on the campaign trail. cold, cold, and more cold. temperatures are frigid across the entire state and they're ocial going to get colder when the wind chill starts to kick in. there's the good news. good evening, thank you for joining us. i'm josh mcelveen. jean: i'm jean mackin. the wind is significant, both wildcat and cannon had to close their slopes today because of the gusts. other resorts did stay open, but skiers had to bundle up. josh: mike haddad says we have at least one more night of this bitter chill. mike: we do, and those winds have been active all day, in some cases gusting over 40 miles per hour. unless you're atop mount washington, 128 miles per hour during the dogs of this afternoon. topping 46 up to 47 miles per hour in portsmouth. 40 minor gusts in manchester and concord, and close to that in laconia. right now the temperatures are several degrees below the norm

only single digits north to low 20's far south. you factor the the busy winds, these are the sustained wind anywhere from 7 miles per hour in berlin to 24 in plymouth and along the coast. you factor the two together, the temperature and that steady wind, and it feels like zero or below in some cases. above. a lot of cold air back to our north and west, that means another cold one tonight, and quite a chill out there tomorrow. 'although by the afternoon it may ease up just a little bit. what about more chances by the end of the week and what about the snow chance for the weekend, we'll look at that straight ahead. josh: manchester police say they made a significant drug bust in the city that includes a significant amount of fentanyl. tens of thousands of dollars worth of the drugs were taken off the streets after an early morning raid. andy hershberger has been working the story all day and joins us live with the latest. reporter: police say this undercover investigation lasted several months, and is

opioid crisis the city and state are are facing today. manchester police say what is significant about this drug raid is the amount of fentanyl seized. 510-gram of it with a street val of $30,000 was discovered after a search warrant was executed this morning. >> based on my conversations with the drug investigators, they believe this to be a higher level operation, when in fact you have over 500-grams of fentanyl, it is one of the largest seeshers in the state. reporter: police say fentanyl is mixed with heroin and is often responsible for fate overdoses. the chief says this type of case can have a real human impact. >> i'm very pleased with this arrest, this is a significant arrest, particularly given the seized. each one of those doses of fentanyl is a potential fate overdose, and it's the fentanyl that is mostly killing our citizens today. reporter: just before six this morning members of the manchester swat team entered a
5:03 pm
along with the fentanyl, police say they also seized cocaine, heroin, crack cocaine, as well packaging materials. three people, arroyo, gonzalez-fabian and garcia mata were taken into custody. >> i'm very proud of the officers and detectives who worked on this case. they understand it's my priority as chief to get drug dealers off the street and try to save as many lives as we can by not letting fen that fill be put out there. reporter: it's unclear when the three suspects will be in court to face charges. jean: right now the f.b.i. is investigating a series of bomb threats called in to schools up and down the eastern seaboard. authorities say most of them involved robo calls. massachusetts had more than 20 schools affected, three new hampshire schools dealt with bomb threats today including portsmouth my school.

is joining us live with the very latest on this. reporter: most of those schools you mentioned out of state. those did involve robo calls, talking about schools in delaware, pennsylvania and new jersey, as well as those over 20 schools in massachusetts. that while three schools in new hampshire dealt with their own bomb threats. farmington high school was among them. students there were evacuated at 10:00, that one prompted by a message written on the wall of a boys bathroom. but both portsmouth high and sunapee middle and high schools were struck by automated messages, called robo calls. no students were at sunapee today. but at portsmouth students were in lockdown for about an hour while police responded. >> as the call came through, we were able to determine the credibility of the call sank for us a little, but we had to do our due diligence to make sure that everything was on the up and up, which is why we had the

through here. reporter: portsmouth students continued on with their day and after school activities went on as planned. officials do expect that they will connect with the f.b.i. to see if there are any possible connections to those incidents in massachusetts and beyond. for now, live in portsmouth, jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. jean: thanks. one of the men accused in a road rage incident in raymond will keep fighting criminal charges, the other has accepted a plea deal. prosecutors say in june matthew anderson hit david bell with a flash light, they say bell fought back with a tool, an ankle griebler, both men were charged with reckless conduct. today david bell pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, while anderson is fighting his charge. >> my understanding is mr. anderson has filed a notice of defense in this matter. but again i did offer them both misdemeanor pleas, eve 2010 the wreckless type driving.

seven years in jail. bell received a suspended sentence. josh: 2016 coverage, exactly three weeks now from the new hampshire primary and we have wranld new numbers from our latest granite state poll. tonight the democratic presidential candidates in what appeared to be a dog fight between hillary clinton and bernie sanders, might be turning into a land slide. this poll shows sanders has an enormous 27-point lead over hillary clinton, 60 to 33% support. among young people, his support gets bigger, under the age of 35, sanders has 81% support, to clinton's 17%. what about the gender gap, this was hillary clinton's strong point earlier or was supposed to be, that is now a 14-point tilt in favor of sanders when we're talking about women voters in new hampshire. here's another set of numbers that might surprise you, when it comes to favorability, hillary clinton does do very well with 65%, but that pales in comparison to bernie sanders who
5:07 pm
rating in new hampshire of 91%. that shocks even the pollsters. have you ever seen a candidate with this type of favorability number? >> i have never seen a candidate for any office have favorability ratings this high. it's staggering. josh: all that said, it is worth pointing out that this poll says that 52% of those asked have yet to make up their mind. support. coming up at 6:00 we'll dig deeper and find out who voters think is best equipped to deal with isis, deal with the economy, and perhaps the most tell figure, who they trust the most. today. john kasich is three quarters of to new hampshire. today his stops included a tour in henniker and concord, and another town hall in hopkinton at 5:30. ted cruz also continuing his swing through the dprlt.
5:08 pm
heather hamel joins us live with more. reporter: senator cruz is getting a taste of new hampshire during this visit, talking to venues. there's no shortage of people, barely enough room to breathe. but he seems to be right at home. >> without exaggeration, i talk about freedom 100 times every single day. reporter: what better place to visit than new hampshire's own freedom, shoulder to shoulder with voters cruz made his a warn the freedom village store. >> it is wonderful, this is the new hampshire way, can and it's what it's supposed to be all about. looking people in the eyes, answering their questions. reporter: and that he did. from freedom to wakefield, clearly comfortable in the small town setting. >> can i get you anything? anyone want some food? can i refill your coffee for you? [laughter] . reporter: after focusing much of his attention in iowa, cruz

on a five-day bus tour, beef be up his ground game three weeks before the primary. >> from the beginning the strength of our campaign has been the grass roots, has been conservatives uniting. and the most powerful thing in new hampshire, the way you win in new hampshire is friend to friend and maybe to neighbor, and we are seeing a grass roots army of conservatives come together. reporter: in recent days much attention has been focused on the texas senator after he and donald trump battled it out on the debate stage last week, and the weekend brought more criticism from the billionaire businessman. during tuesday's stops, cruz said trump is rattled by the polls but didn't hurl insults and says when it comes to his own chances in new hampshire? >> we're feeling very good, and the energy and enthusiasm we're seeing on the ground is incredible. reporter: cruz is continuing his tour through the granite state through thursday with stops including rye, hooksett and manchester. heather hamel, wmur news 9. josh: in iowa tonight, republican ben carson canceled his events after a car accident

you get 6 gigs of 4g data for only $40 per month -- $20 less than verizon. and u.s. cellular's network was built to work in places like out here, here, and here. so, with all of that, why would you ever go to verizon? switch to u.s. cellular now and get 6 gigs of data for just $40 a month plus get $300 back. let's not overthink this. there are two democratic visions for regulating wall street. one says it's okay to take millions from big banks and then tell them what to do. my plan -- break up the big banks, close the tax loopholes, and make them pay their fair share. then we can expand health care to all, and provide universal college education. will they like me? no. will they begin to play by the rules if i'm president? you better believe it. i'm bernie sanders

jean: the white house is know pointing an official to deal with the water crisis in flint, michigan. this announcement comes ahead of the governor's state of the state address tonight, his speech is expected to focus on how to fix the drinking weight problem. the crisis began in 2014 when the city switched its water source to the flint river. tests later showed elevated blood levels containing lead in children. residents are now using bolted water.

dubai scraper on new year's eve is the 8th time that city has seen one of its tours catch fire. part of the reason, the materials being used too build them, an aluminum composite has become a common option for the world's tallest buildings and it can be made fire resistant. but many developers are choosing not to do that. they are also declining to put bricks in the flammable siding which could slow down the fire. one enter says the result is like a wildfire running straight up the side of a building. and there may be a truce in the food fight involving first lady michelle obama and school nutrition directors. senators from both parties agreed to update the current healthier meal standards. their bill would ease requirements on whole grains and give schools more time to reduce sodium content. many schools have complained that the current standards are burden some. jean: a bizarre end to a police chase in long beach, california. a woman led officers on a pursuit with a car full of dogs. when she finally stopped and got several dogs.

traffic lanes to catch all the dogs safely. they're now in the custody of animal control. mike: boy, has the wind been active today, very gusty out there. temperatures running a little below the norm. you factor in the winds, feels like zero or below in some cases. right now at newfound lake from the time lapse photos of the day, you notice no ice out there yet. one of the reasons, the wind, very active, kicking up some white caps up there in mid to late january. that almost never happens that we don't have the ice up there yet. will it happen tonight? the winds will likely be active enough so that we will not see ice form. later tomorrow night a slight chance, but again still an odd thing up there when you factor in how cold it is, not to have ice on the lakes yet. notice it's fairly quiet on radar.
5:17 pm
of snow a possibility as we go into the night and el tomorrow morning. temperatures and the wind the big story statewide. 17 below atop mount washington, single digits, teens, low 20's elsewhere from north to south. in terms of winds, steady between 5 and 25 miles per hour. atop mount washington over hurricane force, and when you factor in the winds, this what is it feels like, three below in berlin, 61 below over 6,000 feet up. and single numbers above from concord points south. but just a little above that zero degree mark. in terms of the gusts, cranking up to 30 to 40 miles per hour, a little above that in rochester, as we advance through the day tomorrow, not as gusty as today, but still on the breezy side. some gusts over 30. then the winds are diminish a little towards evening, and hours. a weak system darts underneath us on thursday, so winds will
5:18 pm
go into the day on thursday, and that will only reenforce the chilly air that will continue to build in right through the end of this week. in terms of storm threats, nothing over the next few days, but you'll notice back to our west there is a system here in the mississippi valley. this is the one that will dart underneath new hampshire along about sometime later on wednesday night, early thursday morning. then we get to a lot of energy and a big storm just entering the pacific northwest. this one has the energy for the east coast weekend storm. there is no question that there will be a monster storm off the east coast, although computer models in the last 24 hours are trending south in time. and if those trends do hold, it would be a miss for new hampshire, not a guarantee, and still a lot of time to track it. right now the best bet for snow would be over southern new hampshire and southern new england. single digits and lower teens tonight. tomorrow lots of sunshine, but
5:19 pm
with that breeze out of the northwest, not as gusty as today. quiet for thursday and friday. right now i'm dragging the snow chance a little further south, so southern new hampshire into southern parts of new england, way too early to nail that track. because, as you saw, that energy for the storm is way, way out there. josh: the chill is here though. coming up next, presidential candidates weigh in on the changing culture of partisanship. jean: and president obama's immigration plan will get a major test just a few weeks

doesn't show up for work, but wants a promotion? right to rise usa is responsible for the content of this message. josh: back now to commitment 2016 coverage, we asked every major party presidential candidate what they would do to break down the political wall that divides the parties. let's hear from the next group of republican candidates. >> for years i would watch democrats, republicans go out to lunch, go out to dinner, they were friends, they'd talk, they'd work deals. i guess the best example is tip o'neil and ronald reagan. now they don't even talk to each other. deals that could easily make, for instance bringing trillions of dollars back into this country, everybody wants to do it, everybody agrees it should be done, democrats and republicans. for three years they haven't
5:22 pm
they can't even make a deal if everybody agrees, which is also a bad leadership in terms of the president. but we will get people working together again, i'm friendlier on both side. i've gotten along with both side, if anything i've been criticized because i'm able to get along with everybody. people say oh, you shouldn't be able to get along. i'm a conservative republican, but i get along with democrats, i get along with everybody. and we will get them working together again. it has never been so divided. washington d.c. is gridlock. >> i'm running for president to fix a few really big complex things. and i'm a committed conservative, and i believe that the conservative principles applied the right way will help us grow and help us prosper and keep us safe. but i also know that in order to achieve the big things, you have to do it in a consensus way. you can't jam it down people's throats. we've had had eight long years of a president who has tried to
5:23 pm
despair and people very deeply pessimistic. so i don't ascribe bad motives to people that disagree with me. i try to focus on how can i persuade them to join my cause or our cause, and find a way to forge consensus. the only way we're going to solve these problems is to deal with this partisan divide. there are times in washington d.c. where even when they agree, they refuse to actually move forward. and that has to stop. our democracy is imperilled by that kind of of attitude. we have to stop dividing and pushing people down to make ourselves look better. >> a conversation is always the key. the current administration does democrats. very few of them actually have much of a relationship. obviously we all in the government would work for the people, and so i would encourage open dialogue. and when i say open, i mean
5:24 pm
so that they actually know who is odd volunteer indicating what and who is being a stick in the mud and who is keeping things from going through that the people want to happen. i think exposure is going to be the key to really being able to get things done. >> i've had a lot of experience in breaking down political walls being a republican governor, in jersey. i'm a two-term republican governor who had to work with a democratic legislature every minute of every day of my governorship. the way i break down those walls is twofold. first, i set clearly out what my principles and priorities are. there's in one in new jersey who misunderstands me, they know what i'm willing to fight for. secondly, always keep the door open for leaders of my democratic legislature to come in, talk to me, get to know me so that we can work on deals together, because governing is about making deals, we have to work with each other. in wowed boy have the same thing, establish relationships
5:25 pm
side of the aisle, let them know what my priorities were and what principles i would not compromise on, and then find out from them the same thing, what issues are most important to them and which ones won't they compromise on. in new jersey we found a lot. common ground and been able to get things done for the people of the state. i'd accept nothing less as president of the united states. josh: at 5:30, more about the precautions in place to prevent one of the world's most escaping again. jean: and it seems people just don't get it when it comes to cyber security. wait until you hear the most popular passwords of 2015. now to our u local hot shot, this little one happy that winter has arrived.

this is america. not the hateful big on thed murderer we saw yesterday, but this forgiveness is who we are as america and you cannot tear us apart. that's what he should have done and it's what i will endeavor to do every day as president. >> what i'm going to do is use the power of technology to focus the american citizenry's common sense and good judgment and their anger and frustration on the political class, because politicians move under pressure. so i talked about the importance of going to zero based budgeting so we know whereverry dollar is being spent and we can move any dollar. there's a bill for zero based budgeting that's been stuck in the house for a long time. i'm going to go into the oval office and during my weekly radio address i will ask my fell will citizens to take out their smart phones and i'll say do you agree with me that it's about high time that we passed a bill for zero based budgeting. press one for yes, two for no.

i'm perfectly prepared to bet that the majority of american people are going to press one for yes, because they know it's important. because we have a bipartisan frustration and anger with the failure of government to serve those who pay for it. and that pressure will move the political process. >> well, the political conflicts that we see in washington today are actually a reflection of the division within the country. but this is an opportunity for presidential leadership. this is a chance to actually state where you want to take the country, where you think the country ought to go and persuade the american people, and we can do that today because of the radio shows, the cable news shows, the network shows, the internet, twitter, all the opportunities to actually reach out to the american people with strong presidential leadership and move things in a particular direction. when i was ran for governor of virginia i ran on a tax cut, on a car tax cut. i was swept into office because

thursday night airing at 9:00. mike: today it was all about the wind and cold temperatures. you factor the two together, feels like zero or below in some spots right now. time lapse photos at warner today where we did have the clouds, some partial sun, but again the win quite blustery with gusts over 40 miles per at times. so a very gusty tuesday, and even though the winds let re lax a little, it will still be breezy for wednesday. wind and cold through tomorrow morning, then the breeze relaxes a little and temperatures inch up a few degrees higher than today. so not as frigid. right now the end of the week looking quiet. as for the weekend nor'easter, it is certainly going to develop off the mid atlantic coastline, there is no doubt about that. at this point it looks like the track of this storm will slide just far enough to our south so that we miss a lot of the snow. that is just a trend in our
5:44 pm
12 to 24 exphowrs there's still a ways to go to figure out where that storm will track. it could wobble closer and give us quite a bit of snow, so we'll have to watch it closely between now, tomorrow and even into thursday. but for the here and now nice and quiet statewide, a few lingering flakes up north, will diminish later on this evening. and during the overnight stretch. temperatures are lining up about five, six, seven below the average for this early hour of the evening this time of year. right around 20 in many parts of southeastern new hampshire, a good part of the monadnock region around the upper teens and low 20's. and a little colder farther to the north. around lake sunapee only around 12. and heart of the lakes region between 10 and 15. gill information at 9 -- gilford at 9 with the wind chill below zero. you factor in the winds and it does feel like zero or below in many spots in northern new hampshire. take a look at the win chills right now, again that factor of
