like we do. shelley: manchester police that would be robbery victim. back against a man a foot taller than her and 100 pounds heavier. she says when he tried to grab m shelley walcott. tom: i' m tom griffith. the 65-year-old woman noticed something was up on her way home from work last night. she spoke to our suzanne roantree who is live in the newsroom. suzanne: just after 11:30 monday night, manchester police say a 65-year-old woman left work, and stopped at the mobil on the run gas station on south wilow street. the woman who doesn' t want to be identified says a car pulled up quickly behind at a stop light.

suzanne: she says the car followed her into her apartment complex on south porter street. and stopped close by to where she had parked. >> someting in my head said to take the gun out of my purse. suzanne with her hand on the gun : now in her coat pocket, she headed toward her apartment. looking behind her, she saw a man following her. >> 10 feet from the front stairs, that' s when he caught up to me and he came around me and stood right in front of me, right in my face. suzanne he then yelled at her. : >> but then when i saw him reach his left arm out to try and grab me, that' s when i pulled the gun out and i shot him. suzanne: the gunshot hit 23-year-old michael bontaites in the chest. >> as soon as i shot him, he immediately fellto the ground. suzanne: a woman who was in the dark sedan picked up bontaites off the ground and put him in the car, all the while yelling at the 65-year-old grandmother. >> gotta get him to the hospital, gotta get him to the hospital. suzanne: she then ran into the building and called 911. as officers were responding to the woman' s 911 call, another manchester police officer identified bontaites as he entered the emergency room at elliot hospital, where he was
