ravine, sweeping skiers and climbers down the mountain. corey swartz got caught up in the avalanche. an avalanche education class was underway at the same time and very close by. >> i had a lot of conscious thought of "it could stop now." it was completely useless. >> it is a pretty intense experience. we were just below the chokepoint on the chute, right where the avalanche was becoming quite violent. snow.

everyone should have a beacon, probe, and shovel on the mountain in the winter. you can get the latest information at the mount washington avalanche center. sean: a pair of snowmobile crashes -- a man in webster lost control when he was out testing his machine. there was very little snow and he suffered a serious leg injury. a man went through the ice on a pond in sandown while trying to write a snowmobile across. he was able to pull himself out of the water. alcohol does appear to be a contributing factor. the ice is not safe in many parts of the state right now. erin: the redevelopment plans for the balsams resort are moving forward again.

erin: police in canada are trying to track down the man seen in these surveillance videos trying to steal $1500 worth of chewing gum from this store. he filled garbage bags with a gun before walking out the door -- the gum before walking out the door and leaving in a taxi. sean: you need a gumshoe to figure out that one. we will keep our eye out for a couple inches of accumulation. hour. winds gusting over 20 miles per hour means the wind chills are below zero and double digits below zero up north. as temperatures ease their way up, you will have the wind picking up by another 5-10 miles per hour. the wind chills will remain the same through the afternoon. light snow up north. partial sunshine into the afternoon. you will notice a general increase in clouds. the wind will still be out there tonight. it does look like things start to improve. partial sunshine for thursday

sean: the basecoat is not melting. kevin: it is going nowhere anytime soon. erin: it is too cold. ray: a climber from plymouth who got caught up in an avalanche at tuckerman ravine is speaking out about the experience. corey swartz tumbled about 500 feet down the mountain. he tried to stop himself, but it was completely useless. a total of six skiers and climbers were swept down the mountain. fortunately, only two were injured. sean: state fish and game officials are warning snowmobile riders that trails are not safe right now and they don' t look like this file video. there is very little snow in some areas and ice on local ponds and lakes are not safe. the balsams resort redevelopment project is moving forward again. the coos county development

sean: a new exhibit just opened up in florida featuring artwork by dr. seuss. erin: the work includes landscapes, seascapes, sculptures. the pieces are known as his midnight paintings because he created them at night to help relieve the stress of creating books for children. i did not know it was so stressful. sean: you walk by something like this and you know it is dr. seuss.

ray: the snow was dangerously high above the crown line, or the spot where the snow last broke. he says a couple of canadians climbed above, triggering the avalanche. >> i looked up just enough to see them getting washed off their feet. i managed to yell out, "avalanche." it' i crashed into my climbing friend below me. -- it through me backward. i crashed into my climbing friend below me. ray: he traveled about 500 feet down tuckerman ravine. >> i had a lot of conscious thought about straightening out and writing myself. it was completely useless. ray: he finally stopped, slamming into his friend. he rushed to the aid of a skier from maine injured in the avalanche.

valley search-and-rescue, he stabilized the skier' s leg. >> knowledge is power. ray: there were students from an avalanche education class next to the chute and they used to their training to help the survivors. erin: books that police are trying to figure out who fired a bullet into a home. a family living on meadowcrest road found a bullet hole in their windows. the bullet was later found inside the house. no one was hurt. this appears to be a random act. to contact hooksett police. counselor is on leave after exposure and lewdness. 44-year-old thomas mauzy of sunapee is accused of exposing occasions. he is a guidance counselor at newport high school. children are involved in the

erin: a police chief in massachusetts is issuing a passionately after emergency crews responded to four overdoses in 24 hours. the gloucester police chief wrote a message on the department' s facebook page that said, "you are important and worth it. we are not ashamed of you. it is time. come and get the help." the post has been shared more than 6000 times. >> if people got caught up in this and they are at the point where they can' t make choices anymore, they have a disease and they need intervention. erin: back in may, gloucester launched an amnesty program, allowing drug users to turn over illegal drugs in exchange for treatment. and no criminal charges. 375 have accepted that help. one relapsed and died. sean: unfortunately, those numbers keep going up.
