creators say it is so important. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: hi there. thanks forker starting your week off with us. i'm erin fehlau. sean: i'm sean mcdonald. yesterday we started off chilly. you didn't need the jacket by afternoon. it's been mild. kevin: it has. we're going to drop the temperatures by a solid ten degrees tomorrow compared to today. still some fog. temperatures below freezing and the patchy fog, the extra moisture creating a couple of slick spots. high clouds giving way to sunshine. 40's to lower 50's for most out there today. a light breeze out of the west and northwest. we'll talk about the cooling trend and any precipitation chances coming you. let's look at your morning ride. we're joined live by deb

good morning, deb. deb: good morning. right now if you are starting your early morning commute, we're not seeing any delays at all right now. from concord up to hanover and lebanon. coming on the southbound side, we're not seeing any delays either at the discipline bow. 93 is moving well from bow down to the stateline with massachusetts. if you are commuting in to massachusetts at this time, we are seeing some pretty heavy delays on 93 south from exit 46 in methuen down to exit 34. this report is brought to you by peter's honda, nissan, and kia of nashua. from the traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. sean: thanks. the fbi continues its investigation in to the san bernardino shooting, president obama addressed the american public from the oval office in primetime. only the third time he's done so during his presidency.

conveying in on the speech. here's lana zak in washington. president obama: the threat from terrorism is real. we will overcome it. we will destroy isil and any other organization that tries to harm us. our success won't depend on tough talk or abandoning our values or giving in to fear. reporter: in a rare primetime oval address speech, he spoke to the american public. president obama: i have no greater responsibility than the security of the american people. reporter: he outlineed the approach to fight isil. >> it is time to demonstrate the american people are united and committed to the fight. reporter: he urged legislation to prevent people on the watch list from buying a gun and

allows tashfeen malik to enter. marco rubio said this was more of the same. >> nothing that happened in the speech tonight is going to assuage people's fears. reporter: donald trump tweeted is that all there is? we need a new president fast. >> even in the political season let's not forget that freedom is more powerful than fear. reporter: the president also addressed muslims directly. he asked for their heaven in fighting back against radicalization and urged all americans to reject discrimination. lana zak, abc news, washington. erin: a hudson teen remains in a boston hospital after he was hit by a car. sean: highland street was closed. they worked to figure out what happened. ray brewer is live in hudson this morning. neighbors say speeding is a problem in the area; right? ray: that's right, sean. neighbors tells us there have been several accidents in the area.

that the teen was struck by 2007 hyundai tucson as he was crossing highland street. the teens injuries were serious enough that they had to be air lifted to a boston hospital. the teen taken to a nearby school parking lot so the helicopter could land there. police don't know if speed was a factor if the accident. in general, they've seen several accidents around the area. cars usually speed on the streets. >> the cars fly down the road every day all day long. i have small kids too. i walk them back and forth from the bus stop. >> 20 years ago when we moved here, it was a back road. now people use it as a highway. they cut across from hudson to nashua. it is crazy. ray: it is unclear what caused the accident. also solar glare might have been a factor. alcohol does not appear

the driver is cooperating with police. sean: we know the names of the two people killed saturday in a head on crash in route 101. they say 31-year-old marcus harmon was driving east around 4:30 when he crossed the center line. he smashed in to a car driven by 67-year-old wendy davis of temple. the crash closed route 101 for several hours. sean: hooksett police are still working to figure out who fired a gun. it happened sunday afternoon at hooksett road. police tell us at least five rounds were shot toward the pickup. it is not clear how many people were in the truck. no one was hurt. a white van sped north away from the scene after the shooting. the murder trial of the danvers, massachusetts teen charged with killing his teacher will continue this morning. defense lawyers for phillip chism are presenting their side of the case. they are trying to convince the jury that

killed colleen ritz verse in a school bathroom in october of 2013. the attorneys say that part of the testimony barred from the courtroom includes the teen told a psychiatrist he hears voices telling him he's a ninja. a home in manchester could be a place to help prison. founders in new hampshire. they've worked in the prison system for years. now they are trying to raise $150,000 to get this home open in 2016. >> we've seen people come back in not just once or twice, but three times. julie and i began to talk about what could be done to help some of these people from coming back in. >> they'll have a group living room, gathering room, group dining room where they will share with the community in eating meals together such as a family would do. erin: similar homes have been used in more than 20 other states.

searching for the person who hit and killed a service dog. berwick police say sophia, a 7-year-old german shepard was hit on sunday. his owner was getting his mail. anyone with information is asked to contact berwick police. erin: last night marked the first night of hanukkah. after passing around a candle, it was handed to the rabbi who used a hydraulic lift to light the 13-foot-tall menorah. hanukkah lasts for seven days and eight nights. sean: the ymca of manchester opened its door for a brunch with santa claus. more than 1,000 people

kevin: monday morning, december 7th. we start out with patchy fog. otherwise high clouds giving way to sunshine and what should be another wild afternoon with temperatures tipping out along the coast up in to the lower 50's. we'll look ahead to the cooler temperatures and when they truly arrive coming up. erin: thank you. investigators are looking in to whether tashfeen malik radicalized her american-born husband and was the driving force in the san bernardino massacre plot. they discovered malik had pledged allegiance to isis in a facebook post. they are looking in to whether she was radicalized and whether she used her marriage to penetrate the u.s. and commit jihad. 14 people were killed in the attack. the u.s. justice department is expected to announce a civil rights investigation of the chicago police

calls for the probe intensified after police released a video showing 17-year-old laquan mcdonald shot 16 times last year. the resignation of the chicago police superintendent. the justice department has opened more than 20 investigations in to police departments across the country. sean: former president, jimmy carter, says he's cancer free. he announced his latest tests no longer show any signs of cancer. this comes four months after he was announced he was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to his brain. today marks 74 years since the attack on pearl harbor. in 1941 the japanese surprise attack claimed 2,400 american lives. three young men from manchester, killed on the day that lives in infamy.

and a couple of weak systems with a couple of passes showers here or there. no big storms in the forecast at least until early next week where it looks like the next system may be mostly rain by the time we get there. another warm up ahead of it. high clouds out there this morning. should be moving to the east. that should lead us to a good deal of sunshine in to the afternoon. eventually a west and northwesterly breeze around five to ten miles. it is at the system to the south that will be passing later tonight that will turn the winds more northernly. that eventually brings high temperatures tomorrow about ten degrees cooler than what we'll have out there today. notice the readings currently down in to the upper teens up north. we're in the upper 20's to lower 30's in southern areas. 36 in portsmouth. the mild spots. the fog creating some slick spots in places where temperatures are below freezing many morning. we'll continue to watch the cooler air dive in out of canada. only for another warm up

we get later in to the we get later in to the week, especially by weekend. high temperatures from the lower range of the 40's in the north country to as high as 50 eastern areas. high clouds early giving way to sunshine. patchy fog giving way to partial sun sine. fair skies tonight will allow temperatures to dip back. not as much of a recovery tomorrow. that means highs tomorrow likely only in 40's. that's the weak system. again the northeast wind ahead of that and a northerly flow behind it partial sunshine. corner thursday with the chance of a mixed shower. then a warming trend in to next weekend. high temperatures from the 40's to lower 50's. then tonight we drop back in to the 20's to lower 30's. one weak system that we'll watch move by thursday. we start warming up again after the chance

erin: 150 people dressed up like santa and skied. the broadway trail at the same time raising more than $3,000 for the sunday river community fund. this was the 16th annual santa sunday at the maine ski resort. sean: santa has been busy. he was cutting lose. they have found a spanish ship that sank 300 years ago with up to $17 billion with gold, silver, and gems. erin: is that it? a team of experts discovered this wreck of the san jose. it is believed it sunk in the caribbean in 1708 loaded with the gold, silver, and tons of emeralds. that's going to be a lot of fun to search for those. sean: they are going to have to protect that thing now. coming up, a teen is hospitalized after being hit by a car.

victim's condition? ray: unfortunately not at this time. the teen did suffer possible life threatening injuries and had to be med flighted to both as they look at what led up to the accident. hudson police say the car struck the teen while he was crossing highland street shortly after 3:00 sunday afternoon. the boy suffered serious injuries and-taken to a nearby school parking lot where he was air lifted to a boston hospital. >> with the pedestrian strike the injuries are always generally going to be serious in nature. his injuries appear to be the possibility life threatening. that's why i believe they med flighted him out to massachusetts general. ray: scott hicks was driving the vehicle. his wife and son were in the vehicle. >> the operator was a 49-year-old male. it doesn't appear that alcohol was a factor.

in a statement, maggie hassan said quote i join americans in expressing our profound gratitude for each of these brave men and women. our greatest generation who sacrificed to make sure freedom endured. sean: a man from han cook is scheduled to face a judge after he allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer in peterborough. the officer went to conval high school for the report of a distraught man with the car stuck on the athletic field. 22-year-old thomas heissenberger pointed a semiautomatic pistol at him at one point firing a ground in to the round. after being tased, he was arrested. he is expected to be arraigned today on multiple charges. erin: fish and game officers are investigating an atv crash that left two people injured. a 19-year-old man and child were riding on private property when they collided head on about 4:30 yesterday afternoon.

wearing a helmet. the victims were taken to local hospitals. there's no word on their conditions. icy conditions are being blamed for causing a serious crash yesterday. 71-year-old marcus hanson was driving when his car spun out, went off of the road, and hit a tree. hansen was flown to a massachusetts hospital with serious injuries. sean: a dover man is due in court today. the chase started when an officer tried to pull over jonathan dennison. he crashed at a guardrail before crashing again in someone's yard. officers say dennison tried to flee on foot. he was captured in nearby woods. a manchester man is accused of leading police on a chase. early yesterday morning an officer started todd bernatchez driving the wrong way on chestnut street. when the officer tried

ditched the car and ran off. two passengers in the car were not charged. erin: a manchester man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting and kidnapping charges. jayson setoute admitted to planning and participating to the beating of a goffstown man in march. he was hit multiple times with a bat before being put in the trunk of a car. another person, isaiah williams, is scheduled to go on trial in january. sean: we want to say thank you to those who participated in the spirit of giving toy drive. >> a cartful. bikes. it surprised me and amazed me the amount of giving there was this year. sean: all of the donated items will go to toys for tots. here are the final numbers. you donated $17,000 in

people on the no-fly list. some of the candidates like donald trump and jeb bush blasted the presidents comments on social media. the president does not have any publicly scheduled events today, however the white house now looking ahead to a summit next week on terror financing. sean: thank you. erin: a man accused of stabbing two people is due in court today. authorities are investigating the attack. they are looking in to reports that the suspected called this is for syria during the stabbings which happened police say one person was seriously wounded. the suspect is charged with attempted murder. this morning beijing issued its first red alert for smog urging schools to close and putting restrictions on factories and traffic. the move will keep half of the city's vehicles off of the roads. the red alert means that authorities have forecasted more than

of severe smog. sean: schools are on high alert after a series of threats were made. they started receiving threats early tuesday morning leading to an increase in security. the threats were sent in three e-mails. they believe a good samaritan who reported the first threat is responsible for all three. since the first message complained of too much homework, they suspect a student is to blame. erin: police in california say they've arrested the mother of a newborn baby found buried alive. they rescued the baby after two women heard her crying. okay. police say the person who buried her faces charges, including attempted murder. sean: an attorney says a man who was shot and killed during a standoff in wisconsin on saturday was a hostage who died while fleeing the gunman. at this point, it is not clear who killed the

police say officers fired at a man who did not drop a weapon after leaving the building. they say the victim may have been shot at from inside the building. erin: a man in australia went to straight heights to try to evade police. he climbed a crane on a construction site and dangled in the air for seven hours. the man finally came down when the specialized police were sent up to get him. his motive remains unclear. sean: turns now to sports, the eagles stunned the patriots last night. new england entered the game with a chance to clench the division or a playoff spot with a win. the eagles used defense and special teamed to prevent them from doing so. watch this. the patriots leading 14-7 in the final seconds of the first half, they blocked a punt and returned it for an eagles touchdown.

california is allowing people to come in and take a nap. customers can catch some sleep for as little as 30 minutes or as long as two hours. the business will give you a blanket. the naps have become so popular they are often a line of people waiting to take their turn to snooze. it does not cost anything to take a nap at the massage parlor. people are encouraged to leave a tip. erin: that looks weird. sean: i guess you are all together there. if you don't mind having company and taking a nap. erin: oh my goodness. i hope no one snores. kevin: is that real? erin: of course it is. we have a video to prove it. kevin: it is on the news. it must be true; right? erin: is it going to catch on? sean: will it be a trend? kevin: i don't know. that's asking a lot. early with the thick fog in western and some northern areas of the state. much like yesterday temperatures below the freezing mark.

the afternoon. the high clouds in southern areas clear away to a mostly sunny this is the next disturbance and the one that produces the change in temperatures. we're not going to see any precipitation. as it moves to the southeast and passes well off shore, we'll start to get more of a northernly flow. that's going to provide cooler temperatures. highs tomorrow likely over ten degrees cooler than what we'll have out there today. which is above the average for this time of year. mid 30's at the coast. a lot of 20's in inland sections. temperatures early morning with the light wind elevation dependent. a little bit milder than the cooler valleys where the colder air sinks in.

you have the patchy, dense fog. a couple of slick spots on area roadways. cool spot we're seeing. still 20. it is a cooler start and milder finish. light wind if anything out of the west and northwest as the front just to the north and west starts to slide. if anything, a few extra clouds for the north country out of that later on after any fog burns off to partial sunshine. for the rest of us, it is a good deal of sunshine today after the high clouds push away. then tonight temperatures after highs today until the 40's to lower 50's get back in to the 20's to lower 30's. anywhere between 36 and 44 it will come with a light westerly and northest we arely breeze. from there, we'll continue to see the parable sunshine. another weak system on thursdays. this one is likely a bit closer after an increase in clouds.

stray showers around thursday. maybe cool enough. if it arrives early in the day, it could be in the form of a couple of mixed showers. quiet in to the week. another warming trend setting up friday in to next weekend. 20's to lower 30's this morning. you'll notice the big drop in temperature tomorrow only to see a slow, gradually recovery through the remainder of the week. best chance of a shower or two looks to be on thursday where temperatures by afternoon will be up in to the 40's. 40's to near 50 friday. a lot of 50's on the maps and expected in to next weekend ahead of the next system that would arrive early next week. as you can see, there's a lot of cold air to tap in to. erin: almost 60 degrees. kevin: we've continued on. we've continued in to first week of december. : a bit of a different trend.
