not a muslim act. reporter: the fbi is now combing through a large trove of evidence. to find out if there are accomplices. brandi hitt, abc news. shelley: we are hearing about this from a man who was shot. -- the family of a woman who was shot. amanda gaspard was shot 3 times in her arm, thigh, and knee and has more than 20 shrapnel wounds elsewhere. in a statement, her parents say she fell to the ground when the shooters came in. she hid under a table, and the shooters stood over her and could have easily shot her in the head. amanda' s parents say she' s in a lot of pain but recovering slowly. tom: the attack in san bernardino has led to an uptick in requests for the expertise of a new hampshire company, which trains people on how to respond to an active shooter situation. wmur' s mike cronin joins us live with how you can protect yourself if faced with a similar situation. mike: everything these men teach

re faced with a dangerous situation and trying to figure out what to do in that moment, you' re more likely to make mistakes. >> this is the safest wall to be on during an incident of workplace violence or active shooter incident. reporter: joseph hileman and his partner are trained for situations like the shooting in san bernardino. >> we bring into our training practical stuff that works anywhere. reporter: the two are on the jaffrey police force and lead a swat team. three years ago they started blue-u defense a company that teaches people how to react and defend themselves during situations of mass violence. in any public place preparation is key. >> success of your decisions comes from making good decisions in fractions of a second. >> so the first thing that we teach is escape. if you can escape and do so safely, you' re going to be better off in every situation is to get out.

active shooter situation. it will offer that class next month, january 12, at 6:00 p.m, it' s free and open to the public. if you' re interested, you can call laconia police at 524-5257. shelley: mourners paid their respects today to the campus police officer who was killed in last week' s shooting at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado. garrett swasey rushed to the clinic to help after a man opened fire. he grew up in melrose, massachusetts and moved to colorado to train as a champion ice dancer. he was married with two children. two other people were killed, and 9 were injured, including five police officers. tom: new hampshire is now on track to have more than 4 00 drug overdose deaths by the end of the year. the chief medical examiner says as of today 319 people in our state have died because of drugs in 2015. 269 of them, or 84%, had some form of opioid or opiate in their system. the me'

likely exceed 400 deaths by december 31' st. police say more charges are possible against a mother accused of crashing her pickup truck in northwood with her two young sons in the back seat. investigators say she had overdosed on drugs. our stephanie woods is live in northwood with the neighbor who rushed in to help. stephanie: police say emmy-lee mcneil overdosed behind the wheel in northwood and crashed her truck in a swamp. a neighbor says that' s when her two sons and husband crawled out of the truck and sought his help. >> you know, you try to spin this into a positive from a family perspective, but at the same time, it' s scary. stephanie: steve mccusker was with his son, backing out of his driveway thursday night when he saw a man run at his car. >> it was surprising. it wasn' t anything that i was ready for right at that moment. but you know, it just felt like

stephanie: mccusker says the man told him that his wife veered off harmony road and crashed their pickup truck into a swampy area. that' s when he says he discovered the man' s 8-year-old son crying by his side. he took the boy inside his house. >> gave him something to eat and drink and got him warm and comfortable. when i got down to the accident scene i found another boy who was the 10-year-old son, waving me down at the side of the road. it' s a pretty dark, narrow, road. it' s not where you want your child to be at that time of night in the dark. reporter: mccusker says he found a woman slumped over the wheel unconscious. >> my attention was to the young boy, to make sure he was ok. so i got him into my truck where it was warm, calmed him down, the entire time i was on the phone with 911. reporter: northwood police and fire rushed to the scene and gave 28-year-old emmy-lee mcneil narcan to revive her. >> it was shortly after they left their residence that the crash occurred, so it' s a short timeline between when we think they took the drugs and when they got in the car, loaded up

drive. stephanie: the former durham deputy fire chief says he' s responded to drug overdoses but never one in his own backyard. >> last night it affected my family. this epidemic all of a sudden, literally came into our living room. stephanie: fortunately no one was injured in the crash and the children are staying with relatives. mcneil was released on p.r. bail . she will be arraigned wednesday. her husband was released from protective custody and could be facing charges. live in northwood, stephanie woods. shelley: tonight family and friends are mourning the manchester woman who was killed by a suspected drunk driver last weekend. a candlelight vigil was held to remember 47-year-old isabel pena-batista at the corner of lake avenue and union street. that' s where the fatal crash happened on sunday. she was laid to rest earlier today.

unfortunately this consequence has hurt us more probably than the individual. and i just want to make sure everybody remembers her as we all do with a big smile on her face and full of life. shelley: police say the driver of the other car alexander burke ran a red light before crashing into an suv and killing the victim. tom: police have arrested a man yesterday. officers say hezekiah mendoza leblanc' s apartment on belmont street. his injuries aren' t life-threatening. police arrested mendoza in providence, rhode island tonight and say they seized seven guns , five of which were stolen from various towns in new hampshire. tonight, state police are looking for the man who robbed the t.d. bank in loudon. troopers say he walked into the bank on route 129 about 5:15 this afternoon, showed a firearm and demanded money. this is a surveillance photo of the suspect. it' s a white man in his mid to late 20' s

tom: an outbreak of e-coli linked to chipotle has expanded to nine states. shelley: the majority of illnesses have been in oregon and washington. the latest cases were reported in illinois, maryland, and pennsylvania. california, minnesota, new york, and ohio have also been affected. the cdc says of the 52 people infected, 47 of them reported eating at a chipotle restaurant the week before the illness started. officials haven' t determined yet what ingredient made the people sick. ebay is adding paid leave for new fathers and offering new mothers more time. weeks of leave at full pay. 12 weeks of parental leave at full pay.

shelley: manchester' s palace theater is marking its 100-th season with a holiday classic. tom: a christmas carol opened this morning. the palace opened its doors in fi 1915. i remember it well. the 886-seat theater has seen its share of ups and downs, but is still going strong. supporters say live theater remains an important art form. >> young people especially are being deluged with rock concerts and stuff on the internet.
