>> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 at night. jean: an investigation is underway into the cause of a suspicious house fire in alexandria. it' s the same home where an 11 month old boy suffered fatal injuries in november. good evening. thanks for joining us. i' m jean mackin. the state fire marshal' s office was at the scene today. wmur' s mike cronin joins us live with why the fire chief is calling this fire suspicious. mike: no one was home at the time of the fire and the alexandria fire chief believes the house has been empty for about a month. saturday morning investigators returned to the house on fowler river road in alexandria that was destroyed in a fire friday night. >> i didn' t see too many flames but there was a lot of smoke and i was concerned. >> we refused to put anybody into the building so it was all an exterior attack for us. reporter: the fire chief believes it' s suspicious. in november 11 month old shawn sylvester was critically hurt at this home. he later died.

blunt impact head trauma. his death was ruled a homicide but no arrests have been made. 29-year-old tommy page who was living in the home at the time of the incident is in custody , accused of possessing child sexual abuse images. for now, the state fire marshal' s office isn' t calling the fire suspicious. >> we treat any fire that we get called to the same. we' ll do a very thorough investigation regardless of any circumstances. mike the cause is under : investigation. >> we' our efforts on the first floor we' re looking at the first floor of the residence right now. mike news 9 spoke to sylvester' s : grandfather. he says the fire makes the situation more difficult to deal with while they wait for justice it' s a message echoed by one woman who lives across the street from the home. >> i just wish we had more information as a community. it would help me to feel like things are, it seems like things are under control but it just i' m a curious person. mike: investigators say it' s

anyone with information on the fire is asked to call the state fire marshal' s office or alexandria police. live in the studio, mark cronin, wmur news 9. jean: firefighters put out a house fire in wolfeboro this evening. the fire started just after 6:00 p.m. on center street. crews say the fire started in the basement and a woman made it safely out of the house before they arrived. the fire department says it appears the fire was sparked by a propane-fired water heater. most of the damage was confined to the basement. a boy was hospitalized today after falling off a chair lift at ragged mountain. just before the mountain says a 3:30 p.m., father and his two sons were riding the lift together. they were about halfway up the mountain when one of the boys fell off. initially a medical helicopter was dispatched, but it was called off before it got there. the boy was taken to the hospital by ambulance for further observation. the circumstances surrounding

nature of his injuries are not yet released. rochester police are warning of an officer impersonator. the department says someone approached two juveniles walking on hanson street in a crown victoria with flashing lights. the man told the pair it was illegal to carry a baseball bat and took it from them. he was last seen driving north on wakefield street. the suspect is described as wearing a uniform with one arm patch and a badge. anyone with information should contact police. two people were taken to the hospital after a crash in goffstown. officers say to pick up trucks collided when one crossed the centerline, striking the second truck. both drivers were injured. right now, it is unclear what caused the crash. well a few snow flurries are , moving across the state right now. you' re taking a live look in colebrook where it'

30 degrees and you can see the snow is falling. hailey tells us how cold it will get tonight. hailey: the cold air is coming down from canada. we are getting snow showers and flurries in the higher elevations and to the north because of the cold air meeting up with the higher terrain. you can also see heavier snow showers back to southern quebec and southern portions of ottawa. that' s an arctic cold front that will come through tomorrow. then the bottom falls out and temperatures on monday will for highs. now. not that cold or frigid oven night. most of us are in the 20' s. we will go into the 30' s tomorrow -- not that cold or frigid overnight.

today. he' ll be heading to the granite state tomorrow with events planned in londonderry, plaistow and newmarket. fellow democrat, former secretary of state hillary clinton will also in the new hampshire tomorrow. she has town halls in derry, concord and keene. republican presidential candidate, new jersey governor chris christie will open his salem office and attend a town hall in merrimack tomorrow. and fellow republican marco rubio will hold events in milford, atkinson, raymond and hampton. a new state program can help you quit smoking. the new hampshire department of health and human services is offering free nicotine replacement therapy to residents who want to quit smoking or chewing tobacco. it' s part of a statewide campaign called tips from former smokers. residents must be at least 18 and willing to participate in free telephone counseling. you can register online or by calling the new hampshire tobacco helpline at the bottom of your screen. gas prices here in new hampshire

jean: a connecticut man is in jail accused of having weapons in his car just outside of gillette stadium including a stun gun and a machete . just hours before yesterday' s winter classic in foxborough, police received a report of a suspicious man. they say 48-year-old matthew bromson was intoxicated and threatened three people in an off site employee parking lot. bromson is facing several charges including disorderly conduct and assault with a dangerous weapon. the execution of 47 prisoners in saudi arabia sparked protests in iran today. protesters stormed the saudi embassy in tehran upset over the

cleric. he was one of the leaders of saudi arabia' s shiite muslim minority. he was arrested and convicted for his role in protests that turned violent. he maintained that he never israeli police are still searching for the gunman who till -- who killed two people at a tel aviv bar on new year' s day. police are investigating possible motives in the shooting that also wounded several other people. the attack comes amid months of palestinian and israeli attacks. a memorial has been set up outside the bar to remember the victims. a house exploded in oklahoma early this morning and the explosion damaged at least 50 other homes and sent 3 people to the hospital. a natural gas crew was working on the home when a fire started near a gas meter and caused the explosion. a man inside the home was thrown

burns. >> this could have been a much worse situation with an explosion of this magnitude with only 3 people being transported with only minor injuries is actually a good thing. jean: people who live in the area say they could hear the explosion miles away. as you can see the home is a total loss. today, president obama signed a federal emergency disaster declaration for the state of missouri. this action will allow homeland security and fema to coordinate disaster relief efforts. missouri governor jay nixon made the request after touring areas devastated by floodwaters earlier today. abc' s richard cantu shows us the extent of the flooding. richard: from the sky, the breadth and the depth of this disaster are painfully clear. the mississippi river crested at a new high, sending its water directions. from missouri down to louisiana, rivers are rising, floodwaters

dismantling it to driftwood. jean: the red cross has opened emergency centers across missouri to assist people affected by flooding. the red cross is bringing supplies like bleach, towels and mops to help clean up when floodwaters recede. and volunteers from across the country are helping with recovery efforts. and dunkin donuts is once again teaming up with the american red cross of northern new england for the month of january. today a blood drive was held at the presentation of mary academy in hudson, collecting nearly 150 pints of plasma. the red cross hopes to raise awareness about the importance of giving blood around the holidays, because this is the slowest time of year for donations. >> and now, meteorologist haley mccourt and your storm watch nine forecast. >> good evening, everyone. we had some sunshine today and then the clouds filled in. you can see thicker cloud cover

in derry, a quiet evening, with temperatures hovering in the 30' s at the moment. 34 in manchester, 33 in nashua, 34 in concord, 32 in laconia. it can be much colder than this in january during the overnight hours, especially with snow on the ground in southern areas. 30 in jaffrey, 34 in keene, 33 in lebanon. here is the situation. we have much colder air on the way. it is going to be coming from north of the great lakes in the northern portions of canada. this is going to be a shock to the system as we go through the next couple of days. we will have a big shift in our weather pattern. the jet stream, a river of air way above our heads that divides cold and warm air, has recently been to the north of us. as we push forward tomorrow, and arctic front is going to slide through.

the south and allow cold air to seep down from canada. we will experience some of the coldest air we have had all season long so far. the average high for january is 32 degrees. tomorrow, we will be a few degrees above that. then, the bottom falls out, and look at how cold it will be monday and tuesday. 20' s across southern and central new hampshire. think of areas to the north, where it is traditionally a bit colder. many of you will have high temperatures only in the low to mid teens. factor in that the winds are going to get going monday and tuesday, so it is going to feel like single digits almost all day long. the good news is, if you like the warm air we had been seeing, you will see it again quickly. we start to warm up midweek and late week as well.

at the moment, it is higher elevation snow showers, but you see thicker cloud cover moving through. north and west, some heftier snow showers. that' s the arctic cold front that' s going to swing through tomorrow. it will bring in colder air, and a threat of snow showers and snow squalls. some of those can quickly reduce visibility. the quick coating on the roadway can be difficult to see through. tomorrow. you can see we are mostly sunny, especially up north. in the afternoon and evening, there will be some snow showers that make it through, especially in the mountainous areas and dark. monday, we are back to full sunshine, but man, is it going the single digits.

chile, temperatures in the 20' s. then you see for tomorrow, we have temperatures in the 30' s after starting out in the 20' s in a few spots. we will warm up pretty quickly into the 30' s with mostly cloudy skies and a few scattered snow showers. then the cold moves on in monday and tuesday with highs in the 20' s. and look at that, lows in the single digits if not below zero. next weekend. a quiet week. until then, it will be very quiet this week.
