brother of one of the suspects speaking out. >> i have no idea. i' m in shock myself area lauren: law enforcement track down the

attacks took place. >> that kind of sounded like a shooting range. lauren: those working their phone to their families. >> she was shot and she was scared and she just said, i just wanted to tell you i love you. >> she called us from the hospital and she is doing better , she' s ok, she' s alive. lauren: they targeted a workshop and training event inside the center. farook was an environmental specialist for the county and had worked there five years. sean: governor maggie hassan says emergency management and public safety officials are keeping a close eye on the situation and say that, if resources at large gatherings. >> i' m just thinking about how i' m thinking of the victims of

all need to come together and find common sense ways of preventing these horrible, horrible mass shootings. sean: we have much more about the shooting on her website, wmur.com, including a breakdown of what happened and when. we will also bring you new developments through the newscast. erin: the man accused of killing his parents in manchester in march of 2014 and then setting their home on fire and running from police for more than a year will be sentenced today. matthew dion reached a plea deal last month. ray brewer has more. ray: under the terms of that plea deal which was announced last month, dion expected to plead guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and a single count of arson. other charges would be dropped, including possession of child

pornography. he strangled his mother and killed his father by strangling him or striking him on the head. he set their home on fire a few days later and then went on the run. family members were consulted about the plea deal and simply wanted matthew dion to spend the rest of his life behind bars. under the deal, he would be sentenced to two consecutive terms of 30 years to life on the murder charges and 7.5-15 years on the count of arson. reporting live, ray brewer. erin: thank you. right now, salem police are looking for the man they say robbed a gas station at gunpoint last night. he entered the super petroleum on south broadway. he pulled out a gun on the female clerk and grabbed the cash from the register.

his upper lip and is about six feet tall. s office has been notified after a raymond. no one was hurt. unrelated warrant. sean: state lawmakers are speaking out the proposed natural gas pipeline in southwestern new hampshire, as kinder-morgan holds another round of community meetings on the project. debate was heated last night in ringe. senator kelly ayotte said that concerns have not been properly addressed. annie kuster said the project is not serve the best interests of granite staters/ the governor said the plan should not go forward if the concerns cannot be addressed.

kevin: for a lot of folks, we start off with wet highways due to all the rain we have seen in the last 24 hours. in the north country, we will look to a switchover to light snow. we will talk about the winds of change and what it means for the weekend coming up. sean: portsmouth police officer is earning praise for helping save a child' s birthday. erin: he was called to the ocean state job lot for an alleged shoplifter. she had stolen the items to make a birthday cake for her daughter because she could not afford them. the officer returned the items to the store and then bought them for the woman so the child could have a cake. >> we were overwhelmed. it is certainly one of the more kindhearted gestures we have seen -- i' ve personally seen -- but which we' ve seen at the store. >> i can only speak for the officers i work with in the department and i suspect i' m

rer skies into the weekend. you will notice that out to our west, quite a bit of shower activity. a lot of this will lean in across the northern part of the state. you can see the general swirl of an area of low pressure still left over. it does not mean central and southern areas may not see a stray shower moving through, but i think it will be warm enough in most locations that that will be in the form of rain showers. otherwise, it is quiet all the way to the west coast. that will leave a big area of high pressure in control as this system pulls away. in the north country, temperatures are freezing to the low 40' s. showers later on tonight. temperatures will start to slip

westerly winds feed in. for the southern areas, partial sunshine getting us back to 45 degrees. as a matter of fact, things will probably hold steady for a day or so and then start to climb over the weekend itself. mid-30' s to mid and upper 40' s. the snow most prevalent in the white mountains. beyond that partial sunshine for southern areas and brisk winds, which diminish to breezy conditions later tonight. partly to mostly sunny skies tomorrow. mostly sunny skies for both days over the weekend, which will lead us to temperatures anywhere from the 40' s on saturday to the lower half of the 50' s by sunday. 1-3 inches of accumulation up north. here is a look at your early december forecast.

erin: the shooting set off a massive manhunt. four hours later, police got into a shootout with the suspects. nikole killion has the latest. nikole: the fbi is trying to figure out whether this was terrorism or a workplace shooting. chaos in california. after a heavily armed couple opened fire at a holiday banquet at a social services center outside of los angeles. >> we are still searching the motive component. nikole: the shooters were identified as 26-year-old enoc ayuso -- the shooters were identified as 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. the pair were killed in a shootout with authorities after a search for their suv, a fake bomb thrown at officials during the chase. >> we do not know if this was a terrorist incident.

reporting live outside superior court in manchester, ray brewer. sean: thanks. police in derry are investigating a deadly crash on lane road before 10:00 yesterday morning. the car was driving at a high rate of speed when it went off the road and glanced off a tree. it then burst into flames. the driver died at the scene. the victim' s name is not being released. erin: a search is underway for two men accused of dragging a deerfield police officer with their truck. police had active warrants for derek kelley and michael hilber, when they were pulled over yesterday. the officer was dragged 15-20 feet, but was not hurt. police are now looking for a blue chevy pickup truck with the license plate number 3835943.

sean: democratic presidential returning to the granite state today. republican john kasich will also be in new hampshire. he kicks up with a townhall meeting in salem. erin: the manchester police athletic league building will soon be getting a major makeover. the center was selected by the nonprofit group building on hope to be the center of a major renovation project. plans include new heating and electric systems, new sports equipment, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. the renovation will take place with 100% donated materials and labor. sean: the new hampshire veterans home in tilton is celebrating 125 years of operation. a public ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the town hall. the home opened in 1890 for union veterans of the civil war.

sean: authorities have it in a fight the suspects as 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. they said the couple was heavily armed and dressed for battle when they opened fire yesterday on a holiday banquet at a social services center for the disabled . were wounded. authorities announced that that the department of public health. he was an inspector. he and maleic were killed -- malik were killed in a shootout with officers hours later. the suspects through pipe bombs out the windows and shots rang out once they were cornered. >> we are at san bernardino and sheadin. one guy is in the back of a car. >> just for the update, we have the suspect vehicle.

wait for the bearcat. sean: that is how it unfolded. authorities are not commenting deadly shooting. erin: the military says two army pilots were killed last night in a helicopter crash near fort campbell in tennessee. they were doing a routine training mission when the chopper went down. the helicopter was on fire when first responders found it in a river bottom. a plan to close the military prison at guanta namo bay and build a new one in the u.s. has been rejected by the white house. the obama administration considers the proposal too expensive. it calls for $350 million to build a new prison for high risk detainees in the u.s. and requires $300 million more every year in operating costs.

fentanyl with the intent to distribute in new hampshire. luis nieves was arrested while trying to deliver two kilograms of fentanyl. erin: organizers of an annual christmas tree lighting in marlborough were forced to removed the word christmas from school flyers. the event is always advertised in the schools and organizers say they never had a problem before this year. that is why john fletcher, the commander of the american legion post, was so surprised and offended when the superintendent said the word christmas needed to go. he agreed to wipe out christmas on all 250 flyers, but refused to use the word holiday, as the school district requested. >> it is not a holiday tree. it is a christmas tree. if you want a holiday tree, put one up for valentine'

erin: the superintendent released a statement. sean: let' s stay on that theme. a christmas controversy is brewing at a high school in indiana. a federal judge banned the school from performing its live nativity scene, calling it an endorsement of religion. a student filed a complaint. >> this father and son feel offended by it, then they should just not participate and not be around it. >> that has been a tradition for decades. right now, it is broken. sean: the injunction is only for the 2015 show, which means there could be appeals. the school system will decide whether to appeal in the next

erin: the boston bruins played a late game at the edmonton oilers last night. the game was scoreless going into the second period because of two great saves. later on, the bruins were down 1-0, when they lit the lamp, getting on board. in the end, the oilers won it, 3-2. sean: the red sox finally announced the signing of 32-year-old outfielder chris young, who played for the yankees last year. it is a two-year deal worth $13 million. young has hit very well at fenway park. he rounds out an impressive outfield. young was an all-star in 2010 with the arizona diamondbacks. >> now, your storm watch 9 forecast. erin: after all that rain yesterday we dealt with, we are dealing with a little bit more

kevin: it is going to be a very interesting day, region by region, across the state. the farther north you go early this morning, we are going to see any sort of rain shower activity go over to somewhat snow and that will be coming down for quite a bit of time. we could set up 1-3 inches of accumulation. you can see the ball of the moisture from the system the last couple of days continuing to show offshore. i think western areas of the state will have a better chance of seeing a couple of mixed showers depending on your elevation. it transitions to light snow and will be around this afternoon. the upper-level system tends to be around after the main system moves through. the upper-level system tends to wring out what is left of the moisture.
