plowed along the strip in las vegas. witnessing say it crashed in to the crowd a second time. >> now wmur "news 9 daybreak". erin: good morning to you on this monday. thanks for joining us today. i'm erin fehlau. it looks like we're in for some record warmth come the holiday. kevin skarupa with a look at that. thursday. it's a chilly start. it is a gradual process. we have plenty of clouds this morning. there will be a building breeze out of the southwest today. we can't rule out a passing shower up north, temperatures through the afternoon with a lot of drier hours mixed in getting anywhere from the 40's to just above 50 in a couple of southern areas. the first of any rain chances starting to move in later on tomorrow.

coming up. let's look at your morning drive. joined live by deb davidson. good monday morning, deb. deb: good monday morning. all major roads in the state of new hampshire are moving well and up to speed. 93 south not seeing any delays down to the hooksett tolls and from manchester in to salem. commuting on to 293 is an easy ride through the mill yard and everett turnpike. if you are commuting in to massachusetts and heading in to and around th boston area, all major roads are moving well and up to speed. this report is being brought to you peter's honda, kia, and nashua. erin: all right. thank you. all schools in the city of nashua are closed today after the district superintendent says they received a detailed threat to harm students

and south high schools. the fbi has now joined the investigation after that e-mail was received yesterday. wmur's ray brewer is live outside of nashua high school north with more on the threat and also the response. ray: police say they will have additional patrols at the schools to try to ease concerns of parents. the state police bomb squad was here last night. officials are releasing few details about the threat. other than to say it was an e-mail and mentioned violence today to hurt students. they also say they can't determine if the threat was actually credible or not. shortly after 6:00, the district put out 14,000 automated phone calls announcing that all 17 schools would be closed today. >> it is a tough decision to make, you know? these seem to be going on throughout the country. they seem to be happening more frequently.

many different levels. >> me as a parents it fears me and scares me. i don't want to send my kids to school and not have them come back home. : the threat was only directed toward the two high schools. they are being very careful and closing all schools in the city. two private schools are also closed. officials have not said where the threat came from. the superintendent does say he expects schools will re-open tomorrow. live in nashua, ray erin: all right. thank you. the state is keeping a close eye on the situation. there are no threats to any other schools or businesses in the granite state. governor hassan released a statement last night saying that state police and state emergency management officials are working with local and federal investigators. she added quote public safety is any government's most important responsibility. especially at our schools. we will continue to monitor the situation

reporter: witnesses say the driver hit a group of people and drove back up on the sidewalk. >> it looked like she wasn't trying to stop the car. she had both of the hands on the wheel. she was driving straightforward. >> we have determined this was an intentional act. reporter: they determined there was a child in the car. >> we know the toddler was in the vehicle, who was three, and unharmed. reporter: witnesses jumping in to action. >> people, pumping the window trying to get the child out of the back seat. reporter: a reporter with the las vegas affiliate on the scene moments after the crash. >> this was around where he was standing when he saw the car. my photographer is going to show you he saw the car come up, drive fast, and right there where you see the yellow cones. that's where we are told 37 people were injured according to officials.

eventually take none to custody. determine if she was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. reena ninan, abc news, new york. erin: back here they say a cooking problem sparked a two-alarm fire in nashua that homes. when forecasts arrived, they found heavy fire on the first floor of the three-story building with flames spreading up the outside. one resident suffered minor burns to his face. a firefighter was injury. >> there are a lot of fires at this time of the year. there's a lot of things that people need to be vigilant about. it is home preparedness. making sure you know how to get out of the house. >> this building did have working smoke detectors. that likely helped get serious injury. the man accused of setting a car on fire is due in court this

33-year-old conrad parent iii admitted to torching the vehicle. parent is charged with arson and he does know the owner of the car. maggie hassan is calling for the public utilities commission to open a full investigation today in to liberty utilities. the move coming after a problem caused the company to send pure propane to more than 1,200 customers exposing them to high levels of carbon monoxide. >> it is really, really important that all of our guests system works and are safe. that's what we want to focus on right now. erin: a spokesperson says they have been communicating with the puc throughout the emergency. they expected the governor to call for this investigation. a man is due in

police say appears to be a random drive-by shooting. 33-year-old michael filinuk of pennsylvania is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. he was driving past a shopping plaza in rutland when he shot a woman about to get in to her car. she was able to walk to a radioshack. she was treated for a gunshot wound to the arm. he quickly turned himself in to police. a woman accused of attacking her roommate is due in court today. 69-year-old fiona gordon mcleod called and said she had pledgenned her 76-year-old roommate. the victim was flown to dartmouth-hitchcock medical center with serious injuries. talk about a great christmas present. more than 100 new hampshire soldiers are

erin: welcome back. the most polluted site in the country is now a national park. it is in washington state. it is home to the first full sized nuclear reactor along with two ghost towns which were evacuated to make room for the atomic bomb. everything on the tour is perfectly safe with any radioactive materials miles away from where visitors will be allowed. the force awakened in a big way. the new movie brought in

million in the first weekend, making it biggest north american debut of all time, easily beating the previous record held by "jurassic world." it will continue to set new records. the new alvin and the chipmunks was a very, very, very distant second. gas prices keep on falling. the national average of $2 a gallon is the lowest since april of 2009. all gas stations in the country are selling for here in new hampshire, the average is still $2.02. that's 55 cents lower than a year ago opinion experts say prices may continue to fall. there are many impressive christmas light displays all over the state these days. some of them are mobile. we spotted this truck all lit up last night. we would love to see your favorite displays.

lights on the u local page at wmur.com. you can check out pictures of other displays there as well. maybe kind of come up with your own little tour to check out some of the lights out there. kevin: it is a fun time of year to get out there and check out the creativity or drive around and see someone driving around. we start off early this morning with what looks like a quiet pattern as we kick off the day. a fairly chilly start. there are quite a few clouds around. that will templar the sunshine in to the afternoon. all the while we start off in the teens, you'll likely get in to the upper 30's. you start off in the 20's to lower range of the 30's. likely get back in the 30's to lower 50's. two rounds of rain. we're looking at one tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. another one wednesday afternoon. once that goes by, we're looking at record warmth as a possibility on christmas eve. high temperatures between 55 and 65.

on christmas day. we'll drop in to the 40's as we ring in christmas itself. you'll notice plenty of clouds. there are going to be a few breaks here and there. not a lot of shower activity under the clouds. there will be the risk of a shower up north. that would be a rain or snow shower in to the afternoon. it is the next system here that arrives later tomorrow afternoon out ahead of that. again the risk of a shower through this evening and the better chances of rain tomorrow afternoon. temperatures in the teens up north. 27 on top of mt. washington. an indication there's milder air eventually. we're either side of 30 in southern areas of the state. there's a look at the warmth here. all of this slowly heads in our direction. the front that knocks us out doesn't arrive until early on christmas day. before the colder air gets here, we can get one more mild day on christmas day itself. temperatures ranging from 38 to as high as 52 in places like nashua or

plenty clouds with a few breaks trying to develop in to the afternoon. small chance of a shower today. better chance of a passing shower later tonight in the north country. any clouds or breaks of sunshine give way to you'll notice another round moving in tomorrow. some of it could be heavy tomorrow evening. after a brief break on wednesday with the chance of sunshine early, another round of rain moves in. wednesday afternoon and wednesday night it is behind that we get the milder temperatures. highs in the 50's and 60's. still in the 50's for christmas day. high temperatures today for a lot of folks will be in the 30's. a couple of lower 50's in south eastern areas. then tonight we'll drop back in to the 30's up north and lower 40's in southern areas with an overcast sky and maybe a mixed shower up north. it is all about the rain chances. you'll notice again one tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. another one wednesday

it is from there we turn warm. the record highs are only in the 50's for both concord and for portsmouth. the concord numbers go back 155 years. this will be about as warm of a christmas eve as we've had. last year we were raining with temperatures in the 50's. 51 was the high on christmas day in concord last year. we'll best that this year. erin: we will be dreaming of the white christmas. we're not going to see it. kevin: seems about the only way you are going to get the white christmas. erin: all right. stories. we start with ray brewer ray: where all of the schools are closed after the school district received a threat. they couldn't determine whether or not the threat was credible, out of an abundance of caution they decided to close the schools. they aren't releasing very many details. it was e-mail and directed against student high schools.

christopher schools have closed today. he does expect the schools to re-open tomorrow. erin: ray, thanks. the fbi says it is helping nashua police to assess the threat which has prompted a response from state officials. >> at this point, the good news is that we don't feel this is any threat to any other schools other than the ones that were mentioned we nashua. erin: governor maggie hassan is responding to the threat. she released a statement saying quote i've been in contact with the mayor and the emergency operational center and state police and state emergency management. officials are working closely with the nashua police department. local public safety officials and the fbi are also helping. three people charged in connection with a violence home invasion

court today. 18-year-old dominic ferrari and trenton mcdonald are facing charges, a third suspect, tasha le bow -- lebeau is charged with accomplice. they received reports of an injury man running between houses. they say the victim pass the out, but not before describes he was how injured while fleeing his apartment. >> he ran to the back deck and jumped off and ran through the woods about 200 yards down to nelson street. erin: the victim was flown to center. officers got a description of the pickup truck and pulled them over in andover.

reported stolen and numerous weapons were found inside. firefighters say an unattended frying pan sparked a fire that left four people homeless. the flames broke out shortly after 8:00 at a house on carol street. the second floor was destroyed and the first floor sustained smoke and water damage. one person suffered smoke inhalation and is refused treatment. >> everyone is evacuated. firefighters rescued one on the first floor. there were four cats. they got three of them out on their own before the arrival. erin: the red cross is now assisting four people that were displaced by the fire. they also responded to the fire at cactus jack last night. they believe the fire started in the hood system in the kitchen. the restaurant was there's no word yet on the extent of damage.

recovering after falling 150 feet off of a cliff in barring barrington. they say the teen was taking pictures on top of the cliff when he slipped on icy rocks. the teen was flown to the hospital. there's no word on the extent of his injuries. a17-year-old from rollinsford is accused of selling stolen firearms. the suspect is being treated as a juvenile. coming up, a nationwide investigation involving the lottery. authorities are trying to determine if a scheme to fix numbers may have extended to dozens of states. and a major mishap at the miss universe contest. host steve harvey accidently announced the wrong winner. kevin: plenty of clouds and a couple of rain chances with uncommon warmth by the end of the week.

john kasich has stops planned in poston mouth, rochester, and concord. busy day. now to a heartbreaking story. a 4-year-old boy was killed over the weekend in a fire at his home. firefighters were called shortly before 11:00. when crews went inside, they found 4-year-old caleb nardilillo. >> i just saw him yesterday. i can't wait for santa claus to come. erin: it was the scene of a fire years ago. a mother and eight children were killed. rescuers continue a search for 91 people after a landslide buried

a man made mountain of soil and construction swept through an industrial park burying or damaging 33 buildings. the landslide covered an area of one million scare feet with up to 20 feet of mud. a nationwide investigation involving the lottery is now underway. >> if people don't trust the honesty of the system, the participation of the lottery is going to dwindle and be jeopardized. erin: authorities are investigating a scheme that started with eddy tipton. he was convicted of hacking in to computers in iowa so they would pick his winning numbers. prosecutors say he asked people that he know, including his brother, to help collect jackpots totaling about $8 million. they are looking in to gains in dozens of other states. there was a major mistake. major.

how do you say thank you with another gift going the other way. erin: interesting; right? kevin: it is. we start off with quite a few clouds. that's kept temperatures up as opposed to the chilly temperatures that we've been seeing over the weekend. we're in the teens in the north country. 20's to lower 30's elsewhere this morning. a fairly quiet start to our short workweek. from here, we are looking at the clouds to maybe produce a quick passing shower in central and northern areas. that should be about it. a lot of hours to the day today. a building freeze out of the southwest. it is going to be a theme over the next several days as these disturbances coming from the southwest and continuing to feed in milder air eventually peaking on christmas eve. round of rain. here tomorrow afternoon. it will be around here tomorrow evening. temperatures not too bad to take. the normal lows in the

we're right around the freezing mark. still some mid 20's as you get down in to some of the lower valleys. upper teens up north. looks like it will be a quick jump to about 20 degrees for most which places most in the north country in to the upper 30's and lower 40's. 40's to maybe near 50. places like rochester it will be a fairly light wind. that will start to pick you were. it will be going at times later with a mostly cloudy sky at 10-20 miles an hour. there's a look at the thinning of cloud cover. more clouds than sunshine today. really not much in the way of any kind of shower activity except in the north country. that leads us to temperatures from the upper 30's to or 40's to near 50. mixed shower up north. that could be in mixed form. a round of showers moving in tomorrow. the round of showers should be around tomorrow evening. then after it goes by, another round moving in from the southwest later

in to wednesday evening. that system after it pulls through will bring in more of a westerly wind. before the cold front gets here on christmas day, we're talking highs in the 50's and 60's on the 24th which will be record warmth for concord and portsmouth. still in the 60's before things start to cool off a bit. here's a look at it in your form. you notice temperatures back in to the 40's. it is 40's to lower range of the 50's. tomorrow with a rainfall tomorrow. another round of showers wednesday afternoon and wednesday night. that should let up early thursday. the highs for christmas eve in the 50's and 60's. still in the 50's before falling off with partial sunshine by the time we get toward the weekend. i guess the bottom line is once we get the rain out of here early on the 24th, it looks like excellent traveling conditions and warmth elsewhere. erin: all right.
