shelley: we are hearing about this from a man who was shot. -- the family of a woman who was shot. amanda gaspard was shot 3 times in her arm, thigh, and knee and has more than 20 shrapnel wounds elsewhere. in a statement, her parents say she fell to the ground when the shooters came in. she hid under a table, and the shooters stood over her and could have easily shot her in the head. amanda' s parents say she' s in a lot of pain but recovering slowly. tom: the attack in san bernardino has led to an uptick in requests for the expertise of a new hampshire company, which trains people on how to respond to an active shooter situation. wmur' s mike cronin joins us live with how you can protect yourself if faced with a similar situation. mike: everything these men teach they say needs to be thought out ahead of time because if you' re faced with a dangerous situation and trying to figure out what to do in that moment, you' re more likely to make mistakes. >> this is the safest wall to be

workplace violence or active shooter incident. reporter: joseph hileman and his partner are trained for situations like the shooting in san bernardino. >> we bring into our training practical stuff that works anywhere. reporter: the two are on the jaffrey police force and lead a swat team. three years ago they started blue-u defense a company that teaches people how to react and defend themselves during situations of mass violence. in any public place preparation is key. >> success of your decisions comes from making good decisions in fractions of a second. >> so the first thing that we teach is escape. if you can escape and do so safely, you' re going to be better off in every situation is to get out. reporter: if that' s not an option hileman says to lock and barricade yourself in a room. if the shooter gets through. >> we prepare for the battle. and that means getting any weapon of opportunity or any weapon of plan that you have within your office setting.

overdosed on drugs. our stephanie woods is live in northwood with the neighbor who rushed in to help. stephanie: police say emmy-lee mcneil overdosed behind the wheel in northwood and crashed her truck in a swamp. a neighbor says that' s when her two sons and husband crawled out of the truck and sought his help. >> you know, you try to spin this into a positive from a same time, it' s scary. stephanie: steve mccusker was with his son, backing out of his driveway thursday night when he saw a man run at his car. >> it was surprising. it wasn' t anything that i was ready for right at that moment. but you know, it just felt like i had to take care of business. stephanie: mccusker says the man told him that his wife veered off harmony road and crashed their pickup truck into a swampy that' discovered the man' s 8-year-old son crying by his side. he took the boy inside his house.
