the residents said they are presenting the petition is a wake-up call, hoping to push the board to have greater oversight of police department activities. board members say this is a good time to look at how the force is run, but they oppose getting rid of it. they say some people may not understand the full ramifications. >> i think some of the signatures may be on here is people are under the misimpression that there is coverage available to us full-time. >> it is apparent to me that there is no supervision in the department. they are not following the sop. ray: the chair of the select board says it is likely there will be new leadership in the police department very soon. the board says they will study options presented at the hearing last night. reporting live, ray brewer.

a hen a fiery crash on route 202 in his hometown. 52-year-old todd goss was speeding when he suddenly merged into traffic and hit another car. both vehicles went off the road, but his truck rolled several times, and then caught fire. witnesses raced to help. >> i just saw a bunch of dirt in the road. when i came up closer, i saw smoke. sean: goss was pronounced dead at the scene. the driver of the other car was flown to dartmouth hitchcock with serious injuries. erin: people from both sides of the aisle are criticizing donald trump after the republican presidential hopeful says he wants to ban all muslims from entering the united states even to visit. he said it is a response to the level of hatred toward americans.

lana: a stunning proposal from republican presidential front runner donald trump -- a ban of all muslims coming into america. donald trump: donald j trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of muslims entering the united states. lana: his proposal has brought together republicans and democrats in universal condemnation. jeb bush called him unhinged. chris christie called it ridiculous. in a rare move, the republican shares of three major campaign states -- iowa, new hampshire, and south carolina -- all slammed the proposal. hillary clinton called it reprehensible and divisive. even dick cheney agreed. trump' s campaign said the ban would apply to every muslim

but st. petersburg' s mayor turned the tables. there are still plenty of people who support trump. announcing the proposal at a rally, he received a standing ovation and plenty of applause. one muslim american leader says he sounds more like the leader of a lynch mob. abc news, washington. sean: a dover man has been charged in connection with a hit and run in maine that killed a service dog. 23-year-old jesse gosselin hit and killed a seven-year-old dog while her owner was getting his mail. he started to slow down, but panicked because of an existing arrest warrant. he faces several charges, including leaving the scene of an accident. erin: testimony will continue today at the trial of a dump

crash last year. kyle witty is accused of running a red light and slamming into a minivan, killing 60-year-old elizabeth mclynn. defense attorneys say the lights were hidden by trees and that speed, drugs, and alcohol were not factors. >> this is not homicide or criminal negligence. it would be wrong to take this tragedy and make it into another tragedy by convicting an innocent man. several witnesses who testified they heard the screeching of tires and the impact on that day of the crash. sean: a member of el chapo' mexican drug cartels has been sentenced to 17 years in prison. rafael celaya valenzuela was convicted of drug charges cocaine. he and several others were indicted involving a scheme to smuggle cocaine into the u.s.

partly sunny skies this afternoon. it looks like a warming trend sets up yet again for another weekend. we start off with that area of low pressure passing to our south. the thickest of the cloud cover that we have streamlining its weight in this morning will be fading away -- it' s way in this morning will be fading away this afternoon. back to our west, we have partial sunshine and the next system which moves through on thursday and early friday promises the risk of a shower or two coming with that. 20' s to lower 30' s early this morning. at the shoreline, we will be up around 10-15 miles per hour into the afternoon. no bitter cold. that is locked up into canada.

a boston hospital after being hit crossing highland street. erin: a state panel says the application to build the controversial northern pass project is complete. the site evaluation committee rejected arguments from opponents. the committee voted 6-0 to accept eversource energy' s application. supporters say the project will create jobs and lower electricity cost. opponents are concerned that it will hurt property values and the environment. sean: a man accused of using harry went control women and guilty. 28-year old frantzer fleurimond was arrested in portsmouth last year. he pleaded guilty to three charges in the case involving four victims. he targeted women addicted to drugs, put them up and motel

the farther north you go, we are expecting at least partial sunshine. that will continue through the day tomorrow. the area of clouds moving in from the south all in response to an area of low pressure that is bumping into a lot of dry air. we are not expecting any showers to make it farther north than that. that does turn the wind more northerly. that brings in the cooler air from canada. while temperatures do not reflect the cooler air mass, we will see temperatures be very stubborn in their move upwards into the afternoon with highs only between 36 and 40 work. some patchy fog in some of those lower valleys with temperatures elope raising. from there, temperatures above the freezing mark today, even in the north country. a little bit more
