[captioning performed by the national captioning institute, which is responsible for its caption content and accuracy. visit ncicap.org] stephanie: we begin with breaking news out of exeter. route 101 east and west closed due to a crash. good evening, and thank you for joining us. i am stephanie woods. mike, what do we know so far? mike: route 101 between exits 11 and 12 has been closed and you can see the headaches what is causing in this area of exeter. cars are being diverted off of route 101 westbound and traffic is backed up in other directions. officials are not saying what the issue is and we are not allowed on the highway. take a look at this video sent to us from a viewer. cell phone video shows a car flipped upside down on the highway. it is unclear what led to the crash. each was have been set up at

of route 101 remain closed for now. officials are not saying when it will reopen. leave yourself some extra time because traffic is moving slow. we are hoping for an update soon from police could stay with wmur and wmur.com as we were to be posted with the latest. mike london, wmur news 9. stephanie: it was a beautiful day with temperatures in the mid-50' s for parts of the granite state. goffstown and portsmouth enjoyed clear blue skies. the question is, how long will this warm weather stick around. meteorologist hayley lapoint is here with the forecast. hayley: it is crazy how warm it has felt. take a look at these high temperatures. a good 20 degrees above the average high for this time of december, about 37. we reached 57 instead in concord, manchester, nashua. 54 in jaffrey. even in the low 50' s in whitefield and plymouth.

clear skies we had overhead, temperatures are dropping off relatively quickly good we are falling through the 40' s and even into 30' s. clouds are going to fill in. you can see that is the case. they are invading is the next storm system moves in. mostly cloudy overnight tonight and temperatures falling into the 30' s across the state. tomorrow, not as bright and sunny as today but still pretty mild. when do we get some colder air in here and maybe some snow? i want -- i will have the full sum-a forecast coming up. stephanie: state police had to use spike strips to stop a wrong way driver on a new hampshire highway early this morning. around 1:30, police say 26-year-old sean list of concord was driving southbound in the northbound lane of interstate 89 near exit 5. multiple people reported the car was driving fast, almost hitting a tractor trailer. state police say they used spike strips. list allegedly almost hit a trooper before stopping.

severe danger to the public. you never know what might be the cause of them driving the wrong way. endlessly, at a high rate of speed on the straightaway, you never know what is going to happen, the possible outcomes. stephanie: troopers say list refused a breath test. he was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless conduct, and disobeying a police officer. nashua police need your help to find a missing teen. 16-year-old ronaldo acosta was last seen in downtown nashua friday. he' s described as hispanic, 5' 7", 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. his family is concerned for his safety. if you have any information, please call nashua police. and now to commitment 2016. republican presidential candidate rand paul continued his swing through the state today. the kentucky senator made stops in nashua, concord, exeter, and lastly in manchester, where he spoke with supporters and made phone calls to voters. there he addressed the recent shootings in san bernardino, california, saying the country

gun control. senator paul: everything the left wants them everything president obama once with regard to gun control, they have in california. everything they are proposing in court gas, they have in california. it did not stop this in any way. the guns were purchased legally. stephanie: this is paul' s 24th visit to the granite state. fellow republican, new jersey governor chris christie, is also in the state campaigning today. christie held a town hall in weare this morning. he also made a stop at the d.w. diner in merrimack. a rising star in the democratic party was in the granite state today backing hillary clinton. senator cory booker from new jersey campaigned in nashua, manchester, and dover for the democratic presidential candidate. booker says of the causes he shares with clinton are a need to combat climate change strong foreign policy, and compassionate approach to battling addiction. in the latest wmur-cnn granite state poll, senator bernie sanders leads clinton by 10 percentage points in the new hampshire democratic primary. but booker says clinton'

campaign is gaining momentum. senator booker: there is an old saying my mom used to tell me when i started campaign -- who you are speech so loudly people cannot hear what you say. they want to feel you and touch will see not the characters being thrown at her by other people, but this is a mother, a grandmother, somebody that has a concern that we all should be future of our country, which is our kids. stephanie: and you can find the latest political news by heading over to our website, wmur.com/politics. today wreaths across america made deliveries to cemeteries across the country including here in new hampshire. hundreds of people packed into the state' s veterans cemetery in boscawen to lay wreaths at more than a thousand graves. the event coincided with wreath laying at the arlington national cemetery. wmur' s kristen carosa joins us now live with the story.

were honored to the days about remembering those who died making the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and teaching that to our youngest generation. it is a show of respect at the state' s veterans cemetery in boscawen and beyond. >> all our cemeteries in new hampshire who are participating are doing this on the very day that arlington is doing it, because we are acting as one in remembrance. kristen: the new hampshire blue star mothers organized the event and have done this since 2007. hundreds of people came to help lay wreaths at veterans graves to honor their sacrifice. >> every person out here gave so much. kristen: among the group, veteran leo, a and medal of honor recipient. >> after six years of being locked up, freedom is so precious. and these people paid for it. kristen: jason: it is something being taught to new hampshire' s

senator kelly ayotte brought her son. senator ayotte; to understand that we are only free because of the sacrifice of those who served our nation. kristen: one by one, wreaths were passed out at more than 1000 graves. >> this is great for the state of new hampshire that they have this. the veterans really deserve it. kristen: governor maggie hassan says the show of support shows i dedicated people in a new hampshire are to veterans and their families. governor hassan: it is a day we are remembering the kernel who passed away this week, and thinking of his family and his loved ones and wanting to express support and gratitude to them. kristen: both governor hassan and senator ayotte spoke at a ceremony following the wreathlaying. certainly an emotional day for all. kristen carosa, wmur news 9. stephanie: thank you so much, kristen. still to come on news 9 at 6:00, our spirit of giving food drive is more than halfway done. coming up, a look at what the new hampshire food bank needs

stephanie: the 2015 spirit of giving food drive is taking place this weekend and granite staters are coming out in full force to help at participating hannaford, shaws, and walmart stores. customers can purchase $5, $10, or $15 bags of food for families in need or you can drop your own food donations. canned proteins like fish, beans, and peanut butter along with rice, noodles, and soup are most needed. >> we have an incredible customer base you are very supportive of our community. we are supporting the salvation army food pantry. each about 28 stores has a local food pantry they are working with that falls under the new hampshire food bank and bella. >> 27 walmarts across new

one of them and pick up a blue bag or other items and drop them in the bucket on your way out. it is a great way to help families in need. stephanie: the new hampshire food bank received a $15,000 donation friday and another anonymous donors pointing to match $100,000 in donations. you can drop off donations at any hannaford, shaw' s, or walmart in the state through tomorrow. the new hampshire marine mammal rescue released oregano the seal back into the ocean tonight. oregano was rescued in rye back in october. he spent the last two months at the national marine life center. he was suffering from seal pox when he was rescued. hundreds came out this afternoon to cheer him on as he returned to the atlantic. aw, what a great video, so cute. i didn' t know seal pox was a thing. hayley: at least it was one for him. stephanie: is it going to stick around? hayley: cooler air ahead, too.

look at this, they are ice-skating this evening. not sure how they are keeping that ice frozen. looks like they are doing a good job. imagine, it is in the 40' s there right now and ice skating, you could do what santa is doing there, surfing instead. the temperatures we reached today. 59 in derry. 58 degrees in hudson, dover, walpole. the average height for this time in december, 37. that is where we should be. we haven' t even gotten there during the overnight in some locations that this has been a very warm stretch of days. in fact, all of december so far above average, except for december 1, first day of the month. look at the temperatures now. we have fallen into the 30' s, at least in a couple spots. 34 degrees in whitefield. 41 in concord. 46 in manchester. they will continue to fall, especially with the clear skies, at least in some parts of the state.

the average high come as i mentioned, 37 for this time in december. we are a good 10-20 degrees above that in most locations today. we did not quite make it to the record hiding concord, which was 67. that was sent back in 1979. regardless, it has been mild, and he does not look like we are going to see much of a change, even over the next five days. yes, we will take a little bit on monday. still, well above this average line here in the upper 30' s. even as we look forward to the work week ahead, temperatures still relatively mild. so here' s the scoop. this is what is happening now. we had a lot of clear skies across the area, some of the high, thin clouds as we went through the afternoon today. you noticed some of the thicker clouds, the light white color, now invading, those are the clouds. they will thicken up overnight. not expecting the rain showers

height pressure has been firmly in place and with air moving in pressure can we have been getting southwesterly flow. that is where all this warm air is pumping in. you have to go all the way out to the dakotas or the rocky mountains to get any snow or wet weather, even. here is how things are going to go. clouds increase for the rest of the evening here, and even during the day tomorrow. we will likely have some sunny breaks. 8:00 a.m. on sunday. most of the day tomorrow will be socked in with a lot of clouds. should remain dry. the change once we get into monday as the storm system approaches. monday morning, likely a little drizzle or a couple of spotty showers. the heavier rain, the study heavy rain with downpours, moves through monday night into tuesday. as you see there, it is in the form of rain still. here are the temperatures tonight. the 30' s across much of the state, and sunday, mostly cloudy. 40' s up north, 50' s in southern

they host edmonton on monday. the celtics are in charlotte tonight to take on the hornets. boston came oh, so close to knocking off the undefeated golden state warriors at the garden last night. the celtics had the lead several times throughout the game, and eventually forced double overtime, before finally falling, 124-119. the warriors improved to 24-0, the best start to a season in nba history. >> so i don' t take anything good from it other than we can teach a little bit from it and all that stuff. that is not true. i do take a lot of good stuff that we will talk about and see if we get a lot of good performances, but there really isn' t -- it doesn' t ease the pain of a loss, no matter what night is. and, hey, we have to play well tomorrow. they beat memphis by 20 tonight and they are one of the best teams in the east and it will be a heck of a challenge. we will need a lot of bodies and he needs guys to dig deep.

mccaffrey. quarterbacks have won the award the last five years. big day for plymouth state university, the first ever track meet in the new $32 million active living, learning, and wellness north building. the track is named after george davis, a 1963 graduate of plymouth state and a hall of fame track coach. on the state is in its first year with the varsity track and field program. the standard to date won the long jump and the 60-meter high hurdles. good renovations happening there at plymouth state. stephanie: looks like a beautiful new facility. great job, everyone.
