sean: star wars is back. episode 7 hit the big screens. fans are leaving with big smiles on their faces. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: a bit of a washout yesterday. so much rain fell. people were wondering if it was snow, what would it be. sean: probably a foot of snow. maybe people will be complaining about that. ski country will be about that. kevin: we hear both sides all the time often daily. we can complain about it a lot. the weather is the weather. it is going to continue to do what it is going to do. we're going to try to keep up with it at times. you'll notice the patchy fog. plenty of clouds otherwise. the system will be passing off shore this morning. the clouds that are out there will try to break apart in to the afternoon. temperatures up in to the 40's before an air mass starts to build in overnight.

erin: it seems the push to end homelessness in new hampshire has stalled a little based on new numbers in an annual report. sean: the overall number of homeless people in the state is unchanged from a year ago. there's a shift on who is homeless. ray brewer is live in concord this morning to break down the new numbers. good morning, ray. ray: good morning. the city of concord is investing $30,000 at the church in concord to help meet the need. the new numbers come courtesy of new hampshire coalition to end homelessness. a number of homeless people in the state holding steady at about 1,600. the number had been dropping every year since 2011. and the number of homeless families in new hampshire is up 8% from last year. the group says affordable housing remains a serious challenge. >> that, of course, is very concerning. because, you know, those are children and parents that are are living in

on the streets or in their cars sometimes. ray: now there's some good news in the homeless report. the number of homeless veterans down 21%. the number of people living in unsheltered is down by a third. there have also been several new initiative launched in the past year to help people try to find homes. reporting live in concord, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: thank you so much. the state fire marshal's office is investigating a fire that heavily damaged the masonic lodge headquarters in farming torn. a car parked next to the building caught fire. the flames spread to the attic. the first floor of the building is vacant. the masons used the upper floors. no one was inside at the time. one firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation. the car was parked there for the last two weeks. a man has admitted to taking an underraged girl from new hampshire to massachusetts several

in sexual activity. he will spent ten years behind bars. 35-year-old lawrence marks of tewksbury pled guilt. he was identified last year. marks will be sentenced in march. sean: president obama will be in california today to meet with family members of those killed in the deadly shooting rampage two weeks ago. meanwhile the neighbor accused of conspiring has been arrested and charged with providing material support to terrorists. reports. >> good morning of en row cay marquez is in jail.

by hind bars. arriving at the courthouse to face serious terror charges. authorities say four years ago he bought the two assault rifles used until the shooting. marquez himself called 11 after the shooting spree, identifying farook as the killer, using his gun. the fbi raided the home soon after farook and his wife, tashfeen malik, opened fire killing 14 people. investigators say the two friends initially planned attacking a southern california community college. then they wanted to target drivers stuck in rush hour traffic on a california business. >> he provided a lot of details about the weapons and attacks planned. reporter: president obama will meet with the families and victims. marquez is facing weapons charges and

lawmakers are considering a bill on a statewide change. the results -- the rules in boston take effect on february 15th. sean: as you know, winter is off to a bit of a slow and warm start. state tourism officials are predicting a strong season. more than 7.5 million are expected to visit the granite state. those visitors are expected to spend more than $1 billion in just three months. christmas is one week from today. you are running out of time to wrap up your shopping and get your packages mailed. ups says today is the deadline to send things at regular shipping rates and have them arrive in time for the christmas. the post office says tomorrow is the deadline for first class mail. you have until monday for priority to arrive on time. dozens of major retailers are offering free shipping today. most don't have a minimum purchase requirement. if you guys wanted to ship me something at my

erin: or to the station. sean: if you want to ship it to the house, do you want to throw out your address? kevin: yes, yes. i guess he doesn't want any shipping. plenty of clouds. temperatures starting the day in the 30's. a couple of lower and mid 40's out there. the fog takes just a couple of hours to burn off after sunrise this morning. it shapes up to be clouds giving way to a few sunny breaks in to one last day with temperatures in the 40's before slipping back in to the 30's for highways weekend. that's closer to the averages for this time of year. it doesn't factor in the wind. if you are going to be outdoors either day over factor. you can notice the lake effect snow going on to the west. it is just a sign that the much colder air starts to build in. temperatures starting off from the upper range of the 30's to lower and mid 40's. 45 at the coast early this morning.

you can notice the decline in temperatures here going back in to the northern plains. temperatures are back this morning. high temperatures in to the afternoon in to the 40's to near 50 degrees. light wind if anything out of the northwest later on this afternoon. the trend this morning after any fog burns off is clouds early trying to give way to a couple of sunny breaks. the afternoon. as you know, up north there's the chance that the clouds hang on through a good part of the day. like the system passing to the south this morning, once that goes by in to the gulf of maine, we'll start to get the return flow around that. that means some colder air builds in over the weekend. you are going to notice a steady stream of clouds moving northwest to southeast. along with that, lake effect snow going to the west. there's the chance later in to the day we go tomorrow and in to tomorrow evening after some sunshine early to partial sunshine in the afternoon that we could see a small accumulation up in the white mountains in the north woods, central and

questions to see a couple of passing snow showers or flurries tomorrow. not expecting any problems as far as travel is concerned. up north, you start to lower the visibilities with the occasional areas of light snow and snow showers. it likely goes through saturday night before withering away. still the breeze which picks up tomorrow gusts over 25 miles an hour. it remains for the day on sunday. it will lighten up sunday evening and set up lighter winds starting monday ahead of the next system which is just moving in to the pacific northwest right now. most areas in to the 40's today. clouds to a couple of sunny breaks. still fairly mild through the afternoon before dropping in to the 20's to lower 30's later on tonight. along with that, maybe a few flurries around tomorrow morning up north. most areas start with sunshine tomorrow. only to add clouds in the afternoon. eventually that chance of a couple of passing snow showers for central and southern areas. up north, it is the light accumulation. a brighter day for us on sunday. still breezy and cool.

93 is hewing well. we're not seeing any problems or incidents on any of the major roadways. once again just allow extra time as fog remains in the area. if you are commuting in to massachusetts, we have an earlier problem that's literally just before cleared. 93 south there was a crash at exit 42 in andover that had the center lane blocked. that's been cleared. traffic is still jammed beginning at exit 46 and a lot of the onramps are jammed up as well. this report is brought to you by autofair. from the traffic network, i'm deb davidson for 95.7 wzid. thanks. the homeless head count has been reloosed. erin: the report has surprising numbers, including a change in some of the progress being made to eliminate homelessness. ray brewer is in concord. a new emergency shelter winter.

60-bed shelter here will open here in concord. it is sure to be a busy place once the cold weather sets in. now the newly released report says numbers of homelessness in new hampshire had been dropping since 2011. now they appear to have stalled. the annual count of new hampshire's homelessness population reveals the numbers haven't changed much between 2014 and 2015. the new hampshire coalition to end homelessness says it is disappointing to see the decline level off. >> the numbers remain fairly stagnant from last year to this year. there's not a big decrease in the numbers. ray: some of the factors point to improving conditions, like a 33% decrease in the number of people living unsheltered, buildings. fewer veterans are homeless. the coalition says there's an increase in

the working poor. up 24%. affordable housing remains a major challenge. the coalition is concerned about an 8% rise in homeless families. >> that, of course, is very concerning. because, you know, those are children and parents that are living in shelters or, you know, on the streets or in the cars sometimes. erin: there's some good news. several new initiatives they are hoping that will lead to a drop in the numbers of homeless state. live in concord, ray brewer, w00r news 9. sean: all right. a manchester man is accused of leading on a chase. an officer tried to pull the driver over for a traffic violation at the price rite. the man took off. car. they had to call off the concerns. they say they later located the driver at

arrested him without incident. erin: a deli in claire month will remain closed. the accident happened about 12:20 yesterday afternoon at farro's deli. it struck another vehicle and ran in to a concrete post. fortunately no one was hurt. >> i was making sandwiches. there's a loud explosion. glass shattered. seems like a car came over the medium and crashed. we just had a lunch rush. the second wave was coming in. it just happened at the right time. erin: no one was hurt. the driver of the jeep, 55-year-old patrick taylor of new york, was arrested on dwi and resisting arrest. filed. sean: salem police are asking for your help in tracking down

the man held up a citizens bank inside 7:00. employees say the robber claimed he had a gun. no weapon was shown. after threatening the employee, the robber undisclosed amount of cash. they have released a suspects. a woman told police she watched a motorcycle fall out of the back of a van. three hispanic men got out and pulled the motorcycle back in the police later determined that the van had been stolen from lancelot court. the motorcycle was stolen from tiffany road. anybody that recognizes the suspects is asked to call salem police. erin: the alstead woman who holds the only medical id car will receive the drug across the border in maine. linda horan is suffering from stage iv lung cancer. she sued to obtain the card. last month the judge

supporters plan to be at dispensary when she picks up her medical marijuana today. sean: the date for new hampshire's presidential primary has been announced. voters head to the polls. they made the announcement yesterday in concord. he unveiled a special poster to commemorate the primary. the iowa caucuses will take place eight days before the new hampshire primary. erin: we want to thank everyone who donated to the spirit of giving food drive. we raised $100,000 to receive a matching donation. $235 will benefit the new hampshire food bank. >> unfortunately the need is growing. last year we sent out about 11 million pounds. this year we'll probably do 12.5 million. the need is even greater. it is just based on what

hillary clinton, bernie sanders, and martin o'malley have no public events, a sign they could be in prep mode. in an interview with "the union leader" sanders is tipping his hand he might challenge hillary clinton on foreign policy. some are pushing the candidates to push the drug epidemic. others question the timing. >> it really seems like a debate that was timed intentionally to get a low viewership as possible. chances are they are going to get what they wanted. nikole: they have denied charges about its debate scheduling. as for the polling in to tomorrow night's debate, hillary clinton continues to lead bernie sanders and martin o'malley. sanders continues to perform well in the granite state. sean? sean: let's switch to the republicans now. there's still fallout from their debate earlier this week. let's talk about that.

reynolds disappeared. police thinks the family knows more than they are revealing. they think she's dead. they found blood in their home. the case remains active and open. it is the largest criminal investigation in maine state police history. sean: a close call for a woman in massachusetts. a bullet flew in a home in a area she was standing seconds before. they think it may have come from a rifle club. moments after carl stepaneck hung up her phone, a bullet shattered a picture frame. >> i couldn't even think. i'm not kidding. i couldn't believe it was happening. >> i think i have a right to live without having to worry about my mother being shot in the guest quarters upstairs. sean: police are still trying to figure out where the bullet was

both clubs existed long before houses were built in the area. over the years, stray bullets have struck other homes as well. erin: a man in texas got a shock when he saw a minivan driving through the neighborhood. you have to see the video. three people, he thinks they were all kids, riding on the roof of the van looking at christmas lighteds. look at that. the minivan had its hazard lights on. he says the people on the roof look like they were kids, children between the ages of nine and ten. >> i can't believe someone would put their kids on the roof of the car and drive thru the neighborhood. that's insane. >> i think that's nuts. no responsible parent would ever put their child on top of a vehicle. absolutely not. erin: police say if the people on the roof for kids, several laws were broken. there's no way to tell for sure if they were children. sean: a woman in georgia is pushing for a law that would

while they are going through a divorce. april ross was left paralyzed when she was husband. she wants georgia lawmakers to pass a bill that prohibits spouses from buying a weapon judge's permission. if the law does not pass, ross would like to see them approval a law that would alert the spouse if the other spouse purchases a gun. erin: there's a common stereotype that british people have worse teeth. according to a study, there's no word that's true. this guy may need to see a dentist. the study published -- in some cases -- sean: she's got one tooth. erin: british's people oral health was better than their u.s. counterparts. the average number of missing teeth is higher in the u.s. than it is in the uk. sean: it is a goal of mine now not to become a vile photo.

temperatures jump back in to the 40's and 50's. there's a storm system located off shore. it will stay off shore along with associated rainfall. the thicker cloud cover around should give way to a couple of breaks in the overcast with drier air later on this afternoon as it heads in to the gulf of maine. opening is much colder air out of canada. lake effects snow. cold enough for that out in that direction. temperatures starting mid 40's. without the snow on the ground, it is very easy for these numbers will be at or above normal. it continues when you have the overnight lows in the lower range of the 40's. the normal low, concord, is in the upper range of the teens. we're 30 degrees above that this morning. we continue on again to allow for those temperatures to continue to work their way upward. 40's for a lot of folks in to the afternoon. off to the proverbial runs start. thick fog in the areas
