in to help. >> no one covers new hampshire like we do. now wmur "news 9 daybreak." erin: good morning, new hampshire. thanks for joining us on this monday. we hope you had a great weekend. i'm erin fehlau. sean: i'm sean mcdonald. the ups and downs of new england weather. today it is back to cold and windy. kevin: some spots with over two inches of rain. it will's back. it will continue to hold throughout the 20's and 30's throughout the day. partly cloudy sky. no precipitation falling. you notice there could be a couple of light snow showers falling with lake effects snow. we will be watching a system through the central plains this morning to possibility effect us tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. temperatures will continue to fall back through the day. winds gusting still at this hour over 30 to 35 miles an hour through the day.

forecast. let's look at morning drive. we're joined live by deb davidson. good morning, deb. deb: good morning. right now the roads are a good commute. there are a couple of trouble spots we need to watch out for. that's north of the concord area. the d.o.t. is reporting some wet roads that have been freezing. the crews are out taking care of the roads. it will be on 93 north, north of the tilton area. also on interstate 89 around the hanover and lebanon areas. the d.o.t. boards are flashing to alert of you icy spots. 2 pet is moving well no problems and the everett turnpike down through the lane drop. heading in to bouts, 93, route 3, and 495 are all a good ride. the report is brought to you by duncan donuts.

95.7 wzid. erin: thank you, deb. hillary clinton has picked up a key endorsement. that's a first for presidential primary politics. sean: the political arm of planned parenthood offered their support during an event in hooksett. live in manchester to break down the endorsement. ray: good morning. planned parenthood making the announcement at the event in southern new hampshire university. this is a political first. this is the first time they have publicly backed a candidate. hillary clinton says she's always fought to protect women's reproductive rights. planned parenthood has become a lightning rod issue. they say it is endorsing early in order to remind voters about what it calls extreme positions from republicans on health.

to ban safe and legal abortion, they have pledged to appeal the acts and sworn to block access for millions of patients in the country. >> planned parenthood should be supported and appreciated not undermined, misrepresented, and demonized. ray: planned parenthood expected to spend $20 million in the presidential campaign. it say that none of the money will be used to criticize the main rival in the primary, bernie sanders. live in manchester, ray brewer, wmur news 9. erin: thank you. all five paid members of the pro-ben carson super pac in new hampshire have quit in order to volunteer for the cruz campaign. the staff said they recently decided that

most likely to win. they also say they were frustrated by the limited time that carson has spent in the granite state. this comes less than two weeks after two top new hampshire staffers left the carson campaign. the new mayor in nashua should look pretty familiar. jim donchess was sworn in yesterday. he also served as mayor from 1984 to 1992. twice during his tenure nashua was named best place to live in america by "money" magazine. he will focus on fighting the heroin epidemic and taking care of the municipal basics. >> we still plow the streets and have to keep the schools going. there are some things. certainly technology has changed. the economic -- the challenge of economic growth and jobs is different. erin: mayor donchess says she will hold a series of town halls around the gate city to hear

sean: the process of extraditing joaquin "el chapo" guzman could take months. he was just recaptured after his escape from the maximum security prison. reporter: the next stop may soon be the united states. the mexican attorney office confirms the extradition has begin. here it is. what officials say led to the recapturing of mexico's most wanted drug lord. "rolling stone" releasing proof of a secret meeting held three months ago between joaquin known as el chapo and sean penn. after running from mexican authorities, el chapo was rearrested on friday and whisked away his face held for the

through the ice in a pond in broxton, massachusetts. police say that a 9-year-old also fell in to the icy water on saturday night. they were playing with friends. two other kids ran to get help and flag down passing drivers. >> it stays in my head. i can't forget it. it was scary. >> i ran over and hopped over to the fence. i ran to the baiter and started breaking the ice. i didn't know there was another kid in there. erin: the man said he was able to pull him from the water. he doesn't know how to swim. counselors and support staff will be available to speak for those who sean: firefighters estimate about 500 gallons of oil spilled after a valve on a pump in the boiler room got stuck.

the person that killed an american woman in florence. she was found dead in her apartment on saturday. police say her neck was bruised and scratched. they are waiting for autopsy results to confirm how she died. her landlord and boyfriend found her body after not hearing from her for days. sean: the watchdog says the government is not doing enough to make sure the airline pilots maintain their flying skills. many don't get complete training on how to monitor the control systems and cockpits. the rusk rusty manual flying skills could be exposed if there's ever a problem. the woman accused of stealing millions of dollars in jewelry across five states is due in court. 24-year-old abigail lee kemp made almost no attempt to hide her face during the crimes. the clear surveillance pictures were key in tracking her down.

distribute. they found cocaine, marijuana, and cash. sterling is scheduled to be arraigned later this morning. sean: a man accused of killing a little girl in massachusetts is due in court today. michael mccarthy is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge. he killed his girlfriend's daughter, 2-year-old bella bond. her body was found on deer island. rachelle bond is accused of being an accessory. mccarthy's lawyers said he knew nothing saying her mother said her daughter was taken away from the state. erin: several shootings have prompted schools to get prepared in the event of an emergency. the university of new hampshire spent this week training. officers used the memorial union building on campus while students are on break. the training is funded by the department of homeland security. it is constantly evolving.

single shooting that happens anywhere in the united states or across the country. we look at our plans and how we would respond to those things. this is part of the planning process in the training. erin: the u.n.h. police chief also offers a class for students and faculty. each time a shooting takes place, attendance increases. sean: they will be putting collars on dozens of moose cows and call ofs. it is part of the study on moose mortality to better understand why moose populations are declining. fish and game say people in areas like berlin may notice low flying helicopters over the next few weeks during the moose collaring. erin: fans got treated to a free concert in new hampshire. the recycled percussion performed at the home depot on south willow street.

also be attending the address. senator kelly ayotte has invited dr. seddon savage to attend the speech. she's the director of the dartmouth center on addiction recovery and education. the final speech is scheduled to begin at 9:00 tomorrow night. watch it right here on wmur. sean: firefighters rescued three people after they got trapped inside a burning motel. the fire broke out early yesterday morning at the country motor lodge which is located on the house. all 16 guest rooms were destroyed. vehicles were also damaged. several guests, including members of a wedding party, had to be helped out of the building. some of them say they never heard an alarm. >> it was horrible. i'll never want to stay in a hotel again. ever. the fact that the smoke

sean: other guests says they did hear smoke alarms. the fire chief says it may have been started by a cigarette in a trash bin. erin: a recent study shows the size of your server may impact how many food you eat an a restaurant. the study by cornell university claims that diners are much more likely to order food and beverages if their server is overweight. diners served by someone with a high body math index were four times more likely to order dessert and alcoholic beverages. sean: a unique restaurant is open for business in italy. this is the country's first restaurant to be opened inside a jail. yes, instead of typical servers, inmates present gourmet food to members of the public. the goal is to teach the prisoners skills to help them land a job once they are released. only two of the staff members are not inmates. the restaurant is named

is the experience. kevin: patriots game home game saturday. erin: how is the weather looking? kevin: it maybe less than ideal. maybe the patriots want it that way. maybe. they will have to see. sean: kansas city -- we have six days. kevin: start off with some sunshine. it will be brisk through the afternoon with a couple of snow flakes to be had in the north country and for some western areas of the state. with that lake effect snow machine through the day, some of that trying to survive the trip over the green mountains with a strong west wind trying to carry that over. could be some successful in a few spots and maybe a quick inch of snow through the upper valley. beyond that, looks like the next system which would be more widespread would be tomorrow afternoon. could be a quick one to three inches of accumulation. not a major storm. it could have an impact for the evening commute. beyond that, remaining chilly with colder air arrives starting tuesday in to wednesday.

through the end of the week. partly cloudy skies this morning. there's the snow up north. you can see the lake effect snow back out west. with winds out of the west today, we'll continue to see the streamer coming off of the great lakes this morning trying to head in to western areas of the state in to the afternoon. next system located out in the western plains. we'll try to arrive tomorrow afternoon with a little bit of light snow. temperatures in the lower half of the 30's. temperatures have continued to come down some. just assume any water out there on area roadways could make things slick at least initially. we get beyond that and the breeze out there through the day should continue to dry things off quite a bit in to the afternoon. as temperatures hold relatively steady from the upper half of the 20's up north to the lower half of the 30's in southern areas. wind speeds this morning at 10-20 miles an hour. gusts over 25 to 30 miles an hour. those temperatures holding steady in the upper 20's and lower 30's. we're going to feel much colder than this in to the afternoon.
