sloppy snow and mix now off the coast. but before the holiday weekend is over, we' re talking more snow. when it arrives and how much to expect, ahead. stephanie: snowy and wet pavement is causing drivers to slide off the road. state police responding to 100 accidents today. how the conditions are now improving. adam: and officers arrive at the scene of a car accident, but the driver is nowhere to be found. how a man spent the night in the woods after being injured in a crash. >> we' re number one. stephanie: fans are cheering on the patriots as they take on the chiefs in the nfl playoffs. we have live team coverage from

announcer: no one covers new hampshire like we do. now, wmur news 9 at 6:00. stephanie: a storm system dumped a few inches of snow in the north country this morning. now, the snow has moved out leaving great conditions for skiing this weekend. good evening, i' m stephanie woods. adam: and i' m adam sexton. meteorologist hayley lapoint tells us what areas got the most snow. hayley: it was closer to the seacoast than we expected. into barrington and farmington is where we saw heavier snow amounts. sutton, about three inches. jefferson, two inches. only about 1.5 in new boston and one inch in laconia. it was a fresh one get snow into the ski areas which they are very happy about for the holiday weekend. snow showers remain in the higher elevations. this big system long gone.

tomorrow will not be perfect. we will have sunshine for the morning before clouds roll in. temperatures a bit colder. we will have another round of snow showers this weekend into martin luther king day. i will show you the timing and how much to expect, ahead. stephanie: now that the snow is gone, driving conditions have improved. you' re taking a live look at 293 in manchester and 93 in hooksett where things are moving smoothly. wmur' s kria sakakenny is live in manchester with an update on the roads. reporter: usually during the evening, there is concern that if there is snow on the road it will freeze over. we are seeing the roads are pretty clear. it was a different story earlier today. it may have been a slow start to winter, but saturday morning' s icy slushy mess made it all feel more real. >> it' s a reminder that winter is here. reporter monique austen was : driving up from boston to go

considerably when the storm hit. >> it' s not very pleasant at all. it' s very slippery like driving on an ice rink. reporter in fact, state police : reduced highway speeds to 45 miles an hour. and still, officers spent the morning responding to calls, at least 50 cars off the road and 45 accidents across the state. they were hard for drivers to miss. >> two accidents -- three accidents, couple trucks and couple cars spinning out. >> the roads are getting worse and worse. we already saw a couple cars already on the side of the road . it is not that good and getting worse. reporter: in portsmouth enough , snow piled up for the city to declare a snow emergency, a no parking ban started at 2 in the . safe. reporter: there were still some

>> because we can make snowmans. reporter: indeed. it is good to have fun in the snow. drivers to take it slowly. they say when there is less snowfall, drivers can get overconfident and that makes it especially dangerous. adam: thank you. state police are investigating a route 89. the 49-year-old was traveling south when he beard off the highway and struck a guard rail. he was found unconscious in the woods 10 hours later but is expected to be ok. kristen carosa spoke with state police. she has the details. kristen: state police responded to the crash around 7:00 friday night. they found a damaged buick but no driver. police say at first they did not know if james and any other potential passengers left the

ejected from the vehicle. after a thorough investigation of the area, the scene was cleared. state police checked with hospitals and the family but he could not be found. later that night, police returned to the scene with the help of other officers, including an officer from lebanon and his canine. they were able to locate him at 4:30 a.m. about a half-mile into the woods. the canine discovered him under a tree. he was injured and suffering hypothermia. he was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok. investigators say speed appears to be a factor, and he could face additional charges. >> it was so long afterwards that we have no evidence he was impaired at the time. we would have to have evidence earlier than the 10 hours later. there would have been charges for possession of drugs with evidence.

runner donald trump is in the granite state today. adam: he spoke at an event hosted by scott brown in portsmouth. hundreds braved the conditions to hear the candidates speak. after the debate, trump continued to attack his chief opponent at the moment, senator ted cruz. donald trump: a lot of people do as it turned out, he finally went off the wagon and went a little crazy. adam: senator brown says he will be endorsing in this race that that will not be until after next weekend' s presidential town hall event. adam: jeb bush, rand paul, carly fiorina, and john kasich are in the granite state today.

the patriots and chiefs are announcer: now hayley lapoint and your forecast. hayley: this morning, we had rain, sleet, and snow. you can see a fresh blanket in dublin with icy spots in the parking lot. there is a live look at the traffic circle in derry. as we have fallen below freezing in a lot of spots, melting during the day could be re-freezing on the roadways, especially untreated areas.

look at some of the snow totals across the state. arrington with the most i have seen, four inches. 2.8 in greenland. 2.3 inches and .9 in concord. that was the case into southern portions of the state. manchester international a barely got a dusting. we have a season total of 9.4 inches. on average for this time in january, we would have 25.8 inches of snowfall. we are well below that. last year at this time before the big blitz of snowstorms at the end of january and early february, we had 22 inches so we are running well below not only the average but what we have had in years past at this time. lots of clouds overhead now.

i would not be surprised if higher elevation snow showers get going overnight as colder air is getting pulled down behind this system. we have lots of cloud cover toward the west. we are not out of the woods in terms of cloud cover. tomorrow, we are dodging a system to the south. this will move through the carolinas and then out to sea. the clouds associated with it will be moving across the area. sunshine. that fades as clouds moved in. 33 now in concord. 30 in nashua. most of us flirting with the freezing point or below. spots were there has been melting are now freezing. overnight, scattered snow showers in the mountains with maybe an additional inch or so. that will fade overnight. 8:00 sunday morning, mostly sunny across the state.

here come the thick clouds. by the afternoon, it wins the battle and we will lose the sunshine. overnight sunday into monday, things get interesting. we haven' t arctic -- we haven' t arctic cold front and alberta clipper coming across the state. right around the morning commute , there will be snow showers and snow squalls. within some of the snow squalls you can get low visibility. be careful of that early monday morning. the rest of the day on monday it looks good. we will clear out and see more sunshine. here is the forecast tonight. mountain snow showers and partly cloudy conditions. tomorrow, 30' s across the state. for skiing, a great day tomorrow with sunshine. monday, more snow showers. colder early next week and watching the potential for more

announcer: now, jamie staton and news 9 sports. jamie: the patriots and chiefs are playing for a trip to the afc championship game right now. the third quarter just kick off. the teams started the game at jason king joins us live from 4:35. gillette stadium with a game update. jason: the patriots trying to advance for the fifth consecutive year while the chiefs trying to get there for the first time in a long time. let' s look at the scoreboard. the third quarter just started. patriots leading 14-6. they received the game to begin the game which is unusual. patriots drove down the field, scored to go up 7-0. the chiefs returned the favor and drove down the field on their opening drive. they kicked a field goal. the patriots scored on a 98-yard drive in the second quarter with a big run by tom brady to put

the chiefs responded and kicked a field goal with 12 seconds to go in the half. 14-6 is your score. they are playing in the third quarter. this should be a big second half. the patriots doing a great job so far against the good chiefs defensive front seven. jamie: the scoreboard said 14-6. i don' t know who is building our graphics but that person needs to be reprimanded. 32 offense a place in the first half, 28 were tom brady passes or runs. one-dimensional bookmarking. jason: it certainly is. the chiefs have done a nice job of mixing it up. they have been able to run the ball on the patriots. alex smith started the game 5-5 but then 5-16 at the tail end. i think the chiefs need to mix it up. the patriots have proven they

we will see what happens in the second half. jamie: the patriots have the halftime lead. we will see you tonight at 11:00. the nfc championship game plays out tonight as well at 8:15. the green bay packers are at the arizona cardinals. aaron rogers against carson palmer, two of the best quarterbacks in the nfl this season. that will be fun to watch. friday night was really good for the bruins and the celtics. they both picked up nice wins, and they will both try to do it again tonight. the bruins host the toronto maple leafs at 7:00. the celts are at the washington wizards at 7:30. the manchester monarchs skate on on their home ice tonight with a 7:00 game with the norfolk admirals. the monarchs have the third best record in the echl, and they look to keep it going tonight. >> they are a hard-working team. we have had success against them. they had injuries the last time we played them. they are a new team now.
