after his cruiser was struck by a tractor trailer on i-89. the trooper was sitting in that cruiser last night after helping another driver who had crashed. jennifer: amy coveno takes us inside the state police garage for a closer look at this cruiser that was flunk the length of a football field. reporter: we're inside the troop d garage in concord. investigators say the trooper was buckled in right here when his cruiser was struck from behind by a parsing tractor trailer, launching the cruiser some 300 feet. >> it appears as though the box of the trailer or the rear bumper had had come up across the cruiser and actually gone right across from the rear of it across the rear door and the driver's door, at head height. reporter: this is i-89 in warner, where a trooper was pulled over helping a driver who had slid off the road during last night's snowstorm. police say flares were out, the blue lights were on.

it really is. we have troopers that have been struck multiple times. in the course of their career, in a single year. reporter: this terrifying close call hits really close to home for sergeant taylor. it happened to him a year ago this month. >> i was working that same stretch, a motor vehicle crash about a mile south when i was struck inside the cruiser. reporter: in 2015, 21 police cruisers were struck on new hampshire highways, as they were stopped to aid other drivers. in this case authorities say the hit-and-run driver was in a dark colored cab with a sleeper compartment, hauling a white trailer. the truck had canada license tags according to witnesses. the driver stopped briefly, even spoke with a witness. he's described as a smort middle aged man with dark hair who had a foreign accent. >> the trooper immediately radioed that he was in fact struck, that he didn't believe he was initially injured at that point.

the shattered driver's side window to see if any by standers have been injured. he's been on the job less than a year. >> we want the same goal as everybody else, we want to be able to get home safe every night. we want the traveling public to get home safe. that's the goal. reporter: miraculously, the be just fine. his colleagues tell us that he was insisting that he come in tonight to work his night shift. in concord, amy coveno oh, wmur news 9. jennifer an accident is under investigation in effingham involving a fire engine that flipped vup side down. the fire chief was alone in the vehicle when he lost control on 153. the truck hit a utility pole and rolled onto its roof, with the utility pole on top of it. the chief suffered just minor injuries. the road was closed as wreckers worked to flip the truck back over. tom: police say slippery road conditions led to a deadly crash in hampstead, laurie dawes' car

she got out to call for help, when an s.u.v. driven by a 17-year-old came down the road, lost control, and hit dow. no charges have been filed. jennifer: the body of john connell was found inside of the church in grafton, he died of smoke inhalation. connell had been living there and in recent years had turned the building over to the peaceful assembly board of directors in homes of making it a legitimate church. the pastor who preached in the church right up until connell bought it said the fire is devastating. >> i was thinking about it this morning, probably a thousand sermons were preached there over the 22 years. so, yeah, very sad to watch that yesterday. we didn't stay too long, obviously nothing we could do and it was just too sad to hang around and continue to watch it burn. jennifer: so far fire investigators haven't yet

tom: to salem where a man suffered burns to his lungs and carbon monoxide poisoning after police say he was pulled from a burning car after an overdose. police and fire officials were called to a house on crescent street had this morning and found a 2014, bmw on fire. police say the driver had taken heroin and was on his way to work when he passed out behind the wheel. >> once in the vehicle he apparently suffered from the heroin overdose, at which point he passed out. it appears as if his foot got stuck on the accelerator pedal, which caused the engine to overheat, eventually causing it to ignite on fire. tom: police say the man was hospitalized in stable condition. they say their investigation is ongoing. jennifer: liberty utilities is getting awe bill from the city of keene after a gas incident that took an entire day to get under control. city officials say it cost close to $50,000 to cover the response.

tom: for this week's weather wednesday, we are headed over to the seacoast. jennifer: better yet, we hear that josh judge has been lacing up the skates. so he's joining us live from puddledock pond on the grounds of strawbery banke, and you're upright, we're off to a good start. josh: i am, this is my first time on skates in over 20 years, so this has been kind of fun reacquainting myself with the skill of it here. but i think i've got it. i'm joined live by one of the board of trustees members of strawbery banke, thanks for having us. this is a great skating rink. >> i thought i'd be holding you up, and you're doing really well. josh: i haven't fallen yet, but there's still plenty of time to create a youtube moment that will go viral. first, tell me about this rink, this is your second year? >> it our second year. we had no idea what our success rate would be and last year we had 22,000 skaters come through our gate.

continues to roll on this and we get some good footage later on. hey, no ice out there, take a look at the gusty winds, we've got white caps out there today, indicating that yet on january 13th no ice up there in newfound lake. this is something else and on the big lake up at the weirs it's the same story. as we go further towards the weekend it may get cold enough and the win might go live enough so we could start to see ice forming on the big lakes, central and western parts of the state. right now temperatures are lining up on the cold side forks doubt about that. and the gusty winds adding an extra bite to the air, they're beginning to diminish a little, but sustained at three to 20 miles per hour. notice close to hurricane force atop mount washington, you factor in the temperature and the wind, and it feels like near zero in whitefield. on average around 9, 10 or 11 from the lakes region points south and southeast.

jamie: as the patriot prepare to play the chiefs in the playoffs, one of their star flares is making news off the field. chandler jones taken to the hospital on sunday after showing up at the foxborough police department and requesting help, according to the police log. he was taken to norwood hospital with an unspecified medical emergency and was released the same day. patriot say he has not missed a practice or meeting since then.
