s debate. vote on our poll on our website on facebook or twitter. several proposals to deal with the drug crisis facing our state are now on the fast track toward becoming law. a special legislative task force is looking at everything from education to ways to target wmur' s ray brewer is live outside the state house this morning to break down the latest good morning. ray: good morning. the bipartisan task force including its worst and putting three bills on the fast track aimed at tackling the drug crisis. they could be on the governor' s desk as soon as next month. the three bills include harsher penalties for fentanyl dealers, studying increased distribution of narcan, and requiring drug education in schools. other bills focused on prevention, treatment, and recovery will either go through the normal legislative process or receive early recommendation meaning they' ll be voted on as , soon as possible when the full

session. >> i think this is a comprehensive approach that focuses on law enforcement, it focuses on recovery, and it focuses on treatment and that' s what we should be looking at. >> the stories that we' ve heard over the past 3 weeks are just so compelling. and it brings the real world into it. people are dying and we need to do something about it. ray: recommendations that require additional state money will go through the standard legislative process. some of the bills could be on the governor' s desk as soon as january 21. live outside the state house in concord, ray brewer, wmur new 9. sean: thanks. crews are still working right now to make repairs in manchester' s north end after a water main break yesterday afternoon. work is underway now at the intersection of elm and thayer streets. last night they were working near clark street.

flowing down the street leaving , people in the area without water. this was also right next to the historic john stark house and crews raced to protect the property. >> putting bags of speedy dry around the windows to keep the water from going into the basement. they have a little bit of water shouldn' t be an issue. sean: it is not clear exactly what caused the break. but officials say there is a lot city. they hope to have work wrpped up by 7:00 this morning. manchester police are investigating a pair of robberies including one frightening exchange. in this surveillance video from shawn' s corner market monday night you can see a man armed with a knife jump over the counter and then fight with the clerk while ordering him to open the register. he did get away with some cash. hours later, someone tried to rob the 7-11 on queen city avenue but the clerk grabbed a phone and locked herself inside the office. police are still trying to figure out if the cases are connected. a hudson woman is in a boston

up north we have lingering clouds. cooler air gradually over the next few days with wind picking up. one system between us and our weekend. details coming up. sean: the concord city council has agreed to use $30,000 to help open an emergency homeless shelter at the saint peter' s church this winter. the 60-bed shelter will open in saint peter' s church on north state street. the mayor says without the shelter the city would have had , to put people in hotels this winter and that would have cost even more money. it is not clear yet when the shelter will open. there is an informational meeting next monday at the saint peter' s parish hall for anyone interested in volunteering. a student from nashua needs your help so he can be a guest reporter for the college football national championship game. 21-year-old cam rogers is a journalism student at the university of maryland. he' s trying to win the

eight people were hurt when a southwest airlines plane rolled off the runway at nashville airport last night. an airlines official says the flight had just arrived from houston when it went off the taxiway as it approached the gate and got stuck. eight people were taken to the hospital with mostly minor injuries. it is unclear why the plane left the runway. a man in florida is accused of trying to break into jail so he could visit his friends. police say the man was high on drugs when he crashed his car into the front door of the jail. and then slammed into a fence and tried to climb over the razor wire before getting stuck. he suffered only minor injuries but now faces a long list of charges. congressional leaders and the white house have reached a deal on a spending plan to fund the federal government through next september. house speaker paul ryan announced the deal last night. the $1.1 trillion plan would raise domestic and defense spending, increase the deficit and lift a 40-year-old ban on exporting u.s. crude oil.

ray: when the legislature convenes in january, some of those bills recommended by the committee could be heard in a joint house session, meaning they could go to the governor' s desk as soon as january 21st. proposals aimed at addressing new hampshire' s substance abuse crisis could become law next month. three bills were expedited tuesday by a bipartisan task force in concord. the legislation consists of harsher penalties for fentanyl dealers, studying increased distribution of narcan, and requiring drug education in schools. in recent weeks, members of the task force listened to testimony and looked over several proposals. >> the stories that we' ve heard over the past 3 weeks are just so compelling. and it brings the real world into it. people are dying and we need to do something about it. ray: other bills focused on prevention, treatment, and recovery will either go through the normal legislative process

in 1997 when perry shot and killed epsom police officer jeremy charron. paul pleaded guilty to several charges related to that crime and was sentenced to 16-50 years in prison. yesterday the board found that paul violated 10 of the 13 complaints filed against him -- that included a drug offense and failing to report to his parole officer. >> it is clear that you cannot take him at his word. his words mean nothing and quite frankly he thinks your words mean nothing. if you' re going to say zero tolerance with all due respect , it has got to be zero tolerance. today is the or else day you keep telling this defendant about. sean: paul was sent back to prison for two years. he can apply to go before the parole board every six months. a peterborough man is fighting to recover one year after he was nearly killed when a seven pound rock crashed through the windshield of the car he was riding in. the rock crushed adam lecomte' s skull.

d be in rehab for two years, but he was home in just 4 months. lecomte does not remember the accident, but he is told that the rock must have been kicked up by a truck. now in a wheelchair, he is back running his contracting company. >> steps are very sloppy but i can take a few. that' s all new. the leg was supposed to be paralyzed. >> he' s alive and he' s doing awesome but it' s just hard seeing your brother like that. sean: lecomte says police still have the rock that struck him. investigators continue to look for the truck it came from. new statistics show that new hampshire has one of the highest high school graduation rates in the country. about 88% of granite state students graduated last year. the national rate is 82%. iowa has the highest graduation rate at 90%, followed by nebraska, new jersey, and texas.

helicopter crashed last night with 3 people on board. the chopper went down in rugged terrain about 55 miles east of phoenix. two people were killed but the third person survived. just last week four people were , killed when another medical helicopter crashed in california. jury deliberations resume today in the trial of a baltimore police officer charged in connection with the death of freddie gray. officer william porter is charged with manslaughter, assault and reckless endangerment. he' s the first of six officers to stand trial on charges stemming from gray' s arrest and death. gray' s neck was broken while he was being transported in a police van back in april. yesterday the jury deliberated for 8 hours without reaching a verdict. a massachusetts teen has been found guilty of raping and murdering his high school math teacher. philip chism' s attorney admitted that his client killed colleen ritzer in 2013 but said he was

illness. chism was 14 years old at the time of the murder. he is now 16 and was tried as an adult. ritzer' s family spoke out after the verdict was handed down, saying there can never be true justice for the crime committed against their daughter. >> there remains a tremendous and painful absence in our lives, one that, sadly, can never be replaced. sean: chism' s conviction on the first degree murder charge means he faces life in prison. but he can appeal and will eventually be eligible for parole. a sentencing date has not yet been set. a strong gust of wind is being blamed for causing a construction wall to collapse onto a sidewalk in malden, massachusetts, pinning several people underneath. a mother and her baby were among those hit by the falling wall. fortunately the baby was in a , stroller and all of the victims suffered just minor injuries. scary stuff. after proposing to his girlfriend in a unique way.

sean: the man actually shut down a busy interstate over the weekend so he could pop the question. you can see it here. he and his fiancee both got out of the car, bringing traffic to a standstill. the man is now charged with obstructing a highway. if convicted, he could face a fine or up to six months in jail. looks like she said yes. christians now have a new way to envision jesus christ. british scientists drew this portrait of what they believe jesus really looked like. the portrait was drawn using forensic anthropology, which is a similar method to how police solve crimes. as you can see, the drawing depicts jesus with dark skin and eyes and short curly hair -- contrary to many religious art depictions that feature a blue-eyed man with long hair. let' s talk sports. more tough news for the new england patriots. running back legarrette blount is out for the season after

sunday night in houston. blount leads the team with 703 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. deon lewis, the other excellent running back for the pats, is already out for the season with another injury. the remaining running backs on the 53 man roster are james white and brandon bolden. speaking of injuries. skier mikaela shifrin is off the slopes as she recovers from a torn knee ligament and a painful bone bruise. shifrin, who grew up in the lebanon area, suffered the injury during a training run for the giant slalom last saturday in sweden. considered the best technical female skier in the world, shifrin won gold in the slalom at the olympics, as well as the last 2 world championships. to the hard court now. the celtics took on lebron james and the cleveland cavaliers at t.d. garden last night. an early turnover by boston. james stole the ball and took it in for the score, but he did a lot of complaining to the refs, thinking he was fouled on the play. boston led after the first half 46-40.

the snowy weather prompted hundreds of flight cancellations and left dozens of drivers stranded on the roads. we' ve yet to see pictures like this out of new hampshire. kevin: summer winter season' s start first out west. normal air continuing from great around halloween and it looks like the pattern continues. the longer we go without any snow on the ground, temperatures at or above normal. this weekend we will have brisk winds, along with temperatures in the 30' s. that will add a chill to the air. wind chills through the weekend in the 20' s. clouds in the northern and western sections come i love this will erode -- a lot of this will erode. a blend of sun and clouds,
