family held at gunpoint. josh: two people are on the loose, two others under arrest accused of using an online ad to lure a man to an apartment to beat him and rob him. i'm josh mcelveen. jean: i'm jean mackin. police don't think this is the first time this has happened. josh: jennifer crompton has the story live from our seacoast bureau. reporter: police say the victim responded to an online ad on both craigslist and back page. an ad for personal services of some sort and that it was a setup. they were called to an apartment in somersworth by the victim who had been robbed and beaten in the face. according to police he had arranged to meet this woman, 22-year-old felicia smart of somersworth.

connection, as well as her 29 edwin dorr. police are also looking or another man. affidavits al he and two others were waiting when the victim arrived. >> he actually walked in the apartment with the girl, she met him outside, she left the room for a second or a couple minutes actually and when she left the room these three males entered through a rear door. and then con fronted him. reporter: police say they expect there will be more charges. coming up at 6:00 the statement one suspect allegedly made that leads police to believe that they may have done this before. for now live in portsmouth, jennifer crompton, wmur news 9. jean: right now police in salem are looking for the public's help after a man robbed a convenience store early this morning. tonight authorities have released surveillance video in suspect. andy hershberger joins us now live with that story.

was in the store long enough to empty two registers. no one was hurt and police don't know if the assailant was armed. salem police are asking tonight if you know this man. this surveillance video shows him walking into the 7-11 on cluff crossing road thursday morning. >> he encountered the clerk who was sweeping, walks up to the clerk, he's completely covered, has a scarf over his face, walks up to the clerk, grabs him, escorts him to one register. reporter: salem police say the man empties the cash from the first register, then moves to the second one and cleans out that cash drawer. >> the clerk describes him as having one hand in his pocket at one point which led him to believe that he may be armed, however no weapon was shown during the incident. reporter: the surveillance video shows the man leaving the store and heading toward the parking lot. police say once outside he headed west toward a nearby apartment complex. the man is wearing dark clothing

police say he was wearing mismatched gloves, one black and blue, the other black and white. while police say the clerk thought the man may have had a weapon, no threats were made. >> the only time i had conversation, the suspect does drawers. reporter: police are asking if you recognize this man or have any other information about this case to please give them a call. live, andy hershberger, wmur news 9. jean: a major blizzard is gaining strength as it churns towards the east coast tonight, it's not expected to have much of an impact in new hampshire. but it will be a very different story to our south where millions of people are bracing for a major blizzard. landa zak is in washington d.c. reporter: they call washington d.c.'s megastorm of 2010 snow ma geddo. in could be worst.

his dog got spooked and tried to run off. mike: i get spooked too if i saw frozen pants, just wandering around, sitting around. so bizarre. take a look at the nice scene in dublin, the sun is down, still a little light showing out there because we do have clear conditions and the snow cover out there. but really not all that bad a day compared to where we could be and compared to what's happening to our south. right now winds continue to bill in out of the northwest, that stubborn breeze right now driving temperatures slightly below the average. on average it's low to mid teens north, upper teens and central parts of the state and low to mid 20's elsewhere. as we go through time we're going to start to see temperatures creeping up a little bit over the next several days. but the wind and the temperature, yeah, feel-like temperature feels like 4 in berlin. a45 below atop mount washington,

6,000 feet up. in southern parts of the state the win chills are close to the average for this time of year. with our temperatures near average, that's what happens. again winds are gusting, 20 to 25 miles per hour. not as strong as the past couple of days, but as we go through time those winds are really going to crank up, down to our south. all associated with that monster nor'easter ask developing blizzard down through the mid atlantic region. with that northwesterly flow, a lot of cold air building in. not only in new england but down through the mid atlantic region as well, setting the stage for that monster snow event to our south. here it is in its infancy stage right now with a lot of tropical juice, trurning right up into the tennessee valley. next stop the ohio valley, the virginias and mid atlantic region where it's just cold enough for mainly snow. around here, dry chilly tonight, clear skies will allow temperatures to fall into the

fair at of sunshine on saturday, but as that monster storm makes its closest run through new hampshire saturday afternoon and sunday morning, clouds will begin to lower and thicken and can't rule out a light dusting of snow, s some flurries, light snow showers in parts of southern new hampshire during saturday evening into the overnight stretch into early, early saturday. on sunday rather. that should be about it in terms of snow. in terms of where the brunt of this storm hits, take a look at the advisories, over 18 states right now under winter storm watches, blizzard watches or blizzard warnings, and here is the reason why. take a look at the future cast snowfall projection down to our south. two feet plus. and you do notice that little wedge of light blue, tries to scoot into southern new hampshire just to say lowell with a light dusting possibly as we go into late saturday evening. overnight tonight, clear and seasonably cold, single digits, very low teens, there's a look at your weekend forecast.

josh: tonight we're hearing from republican candidates for president about their take on how they would protect social security and medicare for future generations. >> it makes my blood boil when i hear people say that, well, we're going to have to cut social security, we're going to have to tell these seniors after working for decades and having their checks confiscated with takeouts from the government, that, well, you know what, we blew that money. bernie madoff went to jail for doing that. and members of congress cannot say to the american people that the money that they paid in is not going to be there for them. it's not a matter of if we should do it, it's a matter of

america will have stolen from its own people. and then lied to them for all their working careers. congress gets a pay raise, so should the people who are on social security. a third of the people on social security in america depend on it for 90% or more of their income. this won't hurt many of the hedge fund managers on wall street. but taking social security benefits away from seniors means you're going to devastate their lives. it's going to devastate veterans. you just don't do that and call yourself an honorable country. >> have the courage to address the problems that they are now experiencing. we can't play politics and look the other way or make false promises. the time has come to address these programs and i now have a program that balances the budget in eight years that includes the reform of both medicaid and medicare with a plan on social security yet to come. >> i'd make it illegal for politicians to steal from the social security trust fund.

the morning recently saying you shouldn't steal from the social security trust fund for immediate expenses. once again the right wanted to take the social security money and spend it on the military, the left wanted to spend it on immediate welfare. there's supposed to be a pension program, it's for the people who are going to retire at some point and it should not be tampered with, and i would keep the politicians' mits off the social security trust fund. >> if we leave it the way it is it goes bankrupt. we can leave it the way it is for people who are on it now for people like my mother or about to retire, but for future generations it's going to have to work differently. instead of retiring at 6, i may have to retire at 68. if i've been financially successful, my social security benefits may not grow as fast as they grew for my parents and grandparents. i don't think there are unreasonable changes to ask of me and future generations after everything our parents have done for us.

south. jean: two men are behind wargs after two stabbings in claremont. welcome back, i'm jean mackin. josh: it occurred on sunday and tuesday. reporter: the two arraignments took place here at claremont district court, investigators say this is an ongoing investigation into the serious crimes that allegedly have taken place. 34-year-old robin brown faced a judge by video, charged with two counts of first degree assault. claremont police are investigating two stabbings they say brown carried out. the first was on sunday outside 7 trinity street. >> officers responded and at first couldn't find a victim. but as they continued to search,

on pleasant street. reporter: the victim had been stabbed in the mouth. he was treated and released. the second stabbing happened on tuesday at the same location. county attorney hathaway says it was caught on camera. >> you see him going into the car and making thrusts into the car approximately seven times using a stabbing motion. reporter: according to court documents, the victim suffered severe stab wounds, which cut his diaphragm, causing a lung collapse. he remains at dartmouth hitchcock but is expected to be okay. a search warm was executed at 7 trinity street and investigators arrested brown and his roommate, 41-year-old willie taylor. >> we're still investigating the circumstances surrounding these incidents and mr. taylor's role in those incidents. reporter: taylor is charged with two felony counts of selling a controlled drug in a school zone. >> those charges each carry a minimum of a year in the house of corrections as a mandatory

these events are alleged to have taken place within 1,000 feet of the school zone. additionally the defendant was present at minimum at the location of the two assaults. reporter: brown ask taylor being held at the house of corrections, they are due in court february 1. josh: a morning fire in manchester is being called suspicious. firefighter evacuated neighbors while they went to put out the flames. they say the area was too crowded to take any chance of the fire spreading. >> i opened the door and they were like fire fire, so i had to get the baby, i have an 18-month-old, had to get the baby, it was a scary thing, very scary. josh: no one was living at the house and all the utilities had been shut off. there are signs that there are more than one fire burning inside this building. jean: the wife of a franklin man convicted of human trafficking

julie shine pled guilty of clob rating with her husband to sell a table girl for sex. she will serve eleven to 30 years in prison. her husband tried to sell the girl to a man to sexually assault her, not knowing that he was an undercover police informant. and now to breaking news. maine police say all four men suspected of holding a family at gunpoint during a home invasion in lyman are now in custody and two are from new hampshire. xavier watson of exeter and vincent casazza from newmarket and two men from massachusetts are charged with burglary and robbery. watson is also accused of sexually assaulting one of the victims. we just learned one of the massachusetts men was arrested in lowell today. josh: a documentary about new hampshire journalist james foley is part of the lineup at the sundance film festival. foley was murdered by isis

to keep the conversation going. jean: the oscars air here on wmur on february 28. josh: to commitment 2016, we're hearing more from the candidates about a they would do to protect social security for future generations. >> the case of social security 15 years from now, it won't be able to pay 75 cents on the dollar in benefits. i don't know of anybody that's for that, i'm not. so we have to gradually make changes to the social security system. and i believe the best way to do that is to make it generation alley neutral. same thing with medicare. that is change the eligibility age for medicare, change the age for social security, tracking with the life expectancy. so if life expectancy continues to go up, then the eligibility age will go up. we haven't done that for the first 70 or 80 years of the social security administration. we need to do that.

can't continue to pay old age benefits to people who are 62 years old, because 62-year-olds aren't old. >> i'm going to save social security and i'm going to save medicare. if you look at ben carson he wants to abolish medicare, which is crazy. because it actually works. now, you want to get rid of the fraud, the waste, the abuse, all of the problems. but you have to save medicare. so carson wants to get rid of it and a couple of others want to get rid of it. that is insane. one of the most popular things, and it really does work, if it were run properly, so i'm going to save social security. and i'm not going to do cuts and surgery on it. and i'm going to save medicare, and we're going to have a system of jobs where our country becomes rich again so that we can afford to have top quality care. we're going to bring jobs back from china, we're going to bring jobs back from japan and mexico and india and all of these countries that are taking our jobs, and we're going to become

able to afford having quality services again. >> as a candidate i proposed the most comprehensive detailed plans to preserve and protect social security, medicare, medicaid, the entitlement programs. for those that have them now, but assure that they're going to exist for the next generation, because nay won't, they'll be overwhelmed by costs because of our changing demographics, and that requires an approach of slowly but surly raising the retirement age, creating a floor, in my proposal we have 125% of the poverty level for social security benefits to provide a safety net, if you will. compress the income that higher income people will receive, and make changes so you can create solvency. as it relates to medicare, my personal believe is that you could lower costs for seniors by using the scale of the medicare program to the advantage of the beneficiaries but putting out

if you did that, most estimates suggest that you could lower premium costs by 7%. >> well, what we have to do in looking at some of these unfunded liabilities is modify them. when social security was put in place the average age of death was 63. now we're looking at 80. and we haven't made the adjustments in the interim. it's scheduled to run out of money in 2033, that's not very far from now. so we're going to have to very gradually raise the ages for people who are 50 and under. leave it exactly the same for anybody who is over that age. and then for people who are under 30, i think give them a plan over which they can have some say in terms of how it's invested. hey can't take money out of it, but money will continue to go into it. they should be able to build up a pretty substantial nest egg.

no ice able to form due to the active surface of the lakes. an amazing run, one of the latest dates ever that we've had ice form on any of the big lakes and still none up on winnipesaukee right now. teens and lower 20's across a good part of southeastern new hampshire, until you get southeast of manchester, towards the coast, mid 20's here. on average the monadnock region around 20. valleys in the mid 20's. upper teens on average through the lake sunapee zone. right around 20 in and around the lakes region. and a bit colder to the north, teens and single numbers showing up. right at the average, by the way, for this time of year. but still those busy winds, so you factor in the temperature, factor in the winds that feel washington. single digits elsewhere. until you get to the lower merrimack valley, just above that in the lower to mid teens. actual air temperatures tonight,

points north and west, couple of low teens at the coast. 8 to 12 elsewhere and take a look at the map. a lot of cold air banked to our north and west through the plains, down in towards the ohio valley, in towards new hampshire. very important temperature pattern here because even though it's very warm in the deep south, the contrast is almost indicating where the storm track will line up. right through the carolinas and mid atlantic states and then south of new hampshire. it is just so cold, all the way down to d.c., that's why we will not likely see a major impact from this storm, as high pressure locks in dry air. and keeps the system just off to our south. so for now, they're dealing with dry weather in the mid part of the atlantic coastline, but that will all change. take a look at doppler radar, and future cast with the clouds tomorrow, sunshine and clouds early saturday. and then the northern fringe of that monster nor'easter makes its closest run at southern new hampshire, later saturday evening. that's when we may see a few
