an investigation dating back more than two years has led police to one man. good evening and thank you for joining us, i'm jean mackin. josh: i'm josh mcelveen. investigators believe that ronald szettella is responsible for two armed robberies and a bomb threat. jean: as heather hamel explains, salem police are looking at szettella as well for a crime that involved a barack obama mask. reporter: yes, salem police assisted pelham when they searched the suspect's home and found evidence that connects him to crimes in both towns. while charges still haven't been brought in salem, pelham arrested szettella on three felonies, crimes that date back to 2013, the first was a bomb threat called in to an elementary school where he said he was going through a divorce and was hoping by making the call his kids would be released. more recently he's suspected of pulling off armed robberies at the gage hill farm convenience store in pelham this september as well as last september, and

videos and then got a search warrant for szettella's house. >> almost all of the evidence that they needed as far as clothing that he wore when he made the bipartisan threat to include even his shoes, his helmet was recovered. we recovered a black bee-bee gun that if you look at it, it almost looks like it's a real pistol. reporter: additional charges are expected from salem including that robbery when the suspect wore a barack obama mask. right now szettella is being held on $250,000 cash only bail. heather hamel, wmur news 9. josh: a woman from windham is accused of driving the wrong way on the everett turnpike. police say chelsea cormier was intoxicated when she drove north for nearly 16 miles in the southbound lane. wmur's kristen carosa live from the bedford tolls, one of the locations that the woman alley

reporter: authorities say these types of driving offenses are extremely dangerous, especially someone driving under the influence. it happened around 1:00 a.m. this morning, the 24-year-old chelsea cormier was driving the wrong way on the everett turnpike near exit 13. once cormier drove through the bedford tolls she headed northbound towards the hooksett toll plaza. state police responded and got into position ahead of her as she continued to drive northbound. officers laid down spike strips which slowed her car down. cormier pulled over but then attempted to pull back onto the highway, with two flat tires. she was finally stopped by police and arrested. >> many persons who are under the influence of alcohol lose track of which direction they're driving in, specifically on the roadways at that time of night because there aren't other cars as a point of reference for them to notice that they're driving the wrong way. reporter: cormier was arrested without incident.

while intoxicated. kristen carosa, wmur news 9. jean: thanks. there are many questions tonight about how a red line train south of boston was able to travel through several stations without anyone at the controls. the operator stepped off the train in braintree, just after 6:00 a.m., after discovering a problem with the signal. officials say he did have permission to step away, but then the train started moving, rolling through four stations before the power was cut between north quincy and jfk station. another operator got on there and brought the train into the jfk station. right now officials say operator error is the main focus of their investigation. but describe themselves as embarrassed that this situation ever happened at all. pam cross from our sister station wcvb talked to passengers who were on that train. >> i have a person that was operating on my train, a low grade laceration, i need emt's.

almost as fast as the runaway train, now sitting in the train yard. the operator identified as david vazquez, a long-time "t" employee, was brushed by the train he was in charge of before it took off. he knew something was wrong. >> it went flying. and i said, did they stop at any stops? no, this thing is moving. reporter: the train went from braintree to north quincy, cruising through at least three stops. >> it was unmanned traveling from braintree, within a couple minutes when it left the power on the third rail was shut off at that point in time, but the train coasted because it had momentum at that point forward through several stations before it came to a stop. reporter: he was in the second car, a few people panicked, some went forward to see for themselves. >> nothing, they said that

how come, impossible. site was bizarre. jean: the train has been impounded, it's being kept at cabin yards. officials say it won't go back on the tracks before this investigation is over. josh: just days after the latest wmur cnn poll revealed a commanding lead in new hampshire, republican donald trump is back in the granite state. he's meeting with new england's police benevolent association in portsmouth tonight, and protesters are already gathering on the seacoast. we'll have a live report on all of it from portsmouth at 6:00. meanwhile tonight one republican candidate in new hampshire with some harsh words about donald trump and the prospect of supporting him as a fellow republican. senator lindsey graham spoke in portsmouth today call trump's plan to ban muslims from entering the u.s. the worst possible idea an american political leader could ever come up with. jennifer crompton has more.

missing kayaker on turkey pond yesterday, and this morning recovered the body of 68-year-old john stapler. his kayak was located last night and when marine patrol and new hampshire fish and game resumed their search today, a dive team located the body. >> the family does know, obviously, they're distraught, as anybody would be. our heart goes out to them. we can't imagine what they're going through right now. jean: searchers recovered the body in water that was 10 to 12 feet deep. officials in portsmouth confirm that a fire yesterday in a popular downtown restaurant started in a grill on the first floor. the grill could be seen through the front door of the gas light, as cleanup crews worked on the building thursday the deputy fire chief says flames from the grill ignited grease in the vent. the resulting fire rising up through the chimney onto the roof. the building suffered significant water damage.

foundation to fight childhood obesity, he pleaded guilty to child exploitation and child pornography charges admitting that he used hidden cameras to produce pornography involving a dozen children. josh: president obama signed legislation today designed to replace the no child left behind initiative. the new policy dubbed every student succeeds keeps some standardized testing but gives state and local officials more flexibility to set their own standards and also blocks the federal government from forcing the common core model on schools and drops a federal mandate to tie teacher evaluations to student performance on tests. jean: right now parts of the kes coast r getting hit hard by rain and that's leading to major flooding, mudslides and power outages. a state of emergency is in effect in want state and coastal flood warnings are also in effect. as abc's brandi hitt tells us, more wet weather is on the way. reporter: a deadly series of storms pummeling the pacific

roads, creating massive sinkholes and now leading to dangerous land slides. >> i've never seen anything like this, it happened so quick. reporter: mud and debris shut down interstate 5 in southern washington, one of the busiest freeways in the country. in oregon a woman drowned when her car got stuck in this creek. and farther south on northern california's now rain soaked highways this deadly crash involving a semi truck. >> the wet weather is going to continue right through this weekend. any additional rain is going to make the existing flooding problems worse. reporter: rescue teams have been working nonstop, daytime into the evening. >> water over the roadway, people trapped in cars. reporter: those families spared from serious damage so far? >> got to have stuff up the the air, because the worst case is going to get three feet. reporter: aren't taking any chances. >> it's not over yet i don't think. reporter: the other big concern, massive waves up to 30 feet high crashing into coastal communities along the west

in oregon the coast guard says it's not sending boats out unless there's an emergency. josh: there's also a link between that stormy weather and the warm temperatures we're seeing in new hampshire. millions hayley -- meteorologist hayley lapoint is here to explain. hayley: it's all because of el nino, we've got abnormal movement of the storms, the jet stream well to the north of us, but it's dipping over the western parts of the u.s. north of us. the warm air is the big story though, today we had high temperatures again reaching into the 50's in a lot of spots. this is a calendar of the month of december so far and we're running 5.5 degrees above average. we only had one day, the first of the month, where we had had temperatures below the average. rest of the days so far have been at average or well above. of days.

in the month is about 39 degrees, that's where we should be today. but look at the temperatures over the next few days. well above that, we're talking 50's for highs, maybe even flirting with 60's over the weekend too in some of the southern communities. hooks like we don't see much of a drop until mid-week next week and certainly no snow in site either. for more on the full forecast, we go over to chief meteorologist mike haddad. mike: yes, you're right, the snow search continues around here, still struggling to fine it. although ski areas up north during the colder night have been making some. so there are a few slopes open, make sure you call ahead because it's limited now, but there is sumter rain. to the coast where the clouds and showers exited early today and now fair skies in southeastern new hampshire. but a lot of low clouds and dense fog filling in elsewhere including a good part of central new hampshire down to concord and points south and west. a few high clouds building in from the next system, that will

hampshire as it tends to dry out in time. what is not drying up, the low cloudiness, filling in the heart of the lakes region, the visibility down under a half mile in places like laconia, in concord, good portion of the monadnock region and plymouth not that bad, but down to three miles from rochester, manchester, south and east not an issue yet, but we'll ten to see low clouds and fog fill in there during the evening and overnight. temperatures in the upper 40's and lower 50's in many spots. tomorrow we make a run back into the same zone despite low clouds and fog in the morning and limited partial sun developing during the midday. a little more in the afternoon. right now it's 30's and 40's. so not anticipating any major issues in terms of any icing him there could be a little glazing in far northern parts of the state where it dips down below

but elsewhere we should hold above freezing through the night. so a relatively mild start to your friday and that means more mild weather surging on in, the jet treatment flow lining up right over the northern tier and what that means above normal temperatures lasting into a good part of next week. latest system that we're tracking showing no moisture in terms of showers, so we are storm-free for your friday. showers lift off to outbound north and northwest. for tonight, low clouds and fog, keep in mine to slow it down on area roads due to low visibility. same story for the morning commute. but then mid, late morning, clouds will tend to break as winds try to freshen out of the southwest, driving in 50's for many again, 40's to the north. then a little more in the way of sun as we go into the first part of the weekend, temperatures

police say alexander burke was intoxicated when he was behind the wheel of an s.u.v. and ran a red light, crashing into a honda pilot, killing a passenger. but during burke's probable cause hearing police officers testified that burke blamed his passenger, christa glen, saying she was the driver at the time of the deadly crash. >> i asked him again if he knew who was driving, and he pointed to glynn and stated she was. reporter: burke is charged with negligent homicide and aggravated d.w.i. 47-year-old is abell penna was pronounced dead on november 29. three others the the victim's car say they were driving home from the red arrow diner about 4:30 in the morning when they were broadsided. police say when questioned glynn was initially hesitant about saying who was driving. >> i informed her that this was a serious motor vehicle crash
