>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 daybreak. erin: good morning, new hampshire. i' m erin fehlau. sean: i' m sean mcdonald. a foggy start to our thursday. for some parts of the state, they are going to see a little bit of snowfall. kevin: it depends on what region you are in for what you will catch today. fog burns off in southern areas. everyone is in on a westerly wind today. the potential of 1-3 inches of accumulation north of the white mountains into the afternoon and evening, while southern areas get the wind with increasing sunshine through the afternoon. we will have all the details on that coming up in just a bit. let' s take a look at your we'

m in shock myself. >> one guy down. one guy in the back of a car. erin: the two people accused in a mass shooting in san bernardino, california are dead after a shootout with police. they have now been identified as 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik, his wife. police are confident they were the only shooters. sean: they were armed with assault rifles and handguns and targeted farook' s coworkers from the department of public health, who were holding a celebration at the time. the couple killed 14 people and wounded 17 others and appeared to be on a mission. erin: lauren lister is in san bernardino, where investigators are still looking at possible motives. lauren: it ended much as it began, with a barrage of gunfire , captured on this cell phone

"good morning america" will have live team coverage immediately following. erin: the man accused of killing his parents in manchester in the home on fire and running from police for more than a year is set to be sentenced today. matthew dion reached a plea deal last month. s live outside with more. ray: under the terms of that plea deal, matthew dion will plead guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and a single count of arson. the plea deal calls for all other charges to be dropped. robert and connie dion were killed in march 2014. according to court documents, matthew dion strangled his mother and killed his father by on the head. he set their home on fire a few days later and went on the run.

the family simply wanted matthew dion to spend the rest of his life behind bars. under terms of that plea deal, he would be sentenced to two consecutive terms of 30 years to life on the murder charges and 7.5-15 on the arson charge. reporting live, ray brewer. erin: right now, salem police are looking for the man they say robbed a gas station at gunpoint last night. you can see the man as he enters the super petroleum on broadway. he pulled the gun on a female clerk and grabbed all the cash from the register before running off. he has a scar near his upper lip and was about six feet tall. the state attorney general' s office has been notified after a parole officer fired a gun following an investigation in raymond. a shot was fired monday night, but no one was hurt.

according to a new study, the number of baby deaths tied to crib bumpers has tripled in the last seven years. in two thirds of the cases, there was nothing else in that crib. there are no federal regulations restricting use of this common bedding, the sales are banned in chicago and maryland. sean: an appeals court has upgraded the conviction against former olympian oscar pistorius to murder. that ruling came down early this morning after prosecutors appeal to manslaughter conviction in the death of his girlfriend. he is currently under house arrest. he now faces a minimum of 15 years behind bars. erin: a growing number of people are eating organic foods and now you can learn how to grow your own. d-acres farm in dorchester is an educational homestead.

we gust over 30 miles per hour. we set ourselves up for a bright and breezy day tomorrow. the fair skies last through the weekend. we start off early this morning with some very changing conditions across the state. low clouds and fog should give way to partial sunshine in southern parts of the state. you notice the showers in western parts of vermont that will edge in across western parts of new hampshire through the afternoon. up north, any sort of rain showers you have switching over to light snow, which will be around before tapering off to snow showers later on this evening. it all depends what region of the state you are in as the upper-level system finally pulls away. the timing is such that we have really nice weather expected in time for the weekend.

a lot of the accumulation will be elevation-dependent. temperatures going anywhere from the mid-30' s to lower 40' s early. anywhere from the mid and upper 30' s in the north country to mid and upper 40' s in southeastern areas in the afternoon. i think 40' s is going to be a trend for us in the next several days. up north, you are likely in the 30' s today and tomorrow to get back into the 40' s in time for the weekend. we will go from clouds and fog to partial sunshine. maybe a passing shower for along the foothills, there could be a scattered passing of snow. up in the north country, there will be light snow tapering off to snow showers this evening. the gusty wind will be breezy tonight. temperatures tomorrow, mid-30'

a warming trend sets up for the weekend itself with a good deal of sunshine. we will be in the lower and mid 50' s on sunday. we will have partial sunshine and that wind later on tonight. we have a couple of mixed showers in the foothills or western areas of the state through late this afternoon. the extended forecast has a lot of sunshine for the weekend. there should not be any weather issues. the next system on the maps all the way out to late tuesday, early wednesday. most of that would be in the form of rain showers. sean: it is pretty mild for december. let' s check out our top stories. police in california have killed a man and woman they say opened fire yesterday killing 14 people and wounding 17 others.

[laughter] sean: very foggy in some parts of the state. erin: it could slow the morning commute. we continue to follow that developing story out of san bernardino, california. a couple suspected of opening fire at a center for the disabled, killing 14 people. the couple died last night in a shootout with police. we will tell you more about them. the man accused of killing home last year is expected to plead guilty to second-degree murder charges today. derry police are trying to determine what caused a crash that left one person dead. sean: very foggy in some parts of the state.

>> it was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. i heard all the shots. erin: the shooting set off a massive manhunt for the killers and four hours later, police got into a shootout with a man and woman suspected of carrying out those attacks. both suspects were killed. nikole killion has the latest. nikole: the fbi is trying to figure out whether this was terrorism or a workplace shooting. chaos in california. a heavily armed couple opened fire at a holiday banquet at a social services center out that of los angeles. >> we are still searching that motive component. nikole: police identified the suspected shooter is as 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. farook' s brother-in-law was in shock. >> i have no idea why would he do that.

mother and father in march 2014. after the crime, he went on the run, and it was not until june of this year that he was captured in florida. ray brewer joins us live from manchester. ray: matthew dion is expected to plead guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and a single count of arson. under the plea deal last month, all other charges would be dropped. prosecutors say in march of last year, he killed his father robert and his mother connie at their home in manchester. firefighters found the bodies after authorities say dion set the house on fire days after the murders. he killed his mother by strangling her and murdered his father by either strangling him or striking him in the head. after the killings, he went on the run for 15 months and was captured at a hotel in florida

he will be sentenced after entering his guilty pleas today. he faces 30 years to life on each of the murder charges and 7.5-15 on the arson charge. ray brewer, wmur news 9. sean: police in derry are investigating a deadly crash on yesterday morning. a car was driving at a high rate road and glanced off a tree. the car landed on a rock wall and burst into flames. the driver died at the scene. the victim' s name is not being released. erin: a search is underway for two men accused of dragging a deerfield police officer with their truck. police had an active warrant out on derek kelley and michael hilber when they were pulled over yesterday. when the officer tried to arrest

15-20 feet. chevy pickup with license plate number 3835943. sean: a massachusetts man has been sentenced t five years -- to five years behind bars for transporting a minor for prostitution. multiple people, including 26-year-old enoc ayuso, were involved in transporting the female from boston to salem. erin: a former nursing assistant has been indicted on charges that he assaulted an elderly patient. timothy morrissey worked at beller nursing home in goffstown. another worker saw him assaulting a 79-year-old resident with dementia. he is due in court later this month. people in portsmouth may hair -- here unusual sounds today.

sean: authorities have identified the suspects as 28-year-old syed farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. they say the couple was heavily armed and dressed for battle when they opened fire yesterday at a holiday banquet at a social services center for the disabled. 14 people were killed and 17 others were wounded. authorities announced that farook worked with the victims at the department of public health as an inspector. he and malik were killed in a shootout with police hours after the attack. the suspects reportedly through pipe bombs out of the window of their car and shots rang out once they were cornered. >> we are in san bernardino. we can see one guy down. there is one guy in the back of a car. >> just for the update. -- thanks for the update. stand by.

sean: that is what it was like when it unfolded. authorities are not commenting on a possible motive for the deadly shooting. erin: the military says two army pilots were killed in a helicopter crash near fort campbell in tennessee last night. they were doing a routine training mission. the helicopter was on fire when first responders found it in a river. the cause is under investigation. sean: a man in massachusetts has pleaded guilty to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. luis nieves was arrested trying to deliver two kilograms of fentanyl to manchester. erin: organizers of an annual christmas tree lighting in marlborough were forced remove flyers. the event is always advertised say they never had a problem

that is why john fletcher was so surprised and defended when the superintendent of schools said the word christmas needed to go. he agreedt to remove the word christmas on all the flyers, but refused to use the word holiday. john: because it is not a holiday tree. it is a christmas tree. you want a holiday tree? put one up for valentine' s day or columbus day. this is a christmas tree. erin: the superintendent released a statement. sean: a christmas controversy is also brewing at a high school in indiana. a federal judge banned the school from performing its live nativity scene, calling it an endorsement of religion.

across a good part of the state on sunday. the charmed life will continue into monday and tuesday with a big area of high pressure in control. that gives way to the next system, which may be a coastal system. we start off in the 30' s to near 40 and eventually climb back into the 40' s up north. 1-3 inches of potential up north before tapering off into showers later on. extended forecast shows temperatures warming up over the weekend. the most likely possibility will be rain showers from that system. i got a chance to visit the head start at the manchester community college. we talked about rainbows, clouds, lightning. we got to hear the story of a
