the marine raiders. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 at 6:00. jean: we continue to follow breaking news. emergency crews responded to a skiing accident on ragged mountain. authorities say a boy fell off a chair lift about 3:30 this afternoon. good evening. img mackin. --i and jean mackin. adam: mike cronin has details. mike: the boy was alert and responding to questions. this afternoon, the father and together. mountain when one of the boys fell off. ski patrol from the base and summit responded. before the dispatch helicopter got here, it was called off. the blue was taken the hospital

the circumstances surrounding the accident and the nature of his injuries are unclear. ragged mountain is investigating and will release more information as it becomes available. mike cronin, wmur news 9. adam: thanks. the state fire marshal is investigating a fire in alexandria after flames broke out at a home on fowler river road. this is the same home where a 11-month-old boy sustained fatal injuries this past november. the fire chief says no one was home at the time of the fire. wmur' s kristen carosa joins us now with new details on the investigation. kristen: investigators spent a good part of the day inside looking for answers. neighbors say the fire is concerning and complicates what is already going on. crime take surrounds this home on fowler river wrote in alexandria after a fire tore through, damaging the structure beyond repair. >> there was a lot of smoke and i was concerned. kristen: this woman lives across the street and heard emergency

flames broke out friday night. >> there were probably a dozen fire trucks and more responders, trucks from volunteers who were showing up. kristen: firefighters battled the blaze from the outside, crews were on scene for hours, the chief believes the fire is suspicious. >> we refused to put anybody into the building so it was an all exterior attack for us. kristen: thankfully, no one was inside at the time. >> as far as i know the property , has been vacant for a month or so. kristen: it' s the same home where 11-month-old shawn sylvester was critically injured in he later died from those november. injuries. his death was ruled a homicide but no arrests have been made in connection with his death. however, 29-year-old tommy page, a person living in the home at the time of the incident, is in custody for possessing child sexual abuse images. >> we treat any fire that we get called to the same, we will do a thorough investigation regardless of any circumstances that surround where we are at or

kristen: investigators from the s office are now sifting through debris, looking for clues. a cause has not been determined , but investigators are focusing on the first floor of the home. >> i just wish we had more information as a community, it seems like things are under control but it just helps me to know information, i am a curious person. kristen: we spoke to shawn sylvester' s grandfather this afternoon. he says this fire is making the situation more difficult to deal with as they wait for justice for their grandson. live in studio, kristen carosa, wmur news 9. jean: two people were taken to the hospital after a crash in goffstown. officers say two pick up trucks crashed on north mast road. one driver apparently crossed over the center line and hit the other truck in the side. both drivers were injured. right now, it is unclear what caused the crash. a sunny saturday in the granite state. you' re taking a live look in

meteorologist hayley lapoint tells us about a big cool down on the way. hayley: december was the warmest ever on record. we are coming off of warm air. we are not used to it being this chilly. even the temperatures today felt cold. 34 in concord. 33 in lebanon. we won' t be close to those temperatures in the 30' s as we push forward. we have clouds filling in. it is a night where we will have patchy areas where you will be able to see the stars. otherwise, cloudy. snow showers across the area. tomorrow, we will have more snow showers and clouds as an arctic cold front slides through. tomorrow will not be the cold day. temperatures similar to today. wait until you see the high temperatures and low temperatures into the start of the workweek. spoiler alert, real cold.

jean: you can get alerts about winter storms and school closings in your area. download the app today. adam: the state has a new program to help you quit smoking. the new hampshire department of health and human services is offering free nicotine replacement therapy to residents who want to quit smoking or chewing tobacco. it' s part of a statewide campaign called tips from former smokers. residents must be at least 18 and willing to participate in free telephone counseling. you can register online or by calling the new hampshire tobacco helpline at the bottom of your screen. jean: gas prices here in new hampshire and nationally have fallen below the $2 mark. and aaa predicts you' ll pay even less at the pump this year. it estimates that the average price for a gallon of regular will be between $2.25 and this $2.45 year. $2.40. aaa also projects the national

-- $.10 in the coming weeks. adam: they were called the marine raiders, one of the last surviving raiders lives in new hampshire. he led the effort to leave behind a lasting tribute. he is 95-year-old harold sheffield of bristol and wanted to honor his fellow raiders because they lost a lot of men. >> it means a lot to me because you are apt to forget things. we all do. the kids in school, you ask them who were fighting in world war who the enemy was. adam: mr. sheffield is hoping to monument in the spring. jean: a wonderful project. the prize money for the again. s winning ticket is worth. atom: thanks to snow this week, many people are hitting the slopes.

the snow this week. people hit the slopes at pats peak today. they have 28 trails and 11 lifts open right now. and every saturday night from 3 to 10, they have a discounted rate of $49. adam: but not all local ski areas are ready to open yet. manchester' s mcintyre ski area has pushed back it ski lessons by a week. it had hoped to open by the end of this week but announced yesterday that conditions still aren' t right. it has set a tentative opening date of january 8. jean: they will get their. hayley: they need more help from mother nature. most of us have an inch or so. it is not enough to do skiing in the southern areas. up north, it has been great. you will like the forecast. it will be cold to make snow. adam: the celtics played a saturday matinee at the garden. jason king will have highlights.

the clouds won the battle by the end of the day and most of us were overcast. still looking nice with the christmas lights. in derry, things moving smoothly. some areas, you might have had melting on the roadways. there could be some re-freezing in a few areas now that temperatures are starting to go back down below freezing. today, temperatures were above freezing. most of us got into the mid and upper 30' s. that was above the average which is 32 for this time in january. we reached 37 in concord. nashua in the low to mid 30' s. even at the seacoast, temperatures were in the mid to upper 30' s. relatively comfortable with a winter jacket with light winds and the sunshine. it was nice to be outdoors today. here we are now. 35 in manchester. 34 in nashua.

30 even up north in whitefield and berlin. we have a bitterly cold arctic blast of air on the way. this will be a real shock to the system for a lot of us because it has not been that cold. december was mild. we started january, even today and tomorrow, temperatures above the average. look at how the temperatures fall monday and tuesday. this is going to be cold. on top of temperatures in the 20' s, the winds are going to be howling on monday. it is going to feel like the single digits and teens during the day on monday and tuesday. get ready for that as we are heading back to work and school monday and tuesday. the good thing is it is a two-day thing and temperatures moderate by midweek. it has been a while since it has been that cold. every 24 was the last time we had temperatures at 22 degrees or below.

it has been 312 days since we they will be monday. across the area. we got to see some sunshine. now the clouds filling in. even some light on the radar, higher elevation snow showers have been ongoing today and will continue overnight. is going to slide down out of quebec and ontario. that is going to signal big changes and allow the cold air to see down out of canada and drop our temperatures by the early part of the week. scattered mountain snow showers overnight. the rest of us, passing clouds. starting out at 8:00 tomorrow morning, bright and sunny across much of the state. in the afternoon, clouds filling in again and passing snow showers. there may be some that reach southern new hampshire as the cold front moves through. monday, despite sunshine, temperatures are going to be

wind. it will be feeling even colder because of the wind. wind chills in the single digits across much of the state. overnight tonight, low temperatures in the 20' s with partly cloudy skies. higher elevation snow showers possible. tomorrow a great day for skiing. partly sunny and temperatures in the 20' s. we will warm up to around freezing for your lunch break. for the rest of the forecast, you can see the sunshine. it is bright and quiet into next week. the big story is the cold air. 22 for the high monday. it does say zero for the overnight temperature monday night into tuesday. that is for concord. think about how cold it will be up north. is lee single digits and maybe double digits below zero monday night to tuesday. jean: thanks. adam: we got some snowflakes.

they trailed toronto by two games in the division. still a long way to go. boston surprising folks this season, hosting today. that put the nets up by nine. isaiah thomas, another big day for him. that made it a six-point gain. he had a team-high 24 points. third quarter, jae crowder knocks down a three from the wing and tied it at 58. he finished with 16. play. that put brooklin up by 10. he had a game-high 30 points. boston rallied in the fourth. we are tied at 83. the celtics had a chance in the final seconds. they could not get the three to fall at the other end. brooklin wins 100-97. the celtics will play at brooklin on monday. they have lost two straight now. the unh hockey team will try to

as 2015 ended, the wildcats are undefeated in their last 6 games. including a 7-0 win over maine wednesday night. they play a non-league game against vermont at gutterson fieldhouse tonight. >> this is a great venue. it has always been a special place to play. it is a great city. they get a great turnout. i don' t know how it will be saturday when the student start. typically, it is a full house. it is a great atmosphere. jason: this was the scene at gillette stadium on friday, when nearly 70,000 fans turned out to watch the bruins play the canadiens in the annual winter classic. unfortunately, the canadiens cruised to a 5-1 win. matt belesky scored a goal for boston in the third period, avoiding the first ever shutout in winter classic history. tuukka rask made 25 saves, but the defense was just not good enough in front of him.

it was bad. >> he made some big saves spirit he was our best player. he made some big saves. he was our best player. we did not play the way we should have in front of him. jason: you probably saw the helmet that bruins goalie tuukka rask wore in yesterday' s game paying tribute to the patriots with a special paint job. but how about montreal goalie mike condon, he, too, wore a specialy designed helmet for the occasion. condon grew up in holliston and is a llifelong patriots fan, his helmet featured bill belichick, tom brady, and the 4 super bowl trophies they' ve won together. condon made 27 saves, winning a game at gillette stadium, something he probably never thought he' ld get the chance to do. the monarchs are home with the greenville swamp rabbits this weekend. a good chance for the visitors in the first. he makes the save for the home team. could not stop this one. good movement.

jason: the patriots get another shot at clinching home field in the afc playoffs, they need to beat the dolphins on sunday, or hope the broncos lose, but a win will do the trick. the two teams play in miami at 1:00. >> it is great for us to be the number one seed. offseason work by a lot of players and coaches, the whole organization, to get to this point. there is only one team that gets the number one seed. it is great if you are that team because it means you have done things better than anybody else
