stephanie: right now, a deadly storm is headed towards new hampshire. tornadoes and snow, hitting the south. >> travel troubles tuesday. how much snow and a timeline. stephanie: candidates are gearing up for a final push before the first in the nation primary. a suspect wanted for several bank robberies in new hampshire and vermont is in police custody. after a search by the u.s. marshals, he turned himself in to police. meteorologist a.j. burnett tells us when the storm will arrive. a.j.: we first have to get through tonight, which is basically cold temperatures, and anything that may be left on the ground from earlier today may tend to freeze up a little bit. watch out for slick spots. no problems weather-wise through tonight. tomorrow morning' s commute is going to be just fine. clouds are on their way out. down to the south, there is that system stephanie was talking about, a large area of low pressure. lots of snow in western texas. that is our system that heads this way after midnight monday night going into tuesday. the morning drive tuesday is going to be slippery, very slow, low visibility, and there will be a mix or changeover that takes place and causes the

transformers blowing up. reena: the tornado that blew apart the town of garland, texas was clocked at an ef4. in the neighborhood of rowlett, the ferocious gusts made playthings of large trucks like these and tour trees from the earth. as the death toll rises, those that survived are giving thanks. >> i' alive and safe. reena: in missouri, flooding like this led the governor to declare a state of emergency sunday night. the same storm system is dumping heavy snow from new mexico to michigan, and spiking the misery index for holiday travelers. >> i would call it a nightmare. that' s a good way to put it. reena: more than 1000 flights in the u.s. canceled, more than 4000 delayed, and that winter

with a winter storm warning, facing temperatures in the teens. the snow heads to the northeast, making a huge mess by tuesday. reena ninan, abc news. hampshire, local landscaping companies are preparing for the snow tuesday. ryan conner, the owner of noble landscaping out of hooksett, spent his day checking his snowplow and snow blowers. he offers salting and snow state. by now, he is usually well into that, but this year, his team has been doing yard work into december, but now he says he' s ready for winter to start. >> i feel it is half the business really. in a good season, you are doing plowing for a few months. it' s a little different. stephanie: connor says it he is keeping a close eye on the

to commitment 2016 coverage, several candidates will be back in the granite state before the new year. mike cronin joins us live with a preview of who is in new hampshire this week and what we can expect. mike: candidates are hoping to end 2015 on a positive note, and over the next six weeks, they will make their final pitch to voters. before the final push begins in january, some candidates are taking advantage of the calm. republicans donald trump, jeb bush, and john kasich will be in new hampshire. democrat hillary clinton also returns. once 2016 arrives, it' s a race to the finish. >> chris christie and john kasich and jeb bush, they will be here pretty much nonstop. they have staked their candidacies on new hampshire. mike: trump continues to succeed in polls in the gop campaign. political analyst dean' s billy

his retail politics on social media instead of new hampshire streets, and he doesn' t expect that to change next month. stephanie: >> there is speculation he will engage in a little bit more retail politics, but what often happens in january is we get these big rallies. >> i think we have a lot of undecided voters. it is donald trump' s to lose. mike: there are other republicans who could sway independent voters. >> chris christie is doing well. marco rubio is another one to watch. mike: on the democratic ballot, a victory in iowa could give a new hampshire. >> bernie sanders is doing well, but he has to wrestle it away from hillary clinton. mike: in the coming weeks, voters can expect to see a spike in ads from the candidates. >> there is some question about

years ago and holding her captive for eight months. he faces more than 200 charges in carroll and cholos counties. these charges carry penalties that could send him to prison for life. police need your help finding a gunman after an armed robbery after -- at a berlin convenience store last night. a masked man allegedly walked into the berlin mills variety store around 6:35, pointed a gun at the clerk, stole cash, and ran away. officers searched the area but weren' t able to find the gunman. if you have information, please call berlin police. a man accused of robbing several banks in new hampshire and vermont is behind bars. vermont state police say 31-year-old matthew martin turned himself in this morning. martin is suspect it in a half dozen bank robberies -- suspected and a half dozen bank robberies in new hampshire and

a new hampshire man was arrested in maine after a high-speed chase last night. police say christopher archibald of farmington, new hampshire was driving a stolen car when they tried.to pull him over officers arrested him when he hit a dead-end road. and man from keene is facing charges after police say he caused a crash last night. officers say 32-year-old robert tyler was writing in a car with his girlfriend when the couple got into an argument and things turned violent. tyler allegedly assaulted the woman, causing her to veer off the road and sideswipe a house. police say tyler fled the scene of the accident. he is charged with domestic violence and assault. a man seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident in hudson has been upgraded from critical condition to serious at mass

meany was thrown from his motorcycle and into the woods. curve when he clipped a telephone pole. the time of the crash. a crash shut down a road in manchester around 7:30. the corner of 2nd street and west hancock. injuries or what caused the accident. police responded to the report of a pedestrian accident in laconia this afternoon. a 21-year-old woman was crossing the street at a crosswalk at union avenue and messer street when a van hit her. the woman was taken to lakes general regional hospital. thankfully, she is expected to be ok. the driver is not facing any charges. two people are displaced after a house fire in moultonborough. it took firefighters an hour and a half to knock down the fire on whittier highway. they rescued three dogs from the

a firefighter was taken to the hospital for a minor back injury. the fire was caused by a broken grill on the porch. portsmouth residents who drank contaminated well water at the former pease air force base may have to wait until april to get lab results. the state department of health and human services says more than 1000 people got their blood tested between august and october. results will start going out in the mail in january. officials shut down the well last year after levels of the chemical were found to be 12.5 times higher than the epa' s advisory. olympic gold medalist hannah kearney -- [no audio] she competed in three olympics and won the gold medal at the 2010 winter games. today, she took runs with guests , and people could take photos with her at the base lodge. she will be at waterville tomorrow.

deadly shooting in chicago. the death of a 19-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman was "an accident." they were shot when police responded to a call of a domestic disturbance early saturday. 100 neighbors and activists gathered outside the home today for a vigil and to demand answers. >> why do you have to shoot first and ask questions later? it'

department is undergoing a investigation looking into the use of force. in mississippi, what should' ve been a routine traffic stop ended with the police officer shooting and killing the suspect. antique pickup truck over for failing to yield to traffic. however, the truck took off, starting a 20-minute car chase. authorities are not saying why officers opened fire, only they were forced to discharge their weapons. the case is under investigation. the boston chipotle that were shut down due to a norovirus outbreak has reopened. city health inspectors said that tests of the building and employees came back negative for the disease, and chipotle was given permission to reopen. while the restaurant was quiet, some patrons are excited for

>> we have been here a bunch of times. we' ve never had a problem. it' s probably cleaner now than it' s ever going to be. stephanie: because of chipotle' s suspended license, it will be subject to more frequent inspections on the health department. most restaurants are inspected once a year. firefighters are making progress against a massive wildfire in california. today, evacuation orders were lifted for dozens of homes, and firefighters have the blaze 60% contained. the fire may have started from downed power lines. thanks to wins dying down, 600 firefighters and water-dropping helicopters were able to stop the fire from spreading. >> now your storm watch 9 forecast. a.j.: fortitude -- 42 degrees in concord and rochester. it was one week ago were temperatures only made it up to 38 degrees, and the entire week of christmas, featuring above-average temperatures. 47 in jaffrey.

right now, we are sitting in the 30' s and close to freezing, if not just below freezing, up towards whitefield and berlin. watch out in these areas where you are flirting with freezing. anything left over on the roadways, the sidewalks may turn a little bit slick overnight tonight as temperatures fall back to 30 degrees or into the 20' s. not much happening outside right now on the radar. high pressure is starting to build in. we have a winter weather advisory posted for tomorrow night and into tuesday. winter storm watch as for higher amounts of snow, including carroll county, much of maine, as well. high pressure for tomorrow here.

snow into western texas. that same system heads this way. that' s going to deposit the snow on us as we head towards tuesday. no question we' ve got this cold air starting to move southward into new england south and eastward. at the lower levels, by the time that cold air moves in, it will be cold enough for frozen types of precipitation, because our air at the lowest levels is coming from james bay. however, this is going to be the interesting part of the forecast. at 13,000 feet, we' ve got some mild air coming from the caribbean, and it will move in in time for the system to get here. the middle levels will warm up and cause the snow to melt and then re-freeze at the lower levels. that is going to set us up for a transition to sleep and freezing rain -- sleet and freezing rain early tuesday.

s going to cause problems tuesday. once we get towards 8:00, 9:00, that is when the changeover will start to happen across southern new hampshire. into the mountains northward, we are talking about more in the way of snow and sleet. here is that timeline on the snow. by the time we get towards noontime, we are left with drizzle, pockets of freezing drizzle from time to time. 20' s ten-year 30' s overnight tonight. it' s going to be a chilly day for tomorrow. let' five-day forecast. starting at the week nice, but we get rather stormy on tuesday. tuesday morning is going to be the worst of it, and we are talking about the potential for 4-8 inches of snowfall, and points northward.
