oil fell to its lowest price since early 2003 and the price of oil has influenced the rough start to 2016 for the markets. the upside to these oil prices is the relief we' re all getting wmur' s jean mackin has our top story tonight. jean as the price of crude oil : plummets so does the price of gas. are now in that $1.70 and $1.80 range. take a look at the price of gas at the station in manchester. >> i' m on a fixed income, im retired and it makes the money go further. >> i got it for $1.75 i can' t believe gas prices are this low. i don' t know what' s causing it but i' m happy about it. jean the spokesperson for aaa : northern new england can explain a few of the factors >> china'

released today shows republican presidential candidate still way ahead of the pack. ted cruz is his closest competitor 20 points behind. marco rubio and jeb bush are tied at 10%. john kasich, rand paul, and chris christie all have 6%. but it' s not all good news for trump. new numbers cast a very different picture about what would happen in the general election here in new hampshire. >> ' please fbi, please go after hillary. i wanna run against bernie.' . shelley donald trump may want to : be careful what he wishes for, his dream of facing off with bernie sanders in november might not go well for him at least not in new hampshire. a new wmur/cnn poll on potential matchups finds the vermont senator would beat trump, by a 23-point margin. in fact, sanders would beat every republican in a head-to-head-race, even hypothetically outperforming hillary clinton. >> bernie sanders does better

of the republicans. shelley but hillary clinton is : the national democratic frontrunner. and still the favorite to win the nomination. the poll finds she would also beat trump, by 9 points. clinton beats texas senator ted cruz as well, by six points. but the poll found marco rubio would beat clinton by one point, 45 to 44. while ohio governor john kasich is deadlocked in this poll with clinton, each getting 43%. in fact, every republican in this survey has a better shot at beating clinton than donald trump does. >> i think the republican candidates need to wake up. shelley meantime, gop candidates : still polling in the middle of the pack, continue to stump across new hampshire. jeb bush and john kasich, insisting the fight for new hampshire won' t end, until election day. >> it' s why this is such a special place. these voters get a chance to see everybody. >> new hampshire is the perfect

president of the united states and make a recommendation to the rest of the country. shelley: 43% of republican primary voters said they haven' t made a final decision on who they' ll support. you can read the full results from our poll on wmur.com. tom: new jersey governor chris christie held his 50th new hampshire town hall in derry tonight. he attacked hillary clinton for her view on fighting isis saying they follow president obama' s mistakes. >> unfortunately, the woman in the democratic party who' s as to isis, we' exactly where we want to be.' i wonder if she would say that to the families of all those who have lost their lives just in the last few months. tom: the republican presidential candidate has two more town hall meetings planned for tomorrow, one with employees at globe manufacturing, and one in meredith at inter-lakes high school. texas senator ted cruz spent the evening in hollis, holding a rally with supporters.

new hampshire, starting this morning with a town hall meeting in exeter. the republican presidential candidate also had meet and greet events in hooksett and goffstown. cruz will be in manchester tomorrow afternoon. republican presidential candidate marco rubio started his day holding a town hall at the plymouth senior center. later, he was in concord to address the new hampshire house. the florida senator talked about his time serving in florida' s state legislature and the value of state government. shelley: on the democratic side former president bill clinton was in concord today to campaign for his wife. >> and i believe we should vote for hillary because she' s the only person in either party ready to be president of the united states and defend the country and promote on day one. -- and promote shared prosperity and deal with the health care

we will look at the possibilities coming up in a few minutes. tom: in anticipation of the snow, major airlines are waiving their change fees. american, southwest, and delta are some of the airlines who' ve already issued waivers. details vary by airline, but both southwest and delta are allowing people travelling from airports including boston to change flights this weekend with no penalty. as always check with your airline for details. shelley: new proposals in merrimack and salem could mean more options for housing, shopping, and dining. for an urban style community near the merrimack premium outlets and a tuscan-style village at rockingham park. wmur' s suzanne roantree tells us developers say both projects are already getting warm receptions. suzanne: at this point, both projects have only been presented to their respective town planning boards. but developers are hopeful that they will ultimately win final approval. developers of the merrimack project say there'

convenient, walkable community that would appeal to young workers in the area. >> as well as an active place for people to go after work or on the weekends for entertainment. suzanne plans include hundreds : of thousands of square feet of office space retail and restaurants plus up to 150 living spaces and a 120 room hotel. that could mean nearly a million dollars in taxes a year for merrimack with the promise of a minimal impact on town services. >> particularly on schools because we are not anticipating school children being residents there. bring quite a few jobs to the area as well. suzanne developers hope to start : construction in 2017. in salem, the owners of the they' ve purchased a large piece of land at rockingham park. we are going to do a kind of multifaceted entertainment, theater, organic grocer, shops,

there will be some fun upscale residential, so it will be kind of urban. suzanne complete with numerous : retail shops, brownstone style living spaces and a luxury apartment building. >> we intend to the same fun and passion and energy that we have in the orginal tuscan village and multiply that into something that is really unique downtown development that really doesn' t exist in southern new hampshire. need more approvals from the towns of merrimack and salem, but are expected to not only fill the need for more housing, but also create a few thousand new jobs in southern new hampshire. live in the newsroom, suzanne roantree, wmur. shelley: two hospitals are taking the first step toward creating an affiliation. leaders of catholic medal center in manchester and monadnock community hospital in peterborough voted today to work toward affiliation in the next 12 months. the two hospitals have been working together for years, particularly on improving access

tom senate democrats have : blocked a bill that would crack down on syrian and iraqi refugees coming into the u.s.. the vote means the refugee bill, which passed the house with broad bipartisan support in november, likely is dead for the year. the bill called for new fbi background checks on refugees, and 3 high-ranking federal officials would each have to sign off before any refugee from syria or iraq could come to the u.s. a subpoena has been issued to a former pharmaceutical ceo who hiked the price of a drug by 5000%. shelley: house lawmakers want him to appear at a congressional hearing next tuesday. they are investigating several companies for exorbitant drug prices. he drastically up the price of the only drug that' s been

like arkansas northeast to about new york city. slight chance even though the track has been to the south the past two days, that it could wobble a bit closer and put us on the northern french of some light snow or flurries. that is still a chance saturday evening into early sunday morning. tomorrow through saturday is quiet so we have time to watch it.
