mike: we are in somersworth, and this is where his family lives. he was described i his battalion commander as an exceptional leader and an extraordinary man. andrew was 21 years old. he died wednesday at fort stewart in georgia. the army says he was seriously wounded during a live fire exercise and later died from his injuries. he was liked throughout his battalion and his death has affected all of his fellow rangers. he was born in manchester, graduated from dover senior high school, and lived in stratford. he enlisted in the army and 2013 and served one sure and afghanistan. today governor hassan expressed her sympathy. governor hassan: my condolences to corp. -- corporal aimesbury' s family.

man who gave his life to keep the rest of a safe and free. mike: the army says his death is under investigation. mike cronin, wmur news 9. shelley: the debate over the proposed kinder morgan pipeline continues. today hundreds gathered at the state house in protest. kinder morgan says the pipeline that would run through parts of southern new hampshire would decrease electricity costs. but as wmur' s heather hamel explains live, people protesting fear they' d have to foot bill. -- the bill. heather: yes, they came from all walks of life, past and present elected officials, business owners. they say that the kinder morgan type line is bad for the state. speaker after speaker aired concerns. kinder morgan says the pipeline could reduce electric bills by 35% because the natural gas

worry new hampshire ratepayers would have to foot the cost of the pipeline. with concerns so far reaching, they say this cannot be characterized as a not in my back yard issue. >> you would find that basically if a group want something, or recognizes the need for something, but they do not want to locate it near them. but guess what? we don' t need it and we don' t want it anywhere. heather: kinder morgan says we are committed to engaging and demonstrating why it is a necessary project for new hampshire. the governor says it is good people are speaking out and if the company cannot address concerns, the project should not move forward. heather hamel, wmur news 9. tom: a project created by unh marketing majors could be used by the state department to counter the radicalization of young people by extremist groups. wmur' s jennifer crompton is live in our portsmouth bureau, with more on their plan to

jen? jennifer: tom, the state department developed grants for schools around the country to develop anti-extremism medium campaigns -- media campaigns. one group at unh rolled out their campaign to prevent impressionable young people from being radicalized online. they call it the pax pledge, the latin word for peace, also an acronym for people against extremism. it is aimed at the venting young people from being targeted by extremist groups. >> if you have a young person who is not very popular, sitting at the back of the room, they want to become part of something. jennifer: pax gives them that something. students reveal a quarter of

they are lonely and over 90% have been contacted by people they do not know and they do not tell their parents. >> that is terrifying they are being contacted by strangers. some of them are reaching out people. we want to put an end to that. jennifer: using multimedia plan with tools for teachers and parents, a presence on facebook, the web, twitter, and instagram. >> it gives young people an opportunity to join something positive. we give them the pledge. they take the steps to honor that pledge. s really important. jennifer: u.s. senator jeanne shaheen is interested in making sure young people are heard. >> it so important and so smart. jennifer: unh is one of 25 schools in the united states and

take on this challenge. they will all be reviewed and three will get to go to washington to present their plans to the state department. live in portsmouth, jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. tom: well, a week from tomorrow the democratic presidential candidates for president will debate here in new hampshire. shelley: today, the chairwoman of the democratic national committee, debbie wasserman schultz, announced that the dnc will no longer include wmur in the debate due to on-going labor negotiations. in a joint statement, wasserman-schultz, and new chair, raymond buckley, said, in of wmur' s unwillingness to move forward on scheduling negotiations between the hearst corporation and production department employees represented by ibew local 1228 prior to the debate, we will no longer include wmur as a co-sponsor of the debate, and their talent will not be participating in any way.

manager jeff bartlett released a statement saying, needless to say, we' re disappointed that the efforts of the 140 wmur employees in helping organize this debate will now be undone. nevertheless, we' ll continue to cover the debate, and the candidates and campaigns. as for the negotiations with this particular union, we will continue with the policy we' ve followed with the many prior union negotiations we' ve successfully concluded -- to negotiate in good faith, and directly and not through any third parties. to that end, we have a mutually agreed-upon date for another meeting, which has been scheduled and confirmed for some two weeks now. shelley: abc' s democratic presidential debate will still air on wmur. coverage begins next saturday evening at 8:00. tom: our spirit of giving food drive kicked off today and we are collecting donations all weekend long. shelley: this year' s drive benefits the new hampshire food bank. wmur' s stephanie woods is live

they are speaking out in the hope of saving others. mia forrest is a senior at bow high school and like many, someone affected by drug addiction. mia: when i was younger i remember scary things happening, things. much. >> her brother became addicted to drugs. he was a freshman at the school. mia: it is something that can be fixed with the right treatments. it' s not a character flaw. >> to draw the attention to the drug problem in new hampshire, she held an event. her brother jordan was the guest speaker. >> i am not telling you not to do drugs, but this is what i found to be true. >> jordin' s message is simple.
